IFTTT is a great service, so many of the major smart home services make a point of adding interoperability because of the range of options it adds & allows owners to create triggers till their hearts content

Hello Gareth, that is a great point. For anyone who is hesitant to use it, like you said, major services are using it. Not only smart home services, but trusted internet and social media companies. If it was not trusted and seen as useful for these companies, it would have disappeared a long time ago. Thanks for pointing this out and for watching. I appreciate all the support. Have a great day Gareth.

,IFTTT is great, Craig, I've been using it for a few years.
It's a whole rabbit hole to discover. I use it to trigger my TV to tune in to various stations such as ESPN or MSNBC or my local news channel.
Also, aside from the Echo, I use it for proximity, i.e. If I'm not home, then, turn off all lights if it's daytime. Conversely, if I'm not home, and it's night, turn on selected lights.
Even so, you've introduced new uses I haven't thought of yet, Cool!
    Love the vids, Craig! :)

Hello Michael, I am late to the IFTTT game. I feel like I have been missing out and expected it to be much more work. You are right about it being a rabbit hole. There is so many options. That is cool you have it triggering specific channels. I did not know you could do that. I need to look more into the proximity features. That sounds like a great use for it. I am glad even as a novice with IFTTT I was able to bring some new uses.
I do appreciate it and am glad that you are enjoying the videos. It is great to see you in the comments. You have been such a big supporter from early on in the channel. Thank you for that. Have a great week Michael.

Hi Craig. Loving your videos. You know, since lockdown I’ve become a big fan of Slow Movies.... you know, the ones where you go on a walk round a city or spend a couple of hours on a beautiful beach. I often have one running at breakfast time. However, it is always a bit of a fuss to find them and get them running. I have an Echo, An Echo dot, my new Echo Show and a Firestick. There must be a simple way to build a routine to play my favourite movie on my tv.....Morning Jazz at Coffee Shop

After researching this more, I do feel more comfortable. Especially since IFTTT has been out since 2011 and many services are allowing the protocol with their services. That says a lot to me. I am glad that I can help some with bringing new features. Thanks for all the support Steve. Have a great day.

Thanx Craig, This resolves all my headaches and more!!
I have a Ring alarm, just bought a Harmony hub and a Echo View. I can’t believe how my Echo has just animated EVERYTHING in my living room and rest of home via ITTT. It even re-vamped my Ring alarm, Now I have it so when you open a door or any sensor is triggered Alexa tells me which sensor it is real time!! This is big when it comes to having your alarm system on and somebody opens a window or door. Now not only will the alarm sound but Alexa tells me which sensor was triggered!! BIG!
It does take time to create applets but once you get the hang of it it’s a breeze. It even launches my IPTV on my Firestick on voice command 🙃👍👍👍 thanx again. I look forward checking your stuff out!!

That is great that you have it dialed in and are taking advantage of IFTTT. IFTTT is a very powerful tool for automations. I think it can be intimidating, but like you said once you get hang of it, it can be a breeze. That is awesome you stepped up the notifications with your Ring Alarm. Thank you for sharing your experience and watching.

Can you do a follow up using Wyze Cam? I want to set up so that I get voice notification from Alexa telling me when motion is detected. Turn lights on when motion is detected. Tell Alexa to turn off/on Wyze Cam.

Hello Antonio, I will have to do some research on this. I would like to be able to incorporate the motion sensors into the native routines. Unfortunately that is not an option. I have a Yamaha RXA810 amplifier, which my parents and I got from The previous house that we lived in. That amplifier was left from the previous owner. When we moved, to the house we are in now, we took it with us, and my dad gave it to me, so I can have my little mini stereo system in my bedroom. Anyway, my question is, how would I connect my Amazon echo to the amplifier, and is it possible to control the amplifier with the Amazon echo?

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hello, that’s great that you have the Yamaha amplifier for a stereo set up. What you can do is use something like the Echo Dot or another echo with the 3.5mm output. You would connect that to your amp. You might need a male 3.5mm to male RCA cables to get the audio into the amp. Depending on how old the amp is. Once you have audio ran from the Echo you need to have the amp on in order to hear Alexa responses. When plugged in it uses the speakers it is connect to for responses. The Echo microphones will still be used when making request. I don’t think you’re going to get much control over the amplifier. But it does give you a way to get better Sound from music services by connecting it to your amplifier. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for watching. Have a great day.

Hello Summerrr1, I am in agreement with Aaron. The protocol has been out since 2011 and I have not seen any reports of it being abused. They do require logging in with accounts. But beyond that, it is a go command for your device to do something. Such as triggering another device and adding information somewhere. I can see the concern. I will have to read up on it more. But, they have had a lot of time to mess up and so far don’t seem to have. Thanks for watching and sharing your concern. Have a great day.

I discovered IFTTT through another TH-camr when I first got my Echo device. I checked it out (IFTTT) for a bit, but in the end abandoned it. For me, the to do lists were interesting, but I just didn't need them. I found the apps on IFTTT as useful as Amazon Skills, that is to say, not very. Currently I have only a couple of skills enabled. One for my EcoBee thermostat and another for my Feit light bulbs. I've browsed other skills but they all seem very primitive and I guess that's how I felt with IFTTT. Don't get me wrong, I see the power that Skills and IFTTT can bring, but for me I just don't need anything that's offered or it's just not at the level where I need it badly enough.

Hello David, I can see where you are coming from. I sometimes find it weird to do the whole account linking. IFTTT has had a good reputation and many developers have trusted it. But, it still requires access. Hopefully some of these features get worked in natively to Alexa. Thanks for watching David. Have a great day.

welcome to ifttt. it's nice but unfortunately it can error out (and sometimes the commands don't execute) or occasionally it is slow; particularly when it comes to gps and location stuff. join the webcore community and leave ifttt behind: community.webcore.co/

Hello Gordon. That is funny. Alexa gets me at times, even when I try to change the name. Thanks for watching and leaving this comment. Have a great day.

I’m sorry but what kind of Psycho uses the word “Amazon” to trigger Alexa?

And that is the one reason I don't use this service is that it needs my Amazon password. I trust Amazon's security but don't know enough about IFTT's security so for now, no thanks.

IFTTT has been around for years and is highly respected in the tech industry.

Hello notta3d, I can understand what you are saying. like Aaron, said it has been around for years. It has been out since 2011 and I have not heard any issues with it. But, I can respect not wanting to connect your account. I feel the same way about some services. Thank you for watching. Have a great day.
