I'll finally be able to automate my coffee pot into my HomeKit scenes...something I was unable to do before using Switchbot.

    Awesome tutorial Shane, thank you.
    I’ve come up with one idea. As you grow older, your health becomes a bigger concern and a Switchbot can help me with that. Using my Apple Watch to monitor my pulse whilst sleeping, it can trigger a Shortcut if my pulse stops; then activate a Switchbot to press the button on a ready connected defibrillator.
    Job done! 😂😘

    Shane, this works and I've set it up for a bot I'm using. Since this video is two years old, is it still the best way to bring a Switchbot bot into Homekit? You did a nice job of explaining this. I have an aftermarket key fob for a car I have to park in my driveway at night and am using it to lock the doors each night so I don't forget to do it. If I share it with my neighbors I want to use the most current way of doing it. Thank you!

    Thanks again for the great video! I am using a few Switchbots, one to open the intercom door, the other to turn on the home ventilation system. Is there a way to control long presses through IFTTT?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching! You should be able to do that if you configure the SwitchBot in the SwitchBot app to perform a long press. Then I believe automations through IFTTT work however you have configured the bot in the SwitchBot app.

      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Luke! Yea, you should be able to use the same method in this video. You'll just need to choose the appropriate action in IFTTT...for example, choose the "control home appliance" action instead of "bot press."

      @@ShaneCreates Hi Shane, I’ve got it up and running. Sort of! For some reason it will turn off a device or turn off a scene. But to turn on I have to press the button twice and then the device is showing off but is now on. Can you do a video explaining the values for switches (mentions in the IFTTT GitHub description about using values if you have a different command for on and off) I’m not sure how to use trigger values. Thanks.

      No, since I don't rely on IFTTT too much, I haven't been following it very closely. In fact, this is the only thing I'm using IFTTT for on a regular basis currently.
      @ModernDayTech recently released a video showing how to incorporate switchbot into homekit using hoobs and a smart things hub. So maybe that could be an alternative. I wish we had a good switchbot hoobs/homebridge plugin but I haven't been able to find one that works reliably.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you need hoobs (or homebridge) in order to integrate the switchbot into homekit using this method. Hoobs can be purchased as the "plug n play" starter kit (easiest) or can even be downloaded if you want to set up your own raspberry pi.

  • @rapidresponsemedicalservic577
    @rapidresponsemedicalservic577 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey. Quick question with a little issue. Used this technique really well on objects that need same on and same off command. But Even though HomeKit shows a device as off, if you use as part of a routine it will still trigger the “off” command regardless of device state in HomeKit therefore actually causing the device to come on. Any ideas of working roind this?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, by making it a "stateful" switch when configuring in hoobs, you can make the switch in homekit stay on or off until the next time it is switched. The downside is that if you ever manually turn on/off whatever device you are controlling (my coffee pot in this case) the state will not be correct in HomeKit. That's why I chose to keep the switch stateless since we still use the manual button on the coffee pot sometimes. Hope that makes sense.

      I am not aware of anything other than wall switches. Unless your fan uses an remote, you may be able to hook it up to an IR blaster of some sort and tie it into homekit that way.

    Is this strong enough to turn on a breaker? How can you tell if a device is on or off before using it?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are many ways you can configure this. For me, I only intended to use homekit functionality to toggle the button on in my automations/scenes and I figured myself or others in the house would still want to use the manual button at times. And if someone used the manual button it would mess up the state in homekit, so I just set the homekit switch to toggle on/off immediately so I could place it in my morning scene (and my coffee pot turns off automatically after a certain amount of time).
      You can set the switch as a stateful switch (stays on until you turn it off), you can set different webhooks for the on and off actions (triggerOn, triggerOff), and even delays if you want. In addition, you have different modes and setting in the switchbot app for the actual device as well (press mode, switch mode). Hope that helps.
      I'm not sure if it's strong enough for a breaker. I would guess probably not, but can't say for sure.

    • @Kgharney427
      @Kgharney427 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been looking at this since you reviewed it. I think you may have skimmed over a really important and useful feature of the Hub. It is an IR blaster! You can control any IR device in the room. Can you do an in depth on that part too? Anything IR can be linked to Shortcuts and Siri.

    • @Khriswithak
      @Khriswithak 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need IFTTT. I just set up HOOBS on my Raspberry Pi 4 and then I tried several hoobs plugins and none worked until I tried this one:
      plugins.hoobs.org/plugin/homebridge-switchbot
      You just add in the MacAddress (which you can get from the SwitchBot app) and it worked! Just make sure the code is going in the "accessories" section of the config file, not the "platform" section. I have the switchbot hub mini. Not sure if that is necessary to make it work. I'm going to try to disconnect it and see if it still works.

    • @Khriswithak
      @Khriswithak 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was going to go down the IFTTT route but they just added a subscription fee for more than 3 applets, which turned me off, so I'm trying my best to avoid yet another middle man service

  • @chrishuman762

    I would’ve left the button stateful in hoobs then you could tell in HomeKit if the coffee pot was on or off instead of the button always showing as off.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Human I would have, and tried that, but sometimes we’ll still use the actual button on the coffee pot which would mess up the state in HomeKit. That would work if we only used HomeKit to turn it on/off.

Also, I’m sick and tired of all this “smart“ devices that insist on phoning home to whoever made them. I don’t need or want someone else in my house! Aargh! X10 was great.
