3:45 how big is the world?
absolutely massive, and it's not just giant areas of empty space either. the entire world is intricately planned and detailed to the point that you can physically chart and track Luffy's journey on an actual map. the one piece world is at least 2 to 3 times larger than ours, and it's almost completely made up of islands and ocean.
4:09 Oda, the author of the manga, has confirmed that THE ONE PIECE IS REEEALLLL and is a physical, tangible object that can at least be touched, held, and observed.
5:57 yes, absolutely. especially in the movies but there are some really good ones in the main story as well.
6:51 since the world is so massive and insanely dangerous to traverse, there is no one single map of the all-encompassing world. there are several smaller maps of very, very small pieces of the world, but since the world is so vast and dangerous, there is no world map (yet).
13:36 yes, one man by the name of Eichiro Oda (i might have spelled that wrong) created all of this. he started writing at the age of 19. he's almost 50 now. and the show or the manga isn't even close to over 💀

The craziest thing about this video is that it still hasn't fully conveyed how well realized this world is. All of these locations have their own history and culture and politics and geography and ecology. It's to the point where the world is its own character, constantly reacting to the actions of the other characters and evolving and in turn influencing their actions in driving the story forward. That very fact actually makes it very well executed. One Piece is supposed to be Luffy's grand adventure, and adventures have unplanned detours that can seem like a narrative non-sequitur. But since it all takes place in a cohesive world, it does in fact all tie together. Even when it doesn't seem to.

Yeah, One Piece isn't long just because of the story but because of how vast the world is and how intricate and detailed Oda made his world building. If you wanted to you could actually plot Luffy's travels from episode 1 on a physical map (up to a certain event in which you could then map his travels from that point to the current episode)
Also the one throne thing is the World Governments throne, each country has their own leader/king/queen (only a select few of the big kingdoms are recognised) but they all have to answer to the throne of the World Government who controls the Marines that are basically the police/army.

The rollercoaster of emotions you will go through is something that is so fulfilling: you could be sobbing at someone's backstory uncontrollably one moment, then laughing at a hilarious scene, then jump out of your seat screaming holy SH*T, then cheering with happy tears streaming down your face, sometimes all in the span of 5 minutes...and while that seems chaotic, none of those emotions detract from one another or kill the moment...because they all just...belong. It just works. And it's rare to see a writer like Oda who knows how to make all of that work perfectly. The story/plot, lore, characters, and character development, are SO immaculately written that it makes me wonder if Oda is even human lol--and the fact that he's known how this story is going to end (and as you watch you'll see it's VERY evident he knows what he's doing, unlike a lot of writers show runners who just make it up as they go). I'm so glad you decided to react to this, One Piece will become more than just a show/manga for you, it'll be one of the most unforgettable journeys of your life :) Seeing your passion in this video, you will DEFINITELY love it, especially since you love pirate ship fights and anything dealing with the ocean! :) sorry for the word vomit but no other show gets me as passionate as One Piece does :)

    Facts about One Piece:
One Piece anime is adapted from One Piece manga (comic) which sold over 500Million copies literally the 2nd series in history to ever sell 500M. It is only behind Superman surpassing Batman and Spiderman.
One piece is all about adventure, if you love adventure, i can't find any better series than this. Also there are huge sea monster and ship fights here. You will definitely love it.
You can watch like arc by arc. 1 arc covers a story around only 1 island, though there are exceptions. There arcs that only has 8 episodes and there are also the ones which have 120+ episodes.
Anyway looking forward to your reaction.

Echiiro Oda (the writer of One Piece) did say that the one piece is going to be a physical object. That's a super vague thing for him to say but good enough for us to know he has something big in store for us. Despite this being a 25 year old series where each chapter comes out every month the goal and the overall plot was all created before the beggining of One Piece. 99% of mangakas fall into this trap where they think of the beghining and then try to follow up the story, making the curve of the quality of chapters kind of all over the place but most of the time losing what makes the beghining so special. But since One Piece has been thought beforehand everything can flow seemlessly. Sure, not everything was thought of obviously but you will always see refrences to other characters from previous chapters out of nowhere and it wouldn't ruin the flow of the main plot but rather enhance it. Also, much like most mangas, only 1 person writes and draws this. There are editors in his team but they don't take over the project. The main setting, plot and fight choreography of the chapter is created only by Oda. Also we are at a point where the villians that are as strong as what you described at 16:04 can defeat people like this

It gives you a basic explanation on some of the main stuff you keep asking in your videos as to what is the point of the plot without any spoilers. Think of it as not opening the door fully but more so a small creep into what One Piece has in store and the reason as to why people keep continuing to climb this mountain even if they have started this late. I started reading the manga about 2-3 years ago and i keep getting long breaks but every time i come back i keep getting a reason as to why i should continiue. Currently close to chapter 700 and it just keeps getting better

Yes, that is one of One Piece's greates strength! Watching this series is like an amazing adventure and deffinitely is worth checking it out. It wouldn't really be possible if it was any shorter. And it is amazingly an work of one person, Eiichiro Oda. It's his only work he basically is creating from his youngest years. And what's even more amazing, all the crazy stuff in this world aren't just like a random things, they all fit and connect with each other making a world and characters that feel real despite some absolutely absurd stuff. Oda also can write characters so well that you just fall in love and cry over the weirdest and ugliest characters, which honestly is mindblowing because the appearance tends to take a huge part in the process of developing sypathy for characters in a lot of other shows. But honestly I wouldn't be able to point out any other show which made me feel so many positive emotions towards characters that would be considered "ugly" for a lack of better wording (english is not my first language so I'm sorry in advance for my poor language skills). In every other series "ugly" characters would be the absolutely irredimable villans, most of the time. Here there is a lot of "ugly" villans too... but so much of them are made in this intricate, complicated way that their looks just becomes something not that important, it turns out they have their reasons, motivations and also poses good qualities, they are not just villains, they are people living in this world. Whereas in other series the bad looks is one of the things that is supposed to make the audience resent them stronger. It's easier to hate the villain if on top of being bad they are ugly. But making you like character who at first was shown as a bad ugly villain is an absolutely mindblowing thing. I agree that it would be a bit slow for youtube, so deffinitely would love to see the marathon on twitch ^^

One of the craziest prarts of this series is that most islands and countries have reasons they live like this. Every character has allegences to different factions of good and evil, and one of the coolest parts is that land gets terraformed by other events.
2 dudes battled on one island and terraformed it into a half frozen wasteland and a half lava wasteland. Hearing this was awesome and they have to tread into both parts of the island
one character generations ago caused another famous pirate to lose all their riches
Another lost his crew and became a villain exacting revenge
and the dynamics of every important character can change everything!

i gotta say the one thing i treasure the most about one piece is how the writing never lets me down. never. i love stories in various mediums but i realized that a lot of times i'd be following stories that eventually end up dropping in quality or end in lackluster ways to different degrees for various reasons. such things can leave a bitter aftertaste even if one followed a series for years and thus had years of great enjoyment in it before the eventual bittersweet endings. i'm saying all this as someone who's been following one piece for 15 years now -- it has not disappointed me once.
most of the time all you ever hear is how long it is, how it's 1000+ chapters and been running for 25 years. but the more important part is not how long it is but how in all that length it does not disappoint once. compared to other series that drop off or get uninspired, either rushed or get stretched in ways you can literally tell the writer is in a ??? spot, one piece never lets you go. even after 1000+ chapters the quality is only rising. even after 25 years it's only getting into newer peaks and gaining new fans through 3 generations of animanga enjoyers.
when ppl look at its lengths i think the feeling shouldn't be intimidation but insane curiosity. i know it was for me, i was not intimidated but insanely curious -- just what makes this series so special it's been carrying a whole anthology on its back for this long as a flagbearer? just how good it must be that it's been running this long and the fans are still gaining and losing their minds over it? what made it into a cultural icon in its homeland? like. for real i don't get people who don't have these kind of thoughts in their heads when looking at it, instead of the boring and repetitive: "ah but it's so long." LIKE I DON'T GET IT. it must be insanely good if it's been running for this long especially in the cutthroat manga industry that literally axes titles left and right on some basic polls and a few dips in sales.
anyone who chooses to read/watch one piece will realize that there are unspeakable amount of reasons why it is the one on top. the story, the quality, the journey will speak for itself.

  • @chiarabenini5959

yes! and best thing is, along with the diversity of species and islands and landscapes you also get matching cultures and politics and a rich and thrilling history which gets developed through single points of views, in the islands, and through international conflicts with a more inclusive perspective. And all along you won't lose the fun fights, gags, tragic moments and amazing characters developments, with one of the largest casts I've ever seen. With the author somehow managing to give the right amount of attention to every one of them. LIke the only negative comment I can give you is that the anime pacing drags it down a bit, but even that got better in the latest arcs, and the manga doesnt' have that issue at all.
A legitimate masterwork in worldbuilding and storytelling.

One Piece is an absolutely massive adventure in a gigantic and very detailed world.
Oda doesn't ahve enough with simply bringing us to new cool island to have advnetures, he goes full-on in showing to us their culture, how people live and work, their technology, their history, their governemnt system and politics, it shows as much as it can from almost every island we visit so we TRULY understand them.
And it does this island after island after island, while each one also has their own story to tell in this grand adventure, from towns taken over by pirates taking money for "Protection" to massive revolutions from people losing faith in their rulers while the rulers themselves are also victims trying to fix the problems facing their lands.
One Piece is truly a grand adventure in a fantastical world that brings the reader inside to join the crew as they sail the sea.

Oda, the creator of one piece, works practically 20 hours a day, had to stop and put more pauses in his days because he didn’t want to die before finishing One Piece. He only sees his family once a week, the rest of the time he is working; and he does the writing and the drawing. He is crazy, but his work is awesome and he is truly has a master mind.
Btw, I would recommend you to watch East Blue together, is basically the “normal world” before they enter the real adventure, from one sitting if you can. It would give you a great grasp at what it is the anime of One Piece. Like the teaser of a movie.
Also my fav arcs are the following ones: Alabasta, Skypea, Water 7 + Enies Lobby, Marine Fold, Desrossa and Wano ( the one the anime is currently in).
And I have too many fave characters to say, but my fave from the crew is Zoro, the swordsman.
I would recommend at least do the one piece streams twice a month, since that way you would be more in the moment. And if you can every island you start wards it in one or two sittings, after all if not you can get into pretty big cliffhangers.
Btw there is this thing called One Pace that tells you what is filler and such in one piece (if you just want the raw original story told by the mangaka) tho, some of the filler is pretty entertaining too!
PD: when I was a kid I watched One Piece in TV, and in Spain it only aired till half of skypea. After some years I continue the anime but stoped because filler arc, but at the start of this year I picked up the manga and read it from start to finish in a week + now I watch the anime as background while working.

The beauty of One Piece is how genius the world was made. The world was literally built to cater to the fantasy that it brings to the table. All the islands are unique. You never know what you're going to see on an island. It's almost like you're being thrown into different worlds entirely every time the crew arrives at a new place. If that isn't enough, Oda ties these often drastically different cultures, races, and landmarks in such a way that it never makes it feel out of place. It's not just the world, though. Unimportant side characters often have more depth than some main characters in other anime/manga titles. The story also tackles many real-life world issues and offers a wonderful lesson to be learned. The very concept of the story is about a young boy made of rubber who wants to be the Pirate King. It sounds ridiculous when you simplify it like that. On the contrary, though, the time you invest in the story and characters makes you feel like you are part of the Straw Hat crew yourself. Oda keeps the mystery of the world alive and is a master at reigniting the sense of adventure when you least expect it. The payoff hits you over and over and sometimes pieces of information introduced early in the show will have pay off hundreds of episodes later. I honestly cannot express how often your mind will be blown. You'll laugh. You'll smile. You'll cry. You'll cry harder. You'll get angry. You'll get excited. Honestly? It will change your life. I promise you; If you stick with it through all 1000+ episodes, you will not regret it. It's a daunting mountain of investment, but it's the journey that is most important. Not the destination. I cannot wait to see you tackle this.

The world of One Piece has one massive continent that loops around the world and has millions of islands throughout the oceans.

What is going to really blow your mind is that, although the world building of One Piece is on another level, it isn't the main reason why so many fans around the world love it. It is the characters. You will fall in love multiple times watching this show.
The begin of the anime is a little bit slow and since the animation of the first episodes are a little dated and theres too many episodes, some people feel lazy and quit before knowing what is it about. But once you cross the line (a little bit after 20 episodes), you find out that 1000+ episodes are just not enough.
I was trying to convince a friend to watch it for years. He started this year and when he watched this episodes that usually hook up new fans, he just said "this is the best episode of anime of all times that I ever watched" and I told him "it isn't even on top 10 of One Piece episodes". lol

The world of One Piece is absolutely amazing and beautiful and intricate. It's like a spider web in its beauty and complexity. This plot connects to this event connects to this backstory. It's totally insane. The imagination and creation is incredible. I can't say enough about it. There are ancient cities of gold hidden in the clouds and a civilization that lives in an air/light pocket 10,000 ft below sea level. There's a freaking ELEPHANT who walks around the sea bed and its head and back stretches miles above the waves. It carries a whole city on its back.
Oda, writer and creator, is a true master storyteller. He's been building this masterpiece one layer at a time for the last 25 years and he's not done yet.

Oda (creator of One Piece) is an absolute GOAT.
How he consistently makes a story that is top tier for like 25 years now. That's insane if you think about it. Not even hollywood gets like 3 good movies in a row. He is by far one of the greatest men of our time. That I am convinced of.

The most incredible thing about the world is that every single island has its own unique history, culture and leadership even some have their own economic system and special craft so they don’t feel like set pieces but places that are alive outside of the story there is even stories about islands that we visited before and their lives after we left and if a place has trouble it was there before the main cast arrived and not because they were there

This is all in the mind of ONE Person. ODA. He came up with the story and the world as child and before he startet everything he already knew how this story will end. This is his lifetime work.

1000 episodes and we've been to Egypt, Venice, Spain and Japan. We broke out from Alkatraz. We've gone up to the sky and down to the bottom of the ocean. Experienced an all out war, and a full blown revolution. We've seen zombies, angels, demons, dragons and giants. Met beings made purely of ice, fire, sand and lightning.
And we've only explored a fraction of the world.

That's why watching One Piece is never boring for me. There is always new places and adventures. Every scene in One Piece has a reason and all of them are just fantastic. Every arc in One Piece are all hype I tell ya.

4:29 -- at one point there was a young boy who loved One Piece, but had a terminal illness and knew he wouldn't live to see the end of the series. His one wish was to know what the One Piece was, which Oda decided to tell him. His comment about it was: "it is real (a tangible thing), and it is beautiful"
We still don't know what it is, though!

I love your enthusiasm! I’d love to see you watch One Piece and I honestly think you’ll love it too. The message of this show is about daring to dream, following your dreams, being true to yourself and not caring what other people thinks of that. So a lot of things that you stand for. Then there’s the importance of friendship, family, found family, all of that too. And yes, the world is insane, and since every island is so different it really never gets old.

Oda is a World Building master! Not only it is a giant world, it is literally alive! While we follow the protagonists, things happens to others characters at the same time outside our view that affects the world with the same force as what is currently happening to the straw hats, it is AMAZING! People who doesn't watch/read it get scared to start because of the its lenght, but you can watch/read at your own pace, you just have to begin and enjoy! Just an episode or a chapter per day, you will see IT IS WORTH IT! More than 1000 chapters/episodes and we can assure you IT'S NOT ENOUGH, we want more!! We wanna know what the One Piece is but at the same time we don't, cause that would mean it's the end!
