    Long road trip… in the winter… not even snow tires… letting your friend drive your car in all of it…. 👏👏. Love it… exactly how a Porsche owner should be :)

    That was awesome! Such a badass for using a Porsche sports car on a snow blizzard trip while 99% of the people out there use SUVs.

    Winters would make quick work of that driveway. I grew up driving in the snow in the mountains out west. VW Super beetle, fiat 850 spider, both same layout. The fiat was not high enough, but managed. The beetle was amazing in snow with 4 snow tires. We used to see many many city people in their road cars with AS and even summers, stuck, in the ditch, or worse. Or simply putting others at risk. The worst offenders have AWD and it's awesome, as long as you're on the gas. The problem is they do eventually have to slow down. Obviously haha. It's good to see you getting some tree runs in, at least you're not total gorbies. But yeah, just know the locals are watching and laughing at you. That lovely car is too slammed for snow, high siding is a real thing. Even on snow tires. The proof in this video is that you're able to drive it, barely. A tiny bit more snow you would have been missing those powder runs. Get a car with clearance and snow tyres if you're serious about getting to the mountain safely.

    'GoRBies' never bothered us much, those day passes and expensive apres pay for the mountain maintenance and employees. So we tolerated the Flatlanders. I would only see them in the lift lines and on the lower part of the mountain. You know, the slow zones where learners and everyone else have to ride out ski to get back on the lift. Sometimes, I would see them only on the morning lift up, cause we would spend the day beyond area boundaries, skinning back up and choosing quality over quantity. It's a whole different world out there. Or it was years ago. Now, videos, social media, ease of access and lack of mountain safety training means lots of work for patrol. Anyway, glad you made it back to Jersey. Now stay there. Heh.

    Great video. I parked my 992 this winter but next year I'll pick up some winters. don't think I'll have the balls to do All seasons. Where I live it gets a lot colder and no salt on the roads ( Calgary,Ab. I just moved from NY last June)

    • @phileas816
      @phileas816 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TommyLGarage Again, you're wrong. All seasons suck in cold weather (too stiff), as they do in the summer (too smooth). I spined my GMC truck on the wet with them in cold fall mornings. Never did when I swapped to winters. Winter tires aren't just for snow! The reason I am so over this topic is anyone claiming things like you did is putting many families at risk and this is beyond my understanding. Especially for places when it gets so cold. You had fun, ok, great, but stop claiming winter tires aren't worth it. They just do worth it. It's about physics and safety!

    • @22Epic
      @22Epic ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TommyLGarage Snow tires are better than summer tire as soon as the temperature is below 45 when the road are dry or wet. The "snow" in the name is misleading. And as you don't use your summer tires when you have the snow tires on, it doesn't cost more to own 2 sets of tires (as long as you keep the car long enough to use 2 sets of tires).
      All season tires are the worst, suck in summer compared to summer tires, suck in winter compared to snow tires. The reason for them to exists is to use on small city cars that don't need good tires and could handle (badly) all weathers.

  • @phileas816
    @phileas816 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Awesome video! You're using your 911 as it is supposed to be used. However, I must disagree with everything you claimed about all seasons vs. winter tires and your video just proves these tires suck heavy, no grip. Did you even ever try to actually feel the difference? Winter tires would help you significantly. I have never been stuck with winter tires on my 991 in the snow and 8 inches is nothing. With all seasons, I did get stuck. Just like you were. Even with rwd winter tires would do the job in a second on that driveway. It's not the "embarrassment", it's the safety factor. All season aren't performing well in any condition, on any car. Period. And it is a huge misconception to think winter tires are only for snow. It is also useful in a a cold wet rain in the winter. From 911's up to huge SUV's like GMC Yukon XL' s since I live in the US and every time I've purchased a car with guess what brand new all season tires on them, it was always really, really Scary in any condition. It is night and day when running summer winter. You're just wrong sorry and it was a pain to listen, because you were compromising your own, you friend's and other people's safety. Glad you made it back to Jersey, an now stay home and don't go anywhere in winter until you toss these soapy tires and replace them with real material. My two cents 🙂

    • @OpenLama
      @OpenLama ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally agree with you, this video was kinda silly and just a bit more snow while your were snowboarding would have meant you being stuck up there. Worst scenario, even without more snow, is you trying to really brake somewhere downhill and you could have crash that yellow cutie of yours and / or hurt someone. So please next time, don't put other people at risk just for a few hits.

      Winter tires are a different rubber compound too. In the cold they stay flexible and sticky compared to A/S They also have sipes and other features to really work well in the cold and snow. I am glad you made it safely. However, I hope others don't think they can use A/S in very cold regions. There are some videos comparing summer, A/S and winter tires. One thing that isn't mentioned often enough is the rate of deacceleration of the three types. In winter conditions the speed at which you slow down is dramatically different with winter tires. If you were to hit something with winter tires you have the best chance of hitting it with the lowest velocity.

    • @phileas816
      @phileas816 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree here. It was presented as a "Porsche purists saying blah blah and I will show you it's wrong" kind of message. But here it is really mostly about safety. Also, as a Porsche owner for more that 25 years, I understand perfectly Porsche specs and warranty conditions. All my 911's were and are under the Porsche Approved program and I have rear axle steering on the latest one. First, with a warranty you have to have either summer or winter tires. I don't know ANY 911 owner running A/S tires. Even in the US. Porsche 911 cars aren't designed for subpar A/S tires and I'd bet it would even be an issue with an insurance claim in case of an accident in slippery conditions. Moreover, with rear axle steering you need the tires and wheels dimensions and with the required quality listed as per spec, just because of the design and the mechanical implications in getting what you actually paid for, functionally. I am an engineer myself and not everything is commercially and marketing/financially motivated. Yes, there are influencers encouraging the need of swapping summer/winter tires to make more money but there is truth in physics in this area and the related safety aspects cannot be compromised. It is really a shame to promote the message saying "you see it works with A/S tires" while proving in the video itself it was a total disaster even in "totally standard" conditions a.k.a. no need to make an emergency breaking, slowing down downhill, etc... Anyway, Tommy if you read this, I know you will feel some emotions, don't sweat it, full respect to you as you are a true youtuber, you're taking criticism like a boss and never bashed me for my opinions! I will continue to watch your awesome videos and I really love your content and style! Please don't have me whacked! ❤

      All season tires not good in the summer and directly dangerous in the winter... All season tires have around 3 to 5 times longer breaking distance on snow and ice compared to real winter tires.

  • @a64738
    @a64738 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    All seasons tires is only tiny bit better then pure summer tires on snow and ice, in the winter with snow and ice REAL pure winter tires is what you need and the difference is HUGE to put it mildly . The difference between all season and winter tires is around 3 to 5 times longer breaking distance and it is really dangerous to drive with all season tires in actual winter conditions because of the horrible bad grip.
    If you drive with all season tires in the winter you should have snow chains and put them on when it is snow and ice or you will put other peoples lives in danger. (here all cars heavier then 3,5 tons is required to have show chains with them in the winter by law, and winter tires is also required by law).
