I've been dancing all my life and I can honestly say that it is the most therapeutic thing one can do for themselves. It's a freedom like no other and when you already have love for music and passion for dancing, it becomes one of the best part of your lives. Let it in your hearts
experience, experience, experience. a lot of teachers who talk too much are newer to it, and some are just gifted at some things, i think. Seaon, in my view, is one of those gifted at teaching salsa. plus, he's also really experienced, he's danced salsa for some time, and he's also danced it around the world, like really around the world, like not just visiting for a week or a weekend for a congress. he's lived in europe, danced in europe etc, and he seems to be back in the us now. so, he has seen students of every stripe, and all salsa teachers see all types of students, but he has really really seen so many dancers and students from all over the world literally!! so, he is really really experienced. if he doesnt get you to learn dancing salsa, no body will!!!!
Thanks so much for this lesson, love from Africa , Nigeria to be precise. Its easy to learn, I suffer from depression so i decided to learn something to get my mind off the bad thoughts going through my mind Turning to salsa and learning the basics here got me feeling so good, this is my new therapy. i haven't felt this good in a while, trying to get the steps spot on and finally achieving it made me feel so good.
NIIIICE, Grew up Kenya with Rumba, then teenage with reggae, went to dancehall and finally SALSA in my 30s . what have i been waiting for???? Thanks heaps Bristol!
I watched many-many videos online, YOU got me off my chair and dancing!! :) The whole setting and your wonderful motivational commentary and simple steps make it seem easy and I felt very enthusiastic. Once again thank you so much for sharing your wonderful video with us.
I've been practicing the very fist basic dance move for the past 30 minutes haha GOD please help me lol Am I the only one who's new to dancing? Awsome video by the way really straight forwards and great teaching. Thank you so much
what a GREAT instructor !! Video is a MUST for anyone wanting to learn from the very scratch ! I never thought I could learn a structured kind of dance... but this teacher is fab! :-)
Lately at the age of 36....I've been doing things that bring me joy. I love the way you train with detail, because I have two left legs 😊lol....I would love to take some classes with you ❤💃🏽
Maybe you should try getting the entire dance series, and REALLY studying Salsa. Salsa/Mambo is a dance form.. not something to just "move your body too" Sorry if we look like robots, but you could say the same thing for ballet dancers or jazz dancers no? If you study dance, then that's exactly what you do... STUDY dance!
That was one of the best tutorials. I watched a few before this one and I just couldn't get the basic. Then after watching once and then practicing a few times..I believe I got it. The turn was tricky.. But I got the side segment and the basic forward step. I'm into fitness and dance.. So I'll look to see if they have a Latin dance Exercise. Thanks for the very good teaching. You teach Well!
everyone has the own style and technique! I've learnt various styles from Cuban, LA and central. I guess its what you prefer. By the way, thanks for the video
I like ur teaching methods, I would love to follow ur beginners, intermediate and also advance levels. How to check all ur videos. Could you share all the links.
Hi there. I created this song specifically for my Instructional DVDs, but the title of this song is "Happy or Sad" :) All music for my Instructional DVDs can be found at www.OnSeanZion.com
Great instructional video for beginners! I know it’s rude to critique and know how much hard work it takes to do and share, however it’s all about the hip movement. Women need to take smaller steps in order for the natural hips to move without appearing as forced. Take a step back then rest your whole body on that hip then do it on the forward and side steps. You’ll notice how the hip naturally push out. Learning to take small steps is the most important in all dances. Swing, Latin...it not only looks better but also a space saver on the dance floor. I’ve taken 100’s of dance lessons from 25 - 30 teachers and all but one emphasis that. The movie Dance With Me w/Vanessa Williams & Chaz is worth watching. Great salsa dances.
the video i saw just before this one shows to to start with the right foot ab here it is the right foot, does that matter? in ballroom dancing the rules is rigid for men/women.
The Side Basic is sometimes called the "Cucaracha Step" by some salsa instructors, especially those instructors who are familiar teaching other Latin dances, especially in cha-cha and rumba.
so when the lady is facing her partner wouldn't she be backwards and therefore her one, is actually her right foot? I've seen other videos and now second guessing my steps. Do you have videos that show this, new dancer with two left feet ;)
I was thinking of buying the lessons... has anyone bought them? How many lessons are there in salsa on1 and salso on2? Are they as good as the preview? Thanks if anyone can help!
Don't worry about the haters. Someday they'll get it. I just started a Salsa class. I can't believe I put it off this long. I get to dance with lots of different women and at some point I'm sure I'll make some woman in my life very happy by being able to do these kinds of dances. Yea the free form dance is fun too but the 2 are very different activities. For you haters, take a single 1hr or 90min class before you knock it.
Hi there:) Fabulous teaching thank you. Can I ask why we always need to start on the left? Is there a reason? thank you. I am teaching Salsa at school and have always started on the right, like most dancers. Is there a cutural or technical reason for left foot> Thank you very much from NZ.
I don't know why everyone shows the basic steps stressing on the foot moves only without teaching shoulder, hips, and arm movements. I've been to beginners salsa dancing class and everyone looked like a robot doing this basic step. I am now a bit advanced than fresh beginners but still fail to achieve the smoothness as we see in this video. Please make another video and explain how to look good while doing basic steps. Thanks!
+Grejegando Before you move on to shoulders, hips and arms, you must know how to move your feet in the first place. What's the point of moving your arms and hips if you don't know how to do the steps at all. Note that focusing on your styling before you even know the basic can get in the way of your dancing. Once you get comfortable moving your feet, it's time for those arms and hips to show what they got. :)
+Marina Georgieva Thank you for your reply. I'm now much better, thanks to watching many videos and practicing a lot. The basic step (footwork) is so easy and that was never my problem. Like I said, doing the basic step without the right hips and upper body movement makes it look ugly. I believe there should be more videos focussing on that important part of the dance not just the footwork part which can be learned by most people in a very short time.
Marina Georgieva And by the way, it is not a matter of mastering the footwork because I have seen many advanced beginners and even intermediate salsa dancers who still look rigid while doing the basic steps. Without the right technique the move does not look smooth or sexy.
+Grejegando I second that. There is so much more to salsa than those simple basic steps. However, let's not forget that this is a beginner lesson and it's supposed to teach the very basics of salsa, which focus on feet. Later on, say after a couple of lessons, attention can and should be paid to the rest of the body because, like you said, salsa is not just about footwork. It involves the whole body, that's why it can be pretty challenging to be a real salsa dancer. It's about attitude, feeling, smoothness, rhythm, body control and yes, the right technique! Without a doubt, learning how to move your hips and shoulders without looking ridiculous is way more difficult than learning the basic step and you may be right that less focus is put on upper body movement when it comes to those salsa video lessons. It surely takes a lot of time and practice for one to master hips and shoulder movement. I think you can find some interesting videos about that on TH-cam, although it's really hard to sift out the good from the bad. I mean, there are tons of lessons but not all of them are really worth the time. Perhaps the best way to go is to find a local professional dancer who can be your guide. They will not only teach you the right technique, but also point out where you can go wrong and identify mistakes you are making.
Hello Miguel. I have a video about Salsa Timing On1 or On2 here on TH-cam...check it out. If you have 20mins to spare, it will help with this question. Thanks for stopping by :)
Hi Zeon. I have tried to suscribe to your channel but unable to do so. Your website doesn't appear to work. Please let me know how to do it. I would like to learn to dance salsa beyond the basic steps.
