Great vid, thanks. Madden called it, “some team will win 3 of last 5 and be the 5th wildcard team.” Giants won 3 of last 5 and were 5th wildcard team. Even won the wildcard rd game at Eagles before losing to eventual SB champ 49ers
I remember this game like yesterday! This 1981 loss to the G-Men sent my Eagles on a downward spiral that we never recovered from. Our season came to an abrupt end to these same Giants; a 28-21 home loss in the NFC Wildcard game.
1981 was the first season that CBS replace Tom Brookshier with John Madden as he and Pat Summerall became the greatest pro football broadcasting partnership of all time
@@gregpettis1113 Because CBS management felt that Summerall and Brookshier were too tight with each other as drinking buddies and it was impairing them both. A new CBS producer Terry O'Neill wanted Madden to be the new #1 analyst and while other CBS execs wanted Summerall demoted as well and have Madden paired with Vin Scully, O'Neill fought for Summerall on the grounds he'd improve with a partner like Madden instead of Brookshier. When Scully found he'd lost on being the #1 voice that's when he quit CBS and got his NBC gig doing the Game of the Week (which was a better move for him).
The trade for Rob Carpenter turned the Giants into a playoff team. He played as Earl Campbell’s blocker at Houston, but should have been used as a one-two punch. Rob was a strong runner with a low wide profile, making him difficult to tackle. Injuries derailed his career.
Great upload..thank you. If you look at the LBs at 3:05, all of them were solid. You couldn't name a LB corps for the Giants in the 80's that weren't a great unit
This PHILADELPHIA EAGLES 20-10 loss in 1981 to the N.Y. GIANTS had the same negative springboard effect that the DALLAS COWBOYS 31-10 loss in 1983 to the WASHINGTON REDSKINS did neither the EAGLES (1981) or COWBOYS (1983) recovered they both loss their respective Home Wild Card Games
The Giants the Eagles the Redskins and the Cowboys at this time we're starting to get great the Eagles or a little bit on a downslide but the whole conference in the whole division in the whole NFL didn't want to play the NFC East
Love all these Giants videos. Hey Ken, is there any way you could get the commercials out of that 1990 Bears-Giants playoff game? It's kind of hard to watch, seeing how I'm not in the market for a 1991 Camry. Thanks bro
Over 13 minutes without a commercial to start the game! Those days are long gone!
You can say that again
And the commercials had white people

Love it whenever I find a game called by Pat Summerall and John Madden.

Yes but Summerall Brookshire was a tad better in my opinion
@@shanetrimble9265 with all due respect, are you kidding me?
Why did they replace Brookshire
Summerall and Brookshire were partying too much.@@gregpettis1113

Best uniforms ever for both these teams.
Great game! Thanks for sharing.
Hey thanks again Ken! Always thrilled to see you've posted again!!!
Never watched a giants game before 84 when I became a fan, shall look forward to this not knowing or checking wiki for the result

Thank you!!
The game that you knew things were turning
Ironically Beasley Reese who was a safety for the Giants became a longtime Sports Broadcaster in Philadelphia who retired about 4 years ago.
thanks so much for this. i'll be watching this sunday with beer and wings
I watch old games on YT on Sunday instead of modern games. So much better and like a time machine.
Thanks so much. Keep'em coming
love the good ol' VHS zazizzle
Love watching Vincent parpalle playing from the movie invincible
Scott Brunner, the pride of the Delaware Blue Hens and rightfully so...

Good association
John Madden foreshadows Dick Vermeils burnout at 40:50
This game snapped a 12 game Giants losing streak. Had to happen sooner or later. It got worse for the Eagles.
When you say 12 game Giants losing streak, you mean the Giants lost 12 games before this game or 12 games against the Eagles.
18 years of suck and then finally, the Lawrence Taylor years
I guess we're about half way there now.

They might as well be playing on the parking lot outside
its so funny how the eagles fans boo after every bad play
Can you please upload more of Giants ‘86 games, primarily vs Seattle) Pleaseeeee, would be so thankful
Lol you really want that Seahawks game, Jenya. I'll see what I can do...
Ken Gelman Man, I really admire what you do for us, for NFL fans) It would be awesome to watch any games of Giants in 80s)))))
Wow, the losing streak vs the Eagle was 12 in a row; I thought it was only 8 in a row. That's awful.
The Giants the Eagles the Redskins and the Cowboys at this time we're starting to get great the Eagles or a little bit on a downslide but the whole conference in the whole division in the whole NFL didn't want to play the NFC East
including this game the Eagles only won 1 more game before the Giants beat them again in the playoffs.

Come on, that's the best part! I love the commercials! Seriously though, I don't have the equipment to strip them out so...sorry?
You did great by uploading! People are so lazy.
@@kengelman1011 Love the commercials! Always leave them in.
Man, Brunner was a terrible quarterback. Might have been one of the worst we ever had. Amazing they managed a decent season with him in 1981.
