I make my own hair mask.
    1 whole rip avacado
1/2 cup of Aloe vera gel or water
1/4 cup of vitamin E oil
    1/4 cup of jojoba oil
5 drops of lemon essential oil
    5 drops of lavander oil
    Mix in blender until smooth
I cover mine with 2 plastic caps and a towel i warmed up in the dryer. I usually let it sit for at least an hour and wash it out with luke warm water and finish with cold water. Hope this helps someone!!

      3 teaspoons of honey
And I wear that in a plastic cap for one hour

I find the same thing too. The natural hair community hates silicones but i need my conditioner to have silicones because thats what gives my hair the slip i need to detangle. This mask is good but i find i need heat to make it penetrate my low porosity hair.

The Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie didn't really work for me either. It just smells good but I would have to use a gel to help define my curls. A lot of Shea moisture products are hit and miss. Other than the manuka honey mask and the JBCO line, Shea moisture doesn't really hit for me

  • @malikahbey

when i went natural, i saw people using the shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie too. i used it and i literally hated it, it didn't enhance shit. it smelled good but it didnt do anything for me lol. no moisture and it didn't define any curls. with my 4c hair, i learned that twist outs are amazing for me as well as thick and moisturizing products. butters (shea, mango, etc.) work for me as well to seal in the moisture for days. the butters actually enhance my natural curls too

Hi Chazzzisawesome. Sitting under dryer does help with penetration of the conditioner when your is low porosity. The blow dryer may not have done you enough justice to get the product into your hair the way you needed it to happen for you. Also, I noticed how you finger-combed your hair with the product on it. The wide tooth comb probably would've helped you too. But all in all, your hair still looks fabulous doll! Keep up the great work.

I have to say i used this product cause i had protein overload and it worked so well for me! My hair was dry and tangled from using undiluted rice water (my mistake) and this was the only deep conditioner that brought the moisture back into my hair, leaving it soft and shiny! Now, i must say I have high porosity 3C/4A type hair so I think it all depends on your hair type and what porosity your hair is. This deep conditioner is now my holy grail product to use every week.

I have thick type 4 hair too and find the Shea Moisture deep conditioner a little too thick for my liking. With other runny liquids deep conditioners, I’m used to fully saturating my hair... but with this, it’s concentrated and often find myself using more than I need to.
I like to dilute the deep conditioner by mixing one part of the deep conditioner and 1/2 part water to make it more runny.. just enough to coat all my THICK hair while also making sure I don’t use more than needed. In the end, I get my runny consistency and save more product per application. Of course you want to use a decent amount of the actual product to properly DEEP CONDITION :)
Always works for me. Love how soft my hair feels with it. 🙌🏾👌🏾

This video is so relatable. We may be hair twins or something because back in those days I also tried the curl enhancing smoothie along with the hibiscus hair milk that came out with it at that time. I also tried that first shampoo and the deep conditioner with the tan label you know? the first one that came out after watching tons of videos. First of all ... I had a great experience with the shampoo. The deep condition, despite tons of great reviews, literally sat on my hair and didn't do anything but make it feel dry and stiff. the hibiscus hair milk was just ok....smelled great but like I could've got better results just using water and oil. Same with the smoothie... that for sure was the last straw! not only did i never pick up another shea moisture SINCE those 2009 days but I did actually end up only using water and oil in my hair ever since until recently (I fell in love with Camille Rose after a recommendation and hauled about 90% of her line.) Now that my hair is older and I'm yes bored of water and oil only I am now a die hard fan of this new line which actually melts and disappears into my hair instead of laying on top and offered IMMEDIATE results after the first use. blown away! I related so much to this video and had JUST told a friend this same thing the other day lol.

I know this will sound counter intuitive as you have low porosity hair, but give the Shea Moisture High Porosity Moisture Correct Masque a try. It's a bit "snotty" and loose and will literally run out of the jar if you tilt it. This is my favorite SM masque of all time as it goes on and sinks into my 4C hair easily, has decent slip and leaves my hair super moisturized. Real talk: I have eight jars of it in my closet right now--Target had a hell of a sale a while back and a sister STOCKED UP!! LOL

I think you should try applying it in the shower right after you wash and conditioner. When you sprayed the water even it sat on top of your hair. I think the trick really is to take advantage of the heat aspect to get the best benefits from any product, especially if you find the products tend to sit on top of your hair. I reccomend that you also invest in a dryer that covers your entire head. If purchasing an actual hooded dryer isn't in the designs for now, they have collapsible ones that you can attach to your hand held dryer. They are very affordable, usually under $20 and work wonders for conditioning. There's no way you could get a good consistent amount of concentrated heat using a hand held dryer. Either that or try a heated cap.

It was nice to see this video because I’ve never seen a video I could relate to even when I look for 4c hair videos this was the first one and I’ve been watching hair videos since high school it’s been about 10 years. Yes, I agree. One side of my hair seems not only thicker, but longer than the other side. Now, I too, used Shea moisture when I first went natural (2008-2008) and at first I was like, yeah, this is it. But, being the 4C, low porosity Chick that I am, not only did it begin to dry my hair out, my scalp was seriously irritated. Like, bugs were biting me. Around this time I came across "Natty Naturals" and my hair was grateful. I have been using Natty Naturals (leave in, and butter) since. Also, recently, I started using Bella Curls (dollar general for $5), the leave in, curling cream and deep conditioner, and co-wash and my hair loves it. At first, I was leary bc of my experience with SM and bc Natty Naturals have worked well for me. I am not dissing SM---and I have used several of their product lines. But, I personally will not waste my money again in their products. Also, I make my own shampoo from ABS and add honey to it..... marvelous!

I started with the Raw Shea line when my was a TWA than the curl enhancer smoothie....which I made work. Currently I just the JBCO line ,Hydration mask, Argan Oil leave in during the summer, and red plum oil pudding.
I honestly had no idea what people were talking about with the product suddenly not working....but this was around the same time people I watched said you hair changes and switching products around happens.
Cause when I started early on...I think I used Tajaid or what ever her line was( my hair hateeeeee her line now )and Beautiful Textures...and umm Giovani till my hair said noooooo.
Also side note the JBCO deep conditioner works better than the Hydration Honey Mask

So I use Carol Daughter's Black Vanilla hair smoothie, but only as a deep conditioner bc it doesn't help if I don't. I also use Gold n Hots Deep Conditioning Cap when I do this since I don't have a heated dryer. My hair is super soft and easy to detangle with my pick or wide tooth come regardless the length of my hair. I discovered this by accident but I love it. I'll include a copy of the link to both of these at the bottom in case anyone is interested. Now, I will say, U remember the first I used Shea Moisture, I was hoping for the same love everyone else spoke of and I was just left with a heap of disappointment. I tried multiple products, but their brand just doesn't work for me. With me having issues with seborrheic dermatitis, I limit my products bc if enough or certain products build up on my scalp, it becomes more sensitive and gross. If it wasn't for that, Carols Daughter's would've been my main course bc a good deal of their products worked for me.
