They need to wow me with one of these dlc. Hell bringing back forge from halo would be amazing. Could you imagine community created raids, pvp maps, strikes etc
It's really not that bad. I'd still consider myself a fan in the casual sense, even though I barely play D2, just because I keep up with the info and I'm still a fan of the setting and art design. I just play other stuff until something happens with D2 to make me interested again. And I still hold out hope that it'll become amazing at some point, but that doesn't fill me with some kind of deep depression. It's not like an abusive relationship because you have all the control in this situation to just not play the game. It's a really easy position we're in.
Another 12 months of fixes to get the game closer to where the first one ended. I don't even know if I can be bothered to see every one in September. I cannot believe this. in a short amount of time gone from loving something to loathing it. Think it's time to move on

Don't understand why people get so excited about this blog post. You will have at the end of 2018 a game that is maybe half as decent as Destiny 1 was plus you will have to buy DLC 2 and 3 in addition to that. You will have to wait for months until more content will drop, there are so many games to enjoy out there. Destiny hasn't lost me as a gamer, but bungie has lost me as a customer with their greedy bs.
SkailTV destiny 2 wont be fixed, and it will never be what we want. This shows that a shitty game will be treated like shit, and developers like bungie need to do something about it. I was glad to see this even though I won't be really touching destiny 2, as it's a fave of progress for bunie, and other developers. It may not take effect now, but it's a good thing to have happen in the long run.
i don't think Bungie should be praised for putting things back into the game that we had in D1. Its now stupidly obvious that either 1. This is not the direction they wanted to go with the game (and maybe that whole reboot thing that has not been confirmed or denied, may actually have some merit) or 2. They were deliberately holding content back for future updates. Either way its super obnoxious, and its backfired horribly. We shouldn't have to wait for year 3 in Destiny 2 for this game to get good. It should have just built off the foundations that Destiny 1 made. LIke you Datto, i'm just tired of waiting.
Elaborate Corpse exactly Destiny 2 will be a good game or claim to be a good game two years from now because they implemented everything from Destiny 1 and I can see it now if they do come out with Destiny 3 they'll have the same horrible launch of no content and then they will slowly start building the pieces back from Destiny 2
A sequel is suppose to build from what was left off in the original. Destiny 2 did not do that, instead, they scrapped everything as if Destiny 1 was a failure. They basically removed all the activities to have "Content" for events like the dawning and Crimson days. Both events have a game mode that you can go play RIGHT NOW on Destiny 1. This type of "Content" is not Content. It is a replay just with different weapon systems (which are worse do to classing shotguns and snipers with power weapons, making them hardly used compared to Destiny 1.) Destiny 2 in itself is amazing, but it acts like Destiny has never existed and in reality, we already played it so it just feels like I Re-bought that feeling of having something New even though it wasn't. A sequel should use what it has already, and improve. Not remove and re update the game for another painful few years. This should never have happened in the first place.
Destiny 2 likely was designed with the assumption that Destiny 1 was a failure. Put yourself into Bungie's shoes for a moment, they started working on Destiny 2 right after Destiny 1 was released. Now what was D1's reception looking like in those early months, when Bungie would have been laying out their greater design goals for D2? By the time D1 was salvaged a year later it was too late to massively change gears for D2's development, that D1 was further improved from there just makes it even worse. So we are left with something that is a huge step up from vanilla D1, but is lacking compared to the final version of D1 in many ways. This is going to be something that will plague Bungie throughout Destiny's entire lifespan. A sequel is supposed to iterate on what came before, but how does that work when the thing you are iterating on continues evolving as you are actively developing the new thing?
I do not understand why people put any stock into what Jason Schreier has to say in these matters, he has been dead wrong plenty of times regarding Destiny info. Like when he claimed the Pyramidion was going to be a new raid set on Mars released for D1 sometime after Taken King, and rather than own up to being wrong about that he just deletes the article where he made the claim. The notion that Destiny 2 was made in just 16 months is ridiculous, if that is actually true then Bungie are miracle workers to have churned as much content as they did compared to the original game which had a development period three times as long.

I was a Day 1 Destiny fan and spent over 4000 hours playing it. Played every raid over 30 times, had full sets of everything and had every exotic etc. I pretty much completed that game.. but with Destiny 2 I just wasn't feeling it. I played the raid once, went flawless once and only played with 1 character (305 light) and that's it, stopped playing the game for 3 months now. I just played the missions of the new DLC since I bought the DLC pass (something I regret).. The changes are promising but this is like the Taken King all over again. An uncompleted game, with Bungie wasting all the time fixing the game rather than focusing on creative ideas and providing new content.
To datto: I played d1 for a over 3000h psn polish_napkin and I don’t play d2 any more. Ive definitely become disenchanted with bungie and destiny to the point I haven’t played it in over a month. Ive left comments on your videos saying you are too soft and just say what you really feel. Finally in your final thoughts you summed up my feelings exactly and I commend you for it. I’m 29 years old and work in the real world for a living. I gave bungie a chance with d1 because it had a heart and I stuck with it. But in d2 with this soulless pieced together rebooted piece of shit garbage they put out and happily took my money plus put in a bunch of bs predatory eververse garbage shows that the leadership doesn’t care. Most of the “team” is developing destiny 3. They telling me a studio with 800 can’t implement basic bitch changes back into the game in less than 9 months is ludicrous. They have different priorities and that is too make more money and develop d3 and other dlc to make us spend spend spend. ChickenBoy260 you seem to be missing the point about “worth your time” not your money. Any game is worth 50-60 dollars but the question is, is it worth the hours you invest in it waiting your life away for changes.
I wish all of this was in the game at the beginning. I havent played since the week of PC release and I havent had a reason to pick it up again. I have like 1500 hours in D1 in D2 I have a little over 100 hours. Seeing all these changes I might pick it up again.
Bryce Jonathan my D1 and D2 hours are similar to yours. Seeing the changes makes me nostalgic too. But if I'm being honest, I'll never play the way I used to. D2 will never be the first game I log into and I'll never play for hours straight. Most importantly, there's no way I'll buy D3 or give one more penny to Bungie.
Old Red Sled your missing out then, yea it's nothing like D1 was but it's still fun and the remaining community is still one of the best there is and when the game is finally(hopefully) back to the way D1 was after age of triumph you'll be depriving yourself of an amazing experience because of a lackluster launch. I would say if you don't enjoy it now probably wait until after the fall expansion(if there is one) b4 coming back so everything will be back to normal by then and everything will be new, and next time just don't preorder or buy at launch just wait a couple weeks to a month to see what D3 is like b4 you buy but if it's great and if D2 is fixed it's worth it to come back. Look at The Division/Seige/Battlefield 4 for examples of games fixed later in life that became amazing games that deserve ppls time. Don't miss out on a great experience and friendships just because you initially burned.
We all wish it was, but at this point it's not worth it to keep saying that, it's not gonna fix what happened or send us back in time, it happened and we have to just get over it and move forward hoping it will eventually get back to age of triumph days, prob with the fall expansion.
Imagine where the game would be by September if all of these things were in the foundation of Destiny 2. They could be introducing new and exciting things in expansions and live updates, but instead we have to wait for them to reintroduce old things. I hope this will mean big things for the next September expansion, being that all of these changes will have been implemented by then.
To make it simple, D1's launch was similar to D2. Most people left except for the Veterans stayed behind to support the game as they still believe in Bungie. Their feedback and support helped Bungie shaped and revived D1. This loyalty and faith by the veterans lasted for 3 years. Then D2 came out, and we are back to square one again. Veterans are TIRED of going through another 3 years to get the promised game. What added on to the salt was that: Destiny 2 was made by: Bungie[700+ people]. High Moon Studios. That other studio. Vicarious Visions, a studio that ported D2 to PC. All this massive benefits created a game like this? WHAT?! Sales of D1, D2 and all DLC had provided a large amount of profit. Bungie even promised that: All the feedback and knowledge gained from D1 will be used to improve D2. But in the end, none of it was PRESENT in D2, so Bungie has to start adding them again. All of our gear and achievements will be carried over to D2, and this drives veterans to play D1 constantly. Lack of communication during the first few months of D2's launch. D2 uses an upgraded engine of D1. Bungie said that they could make content much much faster with this new engine. Since D1 and D2 are made with the same Engine, it is easy to bring stuff from D1 to D2. But Bungie did not take advantage of that. D2's advertisements were misleading when fans played the final product. This explains why D2 had so much hype. But in the end, it turns out none of their gained 'perks' were applied in D2. Why are we veterans tired of waiting years and years of what is promised? It is because LIFE IS SHORT. So you want us to wait 6 years to get the true Destiny as advertised in 2012? Most of us here come back home from work or school just to play the game during the days of D1 to enjoy. D1 made a legacy for us. With D2 being this shitty, it is very difficult to drop the game as we had spent so much time on D1, or the whole franchise itself. Since we loved Destiny and Bungie, we refused to shut up and will always fight to make this game better for everyone and that includes YOU, with proper civil feedback of course. Downvote me all you want, but just remember that it was the veterans that carried D1 out of the flames. They saved D1, and they will do it again for D2. Sometimes, salt is needed to make a dish taste better.
Ashhkier_ I agree with you. I was a D1 veteran from Alpha/Beta days and the 1st E3 reveal had me hooked. I stood by them for 3 years hoping. I found Bungie in the 90s with Marathon, Oni and then Halo. I was hoping they would take everything from D1 and Age of Triumph and learn and build on that. D2 has gone backwards IMO. And Bungie is repeating all the same poor communication, the "we are listening" BS and the ridiculously slow responses and changes. I AM DONE This veteran is not doing it again. Sorry Bungie, but good luck, I won't be supporting this studio any longer. Enjoy the Eververse profits.
All I want is reworked perks. I miss random rolls, I miss perks that actually did something, I miss being able to modify the stats of your weapons. It’ll probably never go back to the way it was, but we’ll see

It’s sad that they didn’t talk about the Time to kill and they very vaguely said they would change weapon loadouts by FALL 2018. Trash company. I don’t know anybody that will play trials for the next 9 months with it being the way it is right now. Unless they do recoveries.
The crucible "balancing" simply destroyed the whole game. Nobody is "powerful" now. Not the guardians and not even the enemies. A guardian from D1 can obliterate an army of limp dick guardians from D2.
I don't really see what made the difference in modifying your weapons or Random Rolls. You're just gonna try to only get the OPAF Rolls and just leave it at that while barely changing the perks on it
It doesn't matter what Bungie adds to this game, they've already lost me as a customer. I'll play until DLC2 comes out since I was dumb enough to buy the season pass, but after that I'm done with this game and with Bungie. There is no way I'll trust them again, they've lied and screwed over their fans since the launch of D2 and these band aid fixes after MONTHS of issues does nothing to change my opinion of them. Worst thing is not only have they lost my money for Destiny 2 onwards they won't get my money for Destiny 3 either since I flat out refuse to support them anymore, they don't deserve it.
Dead serious, you should try The Division again. I didn't really like it at first. Total 180, I'm glad Ubisoft stuck with it and fixed almost every gripe I had with the game.
Vadállat Skilled I've seen solo builds using the Nomad gear set. If you mean getting into it without friends.... I started where I left off at tier 4 (general world difficulty 4/5) and didn't have any problems matchmaking. People are really getting back into it.
I echo the exhausted/fed up sentiment. They pulled out so many destiny 1 features and then you have to wait to have them again. On top of that CoO was really boring, this is an expensive game $90 at launch, and we'll have a paid expansion this September... and I can't justify buying in when the fun factor isn't there.

Cedric Pitts i think more so it is the quality of the updates. Together they are all good, but it is hard to get excited about masterwork armor. It is like if all the big Taken King changes were made slowly during year 1. Sure those changes would exist, but it is kinda hard to go “oh boy! A kiosk!”
They can’t move mountains. That needs to be acknowledged up front. Reasonable people understand that they can’t just re-program the entire game in a month, push out an update, and make it all better. Having said that, I think was pisses me off so much is that I really felt that Age of Triumph D1 was an 8/10 game. It really was. I expected D2 to build on that, not take away so much of what made D1 good in the end. What really frustrates me here is this continued push of essentially giving us things back that we either A) already had in D1 and should never have been taken away to begin with and, B) have come to expect in a AAA game to begin with. I’ll login and play it occasionally, but despite my myriad D1 raid completions and all the countless hours I poured into it, I still have not completed Leviathan even once and (quite frankly) I have no desire to do so.
Billy Bob I don't know if they've changed it (I haven't played since before Curse of Osiris) but when I played the Leviathan my team wiped more to glitches than anything else. It really ruined the raid for me and it made the raid feel almost as bad as Crota's End. The updates that they are doing are nice but I won't return until they prove that they are permanently moving away from shady practices with lootboxes and not just waiting out the storm.
I haven’t picked up d2 since a month after release... but I don’t think end of d1 was the best time in destiny I think the problems already started there. Exotics were no longer special and came from three of coins. Raids were not mandatory for the best gear or highest light so many didn’t bother doing them. Primaries and exotics nerfed to oblivion. I miss d1 but I miss the grind for the exotics or raid items which wouldn’t drop that made me complete 3 raids as soon as the reset hit. I remember how I got stuff like fatebringer, vex, ghallohorn, icebreaker, hunger of crota... can’t even tell you names of weapons in wrath of machine or taken king... Not sure if we will see a fun destiny where u had to complete something meaningful to get the best stuff!
No I agree anything from d1 was better than what they put into d2 just think some the stuff we are left with now started late d1 but not on this scale and wasn’t as obvious as still lots to do in d1
I honestly think they left out a lot of the fan-favorite activities from D1 so they can justify some of the DLC content, giving us a false sense of satisfactory. #voidwalkerforlife
Bungie was woefully unprepared for Destiny 2. I have absolutely no clue how a studio with so many employees and resources at their disposal thought it was a good idea to ship the game as it was; especially after they had the entire lifespan of Destiny 1 to learn from. This is the biggest shitshow of a company/game.

There aren't "kiosks" within the vault for ships or sparrows. Wouldn't hurt to have one for ghost either. I know ghost shells are pretty pointless right now, but i still like to collect them.

I stopped playing D1 after a few months and came back when TTK was released. Looks like I’ll be doing the same with D2. I’m not sure if I want to come back though, this is sad.
Quick note on the raid vendor: It takes 20 coins to get a rank up (unless they change it), and the current way that vendor gear works is that you have to unlock the gear every 2 engrams (Class Item > Boots > Gloves > Chest > Helmet + Random Weapon). So you won't immediately be able to buy all the gear outright even if you have enough tokens and you'd have to do the raid more than once to even unlock the first item to buy (and make sure you have enough coins to buy the think after the rank up).

Too little too late came to me when my hype died for the game after learning scalpers bought most of the collector's editions hours after their announcement. I didn't want to belive it at first but after looking it up I was awestruck.
This is why I love your channel my man, since the beginning. We've got the same views/interests and mindset when it comes to these things, and somehow, you encapsulate everything that I'm thinking about in your "Thoughts" videos. This tiring cycle of content already in existence, and not being implemented Day 1, as well as locking content from the base-game behind DLC pay walls, is just so filthy and over-done. Looks like you, me, and everyone else are going to have to wait over a year to actually get the game we paid for. Again. I just hope they learn their lesson from this year's player base back-lash from titles such as EA, and get it together. Because honestly, I don't think I'll be able to do another waiting game scenario for Destiny 3's release in the late future. Though, hoping for the best in this game's growth, and the rest yet to come.
Thanks for the analysis. Most of these are quality of life improvements which are always nice to see. What I find weird however and the thing that no major Destiny youtuber has talked about, is how the game lacks 'content'. And I'm not sure if this lack of content can be remedied at this point, given Bungie's track record. Even if these quality of life improvements are implemented, the question remains: "What do we do with these?" Are we intended to go play Crucible all day long? There are only 5-6 Strike missions which are also repeated in Nightfalls. Same is true for Public Events. What exactly does Bungie wants the player base to 'come back to'? Usually, when the second iteration of a game decides to repeat the tried and true formula, it does it 'bigger' and 'larger' and 'more'. Unfortunately, what is 'more' in D2 is just cutscenes.
I feel the same way as you with what you talked about toward the end.......... "Too Little, Too Late" its clearly going to take a long time for them to bring everything they said and It was already things we enjoyed from D1 :( Great video though
So well put Datto. I love Destiny and I feel exactly like you do. I’m pulling for Bungie but it’s really heart breaking to see Destiny 2 in the state it is in right now. The things they left out and changed made me feel like they basically ignored their players that supported them from day one. Honestly, it’s tough being a Destiny 2 player and a Bungie fan right now. It’s going to be really hard to wait.
Cropod first..clearly you don't PvP because rockets aren't used anymore than any other heavy except sniper. 2.. I use fusion.. 3. Bungie does need to do something to promote sniper/shotty/fusion a little more in pvp. And 4. In pve I could careless what I shoot an npc w.. Just that it dies and I can move on from that encounter
In the raid, people only use the raid rocket. In pvp it literally doesn't matter because you are guaranteed to get team shot by anything. I dunno what platform you play on, but I respect the fusion rifle. Not many like you. I myself often rock the new monarchy sniper, because there's no scope sway. I play on pc.

I kinda think the entire community is really tired of defending the potential destiny has as a game. Like everyone thinks it COULD be incredible.. but everyone is kind of sick of waiting for it to actually happen.
I am pleased that that are putting back some of those quality of life improvements that they added to improve the quality of life in Destiny 1. But.... I cannot get past the fact that we shouldn’t be getting this in a future update. It should have been here at launch. There’s not getting away from that. Had the game been shipped in the state where it had quality of life features on par with those added during the lifecycle of Destiny 1, then Bungie wouldn’t be having to put in the time and effort to recreate and instead would be able to utilise their resources to simply CREATE. Bungie have really put themselves between the proverbial rock and a hard place. No amount of “hey look, we’re bringing this back!” was going to make us all happy and super enthusiastic again. Dammit Bungie, you spent 3 years learning how to Destiny. Don’t spend the next 3 relearning it.

About the map: I was really pleased to see the introduction if a map in D2, just having one is a big improvement over D1 in this regard. However, it's a bit of a mystery to me that this map doesn't have fairly common features such as: centering on player, setting custom waypoints, seeing fireteam members. I don't know how complicated these things are to put in, but it seems like including them should have been pretty self-evident. Practically every other game with a map has these features, and sometimes more.
It's going to really be about that balance patch. And how the crucible changes are implemented, whether it's a knee jerk fix or 6v6 for example actually works in the current maps and modes and meta.
It really is a case of too little too late, I paid out for a game and it’s expansions on faith that Bungle had learned their lesson throughout D1. They haven’t and their repeat mistakes means the game is repeating the same shit it’s predecessor went through, only this time Bungle have gotten way more insidious in their behaviour and greed and do not care about us only how much money they can squeeze out. I completely agree with what you say Datto that these changes will be good, but having to wait another 8 months for the game to implement old D1 features and still will be a poor imitation of that game, D2 should have built upon all the good from D1 not strip it away and sell it back to us in DLC or belated updates. And all these updates coming just in time for the next round of dlc expansions as well, sorry Bungle you have more than enough time to get it done way before then instead of “hey look at how great the game is now buy the expansions” before anybody gets chance to actually see what difference the changes make. Enough is enough for me I have loyally stuck by throughout D1 through its highs and many lows and tried to stick with D2 but no more. I recently switched to Warframe to give it a try and my god it’s head and shoulders above anything D2 could hope to achieve as a replay-able, varied, content rich satisfying loot grinder and I don’t regret it for one second. On top of that Monster Hunter World is nearly here as well which promises to be another replay-able, varied and satisfying content rich loot grinder.
Datto I appreciate you still covering this game but I think this might be it. Most of the other destiny youtubers have given up on Destiny 2 and you are the main content creator that still does coverage on this game. We will have to wait after Expansion 2: God of Mars to see if Bungie still cares about our community or will just fuck it up and go straight to Destiny 3 and if they do this I would be shocked if you or everybody else defends them for this. Honestly I’ve gotten tired of this game and so have a lot of my friends but I will continue to keep watching your videos because it gives me hope that Bungie will go back to the old Halo days where they cared about their community.
I just want my tier 12 grind and movement system back. those two things are all that's needed to get me to buy both of the expansions. Grinding tier 12 in an item set that looked nice was the most fun thing ever.
I think the biggest thing I saw on there that sets apart from (not all but) so many other games is the additions to the base game and the inclusion of those who don't have any of the expansions in so much of the content. I am seeing some hope on the horizon. I'll grant you it's dim because so much of it is "Yay! It's getting to the way it should have launched at in the first place!"

Had to pause the video and respond. Datto when you say "I don't know why raid specific perks left" the answer is pretty simple. Having them in the game massively disincentivises the Eververse armour sets because the raid gear is just straight up better and the raid specific perks can only exist on that armour. We waited too long for D1 to be a great game, and Bungie went 100 miles in reverse with the train wreck D2 is. I refuse to play a lazy cash grab literally designed to kill the game. D1 is still my favorite game of all time, but D2 can burn, and I hope it does. Bungie needs to be shown that shit like D2 is not acceptable and will not succeed. Simple enough.
What Bungie needs to do is pull a “The Division” where they brought actual players from all types of game modes like pvp pve incursions and had them actually help them fix the damn game
1) Decrease the power ammo drop rate to a minute or even 50 seconds depending on the map 2) Put a debuff called "Reserves or whatever" on the player that ticks every second until the player picks up power ammo or the match ends. 3) Make rocket launchers and very powerful weapons like the colony and telesto (yeah, telesto) require 90 of this buff to be able to load with power ammo. Now you can have a shotgun/fusion rifle/sniper/grenade launcher more often than a rocket launcher but you still cant have a shotgun and rocket launcher at the same time in your loadout, which bungie seems to want because of competitive possibilities. I don''t know where people stand on swords.
Thanks Datto, I share your sentiments. The wait sucks and all these things for the most part are either bringing things back from Destiny or things that should have been implemented early on or shipped with the main game. It definitely sucks that most of what we're getting from Bungie is the stuff that should have been here in the first place and we have to wait for it....I just hope this game doesn't die before the changes happen.
One thing I felt they could have done is allow a majority of these items available as dircet purchases from Amanda Holliday and Eva Levante(provided she is actually not dead). It would help off set the need for a lot of items in the bright engrams.
Overall, I was actually very happy for once when I saw the massive dev notes on the many changes they are looking to bring but, not too long after though, I started to feel the same way you did. I'm exhausted on waiting for a game that many like me and others bought to get where it needs to be to justify the original price of admission plus the $20 lackluster DLC. Especially the amount of waiting we already had done with the original (and money spent) but, we got through it because me and the rest of the community saw a light at the end of the tunnel. But, now we've jumped yet into another tunnel of darkness but, this time we don't know if we'll see light ever again.

It's really not that bad. I'd still consider myself a fan in the casual sense, even though I barely play D2, just because I keep up with the info and I'm still a fan of the setting and art design. I just play other stuff until something happens with D2 to make me interested again. And I still hold out hope that it'll become amazing at some point, but that doesn't fill me with some kind of deep depression.
It's not like an abusive relationship because you have all the control in this situation to just not play the game. It's a really easy position we're in.

Don't understand why people get so excited about this blog post. You will have at the end of 2018 a game that is maybe half as decent as Destiny 1 was plus you will have to buy DLC 2 and 3 in addition to that. You will have to wait for months until more content will drop, there are so many games to enjoy out there. SkailTV destiny 2 wont be fixed, and it will never be what we want. This shows that a shitty game will be treated like shit, and developers like bungie need to do something about it. I was glad to see this even though I won't be really touching destiny 2, as it's a fave of progress for bunie, and other developers. It may not take effect now, but it's a good thing to have happen in the long run.
i don't think Bungie should be praised for putting things back into the game that we had in D1. Its now stupidly obvious that either 1. This is not the direction they wanted to go with the game (and maybe that whole reboot thing that has not been confirmed or denied, may actually have some merit) or 2. They were deliberately holding content back for future updates. Either way its super obnoxious, and its backfired horribly.
We shouldn't have to wait for year 3 in Destiny 2 for this game to get good. It should have just built off the foundations that Destiny 1 made. LIke you Datto, i'm just tired of waiting.

A sequel is suppose to build from what was left off in the original. Destiny 2 did not do that, instead, they scrapped everything as if Destiny 1 was a failure. They basically removed all the activities to have "Content" for events like the dawning and Crimson days. Both events have a game mode that you can go play RIGHT NOW on Destiny 1. This type of "Content" is not Content. It is a replay just with different weapon systems (which are worse do to classing shotguns and snipers with power weapons, making them hardly used compared to Destiny 1.) Destiny 2 in itself is amazing, but it acts like Destiny has never existed and in reality, we already played it so it just feels like I Re-bought that feeling of having something New even though it wasn't. A sequel should use what it has already, and improve. Not remove and re update the game for another painful few years. This should never have happened in the first place.

Destiny 2 likely was designed with the assumption that Destiny 1 was a failure. Put yourself into Bungie's shoes for a moment, they started working on Destiny 2 right after Destiny 1 was released. Now what was D1's reception looking like in those early months, when Bungie would have been laying out their greater design goals for D2? By the time D1 was salvaged a year later it was too late to massively change gears for D2's development, that D1 was further improved from there just makes it even worse. So we are left with something that is a huge step up from vanilla D1, but is lacking compared to the final version of D1 in many ways.
This is going to be something that will plague Bungie throughout Destiny's entire lifespan. A sequel is supposed to iterate on what came before, but how does that work when the thing you are iterating on continues evolving as you are actively developing the new thing?

I do not understand why people put any stock into what Jason Schreier has to say in these matters, he has been dead wrong plenty of times regarding Destiny info. Like when he claimed the Pyramidion was going to be a new raid set on Mars released for D1 sometime after Taken King, and rather than own up to being wrong about that he just deletes the article where he made the claim. The notion that Destiny 2 was made in just 16 months is ridiculous, if that is actually true then Bungie are miracle workers to have churned as much content as they did compared to the original game which had a development period three times as long.

I was a Day 1 Destiny fan and spent over 4000 hours playing it. Played every raid over 30 times, had full sets of everything and had every exotic etc. I pretty much completed that game.. but with Destiny 2 I just wasn't feeling it. I played the raid once, went flawless once and only played with 1 character (305 light) and that's it, stopped playing the game for 3 months now. I just played the missions of the new DLC since I bought the DLC pass (something I regret)..
The changes are promising but this is like the Taken King all over again. An uncompleted game, with Bungie wasting all the time fixing the game rather than focusing on creative ideas and providing new content.

To datto: I played d1 for a over 3000h psn polish_napkin and I don’t play d2 any more. Ive definitely become disenchanted with bungie and destiny to the point I haven’t played it in over a month. Ive left comments on your videos saying you are too soft and just say what you really feel. Finally in your final thoughts you summed up my feelings exactly and I commend you for it. I’m 29 years old and work in the real world for a living. I gave bungie a chance with d1 because it had a heart and I stuck with it. But in d2 with this soulless pieced together rebooted piece of shit garbage they put out and happily took my money plus put in a bunch of bs predatory eververse garbage shows that the leadership doesn’t care. Most of the “team” is developing destiny 3. They telling me a studio with 800 can’t implement basic bitch changes back into the game in less than 9 months is ludicrous. They have different priorities and that is too make more money and develop d3 and other dlc to make us spend spend spend. I wouldn’t say watching Datto’s Destiny videos support the game at all. They support Datto, and that’s why I watch all his videos.
I wish all of this was in the game at the beginning. I havent played since the week of PC release and I havent had a reason to pick it up again. I have like 1500 hours in D1 in D2 I have a little over 100 hours. Seeing all these changes I might pick it up again.
Bryce Jonathan my D1 and D2 hours are similar to yours. Seeing the changes makes me nostalgic too. But if I'm being honest, I'll never play the way I used to. D2 will never be the first game I log into and I'll never play for hours straight. Most importantly, there's no way I'll buy D3 or give one more penny to Bungie.
Those meaningful changes are a long way off, u're looking at Q3/Q4 2018.
Old Red Sled your missing out then, yea it's nothing like D1 was but it's still fun and the remaining community is still one of the best there is and when the game is finally(hopefully) back to the way D1 was after age of triumph you'll be depriving yourself of an amazing experience because of a lackluster launch. I would say if you don't enjoy it now probably wait until after the fall expansion(if there is one) b4 coming back so everything will be back to normal by then and everything will be new, and next time just don't preorder or buy at launch just wait a couple weeks to a month to see what D3 is like b4 you buy but if it's great and if D2 is fixed it's worth it to come back. Look at The Division/Seige/Battlefield 4 for examples of games fixed later in life that became amazing games that deserve ppls time. Don't miss out on a great experience and friendships just because you initially burned.
We all wish it was, but at this point it's not worth it to keep saying that, it's not gonna fix what happened or send us back in time, it happened and we have to just get over it and move forward hoping it will eventually get back to age of triumph days, prob with the fall expansion.
Imagine where the game would be by September if all of these things were in the foundation of Destiny 2. They could be introducing new and exciting things in expansions and live updates, but instead we have to wait for them to reintroduce old things. I hope this will mean big things for the next September expansion, being that all of these changes will have been implemented by then.

Most people left except for the Veterans stayed behind to support the game as they still believe in Bungie. Their feedback and support helped Bungie shaped and revived D1. This loyalty and faith by the veterans lasted for 3 years.
Then D2 came out, and we are back to square one again. Veterans are TIRED of going through another 3 years to get the promised game.

All of our gear and achievements will be carried over to D2, and this drives veterans to play D1 constantly.
Lack of communication during the first few months of D2's launch.
D2 uses an upgraded engine of D1. Bungie said that they could make content much much faster with this new engine. Since D1 and D2 are made with the same Engine, it is easy to bring stuff from D1 to D2. But Bungie did not take advantage of that.
D2's advertisements were misleading when fans played the final product.
This explains why D2 had so much hype. But in the end, it turns out none of their gained 'perks' were applied in D2.
Why are we veterans tired of waiting years and years of what is promised?
It is because LIFE IS SHORT. So you want us to wait 6 years to get the true Destiny as advertised in 2012?
Most of us here come back home from work or school just to play the game during the days of D1 to enjoy. D1 made a legacy for us. With D2 being this shitty, it is very difficult to drop the game as we had spent so much time on D1, or the whole franchise itself.
Since we loved Destiny and Bungie, we refused to shut up and will always fight to make this game better for everyone and that includes YOU, with proper civil feedback of course.
Downvote me all you want, but just remember that it was the veterans that carried D1 out of the flames. They saved D1, and they will do it again for D2.

Ashhkier_ I agree with you. I was a D1 veteran from Alpha/Beta days and the 1st E3 reveal had me hooked. I stood by them for 3 years hoping. I found Bungie in the 90s with Marathon, Oni and then Halo.
I was hoping they would take everything from D1 and Age of Triumph and learn and build on that.
D2 has gone backwards IMO. And Bungie is repeating all the same poor communication, the "we are listening" BS and the ridiculously slow responses and changes.

The crucible "balancing" simply destroyed the whole game. Nobody is "powerful" now. Not the guardians and not even the enemies. A guardian from D1 can obliterate an army of limp dick guardians from D2.
Random perks are what bad players want. they want luck to outweigh skill.
I don't really see what made the difference in modifying your weapons or Random Rolls. You're just gonna try to only get the OPAF Rolls and just leave it at that while barely changing the perks on it
It doesn't matter what Bungie adds to this game, they've already lost me as a customer. I'll play until DLC2 comes out since I was dumb enough to buy the season pass, but after that I'm done with this game and with Bungie. There is no way I'll trust them again, they've lied and screwed over their fans since the launch of D2 and these band aid fixes after MONTHS of issues does nothing to change my opinion of them. Worst thing is not only have they lost my money for Destiny 2 onwards they won't get my money for Destiny 3 either since I flat out refuse to support them anymore, they don't deserve it.

On top of that CoO was really boring, this is an expensive game $90 at launch, and we'll have a paid expansion this September... and I can't justify buying in when the fun factor isn't there.

Cedric Pitts i think more so it is the quality of the updates. Together they are all good, but it is hard to get excited about masterwork armor. It is like if all the big Taken King changes were made slowly during year 1. Sure those changes would exist, but it is kinda hard to go “oh boy! A kiosk!”
They can’t move mountains. That needs to be acknowledged up front. Reasonable people understand that they can’t just re-program the entire game in a month, push out an update, and make it all better.
Having said that, I think was pisses me off so much is that I really felt that Age of Triumph D1 was an 8/10 game. It really was. I expected D2 to build on that, not take away so much of what made D1 good in the end. What really frustrates me here is this continued push of essentially giving us things back that we either A) already had in D1 and should never have been taken away to begin with and, B) have come to expect in a AAA game to begin with.
I’ll login and play it occasionally, but despite my myriad D1 raid completions and all the countless hours I poured into it, I still have not completed Leviathan even once and (quite frankly) I have no desire to do so.
Dan Conger the leviathan raid is actually not bad. The raid lair is way too short and the rewards are a complete joke.
Billy Bob I don't know if they've changed it (I haven't played since before Curse of Osiris) but when I played the Leviathan my team wiped more to glitches than anything else. It really ruined the raid for me and it made the raid feel almost as bad as Crota's End. The updates that they are doing are nice but I won't return until they prove that they are permanently moving away from shady practices with lootboxes and not just waiting out the storm.
I haven’t picked up d2 since a month after release... but I don’t think end of d1 was the best time in destiny I think the problems already started there. Exotics were no longer special and came from three of coins. Raids were not mandatory for the best gear or highest light so many didn’t bother doing them. Primaries and exotics nerfed to oblivion.
I miss d1 but I miss the grind for the exotics or raid items which wouldn’t drop that made me complete 3 raids as soon as the reset hit. I remember how I got stuff like fatebringer, vex, ghallohorn, icebreaker, hunger of crota... can’t even tell you names of weapons in wrath of machine or taken king...
Not sure if we will see a fun destiny where u had to complete something meaningful to get the best stuff!

Bungie was woefully unprepared for Destiny 2. I have absolutely no clue how a studio with so many employees and resources at their disposal thought it was a good idea to ship the game as it was; especially after they had the entire lifespan of Destiny 1 to learn from. This is the biggest shitshow of a company/game.

I stopped playing D1 after a few months and came back when TTK was released. Looks like I’ll be doing the same with D2. I’m not sure if I want to come back though, this is sad.

Quick note on the raid vendor: It takes 20 coins to get a rank up (unless they change it), and the current way that vendor gear works is that you have to unlock the gear every 2 engrams (Class Item > Boots > Gloves > Chest > Helmet + Random Weapon). So you won't immediately be able to buy all the gear outright even if you have enough tokens and you'd have to do the raid more than once to even unlock the first item to buy (and make sure you have enough coins to buy the think after the rank up).

Long story short: too little too late
Cameron Riggins in the words of TotalBiscuit: “‘Too little, too late’ is one of those phrases that just doesn’t have much relevance in gaming at all. These days, anything can be salvaged given enough resources and talent. At this point the phrase is little more than a smug, lazy bit of criticism.”
Too little too late came to me when my hype died for the game after learning scalpers bought most of the collector's editions hours after their announcement. I didn't want to belive it at first but after looking it up I was awestruck.
This is why I love your channel my man, since the beginning. We've got the same views/interests and mindset when it comes to these things, and somehow, you encapsulate everything that I'm thinking about in your "Thoughts" videos. This tiring cycle of content already in existence, and not being implemented Day 1, as well as locking content from the base-game behind DLC pay walls, is just so filthy and over-done. Looks like you, me, and everyone else are going to have to wait over a year to actually get the game we paid for. Again. I just hope they learn their lesson from this year's player base back-lash from titles such as EA, and get it together. Because honestly, I don't think I'll be able to do another waiting game scenario for Destiny 3's release in the late future. Though, hoping for the best in this game's growth, and the rest yet to come.
Thanks for the analysis. Most of these are quality of life improvements which are always nice to see. What I find weird however and the thing that no major Destiny youtuber has talked about, is how the game lacks 'content'. And I'm not sure if this lack of content can be remedied at this point, given Bungie's track record. Even if these quality of life improvements are implemented, the question remains: "What do we do with these?" Are we intended to go play Crucible all day long? There are only 5-6 Strike missions which are also repeated in Nightfalls. Same is true for Public Events. What exactly does Bungie wants the player base to 'come back to'? Usually, when the second iteration of a game decides to repeat the tried and true formula, it does it 'bigger' and 'larger' and 'more'. Unfortunately, what is 'more' in D2 is just cutscenes.

So well put Datto. I love Destiny and I feel exactly like you do. I’m pulling for Bungie but it’s really heart breaking to see Destiny 2 in the state it is in right now. The things they left out and changed made me feel like they basically ignored their players that supported them from day one. Honestly, it’s tough being a Destiny 2 player and a Bungie fan right now. It’s going to be really hard to wait.
Would anyone else replay everything in d1 if it was packaged into d2? It should all be one game!

You prefer not ever using the shotgun / sniper / fusion rifle because the rocket launcher is the only viable (in most cases) option in pve / pvp?
Cropod first..clearly you don't PvP because rockets aren't used anymore than any other heavy except sniper. 2.. I use fusion.. 3. Bungie does need to do something to promote sniper/shotty/fusion a little more in pvp. And 4. In pve I could careless what I shoot an npc w.. Just that it dies and I can move on from that encounter
In the raid, people only use the raid rocket. In pvp it literally doesn't matter because you are guaranteed to get team shot by anything. I dunno what platform you play on, but I respect the fusion rifle. Not many like you. I myself often rock the new monarchy sniper, because there's no scope sway. I play on pc.

I kinda think the entire community is really tired of defending the potential destiny has as a game. Like everyone thinks it COULD be incredible.. but everyone is kind of sick of waiting for it to actually happen.

I am pleased that that are putting back some of those quality of life improvements that they added to improve the quality of life in Destiny 1.
But....
I cannot get past the fact that we shouldn’t be getting this in a future update. It should have been here at launch. There’s not getting away from that.
Had the game been shipped in the state where it had quality of life features on par with those added during the lifecycle of Destiny 1, then Bungie wouldn’t be having to put in the time and effort to recreate and instead would be able to utilise their resources to simply CREATE.
Bungie have really put themselves between the proverbial rock and a hard place. No amount of “hey look, we’re bringing this back!” was going to make us all happy and super enthusiastic again.
Dammit Bungie, you spent 3 years learning how to Destiny. Don’t spend the next 3 relearning it.

About the map: I was really pleased to see the introduction if a map in D2, just having one is a big improvement over D1 in this regard.
However, it's a bit of a mystery to me that this map doesn't have fairly common features such as: centering on player, setting custom waypoints, seeing fireteam members.
I don't know how complicated these things are to put in, but it seems like including them should have been pretty self-evident. Practically every other game with a map has these features, and sometimes more.
I play WARFRAME, MODS ARE VERY IMPORTANT.
Nah, Warframe does everything Destiny wishes it could do.
It's going to really be about that balance patch. And how the crucible changes are implemented, whether it's a knee jerk fix or 6v6 for example actually works in the current maps and modes and meta.
It really is a case of too little too late, I paid out for a game and it’s expansions on faith that Bungle had learned their lesson throughout D1. They haven’t and their repeat mistakes means the game is repeating the same shit it’s predecessor went through, only this time Bungle have gotten way more insidious in their behaviour and greed and do not care about us only how much money they can squeeze out.
I completely agree with what you say Datto that these changes will be good, but having to wait another 8 months for the game to implement old D1 features and still will be a poor imitation of that game, D2 should have built upon all the good from D1 not strip it away and sell it back to us in DLC or belated updates.
And all these updates coming just in time for the next round of dlc expansions as well, sorry Bungle you have more than enough time to get it done way before then instead of “hey look at how great the game is now buy the expansions” before anybody gets chance to actually see what difference the changes make.
Enough is enough for me I have loyally stuck by throughout D1 through its highs and many lows and tried to stick with D2 but no more.
I recently switched to Warframe to give it a try and my god it’s head and shoulders above anything D2 could hope to achieve as a replay-able, varied, content rich satisfying loot grinder and I don’t regret it for one second.
On top of that Monster Hunter World is nearly here as well which promises to be another replay-able, varied and satisfying content rich loot grinder.

Datto I appreciate you still covering this game but I think this might be it. Most of the other destiny youtubers have given up on Destiny 2 and you are the main content creator that still does coverage on this game. We will have to wait after Expansion 2: God of Mars to see if Bungie still cares about our community or will just fuck it up and go straight to Destiny 3 and if they do this I would be shocked if you or everybody else defends them for this. Honestly I’ve gotten tired of this game and so have a lot of my friends but I will continue to keep watching your videos because it gives me hope that Bungie will go back to the old Halo days where they cared about their community.

I just want my tier 12 grind and movement system back. those two things are all that's needed to get me to buy both of the expansions. Grinding tier 12 in an item set that looked nice was the most fun thing ever.

I think the biggest thing I saw on there that sets apart from (not all but) so many other games is the additions to the base game and the inclusion of those who don't have any of the expansions in so much of the content.
I am seeing some hope on the horizon. I'll grant you it's dim because so much of it is "Yay! It's getting to the way it should have launched at in the first place!"

Had to pause the video and respond. Datto when you say "I don't know why raid specific perks left" the answer is pretty simple.
Having them in the game massively disincentivises the Eververse armour sets because the raid gear is just straight up better and the raid specific perks can only exist on that armour. Although I'm happy to see they're finally putting player enjoyment before greed and bringing them back.

We waited too long for D1 to be a great game, and Bungie went 100 miles in reverse with the train wreck D2 is. I refuse to play a lazy cash grab literally designed to kill the game. D1 is still my favorite game of all time, but D2 can burn, and I hope it does. Bungie needs to be shown that shit like D2 is not acceptable and will not succeed. Simple enough.

Agreed. And with what is laid out here and on the Bungie post, see ya at the end of 2018 D2 (maybe).
1) Decrease the power ammo drop rate to a minute or even 50 seconds depending on the map
2) Put a debuff called "Reserves or whatever" on the player that ticks every second until the player picks up power ammo or the match ends.
3) Make rocket launchers and very powerful weapons like the colony and telesto (yeah, telesto) require 90 of this buff to be able to load with power ammo.
Now you can have a shotgun/fusion rifle/sniper/grenade launcher more often than a rocket launcher but you still cant have a shotgun and rocket launcher at the same time in your loadout, which bungie seems to want because of competitive possibilities.

Thanks Datto, I share your sentiments. The wait sucks and all these things for the most part are either bringing things back from Destiny or things that should have been implemented early on or shipped with the main game. It definitely sucks that most of what we're getting from Bungie is the stuff that should have been here in the first place and we have to wait for it....I just hope this game doesn't die before the changes happen.
One thing I felt they could have done is allow a majority of these items available as dircet purchases from Amanda Holliday and Eva Levante(provided she is actually not dead).
It would help off set the need for a lot of items in the bright engrams.

Overall, I was actually very happy for once when I saw the massive dev notes on the many changes they are looking to bring but, not too long after though, I started to feel the same way you did.
I'm exhausted on waiting for a game that many like me and others bought to get where it needs to be to justify the original price of admission plus the $20 lackluster DLC.
Especially the amount of waiting we already had done with the original
(and money spent) but, we got through it because me and the rest of the community saw a light at the end of the tunnel. But, now we've jumped yet into another tunnel of darkness but, this time we don't know if we'll see light ever again.
