The two times you were trying to figure out who was singing the lower voice, it is Robin and Barry singing in unison. They blend so well it does sound like a fourth person.
They never performed this one live. It is a studio master class in overlaying complex vocals. They aren’t just harmonizing with each other, but also with themselves.
They’re the kings PERIOD‼️✌🏻 I think I’m a very blessed person to have lived thru the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s cuz there’s no better music on the planet! EVERYTHING from Roy Clark to Black Sabbath is on my playlist and not a day goes by that there’s not music playing either outside or inside my house. Back then it was pure talent!!! I have to say at 62 I’m loving Post Malone, Morgan Wallen and Hardy! And ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼peace and love to u! You’re in for a great surprise when u start digging up all that music!
They are actually harmonizing the high and low parts. Some of the really high parts are Barry & Robin together. Massive vocal ranges all three of them. You would enjoy Ordinary Lives, Wind of Change (1979) and Medley 1989 in Melbourne. ❤

And Barry has said he was inspired by the Stylistics and the Delfonics in their use of falsetto. Let's face it. The Bee Gees are pure R&B.
In case you're not aware, Barry is the oldest brother and then Robin and Maurice are the younger twins. They could all sing falsetto but Maurice had the lowest natural voice. Barry didn't actually know he had such an amazing strong falsetto until they were recording Nights On Broadway in 1974/1975 and the producer wanted one of them to try doing a "scream" toward the end. Barry volunteered and that amazing falsetto was born. These guys have written over 1,000 songs, many hit songs for other artists too, such as Celine Dion, Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton and Barbra Streisand among others. They actually wrote three top #1 hit songs in one day! Those songs were "Too Much Heaven", " Tragedy" and "Shadow Dancing" which was recorded by their much younger brother, Andy Gibb. He had some great hits too, and was slated to become the 4th BeeGee but tragically passed away from myocarditis (a heart infection) just before at the very young age at the age of 30 in 1988. If you check out the live in -concert video of "You should Be Dancing" you can see all four brothers on stage together.
actually, according to Barry, he has the natural lowest voice, Robin, intermediate and Mo the highest. If you watch the original version of To Love Somebody, you will see that Maurice did the original falsetto on it.
You may be correct about that. I may have been misremembering the range discussion from this episode of Wings of Pegasus. He may have been referencing just this performance but I haven't watched it again for awhile.

I'm pretty sure this is the studio version with a later, layered recorded video. These were pre-video days, you remember. But they could *definitely* perform in concert. Wow.
They never did Fanny live, because of the incredibly complicated, multi layered harmonies.

From what I’ve read, they laid down 26 tracks to achieve the sound they got here. It’s got to be one of my favorites of all of their songs!

A lot of the time Robin & Barry sing together. They sound like one person!! Yes they can sing ANYTHING. The famous falsetto came later in the 1970’s

Also…they have a live version of “You Should Be Dancing “ from 1979 Spirits tour. In that one, you’ll see their little brother (Andy Gibb) performing with them. One of the few times you’ll see all 4 Gibb brothers on stage at the same time.
This is definitely my favorite song by the Bee Gees.
All three brothers could hit the falsetto but Barry could take it to another level and hold it. There’s no better group! Sad that Barry lost his brothers too soon. The Bee Gees made incredible music for five generations until Maurice died.

I'd love to see you check out some Bee Gees recordings that feature Robin as lead singer. His voice is a unique vibrato. "I Started a Joke" is Robin's signature song. Also "New York Mining Disaster," "Massachusetts," "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?"

There was some weird feedback in your video , so i hope that gets fixed. 🙉 Nice reaction!❤This song had so many tracks laid down on top of each other that they did not perform this one live. All the brothers have incredible range. Barry's speaking voice is slightly higher than Maurice ( the Bass player ) & Robin ( no beard). Barry is doing the high falsetto ad-libs but also singing in unison with Robin & Maurice at times in the lower range. why is Maurice Gibb strumming his bass? I thought bass players plucked or slapped their strings? Anyone know?
I'm not a bass player, but I believe Maurice isn't strumming, he's plucking one string at a time with the guitar pick rather than his fingers. He preferred to use a pick, like his idol McCartney.
