About the judge getting a bonus: Its not a bonus per conviction, its a kickback from a private prison that makes money dependant on how many people get sent to it.
Its not legal but it is well documented as happening and is why the existence of private institutions is such a horrifying notion.

I live in Cincinnati, you may have seen the video of the juvenile court judge from here having to be dragged out of the courtroom while SHE was facing charges. She was giving kids ridiculous sentences to get kickbacks from wherever she was sending them. And there was something about her helping her brother professionally. Yay corruption I guess

    • @Wynngrem
      @Wynngrem 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yep. I think bonuses was just a poor choice of words to say the judge was profiting from convictions either from owning shares in private prisons that they sent defendants too or direct kickbacks.

In the U.S., this would be grounds for an appeal. But sadly it's gonna take someone with money to go against the judge.

    Hello Facts Man!
I'm not a huge fan of Judge Judy (she tends to find against the poor), but dogs are serious business, so good on her for making sure that pooch got to someone who loved them. All dogs deserve happiness and love. We created them, we shaped them into what they are now, we are obligated to look after them. If we didn't want to be responsible for their happiness, we shouldn't have spent 10,000 years turning wolves into tools.
Second edit: I was excused a speeding ticket in a small town where I lived because I told the judge exactly where I had been pulled over, and she was like, "Yeah, that road has bad signage. Also, I like your British accent. You're free to go, I'm dismissing this ticket."

Hi Mainly Facts Guy. I just wanted to come here and say thank you. I was dealing with some bad friends that told me my emotions did not matter and treated me like dirt. Your advice and the stories you shared made me realize that I deserve better. It has been day 1 with cutting them out of my lives and I already feel better. This story is probably gonna get buried. (And if you do want to share it on ur channel if you find this I would be over the moon)
    Backstory:
These guys are from my school and I play video games everyday with them. I thought they were good people so I hing out with them (plus my best friend was with them) whenever I would try to hop on and play with them, I would be ignored and it would hurt a lot. I finally had the guts to stand up to them and I told them that I feel like these jokes are quite cruel and I did not enjoy them. I also told them that they treat me like I am not human, and as if I was just entertainment for them. In response, they told me my emotions don’t matter and they removed me from their group. Though this would happen a lot, I decided I wouldn’t come back. I have decided to start from scratch when it comes to friends. Luckily, I still have my best friend who supports my decisions and who is the nicest person in the world.
Once again, I would like to thank you Mainly Facts Guy, and I owe everything to you.

I rightfully had a DUI several years ago, I have definitely changed ever so much since then! I had three separate trials, and the last one the judge overlooked my request for counsel. She sentence made to a month in jail- for a freaking DUI that cause no accident, no damage nothing else other than I was driving under the influence to escape domestic violence, a whole Nother situation- I then called the ACLU along with a free consult with a private attorney, at which point, I decided to take her to the state supreme court.
At that hearing the judge gave me the option to either go back to the former judge, or an entirely different judge, who would probably just dismiss the charges. Being the stubborn person I am, I chose to go back to her, just to kind of rub it in her face. Ended up being sentenced for 10 days, the guards were extremely confused as to why I was even there.
Since the state I live in, didn’t have a recorded sessions for misdemeanors, but there is been numerous complaints mine tipped the scale, so we finally got recorded sessions for any and all misdemeanors! She also was not reelected the next time elections rolled around for gross incompetence! Yeah, I did some jail time and rightfully so, but the judge kind of messed up her whole life by what she did.

I found old news stories bout my dad's petty teenage crime. I shared them on FB and my uncle sent me a message asking me to take them down. I told him it was a little late for him to worry about my dad's dignity or reputation after he was the one who brought my dad's post-suicide autopsy report to the first big family gathering after dad died. And let that be the only information about him in the information folder, while his siblings had their diplomas and wedding photos and such.

Story 2: I am pretty sure that the judge doesn't get a bonus directly from the govt for convictions. However, one thing that DOES happen is that a private prison will give a judge kick backs for sending prisoners their way. There was one judge that got busted for basically selling young people to a private prison for $3,000 a pop. It was super messed up. Judge got removed and I think the prison got slapped with a fine or something. So... no ACTUAL consequences.

You're describing the Cash for Kids scandal. Two judges were involved in a kickback scandal to remand juvenile offenders to a private facility they had a investment interest and bribery deal with.
One was sentenced to 28 years and is scheduled for release until 2034, when he's 84.
The other was sentenced to 17.5 years, and is due for release in 2026. Though he was released on furlough to home detention during Covid. Not sure if he was remanded or allowed to stay out.
They also lost multiple civil suits to the tune of 8 figures.

With the "follow your gut" stories, I had one a few weeks ago. A new person who my s/o introduced me to as their friend just gave me a really bad vibe. She would flirt with anyone who gave her attention, gender didn't matter. One day, she was talking with my s/o and their friends and, while drinking, told my s/o "You can't have me, you're dating SapphireExile!", to which my s/o made me jump for joy by saying "And happy about it". I basically did everything to avoid her and she got the hint. Weeks later [now], it came out that she tried hitting on my s/o. You can bet I was saying "I KNEW IT" as loud as I could. S/o and I still laugh about how pathetic her flirting attempts were.
And then there's a funny "How are you still alive?" story. My dad loves this, but when he and my mom were visiting her brother, she and my aunt were inside of the house doing something, while dad was in the pool and uncle was at the grill. The second that the uncle grabbed the propane, dad tells it like "That's when I thought I should go to the end of the pool farthest away from the uncle". It's while he's swimming that dad hears a WOOSH noise, and turns around to see my uncle running inside without eyebrows.

    How are you even alive
At 17 around Christmas my family were having Chinese food and i took a bite of a fortune cookie. A piece of it cut open an artery at my canine and as I was rushed to the hospital, I was losing blood with every heartbeat. 5minutes later, I was at the hospital pretending to be a zombie (freaking my mom out even more), I was making the sounds too. Another 5 minutes and I was surrounded by nurses ans ER doctors putting flashlights in my mouth, taking my blood pressure and blood samples. They found the bleeder and electrocuted it shut. Once all was done I went into shock and my blood count came back. In 10 minutes I lost half of my blood. Since I never passed out, I didn't get blood transfusion and was sent home in my father's arms as I couldn't walk.
The fortune of the cookie? You will go on a nice trip soon.
Took close to a decade to stop being anemic.

A lawyer is an officer of the court and it is incumbent to never mislead the court. If the value was stated to the court by his client and he knows the true value it is incumbent on the lawyer to correct the amount. Failure to do so is grounds for disbarment. The fact that he thought it was smart to withhold this information just shows how broken the US legal system is...

So... Might be late to the party, but as a long time lurker, it's time I share my family secret stories.
    1. My grandfather was a stock car driver in New York City in the '60s. He had an eclectic mix of cars that he raced on a dirt track. That's now the Staten Island dump. He had several friends that he retained good relationships with throughout most of the rest of his life. He went on to do military service, owned his own gas station, even did his own long distance hauling. Well most of my family did not know was that the majority of his money from racing came from the Italian mob and John Gotti.
    2. In conjunction with my first story about my grandfather, my youngest aunt married in Italian Guido. The strong silent time for most of his life, i didn't know him very well until he became a much older man and a grandfather. Turns out none of his kids actually know how he and his wife got together. The rumor mill is that because of the former connections to the mob he was introduced to my aunt and they hit it off. One of my cousins was told that they were co-workers at a local grocery chain. The other says he was a client of the grocery store and they met in passing at said store. Me personally? I like to think it had something to do with the racing.
    3. Though not quite as dramatic, my grandmother was alive for world war II and the Korean war. She actually worked for a communications office that helped with sending and decoding messages for the military. Her number one in office competitor for completing tasks and messages? The now former mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg. Years later when they met for a 9/11 memorial, they introduced and greeted one another by first name.
I know, not nearly as dramatic, but still a cool story that has only come out in her later years.
One last fun fact about my grandfather: when he passed away, many of his tools and possessions from his racing days were unfortunately sold off at incredibly cheap prices, by my grandmother had the foresight to keep his toolbox. His Lone toolbox that would end up being trackside so he could fix his car. Turns out even after 50 years it still has the original receipt on the inside. Those who care, It's an original snap-on with his name painted on the front. He paid around $350 for it in 1965 and is now my primary toolbox, still working fine over half a century later.

That 2nd story about thebjudge getting paid by conviction is a total fantasy by someone who knows nothing about the court system.
A)unless it's a bench trial, judges don't convict people. They either plead guilty, have a bench trial, or go before a jury.
B)Judges also don't (legally ^1) get paid per conviction. A judge isn't there to convict anyone. That's the prosecutor's job. Judges are like a referee to a football game with the prosecutor and defense being the teams involved.
    C) there is no way you can have a 100% conviction rate. Whether it's a null prosecution or outright dismissal for other reasons, not every case even GOES to conviction, and that doesn't take into account acquittal by juries
D)even IF they proceeded without an attorney (which means they outright violated his rights), that case would be reversed SO hard on appeal. That's why the "they wouldn't let him complain about not having an attorney" doesn't make sense.
And that's just the stuff I can remember. I'm sure there's more that is just complete bullcrap
^1 Now, to be fair, there WAS a judge who was getting kickbacks for sending kids to jail but it was a secret scheme between he and another man that went for years and now they're in prison....

Im guessing the judge didn't get bonuses for convictions as if the state or federal gov't gave bonuses for that it would be acting against its own ethic laws.
I think if there was truth to the rumor its more likely the judge in question (or their family members) owned stock in privatized prison firms that defendants were sentenced too or got kickbacks from a privatized firm directly for sentencing defendants to it. Both have been known to happen with the former being more common than the latter scenario. I think bonuses was just a poor choice of words to say it was found out the judge was profiting from their convictions.

47:05 Whoa, that is fucked beyond all belief. I live in Washington and there are some museum exhibits that portray stuff similar to that. Not to that extent but its still an unpleasant aspect of history. Then again, there were probably things like that across the world and for much longer. At least now people are trying to recover by doing what they should have done and preserve and restore what was lost and give compassion to people who were wronged. The only way to get rid of such hatred is by fighting with love and be better than the people who proceeded us.

If a judge has a 100% conviction rate.... Said judge should be sentenced to a combined sentence of all the convictions said judge has made...
No judge ever has only had cases where the defendant has committed a crime... (This is ofc assuming that said judge has had a few cases... first time being a first time... and a few times being a few.... but in the long run? ...)

Fun family facts. My grandma let me know that our family has ties to organized crime and politicians from where she's from. Sounded like something from the godfather. We also have "cousins" that when I put it all together are basically indentured servants. My grandfather and his brother were gorilla fighters before my grandfather joined the US navy. Said great-uncle always carried a machete and never talked about it but the family speculative stories are probably close to the truth and none of them are pretty. A great aunt was part of a murder suicide, the cops dont know who did which role but the consensus in the family is that we know but don't talk about it. Theres more but listening it all makes me worried about my mental health.

When all stalls are taken you go in and use the small urinal I am with the choice of either looking like an idiot who has to stand their tip toes just so my pecker doesn't touch rim or hold and wait. The latter is I look like an idiot cause of the Army, there were many times while waiting in a hanger full strapped in gear to jump out of a plane and had to hold cause there is no derigging just to take a leak. At times the wait would be 4 hours at the least. Now that was back when manifest times have changed. So to all the vet bro who are gonna gatekeep, get bent.
