There are a few tips for constructing aviaries: Give yourself enough time. Use ready made boat blueprints. (I learned about these and more from Aviary Magic Method site )
How do you protect blue bird eggs from snakes and raccoons ? My couple worked so hard to build their nest and were so attentive to their eggs and then one night they vanished and the couple were broken hearted and so was I 😞
Lucy Vitti nestwatch.org has info on this. If you’re using poles then you can put metal collars or stove pipes on the poles below the bird house to stop snakes and other climbers. They have good info on the site under ‘how to build a bird house’.
We have two houses on six foot metal poles. We put a large plastic pot saucer up side down on the top of the pole and attach the house on top. We then cut carpet tacking strips to fit the pole, usually four will do and attach them to the poles with zip ties. It takes two people to do this. Wear gloves. The tacks face outward. Keeps snakes and chimpmunks off.
This is actually a bad idea. Bluebirds tend to abandon boxes with the Bird Guardian, sometimes even if they already laid eggs. By one Amazon review the tube trapped a bluebird dad who died there, clogging the tube so all 5 chicks died too. Maybe true other songbirds, I dunno. The right hole size and box depth excludes large predators anyway, so this Bird Guardian is usually a solution looking for a problem. Also, this whole ad is kinda 90s and cheaply made.
I have a problem with snakes in my boxes .will the stove pipe stop this.?
Informative video. Thanks.

In addition to what Tonya has suggested, you can also put a 0.5 inch mesh hardware cloth rectangular box around the opening (aka Noel guard).

Wonderful idea
Can you install this after Birds alreadynext in it? A cat tried to get the bird today
Great idea 👍
apparently this will not Discourage the House Wrens. They will destroy the Bluebird eggs and the babies.
Where can I find the natural one?
Amazon
Amazon, it's called Audubon Entities BG900 Natural Screw on Bird Guardian
$19 + shipping!
Can't buy these anymore. It seem like a good idea if it works.
