Food Lion had a 5 lb bag of russet potatoes last week for $1.99 and they were GIANT!! I actually weighed my bag and it was 10 lbs!! Always weigh the bags! Sometimes they’re more and sometimes they’re less than what it’s supposed to be!! I got that tip from Frugal Fit Mom!! I love your videos!!! I’ve gotten so many great recipes from you❤❤
thanks for highlighting what can go in the freezer for later. making your own conveniences can go a long, long way on a budget. you mentioned freezing your onion for later, that's actually how ALL the onions in my house get eaten, I buy a sack of onions and run all of them through the food processor. freeze in a single layer on a sheet pan, then transfer to a big ziplock bag and you're good to go. you can buy already frozen onions, and frozen "seasoning blend" that has celery and other stuff added, but it's so much cheaper to DIY it! plain mashed potatoes freeze great too, if it were me and I had to use up a whole 10lb sack of potatoes for my small family, I would bake some [which makes an easy lunch or dinner for later] and mash and freeze the rest for a future convenience food.
@@nolaa.1815 yes!! I just love that!! I need to have more frozen diced onions on hand and mashed potatoes too. I use them so often, it’s just better to stock up in the freezer. And so much easier for later too!
I keep the juice from bread and butter pickles to use in egg salad or deviled eggs. Like the suggestion to put the cooked apples ove yogurt. I was thinking of using some milk in the bowl. Loved all those potato recipes.
For my brown sugar, it comes in a plastic bag. I started leaving it in the bag and then putting the bag in a plastic lock-n-lock style container. I understand wanted to keep things in glass, but sometimes plastic keeps the moisture in better. A heel of bread also works and I used to have this thing called a brown sugar bear that I kept in the it. It looked like it was made of terracotta, but not sure if that’s correct. No idea where it is now lol After 3 moves, it disappeared.
@@cindyc8860 no. It dries out like a big slice of crouton. Fear of yuckies is why I prefer the slice of bread instead of a piece of apple peel. I've never tried apple so for all I know it turns into something like a piece of dehydrated peel.
My friend takes leftovers from thanksgiving and makes croquettes from it. She’ll have potatoes, green bean casserole, dressing, turkey, a little gravy and idk what all in there but they turn out great every time. It’s amazing.
Mashed potatoes freeze beautifully in souper cubes. I just pulled some out last night and it was so easy, just threw the mashed potato blocks straight in the pot (& no leftover waste from being trapped in a bag! 😊
We generally don't have leftover mashup potato because my family doesn't like it. Two weeks ago I had some leftover so I made potato bread. That disappeared fast. We can't buy potato bread here in my part of rural Australia, do it's definitely a treat when I make some

I grew up having potato patties kinda like salmon patties. My mom would use leftover mashed potatoes add an egg for the binder. Currently I can’t remember what else went into them. She’d coat them in flour and then fried them.
Baked potatoes ...yum. If you wrap them in tinfoil and put them in the crockpot all day....easy and soft. Put about 2 inches on the bottom of the crockpot.

egg salad much better if made the same day you boiled eggs- the flavours absorb better when combined with warm eggs - grated onion and dried mustard with home cooked salad dressing (can’t eat mayo) with fresh chives or green onion tops (though my container garden winding down for 2024 so no greens until spring) - make my devilled eggs and potato salad same - find these all much more flavourful when combined as cooked 🇨🇦🙏
