I LOVE that you make everything from scratch. I am always looking for yummy meals and I usually make everything from scratch myself, so seeing someone else doing it as well is so awesome ! Thank you for your awesome videos, I can’t wait to try some of these recipes!
You and I have a lot of same ideas…only thing since I have LA roots…I cook my beans( red beans) with onion, garlic, Cajun seasoning and smoked sausage. Then serve them over rice with hot peppers on the side. Also, I make a broccoli cheese soup out of my broccoli, then I use any leftover soup to put on baked potatoes…top with some canned fried onions( not only for green bean casserole! Lol), served as a meal. We also have oven fries served with any brown gravy over them as a meal that I save from a pot roast or pork roast…that has bits of the meat that fell apart.
Oh wow!! Thank you so much for all your awesome recipe ideas! I can’t wait to try them! I’ve never thought to put broccoli cheddar on a potato before or brown gravy on fries. Yum!!
Great video! I love that you purchased the sugar, flour and butter! So many “budget” videos call those things a pantry staple. I suggest that if you are on a budget you buy whole milk. You can add some water to it to extend it. 👏
Love that everything is from scratch! I always try to reverse meal plan / use what I have in the pantry first and then purchase only what I need for recipes which definitely has been helping cut costs. I also try to shop at Aldi when I can but all are located about 1/2 hour way so it’s not always super convenient - but definitely is cheaper there. For sure interested in trying these meal plans and seeing how much it costs with reverse meal planning and shopping at Aldi. Great ideas!
Thank you so much!! I absolutely LOVE that! That’s exactly what I do each week (when I’m not filming a full meal plan 😅). I love to use what I have on hand and make substitutions anywhere I can, in order to avoid buying unnecessarily. I hope you love the recipes!
I do some oatmeal in chicken stock with shredded chicken, Italian seasoning and topped with Parmesan cheese for quick lunches whenever there's shredded chicken around.
To get a little more budget out of your dairy you can always buy full fat/whole milk and just add your own water to it if you want it. That way your not paying for the water and it can stretch a bit more. Also full fat can help feel full longer and bulk up what your eating so that helps too, even without adding any water. 😊
This Aldi just opened back in December so I’m not sure if they’re trying to keep their prices super low to compete with the neighboring stores but I’m loving it! 😊

Great content for families looking for budget meals. Lots of inspiration here. Can't wait to make the seasoned/chili beans. I buy a lot of those and this should save me a lot of money. I think I'm going to try in the instant pot today. Have you tried a mix of different beans.? I was thinking pinto, black and northern.
I haven’t tried it but I think it would work great! I’ve cooked all three separately and they all have the same cooking time from my experience. I would love to know how it goes! I hope you love the recipe for the chili beans too! 😊
@@LauraLegge It worked perfect for black and pinto beans; I had ran out of Northern beans. I put about the equivalent of one bag of beans (NOT soaked) in the instant pot with six cups of water. I added all of the seasonings you mentioned and some Better than Bouillon. At first I cooked it for 25 minutes with a natural release. They weren't quite done. So I added 10 more minutes and did a quick release. I unplugged my instant pot and left the house to do errands. I came back to find they were just right. I thought I would have to reduce the liquid.
Hi Laura! So glad I ran into your video-- it's fantastic. I thought it would be like the average ones online where the meals would lack flavor, but the recipes are those you'd want to make. But my surprise was watching you create nacho chips and homemade syrup! It made me desire pancakes for dinner tonight!! Thank you so much for your post. And.. you have great hair. Have a wonderful day!😮
Thank you so much for all your kind words! I’m so glad you enjoyed my video 😊 That syrup is SO good! I’ve never gone through syrup so fast in my life 😂 I hope you enjoy all the recipes as much as we did and thank you so much for watching!
Really good video, Laura. I can’t get into canned vegetables. Too much sodium. But I can see how it is easier. The chicken or beef bouillon cubes are a lot cheaper than boxed broth & pretty easy to use.
That’s a great tip! I’ll have to pick up some bouillon cubes next time I head to the store. I also don’t usually use canned food due to the sodium but occasionally I’ll use them for the added flavor 😋
Love your Spirit, and truly frugal cooking style, it would be helpful to know what store you shopped at. Confused by the use of Greek yogurt in place of sour cream both as ingredient and cost but I suppose it works.
Thank you so much! I shopped at Aldi for the groceries in this video. I used Greek yogurt instead of sour cream because it’s a little bit more versatile, specifically for the breakfasts I had in mind, and ends up being the same price as the sour cream at my store 😄
I like that you use bananas a lot for your breakfasts. I love bananas. I have to limit how many I eat because of digestive issues, but man are they a treat! Also, you have a very nice ring set (off-topic, I know, but just wanted to compliment you on that). Your husband obviously values you very much. I turn 35 today and still have no husband because having Asperger's (which can be both a gift and a burden at the same time) and also mental health issues, it can make dating complicated for me. But I'm still praying God brings me a good man soon (before my fertility dies) who values me despite my differences.
Thanks so much for the ideas. Does the syrup have any type of shelf life? Can it be refrigerated or kept in the pantry or does it need to be used immediately? Thanks!
I recommend refrigerating it due to the unsalted butter and I would say it could last up to a month. It’ll separate in the refrigerator so just be sure to stir it before serving 😄
It was delicious! I’ve bought it a couple times before and it was delicious each time. So far, I’ve used it for lasagna, breakfast casserole, sausage with pasta, and breakfast burritos and it was great each time 😄
So great love all the ideas!! Can't wait to try the bagels. BUT DID I MISS SOMETHING... you keep saying left over broccoli but I went back through the video to try and see where you orginally used it? I can't seem to find it. A bit confused?😂
Haha no worries! I only had a couple pieces of leftover broccoli from what my kids didn’t eat and from when my husband didn’t end up eating one of the meals I already prepared 😅 so there shouldn’t be any leftover broccoli if it gets eaten with the first meal it’s prepared with but if you have any leftover, you can definitely use it! 😊
Those bagels look so easy and my family goes through like 3 packages of bagels a week, I'm definitely going to try this, if they like them it will save me so much $, do you ever freeze them? do they come out well?
Hello, I loved your video. It was wonderful. I just had a quick question, in the beginning of the video you have a book that you use, looks like you were putting your grocery list on there and maybe your meals for that day I was just curious where you got that? Thank you 😊

I use a few different pans. I usually use my Awesome Pan from Aldi. It’s rare to find them in their value aisle but I believe mine was around $25! I also use my Lodge 6qt Dutch Oven and I occasionally use a T-Fal skillet I got from Costco ages ago (that’s what I used for the tortillas). I also have a Lodge Cast Iron skillet that I used for the refried beans 😄 I have more but those are the main pans/pots I use right now haha. I have some links in my description of my favorites, if you need them!
Where did you shop at? Those were really great prices. Was this Aldi? Loved this video. I am now a new subscribe. Thank you for the great ideas on how to stretch the budget.
Yes! I shopped at Aldi! Their prices are much better than other stores around us. Thank you so much for subscribing and commenting 😊 I hope you love the recipes!
Love your ideas. Just curious, is there a reason you often choose a package from further back on the shelf when you are shopping, or is that just a coincidence?
I worked in food for a really long time and in my experience, the ones in the front were more likely to drop on the floor, be touched a ton, and not be as cold (if refrigerated), which meant it wouldn’t last as long once I got it home. It’s mainly a habit now 😅
Let us know the amount of flour how muck baking soda etc please love your videos thanks make muffins bagels biscuits just neef a good bread 🍞 recipe. Please give me your bread recipe thanks ❤😊
Here’s the recipe for you! I make it all the time and it’s my favorite ☺️ I also have it in the blog post 2-Hour No Knead Bread Ingredients * 3 1/4 cups (425 grams) all-purpose flour * 2 tsp Fine Sea Salt * 1 tsp Honey or Sugar * 1 packet Instant Fast Acting Dry Yeast * 1 1/2 cups Warm Water (105°-110°F) Instructions 1. In a large bowl, mix together flour, salt, honey or sugar, and yeast. Add warm water (use thermometer to make sure water is between 105-110° F before adding) and mix together with a wooden spoon or spatula. 2. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest at room temperature for 1 hour. 3. Remove plastic wrap and turn out dough onto a well flouted surface. Fold the edges over until the dough feels a little tighter and holds its shape. 4. Lightly flour the top of the dough and then transfer to parchment paper, smooth side up. Cover loosely with plastic wrap as the oven preheats. 5. Place a Dutch oven with the lid into the oven and preheat the oven to 425° F. (Make sure your Dutch oven and lid are safe for the oven before doing this) 6. Once the oven has preheated, CAREFULLY remove the Dutch oven (it will be extremely hot!!) and place the dough, along with the parchment paper, inside the Dutch oven. Cover with the lid and bake in the oven for 30 minutes. 7. Then carefully remove the lid and bake, uncovered, for 10-15 minutes, or until the bread reaches your desired level of doneness (as light or dark as you like). 8. Remove from the oven and carefully lift out of the Dutch oven and place on a cooling rack for at least 20-30 minutes before serving. (This step is extremely important to allow the bread to finish cooking, otherwise the bread will be doughy still in the middle.)

So some people claim that the word NACHO is actually the chemical formula used to make Nacho cheese sauce, sodium carbon hydrogen oxygen, otherwise known as sodium citrate. Whether or not it is the true origin of the word, sodium citrate is a convenient and easy way to make a cheese sauce. Sodium citrate is an emulsifier, or thickener. It can be easily made at home with some lemon juice and baking soda. So if other ingredients are running low or someone is avoiding gluten, or you just want a “fake” cheese sauce like you can get on the street, sodium citrate is a great alternative. In all fairness, I am not sure what chemical ordering system would result in these elements spelling NACHO, but it sure is a memorable coincidence, and a great kitchen shortcut.

So I added 10 more minutes and did a quick release. I unplugged my instant pot and left the house to do errands. I came back to find they were just right. I thought I would have to reduce the liquid.
@@Cathy16011 wonderful!! Thank you for updating me! I can’t wait to try making them in the instant pot soon. That’ll save me a lot of time!
It all looks very good!
Thank you! 😊
It was great thanks ❤😊
You’re welcome ☺️
This one was amazing!! Loved it great meal ideas. Loved the scratch recipes.
Thank you so much!! 😊
@@LauraLegge you are so welcome 😁 I love watching your channel
@@sheliapeters2082 thank you! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it!
I loved everything!
Yay! I’m so glad to hear that ☺️
You are amazing! I was thinking how is going to do this! Loved watching you do all those yummy meals! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it and I hope you love the recipes 😊
Use frozen vegetables instead of canned.
@@sharonfarnsworth3325 I definitely prefer frozen or fresh 😄
But I'm still praying God brings me a good man soon (before my fertility dies) who values me despite my differences.
this was amazing!
Thank you so much! 😊
Awesome meal planning- wow!!! 🥰
Thank you so much 😊
Great ideas and shopping❤
Thank you so much! 😄
How’s the taste of the breakfast sausage that you bought in today’s video?
That was an amazing meal plan! I’m surprised I haven’t seen your videos before. But I will subscribe now!
Thank you so much! I’m relatively new here 😊 thank you for watching and subscribing!
Those bagels look so easy and my family goes through like 3 packages of bagels a week, I'm definitely going to try this, if they like them it will save me so much $, do you ever freeze them? do they come out well?
Yes! I sliced them and froze them and they were great straight from the freezer to the toaster! I hope you love them!
Hello, I loved your video. It was wonderful. I just had a quick question, in the beginning of the video you have a book that you use, looks like you were putting your grocery list on there and maybe your meals for that day I was just curious where you got that? Thank you 😊
Thank you so much! I made that meal planner/organizer and you can get it on Amazon for less than $10 😄 here’s the link for you and thank you so much for watching!

Baking soda will help your pancakes brown more nicely.
Thank you so much! I’ll try that 😊
I love your nonstick surface stovetop pans. Could you say what the brand is? Thanks for a great video!
Great job!
Thank you!

Thank you so much! 😊
I’m envious that your Aldi sells loose onions. Mine only has sacks of them so I have to get single onions elsewhere.
Aww darn 😰 I hope yours sell them individually soon!
Do you have a shopping list, you will share?? 😊
Yes! It’s on my blog ☺️ The link is in the description for you
Love your ideas.
It’s mainly a habit now 😅
@@LauraLegge Good points🤔 I might be shopping differently from now on...
Looks great nachod just spread the beans a little more
Beans cook in instant pot in 40 minutes
I’ll have to try that! ☺️

It’s just all-purpose flour 😄
Let us know the amount of flour how muck baking soda etc please love your videos thanks make muffins bagels biscuits just neef a good bread 🍞 recipe. Please give me your bread recipe thanks ❤😊
Here’s the recipe for you! I make it all the time and it’s my favorite ☺️ I also have it in the blog post
2-Hour No Knead Bread
Ingredients
* 3 1/4 cups (425 grams) all-purpose flour
* 2 tsp Fine Sea Salt
* 1 tsp Honey or Sugar
* 1 packet Instant Fast Acting Dry Yeast
* 1 1/2 cups Warm Water (105°-110°F)
Instructions
(Make sure your Dutch oven and lid are safe for the oven before doing this)
This is a really good video for a family but I'm a single person and I don't want to eat that many meals of the same thing. I haven't seen many videos for one person. Any ideas ?
The beans freeze really well in small portions! I’ll see what I can come up with for a video idea for meals for one person 😄
@@LauraLeggeThis video came up as a recommendation and I love it. I just became a subscriber and would love to see meals for single people too. Thank you for these ideas.

This is Aldi! It’s been wonderful with their prices 😊
Where store are you shopping and what state? Is this for one person?
This is for 4 people and I’m shopping at Aldi in Southern California 😃
You are so pretty! My 1st thought

I am surprised by how cheap the prices are. In Australia, our food is so much higher prices
I’ve heard that! I hope your prices come down a bit! Ours are generally much higher but this store has some really incredible prices. I’m crossing my fingers that they keep the prices low!
i don't know where you shop but where I am those prices are half of what we pay
Oh wow! I’ve been shopping at Aldi and our Walmart has similar prices. I’m in Southern California
What store are you shopping? Much cheaper prices than in my area in Texas.
I usually shop at my local Aldi here in California. Our Walmart has similar prices too 😄

I live in an isolated community, all that food would cost me over 500$CAD 😮 .
Oh wow! I had no idea! Thank you so much for sharing that!
I just can't eat cold oatmeal.
