    This is the most obvious sales pitch!! I'm surprised the blanket didn't morph into a baby.

    Fire blankets are only meant for putting out *small* kitchen or wastebasket fires. They're not "fireproof" (nothing really is) and can burn, but the material they're made of will not burn on it's own, and will stop burning once the source of the fire dies down.

      I remember back in the 1980's my older brother tried to burn a pile of denim blue jeans they would not burn no matter no matter how much gas he put on them. I don't know about jeans today but whatever those jeans was made out of it would probably make a good fire blanket. They wouldn't burn at all even with a bunch of leaves & sticks in them. Don't know how they fair in a grease fire or oil fire.

    I've worked at a mcdonalds for 11 years and thankfully I've never had to use the ansul... But ive kind of been curious about how it worked. I was told the entire store would fill up with foam...

      Also another manager told me about a time when he needed to pull the ansul and it didn't work

    Things wrong with the second part: Fire blanket not applied correctly; the fire extinguisher was only used after the blanket fell off when the two should have been used in conjunction with each other, the fire extinguisher was used intermittently when it should have been completely discharged continually on the fire, and lastly dry chemical is rated to be used on class B fires which involve flammable liquids, but dry chemical is not rated for use on class K fires (in England I believe they're known as class "F") which are kitchen fires such as this simulation. Here in America, there must be a class K extinguisher placed below the manual trigger for the suppression system. A class K extinguisher contains the same wet chemical agent that the suppression system uses.

      Yes but if you read the label it directly says "only to be used once the suppression system has been actuated". You aren't supposed to just use the extinguisher if you have the system. It is only a backup. They are just trying to show that a dry chem shouldn't be used to put out a K fire.

    This was clearly from the 1980s. Yes it was biased toward marketing Ansul's product and they don't seem to be trying very hard to put the fire out with the alternate methods, but things like class K didn't exist back then, and AFFF wasn't as common either.

      But the video does make a valid point. I prefer automatic systems for a situation like this, because if workers are untrained or disorganized, or have no experience or drills, who knows what they will do? They may just flee and evacuate and leave the fire burning wild. Automatic systems respond quickly, predictably, and hopefully effectively, even if nobody notices the fire in time.
      Fire fighters might know what they are doing, but it may take them 10 minutes to even arrive.

    was the fighter aiming at the base of the fire?

  • @Zoidberg227
    @Zoidberg227 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @MrChrisl182 The time it takes for the firefighters to extinguish the fire is not indicative of actual procedure. This effectively demonstrates that dry chem extinguishers don't work well with grease fires of this nature. It may quickly stop flaming, as in the video, but it does not cover the grease, excluding oxygen, and allows for rapid re-ignition. You need to either completely cover the grease, or remove sufficient heat to lower the it below its autoignition temperature, as was done here.

    I love the idea, no human had to be involved... It was a sure stopper of fire! What are the chemicals... How does if affect humans and environment.. It wasn't fought the same as first fire. The second fire was not continuously applied... Cheaters? right in my face🤔 questions..

  • @dennisnichols2819
    @dennisnichols2819 ปีที่แล้ว

    you dont use a gas extinguisher for a grease fire, you use a dry power Purple K extinguisher to create that non reigniting layer

  • @bluecylinder

    I think this is clever misleading, since the fire blanket is sitting on the fryer, (above the oil) leaving an air gap, so the powder can never come into direct contact with the oil. What would have happened if the blanket was not used?
    Also what about using a normal (AFFF) foam extinguisher again with no fire blanket?
    As for the fire blanket being on fire, I don't think it was. The oil soaked through it and it was the oil that was on fire. (I had it happen once)

    • @contactacb
      @contactacb 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The blanket falls off before the powder is applied. The temperature of the burning oil is up to 4 or more times that of a normal class B fire and destroys the thin film of the AFFF from a non aspirated nozzle such it cannot form a stable blanket & smother the flames

    whats the reason for delay of 2mins

    • @Dave-ji1hv
      @Dave-ji1hv 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because someone might not immediately notice the fire and in order to test it they want to make sure it is at peak temperature to prove it can not only put out the fire but keep it out.

    i think we need to have more intense training for firefighters. if thats their job and it takes him that long to put out a fire. why do i pay my taxes......
