An update on what I found in the Classic 350 when I started to remove the performance mods. What I discovered is unbelievable! Many thanks to "Terry" for lending me the cam setting tools.
Good that you were able to find the issue. Hitchcocks dyno was only with the decat pipe and open air filter cover. People sometimes make the mistake of thinking that all the mods available must make it even better. Sometimes combining the wrong ones can make it worse.
Great result Volcanic, I fully agree with you regarding the noise levels from the Hitchcocks exhaust. I had the same one on my bike and hated it. My bike now runs with the following: Kent performance camshaft Standard exhaust with decat pipe Standard air filter with Hitchcocks open air filter cover FuelX light 16 tooth gearbox sprocket (Full 30 minute / 30 second ECU reset) My bike runs very well indeed and is quiet. Easily hitting 73mph in 4th gear. It was me that made the camshaft fitting video on TH-cam which has now had over 70,000 views (Tiger Ness) If I was you I would change the exhaust and then run with the bike for a while before reverting it fully back to standard. P.S. I enjoy watching your videos 👍
@tigerness5555 Hello Mr TN! I had the 16T gearbox sprocket when the bike was standard but went back to the 15T as the bike couldn't hold 60 in a headwind. It maybe could pull the extra tooth now. The exhaust is a good bit quieter now I have the cam timing set, I may stick with it. We will see how I get on with it. I watch all of your vids too! Great stuff although I am not a great one to comment! Ride safe and keep your great video's coming!
Hi Volcanic Like you I fitted the 16 tooth sprocket onto my bike before fitting the camshaft. I found the same issue, the bike just wouldn’t pull as well. It was over geared so it was removed and standard sprocket re fitted. Recently I thought I would give it another go due to the better performance from the camshaft. I now really like it, riding at my normal 60 mpg is more relaxed but it still pulls strongly through the gears. Give it another try, you might also like it with the camshaft upgrade. Great to hear that you enjoy following my channel 👍
I was happy to see this video this morning. I have been looking to put this cam in my hunter, and was a little thrown by the result of yours. So I really appreciate the follow up and opinions. Looking forward to seeing your next decisions on it. Thanks for putting this into the world for us to experience with you.
I have to say over 3,000 miles on my 2 year old Classic and very very happy with her as standard. I wonder if all the modding is changing the character of what for me is a perfect bike. 😊
Glad you got it sorted, can't beat doing things yourself, 👍. All I've done to mine mod wise is a Hitchcocks air intake cover and a straight through piece of stainless pipe for a decat pipe, and retaining the standard silencer, and it sounds just right, and the bike feels easier on picking up speed . Very happy with my basic mods , Cheers Mel 🍻
Given what others have reported with the Kent Cam Mod I suspected the old cam had been put back but It never crossed my mind that a "dealer" had mucked it up. If all is well with the valves and nothing clashed or touched the piston then I'd say he was lucky lucky lucky. I hope it works well for you from now on. I have noticed that cat likes to be the centre of your attention. Whenever she hears you talking ( to the camera) and there's nobody else around, she must think you're talking to her. A natural born 'photobomber'.
Thanks for posting! I was very curious to find out why this one was so flat but the blued exhaust was a good warning sign, given that it had hardly done any miles since being "tuned".
🎉 Congratulations 🎉 you got that all sorted. FIRST THING I DO IS REDO OTHERS WORK. Thats where i start now to fix problems. 🤠 saves me a lot if time, just my experience. 😊
G’day VB, there you go, very simple fix due to your mechanical knowledge, ultimately dealer mechanic not up to scratch.. I’m sure the 350 will be put right.. as I’ve said before a nice looking RE.. Cheers mate
It will be interesting to see what you conclusions will be,and at least you've got your other standard bike,if you want to get to places quicker, you always have the choice of both 650&750 Interceptors!
Hi VB, I knew something was afoot with the bike when you described things in the last vlog, my 350 has exactly the same mods as Stevens - now your bike again and goes really well, i could agree on some comments that the cam makes for pulling in 5th into winds/uphill feel a bit flat, i am starting to wonder if refitting the 16t gbox sprocket could be ideal now and ride the bike as a 4 speed for country roads and use 5th as an overdrive? 🧐 I may fit the 16t this weekend and review its benefits now i have all the tuning mods done 😁👍 Cheers Bruce
For what its worth,I owned a Honda Blackbird for years and it was a great bike for me. The only mods I tried on it were a K&N air filter and EBC? sintered brake pads. In my opinion, after using them for some time, there was little if any improvement. So, I reverted back yo Honda parts. The bike was just fine in factory spec. Good luck with standardising your classic 350.
Another set of tools in Felixstowe. We did the mods on Sarah's bike and she loves it. More get up and go, can only imagine they have been strangled because of emissions.
thought as much. i've got all those mods (apart from the free flow which is far too loud) and it runs brilliantly. took a bit of time to bed in but now it's a beautiful ride. i'd never go back to stock. stick with it i reckon.
@richardcrighton8079 I called it a "free flow" but it is actually the stainless de-cat pipe from Hitchcock's and their silencer. The bike is not obtrusive now that the cam timing has been put right.
@DANTHETUBEMAN I went to buy the chrome and red to start with, saw the Halcyon green and fell in love with it! Bought the chrome and red the next week!!
Mmn , not a big surprise . That's why I like to work on my own bikes . Never underestimate the ability of the previous owner , or in this case the dealer , to b*gger things up . One good thing , you passed the CATSCAN and got a years MOG certificate .
@dungspreader You me both, Even the new Enfield's I have bought, never went back to the dealer after I bought them. (apart from that infernal Interceptor for the warranty claim) Do all my own servicing right from day one. When I bought the red and chrome 350 and rode it home 28 miles, I had to get my son to come and rescue me as the rear tyre was flat and I had lost one of the rear wheel adjusters. When I went back to the dealer he said the he personally had done the PDI on my bike! The tyre incidentally wasn't punctured, it was sent out nearly flat. So much for dealers!
@@Volcanicbrown1878 . The dealer that I bought my Triumph from is pretty good because I get along with the manager who is a no b*llshit 💩type . The young sales guys are not much cop .🤡 First service only though . That's when the break in oil is drained out and they reset the computer . I can do most things but can't do computer mallarkey .😵💫 They also sell Guzzis and Royal Enfields , so all my favourite bikes are there. 😍 It's just a pity they are 14 hours away . I just phoned them today enquiring about a new 450 Himmy . Not available in Canada yet . B*gger 😢 Ah well , back on the Eldo again , life is hard !😂
It'll still be interesting as to what the mpg is like, and as you touched on in the previous video, even now it's set up properly...is it worth the expenditure?
Yeah dealers. Just had one try to charge me $ 299 for a Himmy fuel pump before notifying me of the total ,which i ended up getting on Ebay for $67. My card flagged and the total returned was $112 more than their price after i called, checked and cancelled.Quadrupled the price and tried to sneak another $112. Iowa. Enough said.
Hopefully you’ll get the bike right with your knowledge but if it’s getting a lot more to the gallon when you’ve found out and it’s running a lot smoother with a bit more power wouldn’t you leave it as is unless it will shorten the longevity of the bike and give troubles later on in life take care
@nicholasjarrold8649 I don't think there will be any detrimental effects to the engine, It is in such a low state of tune to start with. A bit like the 650 interceptor which can easily stand the 865 conversion without any problems.
Interesting so retarding the inlet cam doesn't have the same effect as on the iron barrels . Guess the dealer was turning to out think the cam designers. Surely it would of had a test ride before it went back to the owner ? .
Hard to believe a dealership would not tippex the cam sprocket and chain after tdc, pretty basic engine that is. If you ride the bike normal like before cam upgrades gas mileage loss should be barely noticeable. what you will notice is climbs hills and cuts through wind alot better.
Sounds like cam upgrade done properly sounds like a Wahoo Yeeha bike, give it a decent few runs before thinking 🤔 about changing it might grow on you & like you said you got another stock 350 too.
@ruahinesrider If I get time today, I will do a vid of both of them out on the road and try to get them on a split screen so we can see what the actual differences are. Wahoo!!
@@elwood62 seems all mods on a bike with basic ECU like REs when dyno tested never get above a 5-8% improvement. Decat, air intake, free breathing exhausts, power commanders etc.
@@LumpyCarbsthe cam mod was run on the dyno with the only other changes being the decat pipe and open air filter cover. They got an increase of 30% in hp. That seems pretty substantial to me, but maybe not worth money it would cost to get those parts to the US. I think fuelX and other little add-ons are a waste of money but no one is claiming that changing the cam doesn’t dramatically improve performance.
That is the coolest colour of the range.
At least that's a result , a whole link out, ouch! It is a gorgeous bike though, I'd learn to love it.
