    The bell legally dismisses the class, not the teacher. Even the licensed attorneys who taught my Paralegal Studies classes stated this.

    • @PsychGirlRaven
      @PsychGirlRaven 2 ปีที่แล้ว +421

      Not here it doesn’t. Their student parent handbooks tell them how long they cane remain after school. It’s a short duration but the bell doesn’t dismiss a class legally. That would mean if the bell rang early they could just leave.

    • @nerdycurls6253
      @nerdycurls6253 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1149

      @@PsychGirlRaven for highschool students the bell legally dismisses them when it rings for the end of the day. Example my old school ended at 2:50, even if the bell didn't ring a teacher or any staff at the school no longer has the authority to hold a student. That's why any after school activities need to be signed off by an adult with custody of the child or the child if 18. There are rules in case the bell rings early or doesn't ring at all.
      I currently work at a elementary school and this is a real problem with the grade 1-3 classes, teachers have even less authority to hold students who are younger.

      Yeah I've been in different schools all over Florida, the bell is the boss not the teacher. Some of us have a bus ride that's 1-2 hours long and for a teacher to force us to miss a bus because their ego couldn't stand it, well the teacher would run a huge risk of suddenly receiving a full class of angry parents because their kids were stuck in school for 2 hours after everyone left. If a teacher can't plan ahead of time to fit in that one more thing to say, then that's on them not on the students. We had this happen to a new teacher and the principal told her that if she has the gull to make kids miss their bus, she either has to provide the means to transport all these kids or call each of their parents to see if they can come pick them up and explain why their kids were forced to stay in front of the principal. She never did it again because some parents couldn't come because they were at work so they gathered us at the auditorium, and she had to transport the kids one by one (because she had a small car) while the pe teacher had to stay to make sure everyone was safe back at school. It was a good 2/3 of the class that couldn't have their parents get picked up.

      In my school we all just kept walking out while they yelled n left or went to our next classrooms. If they touched or came at any of us we made a scene and threatened them to get away don’t touch me n finally leave that horrid classroom cus some really got nothing to lose resulting them to have more trouble rather than just let us leave. Everyone helped out atp. We only stayed if we had respect. Kids got kids. I remember all of us making sure the door was closed and walking away quickly to get lost in the crowd. So many times.. That kinda teacher gona mess w the wrong one one day n no one won’t have any remorse cus they got enough of their own problems. At least I did at home. This is America. That ain’t how you teach them to use their freedoms we love the caring teachers out there that don’t act so egotistical, like I have places to be too god forbid I missed my bus my parents would have to drive from work and or I’d have to wait until the evening at school for them to arrive.. there would be “make me”‘s said if I could see the busses out the window that would really trigger me I would go for the door and windows and say my bus is here there would be a fight to get that door open even if i was alone in it. I’d scream and text my friends to come and open it before getting on that bus. no way am I getting in trouble for my teacher when class is DONE it better be the schools fault atp otherwise I’m paying for it 🙃 I was told that bell is for dismissal so the class and the teacher is dismissed until next session unless there’s an emergency where the busses will be waiting for me I have places to be. otherwise I will pay for it by my parents nothing it worth dealing with my family honestly it better be important because it’s gonna take time for them to notice until it effects them and they aren’t happy when it does. don’t slow kids down rise kids up please especially those with troubled families who deserve and need validation n respect just as much as you

    The one time a teacher did this to my class my dad was beyond furious with the teacher.
    He straight up told me, in front of the teacher and the whole class that if the teacher EVER tried to pull that again to ignore her and leave and that I absolutely would not get into trouble over it.
    When the teacher tried to complain he just told her “parent out ranks overpaid and under qualified babysitter”.
    He was VERY unhappy at being made to wait 10 minutes that he didn’t have too.
    The school actually tried to argue that him having to wait “10 minutes” and getting angry was him being unreasonable.

If I was that parent I would tell the children to leave the classroom and quite literally fight the teacher if I had to, although as I said above that likely wouldn’t be necessary

A ride and a fat check sounds great!” And she let me go. I caught my bus. And she knew better than to try that shit with my class at the end of the day.

    My third period teacher always makes us wait for her to finish talking or for whoever is presenting to finish, and the first time she did it she literally told us “the bell doesn’t dismiss you, I do” and I just kind of stood there shocked because that was the first time I’d ever heard a teacher say that. It doesn’t really matter to me because I have homeroom after and it’s pretty close, but we have a pretty big school and what about the students who have to go all the way to the other end of the school for their next class?

      The only time it matters is at dismissal or before a field trip. If you don't have a bus that might leave without you, you just tell the teacher that the previous teacher dismissed you late. That teacher probably already has a reputation for it and your teacher will just shrug it off.

      @@jamesu1540 leaving class is the opposite of disruptive. I don't live in North Korea like you. If I leave when the bell rings because I have to, the teacher has no authority. Their authority ended when their period finished.

      @@jamesu1540 ok first of all, I understand to get kicked out if your being disruptive DURING class, but if it's the end of the day and the bell has rang, you get to go. They really are not gonna do anything but be a bi*ch about it when students want to go home, maybe you're the ignorant if you can't see that, unless you want to be yelled at by parents then go off ig

    I literally hate when my last period teacher tells us to wait, I've missed my bus over 5 times cause of it and I had to freaking walk home all of those times. It's literally like a 40 minute walk

    • @shaefrocklage3881
      @shaefrocklage3881 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      They cannot legally hold you, walk out stating you have a bus to catch that you will not be missing for their disregard for your time- which it is on your time once that bell rings.

    • @the3nder1
      @the3nder1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Just leave. It's not even a legality issue. What can they actually do? Give you detention? A bad grade? So what? College isn't worth it anymore so grades aren't as important as they used to be and if they try to give you detention take it up to administration and tell them why you were leaving the class. I'm surprised your parents didn't talk to admin the first time it happened. I would be pissed if my child has to make a 40 minute walk home because some bonehead of a teacher wanted to have a power trip.

      Just leave, they can't do anything to you and if they try and punish you go to the dean (if you can get your parents involved) but they can't touch you unless they wanna pay your college tuition 🤷🏾‍♀️

      I wouldve been up to that school the first time u told me u had to walk. I had to go to my daughter's school because the bus driver brought her home 35 minutes late, just because she wanted to teach the noisy kids on the bus a lesson. That was the first and last time.
