The only thing that vaguely reminded me of Finnish TV was the introduction and ending graphics, otherwise it seems like SNL completely missed any Finnish stereotypes and mixed it up with Scandinavian ones
Yeah I get you, I’m half Finnish and half Norwegian myself. Not that SNL’s Scandinavian sketches are any better, but I don’t blame them for being inaccurate when they have so many sketches to churn out each week since it’s just for laughs. Although it’s a tiny bit annoying, cause like if you’re gonna poke fun at stereotypes that happen to be inaccurate, at least remember who those inaccurate stereotypes apply to lol
Common misconception, people tend to thing the Nordics and Scandinavia are one and the same, which is not true. Finnish and Iceland are part of the Nordic region, which includes all of Scandinavia. Scandinavia consists of three countries who share three close-knit languages and cultures: Norway, Denmark and Sweden. The more you know.
Having lived in Finland now for over three years, I'm disappointed to see how nothing like Finland this skit ends up being. The concept is still funny though.
I think they didn't so much care which nation they used as a basis for the idea, just threw a dart at a map of Europe, and whichever country the dart landed on, those would be the guys who wouldn't enjoy the end result
Finnish accent must be the hardest one to impersonate. Haven't met a single one who could do it. Also, they need more info how Finns spend their evenings. But we are indeed 'stiff'/emotionless, that one was true.
I haven't the faintest clue as to why SNL made a skit about a Finnish talkshow. But it worked, from the catchy theme tune to the "We have a clip" device.
That accent is more of a... I dunno, german-somethingsomething accent? Also, we Finns actually tend to speak pretty slowly (at least English since it's so much different language than our own). And the name Kalle, it's a boys name, not girls. Sure, in Finalnd there can be gorls named with a boys name and vice versa but it's super rare. This video did not have a good research team...
@@lajoswinkler Humor about stereotypes can be great but it requires knowing what stereotypes are associated with the culture you're making fun of. This thing is a whole lot of nonsense and basically the only remotely funny thing is having a clip for everything - which can't even be associated with Finnish talk shows so they could've just stuck with a setting they'd be more familiar with instead of trying to make fun of Finns and failing in the process. mrsarun I'm german and for me it sounded like swedish/scandinavian intonation (meaning the "prosody") and not the slightest bit "deutsch" (some strong bias of mine...). I know how finnish sounds and I can't imagine any american to emulate english with that accent. But I couldn't either do that...
This is the first time *EVER* I'm hearing Finland is not a Scandinavian country. I think you're lying. Or drunk.
@@mariharjuskeie453 Interesting bit of information. I've learned something new from presumably a reliable source, judging by your name. Thank you.
1:46 Katy: I understand that but when I came to your show...
Kristen: Oh we have a clip.
LMAO...:D
Having lived in Finland now for over three years, I'm disappointed to see how nothing like Finland this skit ends up being. The concept is still funny though.
I think they didn't so much care which nation they used as a basis for the idea, just threw a dart at a map of Europe, and whichever country the dart landed on, those would be the guys who wouldn't enjoy the end result
it’s part of the joke
Yeah they could have called this a “Danish Talk Show” and it would be like this too lol
You have been in Finland so long you have totally absorbed the culture. Vahvasti suomalainen!
As a finnish person i respect this
Finnish accent must be the hardest one to impersonate. Haven't met a single one who could do it. Also, they need more info how Finns spend their evenings. But we are indeed 'stiff'/emotionless, that one was true.
Yes, they need to show her at home drinking Koskenkorva or Lapin Kulta. ;)
i'm finnish and not even i can do the "finnish accent" :D
Khams No, we are not stiff and emotionless.
No.
Give me ten minutes and I shall cease frowning.
And then comment further.
I'm Finnish-American and I can do the Finnish accent (even though I have an American accent while speaking normally) :D
Actually, they seem very serious.
this is the typical swedish talkshow
Robin Lindqvist No :-(
no it's not
Swedish and Finnish are the same thing. But it's cute when you guys try to pretend you're different lol.
I didn't think I was gunna laugh. That shyt was funny AF.
I have fallen in love with the intro.
Already seen it 20 times.
Can't get enough of Kristen Wiig... i have got a clip!!
I love that charakter! :D
“I’m gonna leave now.” - They all do. (Wow that’s dark)
I haven't the faintest clue as to why SNL made a skit about a Finnish talkshow. But it worked, from the catchy theme tune to the "We have a clip" device.
Kristen's father is of Norwegian descent. She seemed to have some interest in doing the occasional Scandinavian characters, including Björk.
Next time Kalle needs to invite Kim K., ask her how she got famous and play a clip.
This is so funny! I'm Finnish and dying from laughter! :D
We have a clip!
No nii mäki Suomi kyl alkaa nousta maailman valoon
Olispa suomalaiset talk showt edes näin hyviä :D
täsmälleen! :D
kahvikakku totta tosin posse on paras tähä mennes
What is that dance at the end? xD
Its brilliant! XD
She's rebooting.
Perkele Polka.
I think it's Finnish twerking.
What is this accent. I have been to Finland 8 times as well as being part finish and kristen wigg is nothing like a finnish person
Mikael Parrilla lol
What is - part finish ? Did You gross the Finish Line or Finnish Line ?
The vast research team at the end is what got me🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Ooh! We have a clip!"
such a funny gag.
"Se fjutscha" XD XD XD
Best line. XD
Best research Team EU.
love this, pls more!
Always come back for this. Amazing skit.
It's funny how she happily says "we have a clip" throughout, but at 2:38, she says it regretfully.
btw, Kalle isn't female's name.
Kalle is a nickname for Karl in swedish
This was expertly done 😂😂😂
Finnish people are number one coffee drinkers in a word! Nobody drinks as much coffee as a finn. (And you just had tea?) And Kalle is a mans name...
This video did not have a good research team...
not german, dutch or swedish
Da Atte doesnt sound like german at all
I think you don't have a sense of humor. If you had one, you'd realize this was ... humor, not a documentary.
Finnish is really a weird language, can’t recognize a single word in it. Just like Hungarian. Alien languages.
Still waiting for someone to make a brilliant sketch using some proper rally English...
katy’s emotionless acting made it funnier
I was kind of expecting them to just stay silent
They casually bulit a time machine for a tv show. And they're so rigid they didn't consider the wide ranging implications of it outside of a tv show.
No, they just have such a very good research team.
As i Finn I can honestly say that this is way better than any talk show we have on TV
Why does SNL present all Scandinavians as creepy blonde robots. It's funny as hell but it doesn't make any sense.
Lazy Spark because nordic people are blonde robots
***** But I'm English. So English people being blonde robots means that Scandinavians are as well?
***** Not really but whatever.
Well I know what you're saying but Finland is not a part of Scandinavia, and neither is Iceland.
Because they haven't done their research good enough 😉
