yes a coat of clear matte nail polish does the trick, and of course really avoiding getting the handle soaking wet. I almost just wipe it wit mild disinfectant wipes and not really get the handle wet. Some of my handle Logos do fade out, but not right away.
hi pearl - yes, you can definitely use 224 as an eyeshadow brush, it will not pack colors initially tho, as you need a dense brush for that, but you can definitely build to the desired coverage.
This was the best Mac brush review I've ever seen. This is my most favorite and the bestist. I love your feature of your vintage brush. ; ) I'm trying to see all your videos that I really have interest in before others. You inspired me to buy the diamond quilt Zuca case. I can't wait to get it. You are like a live book and your talk the real thing. I love you!
hey KPerez- 224 is great for blending colors together so that the transition is gradual and seamless. It is also great for softening sharp edges on the colors. The 217 is great for both applying and blending, but you will get softer results from a 224.
Hi Sandra - you will find by using a small agled brush that you have more control in using fluidline as a liner. #208 angled brush is my fave for that! Convinced Pursebuzz (lol) to get one and she loves it! Try one!
hey Shar - its basically using a wet/damp brush with dry eyeshadows, and applying it lightly first in dusting motion then building up. Much like foil-leafing.
hi Cindy - both are Great blending brushes! 217 is more flat and 224 is round. Both are nice and fluffy. 217 is white goat hair, and 224 is black goat hair.
UDPP is the bomb! lol but you can also use shadestick and cream color base as those are emollient and will act like glue to make your pigs really stick to the lid.
the full size is softer - the SE is definitely stiffer. 194 is synthetic, and really great for any creams. 242 is also great for concealers! if the 217 works for ya - keep using it, id say.
hey drae88 - its all good. You can still enjoy makeup. Check out NYX brand, available at some small stores and drugstores. Look out for HIP shadows fro Loreal as well. very high pigmented. And Styli-Style longwear products. All drugstore products.
hey Kara - not confusing at all. IMHO, I personally would really look into good quality brushes as opposed to price. Just because theyre expensive doesnt necessarily mean they are good brushes. In my loew-cornell video feature, the brushes are both good and inexpensive.
hey Michelle - 187 (liquid or powder) OR 190 (cream or powder) for foundation (depending on type of foundation), 150 for powder, 129 for brush and bonzers, 239 and 217 for eyeshadows and blending, 219 for smudging/smokey-ing, 208 for eyeliner and brows, 311 for lips.
hey gail - definitely try using a primer, like UDPP. I like using 239 when packing on pigments and applying e/s to outer crease and brow bone, otherwise, I tend to prefer 217.
I personally have used it on my waterline, and I didnt get any troubles with it - some people get watery eyes. So I'd say try it the next time you go to a MAC counter if you dont own fluid line yet. In my upcoming GILDED eye look, I used it in my waterline.
This is the best MAC brush must-have/suggestion/explanation tutorial I've seen on here. I swear I just made a list of which ones to get, you explained "if you use mineral, cream, powder use...." no other guru does that, so thank you so very much. The gurus tell you to get it but not why and what type of makeup it's good for.
gosh I like both - if you want something that works well in applying eyeshdow and blending it, then the 217 is best. If you are just looking for a great blending brush fo rthat purpose, then the 224 is your brush.
hey Lisa - it looks like you will need foundation that gives you coverage, as well as moisturing! You can either try Moistureblend or Mineralized SATINfinish (with vitamins, good for skin).
You can use a clear matte varnish or lacquer and brush that on top of the logo. I dont like using clear nail polish, as, much like on fingernails, they do crack and peel easily. I personally just use a matte ART fixative spray by Grumacher, and just reapply every 2 months or so.
its ok Belx - you'll find that the 217 is excellent in applying eyeshadows lightly, more soft focus look than packing it on with a flat dense brush like 239, and then the 224 is great for really blending out sharp edges than the 217. And if you're a good blender, either brush will work.
hey Yene - i'd probably get the 224 first as its becoming more and more popular of a brush these days. Now if you want something narrower with the benefits of a white goat hair brush, then look into the 222.
275 is goat hair - so its natural bristles. It is denser and great for contouring crease lines. Now the colors - most MAC brushes that are black goat hair have the same color. So if yours is greyish black, Id raise a suspicion.
yes, syth to creams, naturals to powders. BUT - there are few that you will find otherwise. Like Doe Foot natural is best for MetalX which is cream. And 109 Natural is great for Moistureblend cream Foundation. Things like that. 217 is white goat hair. 168 is great for contouring creams or powders.
I am sooo glad that you asked this question!!! Exactly what i want to know. I used nail polish on one of mine and it peeled off and took the numbers!! :( I would really like to know how to keep my numbers.
i think i now have the brushes figured out, i was writing down the numbers, copied and pasted the pictures from the mac website and will go to the art store to buy the cheaper versions, thanks for the info :)
I stained one of my white bristled brush before with red henna, and I diluted 2 drops of bleach with 5 drops of water and and dipped the brush, I let it sat for about 10 mins and washed it really good. Luckily, henna came off.
anyone can do it - foiling is basically using a wet brush with dry powders. The newer technique is basically just applying it on so that the tips of the brush are touching the skin - very much like Foil Leafing in crafts.
Thanks for the wonderful video! I went out and bought the 109 and 150 brush after watching your face brush video. I love them! Also, when you get a chance, could you post a video on a mineralized eyeshadow look? Thanks!
hey plumshine - I contacted customer service for international products, and it looks like it WILL eventually make it to the UK and AUS. So, just give it time. For now, MAC website allows international shipping, i believe.
Amazing video, perfect, now i know exactly wich brush to buy - 'im in Brazil and MAC is really expensive for us, so unfortunatelly i can't afford all brushes, but now I can choose wich one is best for me! thank you!!
hey Kristin - they are harvested much like wool. They shave the hair with no harm to animals. Now, I dont know if this is the same with fakes you find online like eBay. But brand names are getting more animal-friendly.
hey choibokiu - are you using it directly to the skin or are you using a primer? Its best to use a primer with pigs, it adheres better with less fall-outs. Also, start little then build as oppose to packing loads at the beginning. A vid on pigs will be coming soon. I hope it helps ya and everyone who has same problem.
I just got my 217 and 224 today! :) Couldn't buy anymore because I bought the MAC kabuki brush, and that one was pricey! Next brush I think I will get is the 219...Thanks for the great tips on which brushes to get! So helpful! :)
first, i must say i love your videos. i think i've actually watched this three times lol, but i just realized that your first brush the mac 32 (i think it was) well the logo looked exactly like my mac 216 brush i bought at an outlet a few months ago. now i know its from waay back when!
HI Enkore. I love your videos. I have not seen all of them yet, but I probably will see them all by this afternoon. anyhow I'm wondering if you could please make a video about how to take care of all the brushes?? I have no idea when it comes to cleaning them. please?? thanks so much. ^^ i Love Love Love U! : )
Hey Enkore! I love watching your videos and they are so helpful! (: thanks for taking out your time to help us all. I have a question for you, I've heard from other people on youtube that putting clear nail polish will prevent the numbers on Mac brushes from fading but others say that it has made their numbers peel off. do you recommend it?
Wow, your tutorials on brushes are so amazing. There's so many mac brushes out there, and I didn't know which to choose as essentials. I can't thank you enough for the info! Question about #224. Is it only for blending, or can you use it to apply eye shadow?
Hi chanel113.. Thanks for the reply:) I used to wear a lot of eyeliner on my waterlines during the late 1970's (it was VERY fashionable then) Yup, I am 44 even though people think I look like if I am still in my early 20's...hehe... Make up and vanity keep us young, believe me, not to mention good skin care! Also, ancient Egyptians used to wear black eyeliner on their waterlines (to prevent eye infections). I suppose you have to be careful but as you said, I think it is pretty safe...
I have some oldies but goodies also. My first 2 brushes: #2- flat face brush. Not quite full enough for blush application. #36 is definitely an eye, more tapered than the 222. Both these are dark haired. What is your best guess at their current equivalent? My older brushes have the faded France stamp in the wood near the end. Newer brushes from mac website are either w/Japan or USA (not as deep in the wood).
hey nandaottoni - you can watch my Homemade Brush Cleanser video. That will save you money from buying expensive cleansers in Brazil. Just water, alcohol, gentle shampoo, and leave in conditioner. I hope that helps. And its cheaper to make.
When I bought my fluidliner the mac artist told me that technically your not supposed to wear it (or any eyeliner) on your waterline, but you can if you want to cause it looks great anyway. I wear it there and i havent had any problems at all.
thanks so much for this video. it was REALLY helpful!
Your video is so detailed and I really loved it!
Enkore, your enthusiasm for make-up is contagious. Love your videos! I've learned so much from you. Keep doing the do. Thanks!
This really helped!
Thank you.
Thank you! Love your videos!
I LOVE ur videos you always make me smile...ur AMAZING at makeup and so smart...I LOVE UR CHANNEL!
hey Xeva - I will look into it.
Very helpful... thanks
Thank you. Very informative video.
definitely try the 209 fine line brush - great for thin lining using fluidline.
Ok, I actually called it Gilded Grape look. A really creative look for the holidays.
hey Shar - yeah shinier, like a metal foil effect to it. I will be doing a quick vid on this as soon as I get better.
thank you so much for sharing!
hey gail - yes on the brushes. UDPP does help eyeshadow. I suggest using if you are going to be active, like going to the gym.
yes a coat of clear matte nail polish does the trick, and of course really avoiding getting the handle soaking wet. I almost just wipe it wit mild disinfectant wipes and not really get the handle wet. Some of my handle Logos do fade out, but not right away.
hey vintage diamond - 209 brush is a liner brush. Excellent to use for liquid eyeliners and Fluidline gels.
hi pearl - yes, you can definitely use 224 as an eyeshadow brush, it will not pack colors initially tho, as you need a dense brush for that, but you can definitely build to the desired coverage.
hey Lanie - aside from the short handle, the SE are mass produced as they are sold in set units. The full-sized are individually hand-crafted.
jey jacqui - yes, mine got lighter too after a few washes.
I love you!
You helped me a a lot more then the other videos from girls thank you alot
hey derder - washing it frquently and making sure not getting the handle wet. And holding it trying to avoid the logo helps it from rubbing off.
hey KPerez- 224 is great for blending colors together so that the transition is gradual and seamless. It is also great for softening sharp edges on the colors. The 217 is great for both applying and blending, but you will get softer results from a 224.
hey blueprincess - definitely go for the 228.
223 is a blender brush, like a 224 - its greta for softening colors, and blending the sharp edges on your eyeshadow.
Hi Sandra - you will find by using a small agled brush that you have more control in using fluidline as a liner. #208 angled brush is my fave for that! Convinced Pursebuzz (lol) to get one and she loves it! Try one!
hahaha Shar - I saw that video of you an JS. Your vids are hi-larious!
hey Loolee - I find I use the 217 as a multi use brush.
thank you!!
I love watching ur videos....
Your one if the few that I believe that is truthful and honest... May god bless u and keep making great videos.......
hey Shar - its basically using a wet/damp brush with dry eyeshadows, and applying it lightly first in dusting motion then building up.
I'd go for the 239 and the 217.
the full size is softer - the SE is definitely stiffer. 194 is synthetic, and really great for any creams. 242 is also great for concealers! if the 217 works for ya - keep using it, id say.
YES mostly goat hair and squirrel hair.
great vid! i love the 217 brush! i have like 3 of them! im also looking to get the 224 brush for blending the crease area
hey drae88 - its all good. You can still enjoy makeup. Check out NYX brand, available at some small stores and drugstores. Look out for HIP shadows fro Loreal as well. very high pigmented. And Styli-Style longwear products. All drugstore products.

THANKS ENKORE
Hi Koren, gilded eye look... WOW that sounds so exciting... I look forward to that... Thanks for the advice, I will try it before purchasing...:)
hey Michelle - 187 (liquid or powder) OR 190 (cream or powder) for foundation (depending on type of foundation), 150 for powder, 129 for brush and bonzers, 239 and 217 for eyeshadows and blending, 219 for smudging/smokey-ing, 208 for eyeliner and brows, 311 for lips.
hey gail - definitely try using a primer, like UDPP. I like using 239 when packing on pigments and applying e/s to outer crease and brow bone, otherwise, I tend to prefer 217.
hey bsaranya - when you get a chance to watch, youll find my videos on cleaning and restoring brushes. I hope that helps ya. Enjoy!
ah - you must have the classic one. the older ones are made in France and of Squirrel Hair. I will have to look that up to make sure.
I personally have used it on my waterline, and I didnt get any troubles with it - some people get watery eyes. So I'd say try it the next time you go to a MAC counter if you dont own fluid line yet. In my upcoming GILDED eye look, I used it in my waterline.
I was using Ben Nye and Kryolan prior to MAC.
This is the best MAC brush must-have/suggestion/explanation tutorial I've seen on here.
I swear I just made a list of which ones to get, you explained "if you use mineral, cream, powder use...." no other guru does that, so thank you so very much.

ohh duh! lol thank u so much for both of your answers! =D

blending brush 224.

I always find myself singing along to your intro =] I wish you would put it back into your newer videos =]
oh no - you can use a 227 on any eyeshadow. Great for highlighter brush in the brown bone, and a great blending brush as well.
I am sooo glad that you asked this question!!! Exactly what i want to know. I used nail polish on one of mine and it peeled off and took the numbers!! :( I would really like to know how to keep my numbers.
s/e are machine mass made, full size are individually handcrafted. Some of the s/e have harder bristles than its full versions.
i think i now have the brushes figured out, i was writing down the numbers, copied and pasted the pictures from the mac website and will go to the art store to buy the cheaper versions, thanks for the info :)
Yes I agree with starsandthunder. It WILL eventually rub off.
I stained one of my white bristled brush before with red henna, and I diluted 2 drops of bleach with 5 drops of water and and dipped the brush, I let it sat for about 10 mins and washed it really good. Luckily, henna came off.

Fix+, cuz theres more used to it, and the botanical ingredients are definitely better for the skin.
Absolutely in LOVE with your videos! If you could only have ONE shadow brush for blending, which would it be?
Thanks for the wonderful video! I went out and bought the 109 and 150 brush after watching your face brush video. I love them!
Also, when you get a chance, could you post a video on a mineralized eyeshadow look? Thanks!
hey plumshine - I contacted customer service for international products, and it looks like it WILL eventually make it to the UK and AUS. So, just give it time. For now, MAC website allows international shipping, i believe.
yeah mine says France too - hmm something comparable today, nothing that comes in mind really. I guess we have rare finds now! what ya say?
Amazing video, perfect, now i know exactly wich brush to buy - 'im in Brazil and MAC is really expensive for us, so unfortunatelly i can't afford all brushes, but now I can choose wich one is best for me! thank you!!
Your brush is older than me
20 years old!!! :P
hey gail - wash it, shape the bristle flat, then dry laying flat. See if that makes a diff.
hey - I still see 259 in the stores and counters. You might want to check them out first. Other wise, 275 is good too.
hey Kristin - they are harvested much like wool. They shave the hair with no harm to animals. Now, I dont know if this is the same with fakes you find online like eBay. But brand names are getting more animal-friendly.

Haha...I have a 224 that has the old logo like the 252 you have. I always wondered why the logo was different. :)
I just got my 217 and 224 today! :) Couldn't buy anymore because I bought the MAC kabuki brush, and that one was pricey! Next brush I think I will get is the 219...Thanks for the great tips on which brushes to get! So helpful! :)

I was 6! Yeah I started really young :) LOL
208... Thanks Koren, I will get it...
HI Enkore. I love your videos. I have not seen all of them yet, but I probably will see them all by this afternoon. anyhow I'm wondering if you could please make a video about how to take care of all the brushes?? I have no idea when it comes to cleaning them.
please??
thanks so much.
^^
i Love Love Love U! : )
A tip to keep the logo on your brushes is to put a coat of clear nail polish over the logo so it doesn't rub off.
yeah Sorry - the first time i did it - it only loaded half of the vid, so I have to do it all over again.
Thanks - one more to edit - eyeliner brushes. LOL
Hey Enkore! I love watching your videos and they are so helpful! (: thanks for taking out your time to help us all.
I have a question for you, I've heard from other people on youtube that putting clear nail polish will prevent the numbers on Mac brushes from fading but others say that it has made their numbers peel off. do you recommend it?

hahaha.. I love this comment :)
use brush cleanser and wipe back and forth until all makeup residue is gone.
I have some oldies but goodies also. My first 2 brushes: #2- flat face brush. Not quite full enough for blush application. #36 is definitely an eye, more tapered than the 222. hey Enkore! Love all your videos, by the way! I have a question: is the 227 brush only for mineral eye shadow? other uses? let me know!
hey nandaottoni - you can watch my Homemade Brush Cleanser video. That will save you money from buying expensive cleansers in Brazil. Just water, alcohol, gentle shampoo, and leave in conditioner. I hope that helps. And its cheaper to make.
heehee - well just get them when you're readly one brush at a time :)
clear tape!
When I bought my fluidliner the mac artist told me that technically your not supposed to wear it (or any eyeliner) on your waterline, but you can if you want to cause it looks great anyway. I wear it there and i havent had any problems at all.
You will probably like 228 better, if you're doing small areas. Check that out.
