Another Quick Tip to Make your day a little less complicated!
~-~~-~~~-~~-~
Realizing that next year I would ( hopefully) be hatching More Turkeys as well as chickens..I need another incubator...so I decided to build one! Yes I will be testing it soon so you can see How it works..but from what I can tell..it is going to work FINE!! - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
I should have watched this yesterday BEFORE I bought mine for $50. Brilliant!
Loved your video, Finally someone showing us how basic it is to wire a fan without talking electrical talk or referring us to an electrician..THANKYOU !
Best Home made incubator I've seen yet!! I made one on a lot smaller scale, didn't know about the air circulation, so my hatching rate was low. This is one cool incubator!!!!
You remind me of my mum, you are legendary. I have been watching homestead videos for years, but first time I have seen your channel. Strange
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen! Brilliant!
Doing a good job but may I make a suggestion; First thinking ahead to cleaning and sterilizing because they will get nasty ,so maybe painting the inside of the box to give it a cleanable surface. and the for the ones I have made using light bulbs.I found it better to place two bulbs at lower watts than to go one bulb at the higher wattage. So if in the middle of the night if a bulb burns out the other bulb will still hold the temp. But it is very nice of you to take the time to be helping out the newbies.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this video!!!!! Is there anything you can't do??!!!!! You simply amaze me!!!! I can't wait to make one of these!!! Thank you so very much!!!!!
Wow, that was terrific! You are so talented and I can't wait to see the egg turner and how you deal with getting humidity in the incubator. This is so exciting.
I think so too!
Finally i found this video which is practical for the starter.its simple not so expensive but serves the purpose.thank you
Oh my goodness, this is great! I would never have tried to wire something myself before this video. I actually think I can build this and I will! Thank you!
That was my thought too! I thought electrical "stuff" was so much more complicated. And then Bev hooked some bare wire around a couple of screws and plugged it in. WHAT?!?! That's all there is to it? Get out!!!!
Excellent! You make it look soooo easy! Brilliant job well done!
I love all your technical terms "thingie" hahaha. So cool!! Thanks for sharing!!
You clever, clever girl! I'm showing this to the hubby, and hunting one of those coolers straight away! (we have the rest) Thank you so much.
great work! May I suggest adding a simple power-free hygtometer to monitor humidity? They run about $5 on amazon :)
That is brilliant! I HAVE to do this!!! I try to make the most of what I have but sometimes ya just need a little push in the right direction. Your ingenuity is unsurpassed!
Thanks you! I built and incubator when my kids were little..out of ply wood, chicken wire and old window and the lights like I have in this one..worked great..my greatest joy was wking my 9 and 4 year olds up at 5 am to watch a chick hatch. I like this design though..it is reusable..I will be making the eggs turner on the weekend!
awesome job Mrs V...you're one smart cookie
I want to say I followed all your steps and built the incubator and it’s working so well just figuring out how to sustainable humidity but great instructions 💙🙌🏾
If you are up for fun, you can buy a pid ( temp and humidity).. a pid turns on the heat lamp and maintains the box temp to whatever you set it to. But it can also turn on a fan for humidity control. I use a 12v pib as I am off grid and on solar. 👍🏻
Your are so darn inventive. I hope I can be as creative as you once we get moved out of the city. Take care!
Wow, very impressed with your skills!
I could never even conceive of anything like this. Here I wa=ss thinking of you as just the lady who made laundry soap....lol. You are wayyyyyy too cool!
AWW Thank you!!
BWAHHHAHAHA OHHHH i hear ya about the foam, i countersunk the boomerang when i sent it to bexar prepper for the 2014 unplugged challenge, an i did it outside,i had foam flying around everywhere in the yard for weeks.
LOOOOVVVEEEE the mood lighting, need a little Barry white playing in the background a few rose petals, "darling I, cant get enough a your love baby" lol.
very nicely done Mrs V :)
This was too cool. I've learned so much from watching your videos. I know the babies are nice and comfy in there before they're born haha.
Thank you!
Thank you for posting this video. you saved me $3k from buying an incubator for my project.
Absolutely Fantastic!!
You are simply amazing!!! Can't wait to see the egg turner :D
it's going to take a day or two
Excellent video!!! All your videos are great. Very practical with recycled parts and such brains you have...Amazing...
Thank you!
thank you, thank you!!! my little one was just saying she wanted an incubator for hatching chick...Brilliant!!!
My Pleasure!
I can't wait to see what you come up with for an egg turner.
It will be quite simple
Brilliant...This is just what I am needing. Thanks
Awesome! I was going to buy a water heater thermostat but now I will get a plug in dimmer switch, so much easier and cleaner! Thanks very much!
in my followup video..I recommend getting a thrmostat
Darn lol. Why did you recommend it?
Wow Bev , You can do everything.
lol..no not really..but I like to try stuff! This is something I did when the kids were small..but this time I wanted a more permanent structure!
Great idea, very informative!
You are always using your coconut!!!!!!! What a smart lady!
Thank you!
Good Job! Love your style!
You are an awesome teacher Bev!
Thanks you!
You Go Girl! this is the kind of stuff I do.. still amazes hubby! we don't need no handy man haha..Im 64 and still building/electrical/painting, paving, etc etc etc! . electricians HATE these kinds of videos... "electrical shock.. dangerous..you need an electrician $$$$ blah blah blah. well if they weren't so bloody expensive, wed use them ha! *johns wife*
Really a great ideal. Nice job! Was a little worried with you and the knife... lol. Really a great looking incubator. I will be building one just like it. Thanks for the video.
My Pleasure! Feel free to rate and share!
OurHalfAcreHomestead I do have a question for you. With the fan pulling room temperature air into the incubator wouldn't that make it a little hard controlling the temperature inside the incubator?
Larry342516 no because the room temperature is usually always the same.
Can't wait to see what you come up with for the egg turner!
Me too..it may take a day or two!
OurHalfAcreHomestead Haha. Been there! The idea buzzing in the head, just one piece missing..... :)
***** I almost have it!
Geat video. thanks for sharing your knowledge. I gotta go find the egg turner video now.
You're so fearless Bev. This is great to know and TY for sharing.
My Pleausre sweety!
Thank you very. You are help full
What a clever women you are. Thank You for this. I am about to start raising chicks soon this will help immensely with cost and a very neat way to control and observe the eggs. Now how about that egg turner. Again thank you. Love all of your videos. .
You are so amazing Bev, Love to you from Kate in Ga.
Very resourceful! Good job, Bev. ;)
thanks uncle Mikey!
good to know there are cheaper way's to do things :) thanks for sharing
yup!
I'm impressed.
That’s fabulous, I’ve been looking at how expensive it is to buy an incubator and I can’t believe how expensive they are. I already have just about everything I need to bouts one for myself.
New to farm life, new to chickens and looking forward to trying to hatch some baby chicks :-)
Build **
Thanks again for this wonderful project, I have already started to get all the material together so I can built one,I already have 2 but one more is not going to hurt. So thanks you, and by the way how is your husband doing. Thank you. Texas
AWESOME How to Video! Thank you so much for sharing!! ❤🙌❤😉
My Pleasure!
Fantastic project Bev, thanks for sharing. ollllllllllo
I would suggest taking a sharpie and marking a line in the middle of the switch on your dimmer switch and then on the actual little box of the dimmer exactly where you get 99.5 or whatever its supposed to be that way you know, you could even mark it in different color for different wattage bulbs.
Very nice, thanks for sharing
Excellent video. I'm having a problem with the temperature creeping up too much. I haven't put the fan on. Will that make it easier? What about the humidity? Also, what watt bulb are you using? Thanks
heck yea- i was waiting for this one- now i know i can do it- awesome-
I am REALLY happy with the results!
Go girl! Great idea. I going to get a cooler. That a little giant egg turner fits in. God bless
Necessity is the Mother of invention.....Nice job, Bev.
Thanks so much!
almost makes me think I could manage to do this lol! y'all never cease to amaze me...and good news FINALLY...9 out of the 10 new chicks I purchased are hanging in there so maybe maybe they will be ok. hope the light brahmas live up to all the hype cause they have certainly been trouble ;-)
I am glad to hear they are doing ok!! Let me know How you like the Brahmas!
OurHalfAcreHomestead I have some light brahmas, they're a big bird but, for the feed verses egg/meat production I'd rather have the Rhode island reds or golden comets.
DixieGirl9876 I need a new rooster for next spring..I ws thinking of a buff orpington
OurHalfAcreHomestead I've heard they're a good choice.
Old video but I am extremely impressed. Freaking awesome!
Look at you go McGiver! Nice job lady! :)
Thanks you! I am quite pleased with the results for sure!
wow you are one talented lady
Thank you!
I Was Your 400TH Like. Great Job, You Made It Perfectly Simple,
Thank you!
have you done the video about egg turner?
I would like to watch it.
By the way, Thanks for spending your time making this video. Helped me a lot.
Do you need a heat lamp? Can you use a regular lamp that can brighten or dim?
Bev you are a smart lady 👍
Well done! Added to my "how to" favorites so when I get to making one I can review how you did this.
Awesome!
Did it work?
@@bleb9608 I broke down a few years ago and purchased an incubator.
Very very cool guys! Love it :-)
Fantastic!!!
Excellent-this is great!!
Thank you!
That was awesome Sis,
J
Thanks Little Brother!
You guys are related?! I found you both separately and love both of your channels! 😁
Yes, I built 2 of them too. Spent $21.00. BUT we could not keep a constant humidity nor temp due to the weather here in TX. I was totally bummed. I need to record mine and upload a vid. I really can not wait to see how yours works for you.
Where to get the coolers? TY.
I know this is an older video, but I was wondering if you had successful hatches with this incubator. I am looking to build my own and I was hoping to see or hear of your success or failures while using it.
Looking forward to you posting hatching day! Is there anything you do for the humidity or is that a different process?
Warm wet sponges on a saucer!
Very practical design. Does it work well?
Wow, that's inventive. At first I was thinking my husband could build this, but you've explained it so well, I think I could actually build this. Looking forward to seeing if you can rig an egg turner. Will you be covering how to do the humidity in it as well?
Yes I will cover the humidity..we are going to test it out with a few turkey eggs once it is all assembled!
OurHalfAcreHomestead Neat. I am excited to see how it works out.
Where did you find the coolers? I know where I can obtain the other goodies. I love recycling stuff I already have!
Your so smart! I can't wait to see if it works.. it would save us a lot of money if it does! Blessings!
It will work..this is not my first one built..but it is built to be more permanant than the ones I did before.
OurHalfAcreHomestead So where does one find such a big styrofoam chest.. I have never seen one so big! Hope we see more video's.. I am wondering how you will do the water part of it! Thanks
1994abbygirl I found it on kijiji.ca As for the water..sponges soaked in warm water work well!
Thanks.. I'll look in the US,I had to ship someone in Canada a ebay item and heavens it cost a mint!
"Never throw away twist-ties" --this should be the motto of the Packrat Club
I've said it before but it bears repeating...Martha Stewart fears you!!! 💕
lol...as she should...JK
Secure the wires a few inches from where they attach to the light socket. Just tie them down or secure them to the fixture so you won't be pulling on the electrical connections if you pull on the cord. This is called "cord relief" and it's required in the National Electrical Code (NEC by the NFPA) book because if you are putting mechanical stress on the electrical connection it can lead to a poor connection = fire hazard. Of course there are lots of other codes (such and such enclosures, etc..) but I think the cord relief is the most important improvement you can make.
I'm working on a homemade incubator myself - if I ever finish it - maybe I'll post. Kind Regards.
great video but have you built the turner? where is he video?
U r sure a helpful person..tyvm.
I do have a question, not pertaining to this at all.
Can onion blades be cut up, and canned along with the bottoms of onions in jars?
I will be waiting for your answer.
I am not sure I understand the Question..what is an onion blade?
You are awesome 😊
Could you please tell me what size the cooler box was and kind of lamp did you buy
Also, for anyone that might have a question about computer/pc fans. They can come in different watts. You can have a 6 watt or a 12 watt fan. I do not recommend using anything higher than a 12 watt though. You can find these at thrift stores in old pc towers, but it might be a bit costly. I would ask friends, family, or good neighbors if they have any old computers that are broken so that you can scavenge the fans from them. You might even get lucky and find one that has more than one fan in it. A local pc repair shop might have extras they are willing to part with as well. I might even have a few that I would barter/trade/ sell if anyone is interested. Doesn't hurt to ask or help!
Your one crafty chicky . Necessity is the Mother of all invention and you just saved your self and everyone else lots of money . Hugs :)
That was the whole idea! I am QUITE pleased with the results..the egg turner will be much easier!
I told my husband you had made your own and showed him the video and asked him to make me one we have most of the supplies just laying around the house anyway .They cost so much to buy I can't believe how much they charge for things. We will be getting our chicks on May 23 ( they will be a week old) I'm super excited I haven't had laying hens since I was a kid back on my parents homestead. Are you making a egg turner? I would love to see the video. How are the goats doing? Do you still fodder? sorry for the questions :( but thanks for sharing your knowledge :)
pinebrookprepper I will be building the Egg Turner Sunday or Monday..No fodder right now..the porch is torn up and no green house yet! Goats are great!
Awesome looking foreword to it .Thanks Bev have a nice weekend.:)
pinebrookprepper Thank you! Culling and canning most of the older laying hens today!
Hi Mom, thanks for your video, two hands thumbs up, brilliant !!! would you please tell me, to where I can get /buy the plug in dimmer switch ?.....may be Home depot, Lowe, or some where I don't know. By waiting your answer, thanks again.
+sari mu Home depot!
How many Eggs Capacity plus the Dimension if the box please !
sari mu
Im really needing a incubator and we have a pile of old snake shipping boxes so hoping to make one of these soon!
Woot!
I have three turkey eggs in mine..and am putting chicken eggs in next week!
Our ducks all got killed by foxes and we have seven eggs but its been like two weeks so I doubt their good anymore. Same with our female goose we have five of her eggs here.
Great Idea! Out of curiosity what would a new incubator cost to purchase?
I paid $115 for my incubator and Ove $75 for the egg turner..
Beverly Wolfe. I live in Arkansas. We call the tops of onions blades..the green tops. The part, that is not in the ground. Can I safely chop them up and can them in jars, along with the bottoms of the onions, that is in the ground.
Bravo👏👏👏‼️
Would this be good for quail?
Where did you buy the stuff from thanks god bless
where did you find that big styrofoam box at
Where did you get that dimmer switch? I have looked everywhere
How do we determine humidity? I dont have a high tech thingy to do it with. I built my incubator just like this one. I sat a whole cup of water in it. Now how do I determine if it's right?
Put a sponge in a saucer of water that will work better!
hi OurHalfAcreHomestead , i needs ask
can you use a 12V 100W PTC Car Fan Air Heater Constant Temperature Heaters with a digital thermostat Controller 12v any iders on how i would go about do this ,plaese could do video on this ? would love to here back from you.
kind regards
What about water for the humidity?
Did u use a dimmable lite bulb made for dimming
does it still work that's an awesome idea tfs
Thanks I like your idea.like your tattoos. Problem I think egg turner. Glenn
Thank God you use your BRILLIANT powers for good. I can't imagine the destruction you could wield if you used that incredible cleverness for evil! ; ) Serious respect for any woman who knows how to do anything electrical. I would have burnt the house down or at the very least, scorched my hair.
now YOU need to build one!
Would you believe I just ordered another incubator. . . yesterday morning.! Timing is everything, as they say. But I needed one before the 7th, and I doubt I would have gotten around to making one before then. (Like you, I'm running out of room for the turkey eggs.)
Michigansnowpony I just got word that the guy who gave us the duck eggs had not luck hatching them in his incubator..I guess he had just put them in and walked away..Howie explained there is a lot more to it than that..so he requested That I hatch some duck eggs for him on shares! If he get's them to me soon..SURE!!
