Yep, love this channel. A few years ago I was the fittest I’d ever been, I’d commute a 20 mile round trip everyday on my bike, bodyweight exercises every morning, cold showers, meditation, breathwork, you name it, and I’d fit most of it into an hour’s routine before I’d start my day. Then I was hit by a series of life events that resulted in 4 years of clinical depression and all of it dropped away. I started drinking and smoking again, regulating my mood with coffee, beer and cigarettes. I’m just beginning to recover and have felt overwhelmed by the hill I have to climb to return to that state of physical and mental wellbeing, but this channel really cuts out all the crap and shows how to reach those goals in simple achievable steps. Props to you and gratitude 🙏🏼
I’m sorry you went through all of that. I hope you know how impressive it is that you’re trying to turn your life back around. Stay strong. You can do this!
same here, a chain of events lead to the same behaviour. I'm walking 15-20k steps and swimming every second day, will start bodyweight soon. Had a lousy diet to, which I have now changed to healthy and tasty. I'm losing approximately 1 kg a week, noticing more clarity and stability, sleeping better too. Trying to deal with feelings of guilt and loss, but the feeling that I'm on the right path does soften that a bit.

The digestive effects are so huge, wish I would have mentioned them in the video. If I eat a heavy meal, I pretty much have to take a casual walk to digest it.

I often walk whenever I can. It gives me a chance to see things and to think. I don't listen to music, so I am alone with my thoughts. It usually takes me about an hour to walk home. However, one problem with walking is it wears out your shoes.
Walking is essential to a good workout and dieting and water. I remember during the pandemic I was 199lbs so what I would do is with my watch I would walk from one end of my apartment inside to the other end as it counted my steps I was able to get 10,000 steps in doing it in about a 2-3 hour time frame but broke it up to about 30 or 40 minutes each. I'm 172lbs through that exercising and changing up my eating habits.
If it's just fat loss you're after, nothing beats walking & fasting. Harder cardio creates an appetite. For fat loss, just ploughing on with a fast, with regular walks thrown in, is likely far better than an exhausting HIIT session
For decades I have gone on cycling holidays and even riding up to 150 miles a day I will often eat less than on a day sat doing nothing. My camping stove isn’t big enough to make a big meal. I will lose a pound of weight for every 60 to 80 miles and I if my breathing is anything to go by I’m not breathing as heavily as if I were jogging. Virtually all my energy is coming from fat stores. I have noticed that once I approach a healthy minimum weight I want to eat more but this is probably a good thing and shows my body knows what it’s doing.
@@hornedgod2873running burns more calories than walking but effects your joints worse…your better off power walking unless you want problems with your joints when your older 👍
I used to work in a prison. I would do 25000 steps per shift (est, 12miles). Would only workout 2 days a week but was in far better shape doing this in my 30s... than I was when I was in my 20s going to the gym 5 times a week.
Struggled to lose weight. But when I started hiking! I lost 20kg in one year. Ofcourse I was eating correctly at a deficit and regular weight training but what really helped lose weight was the hiking.
I’ve found that I won’t see much weight loss unless I’m doing 10,000 steps/day but walking definitely works for weight loss. I carry 2lb weights when I exercise/walk
I run about 80-100 miles a week and have run over 30 marathons. Running gives you fitness, but walking is best for body recomposition and weight loss. The percentage of fat burned walking vs running and the reduced strain is the best about walking. I have a walking treadmill under my work desk and use it all the time. I don’t remember when’s the last time I sat down for work.
People really underestimate walking for fat loss, I guess because it seems too low intensity and people always assume you need hard workouts to burn fat. But everyone I know who has tried it has attested to it's fat loss potential. Plus it leaves so much energy left over for other activities.
I've walked for an hour every day on an incline treadmill for the past three weeks. I had already lost ~60kg from dieting over the past two years, but the effects on my visual looks is staggering.

Always start with building up your mentality for successful body transformation. You're obviously doing a good thing by deciding to lose weight and look better. Many people do the mistake of doing these changes in an obsessive way instead of doing it out of self respect. This may not seem like a problem at first but believe me if you don't change the mindset first you will gain all of it or even more. So my advice to people losing weight is, for the longevity of your hard efforts you need to prepare yourself for the change. I'm an ex pro swimmer and I also used to run when I was a teenager. My 100 meter personal best is 12.5 seconds. Now that I'm 25 years old I probably won't beat my pb but it's alright I'm proud of what I achieved. I am 180 cm (5' 11") and 73 kilos (160 pounds). To all my friends who struggle with all my sincerity I respect and support all your efforts you put on your weight loss journey. Don't ever let the numbers make you feel like a loser, keep going strong and show those numbers who's boss.
I think the biggest benefit from walkin is just blood flow, many illness comes from lack of good circulation,if u dont have good circulation aka blood flow your cells, organs everythin doesnt get supply of nutrients and oxygen and sickness is inevitable..nowadays most of the health and beauty treatmens are actually focusin on improvin blood flow but the best way to do that is free and available to all of us..my routines is 2 or 3 20 to 30min brisk walks daily plus workin out..without that we just cant be healthy especialy after 30
Maybe stop thinking of it as exercise, start thinking of it as movement. Only walking is fine obviously, but there is definitely something you will like if you are open to change in this area (martial arts, dance, parkour, anything on this channel). It depends on the type of person you are. Walking is also my favorite, since I can let my mind wander, be slow, be fast, be present, be nowhere, et cetera. However, I also enjoy dancing, it gives me a feeling like nothing else. I also hate and love running, I feel shit the first couple kilometres and then start feeling great and energized. I also like moving with someone else to talk, feel and connect. I (can learn to) like (almost) everything if I am open for change. There is definitely something.
I was like you but 3 weeks ago I started by walking now I do cardio, pilates and a little bit strengthening workout, it feels so good after every workout. I do each of them in separate day with two days rest. I lost 5kg. My body feels so flexible and I love that.
I changed my diet a year ago, lost 10kg, then plateaued (kept the diet tho), then didnt care anymore, then with the same diet tried to lose weight again, stopped smoking which also improved my sleep and walking 30-40 min each day at 4-5 km/h around 3 weeks ago and lost literally nothing. Dunno what else to do
They say that you can't out-exercise a poor diet, but if you count your calories (for instance using an app) AND add walking on top, results will be incredible given the low effort. That's what worked for me - finally got back into teenage form in late 20s, and actually improved it with even more muscles, because I added weight training and cycling. If you can't keep your calories under certain threshold, try intermittent fasting - for me it's easier when i start eating late in the day, for instance between noon and 08:00 PM. It feels like I'm not even hungry in the morning because my stomach is still asleep lol
I’ve been walking on the treadmill, with a goal of reaching 7,500 steps a day. 10k was created by the marketing department of a Japanese pedometer company…though greater volume will give greater benefit. I later started working to achieve 10 minutes in Zone 2 a day, achieved with my walking…but it’s gotten annoying difficult to get my heart rate up there (which I know is probably a good thing). I “ruck”, use ankle and hand weights, put my treadmill on a slight incline, and have to intermittently jog to maintain the zone
@@sanjam11, the only way to know your target for sure is to do a stress test with a doctor (basically running all-out to gauge your breathing and body stress), but there are estimators available online that get you close based on your age and other factors. Sorry I can’t help more than that!

honestly would love to see a video on rucking, aka walking with a load. I had prior injuries in back, shoulder, knees and ankles. most of my injuries have healed and have increased mobility. I can not only run again, i can run with 45lbs on my back without ankle or knee pain; i cannot believe it's even possible. also shedding weight like crazy. I suspect the slow impact walk caused an adaptation that healed my joints, strengthened my tendons and gained some muscle (my entire shin area, front and back has definition now) to the point I can now actively run. Only doing a 15min pace for now, but would honestly love to hear about it because all I've heard is negative things about how bad rucking is on the joints. It is completely opposite to my experience, I have been rucking for roughly 9 months went from .25 miles at like a 30 plus pace to now 4 miles at 15min pace and that's me not actively pushing just to be safe, it feels like a brisk jog.
@@Duck_DodgersThat because in the military they do it in boots, at high speed, for long distances. If you don't do it like that you won't have any injuries
Honestly, I walk anywhere between 7 to 10 miles a day at work. It helps my physical strength. Especially hitting the gym to do push ups pull ups crunches and squats right after
As a teenager, I've lost 15kg (33 lbs) in about 2 months, by walking twice a day for one hour each time. Granted, it's a lot of time for people working, and as a teen I had much more free time, but it does work. I've also done it outdoors, not on an indoor treadmill - no idea how much that contributed, but a physician in my family (who recommended the walks to me in the first place) had lost a ton of weight himself just by walking, and claimed that fresh air is a great contributor (might be true; might be false - I have no idea, but I've done it outdoors as he recommended, and has tremendous results).
Now I have a fenced in yard for my dog but for years I lived in apartments and had to take him out on long walks everyday after work. I was ripped as hell and my knee hurt everyday from him yanking on me every time he saw a squirrel.
Bought a walking pad recently and walk between an hour or two on my off days with a 12lb weighted vest and 5lb each ankle weights. Will be getting a 100lb eventually. Really feel my legs getting stronger
The most I walked ever was around 45km in a day, you just get sore if you are not use to walk so much then you will adapt but of course people don't do even 1km so 45km is some nightmare. On daily I make 20km which takes around 4half-5 hours
I've lost so much weight. My scale doesn't lie. What I wish I knew is how important it might have been to bulk first. Would walking and cal-deficit after two days of working out cause redirection of protein and carbs away from the muscle groups I worked out to just cardio?
Anytime you are exercising in a calorie deficit you run the risk of the body breaking down the proteins inside the muscles to use as fuel. If you wanted to try and keep muscle but lose fat, walking is a good option because of it's low intensity. But you could increase the odds of keeping muscle while losing fat by cycling your calorie intake, increasing calories on lifting days and decreasing calories on off days and doing your walking then. Also working out or walking in the mornings while fasted is a good way to burn some fat, then you can load some carbs and protein afterwards while the muscles are hungry for them.
I try walking for exercise and get bored, so I start running, get frustrated with my progress, and quit exercise altogether. I constantly repeat that on a 3-month cycle.
Lol, your not alone. Two toughest things about exercise is finding something you genuinely enjoy doing and then being consistent long enough for the results to come in. I do a lot of walking for exercise after injuries that keep me from doing other things. I get bored to so I put headphones in and listen to podcasts and audio books. That might help out if you've never tried it.

Hi..thanx for great info. Im wondering re gait, after accident and osteo in knees and hip l have difficulty feeling at ease walking .and pain and restrictions, how do l find someone who can help with the biomechanic and gait. You mentioned it very briefly at the end. I tried physio and chripractors but no good. Im in australia. Thank uou
There are online gait analysis services that will have you take a video of yourself walking and they will analyze it, like gaithappens.com or runlab. Though they can be a little on the pricey side sometimes. Local podiatrists can often help, though many of them are just looking to sell you shoe insoles, so you have to make sure its one that will do a real analysis. There's a lot of resources on youtube as well, if you wanted to go down the rabbit hole and try your hand at some self diagnosis. Best of luck, hope something works out for you.
That’s interesting that you mention proper walking structure to be heel first. I heard just the opposite (although I cannot tell you where I don’t remember 😅) I had heard we were meant to walk, or maybe I’m confusing it with running? On the balls of our feet. Anyways if anyone knows anything about this please lmk
Yea if your running barefoot you will automatically run on the balls of your feet because heel striking hurts like crazy at high speeds. I find if your walking barefoot on a really hard surface people will naturally walk on the balls of the feet too. But barefoot on something like grass and people will naturally heel strike.
Indian clubs are honestly are great way to rehab shoulders from almost any injury or issue, I would definitely recommend them. Also, and probably an even safer option in the beginning, slow and lightly weighted full range joint articulations. An amazing way to restore stability, mobility and connective tissue. Functional range conditioning is an organization that promotes this a lot, they are pretty expensive but I'm sure there is free material out there as well. Actually if you check out "thesuppleathlete" on instagram, I know he posts a lot of those exercises. Best of luck, hope this helps
Haven’t watched the video yet, but I was literally thinking about my step count a minute ago. Basically I walk a lot throughout my house while studying for college and as a result my step count is always really high. Averaging 9-10k steps daily, my question is: Would I still need to do some kind of run or targeted cardio workout to actually burn significant calories even after hitting 10k steps. I’m weighing 98 kilos currently and am essentially cutting.
You do not. The most important is a combination of diet and movement. Simply slowly keep improving in both areas. Of course if you run 10 hours a day and you barely eat anything you will lose more calories (combo of burning and simply not consuming them), but you will not be able to stick to it. If you want to you can simply start walking a little faster, and then introduce a 10 minute jog a week, take it slow and go from there, introduce some slowly progressive bodyweight exercise, some dancing, some whatever. Do what you enjoy! Just do what you want and keep changing. You do not have to do any specific thing, everything depends on your goals and your preferences, your journey.
@@maxd1744thanks for the reply, yep I’m losing the weight, cutting down fairly well. Extra hard cardio would probably just impact my sessions in the gym negatively. You’re right, thanks again man
No problem, happy to help! If you are already going to the gym you can get plenty cardio there, if you just superset if you are not already (eg after you do a set of rows , you do a set of push-ups without rest, then another set of rows, then push-ups etc.), you plan your entire session like this. You also get more work done in less time, win-win. You will find which supersets work and which do not, it does not matter that much anyway. @@brick245-x9
Walking is essential for keeping your muscles and skeletal structure in tact. Running or jogging is there if you need to burn fat in a fast pace. Weight lifting and walking is plenty to do. Don't exhaust yourself if you feel like you're doing all you can. But if you have the spare energy it won't hurt to go for a jog once in a while.
I can absolutely attest to this. I think it's called "neat weight loss" or something like that. I've been walking 10,000+ steps a day for the last 3 months and I have lost over 10 lbs of pure fat. My muscles size hasn't decreased a single bit. It's a very easy way of losing weight without putting your body through so much stress. I personally hate running/treadmill and all that intense workout. I just can't get myself to do it, but with walking and adjusting my caloric intake, it's been amazing.
I used to notice this on weekend trips to theme parks. I would eat all the worst food but I would lose body fat because I was walking 15,000 steps a day around the theme park.
@@moversodyssey I don't really eat bad food. I make all of my food at home from scratch. All healthy food, but I work from home and used to sit all day taking calls. I do have plenty of time between calls, sometimes up to 45 minutes. I work in my basement, so I figured why not just walk around the basement when I'm not working. Basement is big enough for the walk. Been pretty good so far.
Yes! Walking is such a cheat code for me. I don’t like high intensity workouts because I be crazy hungry after, and I don’t want to spend more money on food. But I think evolutionarily or something the body sees walking as regular. It doesn’t trigger its defense mechanisms. So while I’m increasing my output, I don’t really feel the need to increase my input. Idk if that makes sense or has any basis in reality.
@@birdiewolf3497 It's 100% true, walking is largely what we are designed for so it's really easy on the body. Unless the body has been really messed up over the years by injuries or terrible posture. We're also designed to full squat as a resting position and to have really great shoulder mobility, but unfortunately so many people have lost this.
@@moversodyssey yeah, I feel like the modern world is lowkey very anti human. And so many problems pop up because we are so disconnected from our humanity. Like we are built to walk a lot. That’s hundreds of thousands of years of evolution that we are ignoring. And it’s like that with so many different things. But then we wonder why our health trash and we feel like shit. But yeah, walking is so underrated, despite how essential it is.
I walk around 15,000 steps every day of my job. Would I still benefit from intentional walking outside of work because my feet hurt all the time and I've been looking for something I can do
It's possible you could still benefit but I wouldn't do it if your feet are hurting. No point adding more stress to the feet if they are already struggling. I've always had trouble with walking and standing on concrete all day in particular, always hurt my feet. It's possible you might get some benefit from barefoot walking in grass, or doing the same with minimalist shoes. It's softer on the feet but will start working the muscles of the feet in new ways. Barefoot walking often corrects arch problems and makes the feet more resilient. You could also do swimming or stationary bike to give the feet a break all together. Also the kettlebell swings don't utilize the muscles of the feet other than for standing on them. Anyway, best of luck
Oh yea, you could also lightly step on a golf or tennis ball and move it around to massage the bottom of your arches, this corrects foot pain for a lot of people. Sometimes they just need a little help recovering.
Dude. Get better shoes. I had feet issues caused by crap shoes 15 years ago when I worked big box retail. The injuries will travel upwards and working in a physically demanding job, I managed to mess up my back by ignoring the warning signs
@@Jjohnny642 I got some high-end shoes actually because I was thinking the same thing. Not even got three pairs and I rotate them every day. A different brands to stimulate the foot in different ways, but also to support the foot in different ways and I'm still having issues of probably need to see a podiatrist
If you already walk a lot and your still not where you want to be, it's time to look at diet and/or hormones. There are different body types and some people react better to hormone altering exercises like swings, sprints or heavy lifts and others who react well to low intensity calorie burning exercise. It's also common for some people to swell up with lots of water retention from sugar (especially sugary drinks) or lots of excess simple carbs in general. Hard to say what might work best for you, but experiment with various things and see what starts yielding results. Best of luck
Just came back from a walk. Although I do not need a different body composition at all. Body recomp is simple, but not easy for most. Slowly change diet to vegetables, fruits, good protein sources. So. obviously no processed foods at all, educate yourself about food. but do not overcomplicate. Also, walk/move couple hours a day. Slowly build up to this, so you can stick with it. If you do not have the time, try to do what you can. All improvements are amazing. If you improve daily for a decade you will not believe the results. Also stop the "new years resolution" bull shit, start now!
I walk 10-26 miles every single day on top for 60-150 minutes of high intensity weight training. I’ve been in a 1,750 calorie deficit for a while; losing half a pound daily.
By all means, do walk as much as you can muster the energy and time for, but if you want to lose weight you have to stop eating crap and overindulging with food. End of. Think of food as fuel and not as a replacement for whatever is missing in your life. Good food will sustain you for longer and you’ll feel less cravings for eating all the time. It really is that simple for most metabolisms.

I have noticed that once I approach a healthy minimum weight I want to eat more but this is probably a good thing and shows my body knows what it’s doing.

I loved walking since a child- I need at least 4/5 miles to feel okay for the day. Even, in rain/snow. Need my walking

I think the biggest benefit from walkin is just blood flow, many illness comes from lack of good circulation,if u dont have good circulation aka blood flow your cells, organs everythin doesnt get supply of nutrients and oxygen and sickness is inevitable..nowadays most of the health and beauty treatmens are actually focusin on improvin blood flow but the best way to do that is free and available to all of us..my routines is 2 or 3 20 to 30min brisk walks daily plus workin out..without that we just cant be healthy especialy after 30
It’s almost as if the majority of health issues arise when we stop moving! A slow animal is a dead animal in the wild and humans are no different!

Yay! Glad to see you address walking.
Walking is about the only exercise I'm willing to do, honestly.
Well, ya lazy
I was like you but 3 weeks ago I started by walking now I do cardio, pilates and a little bit strengthening workout, it feels so good after every workout. I do each of them in separate day with two days rest. I lost 5kg. My body feels so flexible and I love that.
I changed my diet a year ago, lost 10kg, then plateaued (kept the diet tho), then didnt care anymore, then with the same diet tried to lose weight again, stopped smoking which also improved my sleep and walking 30-40 min each day at 4-5 km/h around 3 weeks ago and lost literally nothing. Dunno what else to do
@@wtfholymoly5093 30-40 minute walking with that speed is nothing.
It’s the simplest way. I do a minimum of 10,000 per day. Shed 3 stone in just a year. It’s so easy on a treadmill in winter or the fields in Summer,
They say that you can't out-exercise a poor diet, but if you count your calories (for instance using an app) AND add walking on top, results will be incredible given the low effort.
Intermittent fasting is a great tool, even helps recalibrate insulin sensitivity which is such a huge contributor to weight gain.

I “ruck”, use ankle and hand weights, put my treadmill on a slight incline, and have to intermittently jog to maintain the zone

honestly would love to see a video on rucking, aka walking with a load.

I walked 522 miles this year. Looking to increase that next year
As a teenager, I've lost 15kg (33 lbs) in about 2 months, by walking twice a day for one hour each time.
Just wants you thankyou .

I got a dog and thats how ive lost a lot of weight. He holds me accountable (and tears my house up if i dont take him out😂
Now I have a fenced in yard for my dog but for years I lived in apartments and had to take him out on long walks everyday after work. I was ripped as hell and my knee hurt everyday from him yanking on me every time he saw a squirrel.

I gotta ask, was that Johnny Bravo at 2:40? XD
Lol, certainly is.
I saw you have a runner sticker in your store. You need a walker sticker too.
I always suggest to people to start walking more if they want to lose weight
Such an inspirational video. I always come here when I need motivation ❤
Great suggestion. I listen to podcasts and audiobooks in my car on the way to/from work, and I’m often frustrated with having to stop when I arrive.
I lost 150lbs and kept it off just by walking a lot and a portion control diet.

Long distance walking is perfect for humans.
do you have any advice for how to build back up to shoulder mobility and eventually weights after an anterior shoulder dislocation.

Awesome video man!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Haven’t watched the video yet, but I was literally thinking about my step count a minute ago.
Basically I walk a lot throughout my house while studying for college and as a result my step count is always really high.
Averaging 9-10k steps daily, my question is:
Would I still need to do some kind of run or targeted cardio workout to actually burn significant calories even after hitting 10k steps.
Thank you!

Does walking help with blood sugar and diabetes?
I'm a dog walker, so I walk a lot everyday. How can I reach my goals a bit better?
