Good thing you tested. Im just reading a book about a farmer who had to sue Dupont. They were dumping chemicals even from the 50s when making Teflon. It is said we all have this chemical in our bodies now. It took 20 years for a class action suit. There was a movie made on this true story called dark waters. The metal in the water is a result of particulates in the air. Those particulates accumulate and are bound up in the rain drops. Has nothing to do with the metal devices in your system. Its directly proportional to the air quality in your region. I'd definitely recommend putting the reverse osmosis filter in your drinking water, just for the peace of mind if for no other reason than that.

Stupid me, I agreed to hook up to town water cap my artesian well and now in May 2023 I'm sorry I ever listened to the water department and should have kept my well. Since you're drinking rain water, the metal may be coming from power plants and factories. The main cause of mercury content in Florida lakes is due to atmospheric deposition. The exhaust from factories and power plants contains metals which are carried into the atmosphere, then they are released and fall to earth when it rains. These factories are required to scrub their exhaust to get rid of the metals, but it is not 100 percent.Maybe something like that is happening with rain water in your area

I’m so glad you mentioned about regular city water because we have a water softener in south Florida and it’s the most wonderful thing. Your bathroom doesn’t get soap scum just like your skin doesn’t get that dry soap scum feel you’re just slippery and smooth and your hair is wonderful. I highly recommend a water softener system to everybody.

    I'm a builder from the U.K.
I love what you're doing, it's great on so many levels.
A quick question, which may lead to a solution:
What metals are present in the samples?
If your roof is tin, and tin is showing up in the samples....
    Likewise for the other components.
You can reverse engineer out where the problems come from.
    I hope you fo,low me.
The problems will be worse if your rain is slightly acidic or alkaline.
This wil minutely dissove the metals into solution.
Unless there is an obvious source from industry.
These can be hundreds of miles away, and still effect your water.
I hope this may help you.
Many thanks for the time you dedicate to TH-cam.
    We appreciate it.
Al, the best from Cornwall England 🙂👍

I got my water tested once. After sticker shock of paying the bill, I decided that buying and maintaining a reverse osmosis filter was cheaper than getting annual water testing done. Also for stuff like coliform testing, you've got to transport your water to a lab within 24 hours for the test to be valid. It was still incredibly informative and I was relieved to know I didn't have any heavy metal contamination. But seriously, RO filters have gotten way cheaper than they used to be.

Seeing your bird feeder, did you know you can order a bird house that you can attach to your window? You can see inside but the birds can't see you. That way the kids can watch the birds build their nest, lay eggs, and see the baby birds grow up after they hatch, and the birds will never know.

To make the water safe,,, I found a survey done in the 1960s in Europe, They were asking why some wells were always good wells, and other wells were sometimes good, sometimes bad... Cholera being one of the bad... They found two things in all those 'always good' wells. At least one Roman Copper coin, and at least one Roman Silver coin. When I created my rain water capture, I added pieces of pure silver, and some copper rounds... 10 years ago... no problems...

Metal particles always get picked up by rain water on roof and gutters. It worsens over years. If you have the right filtration to reduce, you will be okay. Plastic particles do the same over time.
Frustrating door keeps failing. The mfg may not have to tooling to make or the knowledge to make a jig to customize. It all starts with the hole you cut.
    Enjoy your long weekend.

We have a 20k gallon rainwater system and we did the same test you guys did. We also have most of the same filter components as you, spin down filter, 5 micron, pelican carbon filter and UV light. We have all pvc and pex A except for the pump, check valve etc but, we do have a 20k gallon tank with a liner in it. Our score was 56 which is 2 points below national average but 10 points above the Oklahoma average. We did our test 2 months after the system was setup and we are going to do another test in a year to see if it improves. The water is safe and tastes great, I just thought like you guys did that it would be more pristine. FYI we also have a new 300' well that we use for everything outside the house and it only came in at 37 which is below the Oklahoma average. I highly suggest viewers getting your water source tested no matter where you get water from.

We've been drinking rainwater from a pond for 22 years. It's great! Pond water systems are common around here where the well water is sulferized, really crappy tasting and hard on plumbing. We have building codes to abide by and our system consists of a floating pond filter (filter 3 feet below the surface) to catch the big stuff, a five micron initial filter and one micron final filters. In addition, thre is a sand filter, a charcoal filter and an iodine injection system that put about .9 ppm iodine into the water just ahead of a pair of 400 gallon "soak" tanks to kill any bacteria. We test the water about every other year and haven't failed a test yet.

It’s easy to forget the air we breath contains metal particulates that rain washes out of the air ending up in any rain water collected. No surprises here, you have excellent water. Fourth time is generally “fabulous”. Of course you can buy a standard exterior door and hang it yourself! But, pre-hung doors are so much easier.
