There's no reason this movie should be as good as it was. After that many sequels, then making a legacy sequel and it being this heart felt, this sincere and moving. And this well acted - I doubt many people would argue at Tessa Thompson or Michael B Jordan's acting skills, but Stallone is honestly criminally under rated.
i mean he is the only one who got an oscar nomination out of it.
Underrated? I dunno about that. Other than ppl who like Stallone the person. As an actor he's played the same guy in every movie he's been in I think. I'm not stranger to liking bad actors. I love Seagal, he's hilarious...but I'd never call him underrated. Stallone didn't act in this movie. He memorized lines.

@@i360pindrop I can. But that's not very humble. So I'll say this. I don't mean to diss the guy, his era of actor were measured differently than say Johnathon Majors. Actors today are expected to disappear in their roles. Stallone was expected to be Stallone. But I attribute his success to his public persona and likeability (to his target audience).

15:59 August 2015 I lost my grandfather due to a stroke in the brain stem. I was out from football practice for two weeks spending time in the hospital as the docs tried different treatment options.
I ran up and down the stairs, did Pushups in the waiting room, everything I could to stay in shape and get my head right. And every single nurse, doctor, and PA I passed on the stairs cheered me on.
Seeing these moments in the film really got to me, because it reminded me of that time in my life.

It's also just a real life thing. Unsure if there's any actual proof/science behind it but the belief is that you *Jawn* before a fight, or a big game, or any strenous sporting activity, you lose testosterone that's in your body and it puts you at a disadvantage.
Its just a widely known idea that sex before a match will wear your legs out. There's more too it but that's all the scene was trying to convey that everyone involved knew what he meant.
They actually reference the "women weaken legs" line in Creed 2 verbatim

One of my favourite details in this film is that Adonis has both his surnames on his shorts
You know I never even considered how guarded Rocky must have become after getting betrayed by Tommy Gunn in Rocky V until you brought it up. Sure Adonis is Apollo's son, but Rocky's been burned by a lot of people so it would make sense why it took him visiting Adrian to move him forward with helping Adonis train.
Two semesters ago, I took a screenwriting course about how to write characters and character arcs. This was one of the movies shown for it.
I'm a 51 year old Marine. I grew up with Rocky movies.

The final shot with the two of them at the top of the museum steps looking out at Philadelphia together with Ludwig’s score playing…it’s somehow still my favorite moment in this movie which is full of amazing moments.
And the preceding walk up the stairs too. All the times we’ve seen Rocky sprint up those steps, and this was by far the most inspiring time because of what it represents. The fight Rocky had to undergo in this movie made every other opponent he’s ever faced seem like nothing by comparison.
I saw this movie in the cinema and by the end of the final fight I was exhausted on my seat, sweating and breathing heavily, I might as well have fought on that ring, that's when I realized that this movie caught the essence of the old Rocky movies, I just hope and prey that for Creed 3 even without Stallone on it they still respect Rocky legacy...

When it all culminates in that Rocky pep talk and Adonis says he wants to prove he isn't a mistake, it gives me chills and a tear to the eye every time.
It hit a lot of men and women right in the feels. The feeling that we need to prove that we were put here for a reason. And that we have to do something great to prove it.

It is something very special that we get to enjoy a series maturing like this. Stallone is bringing something new and different to Rocky and its not only setting up a future for the series its also still being a role model to the fans who have grown with him. I am a mentor now, and my mentee means this much to me and I don't think I can express it this beautifully so I admire this version of Rocky.
I'm a big fan of boxing movies, and have watched most all of them many, many times over the last 40 years. Creed probably did it the best. It certainly stands on some great shoulders, and the history it borrows boosts it in ways it wouldn't have on its own. But damn it delivers on every scene. Never a cheesy misstep, never a scene out of place. Everyone is a full character. The drama plays out exactly as the filmmaker wanted. I "believe" it more than even most of the other Rocky films. Belongs at or near the top of greatest sports/inspirational movies of all time. Thanks for doing this one.
What are your thoughts on Raging Bull?

@@lukepier9736 As a boxing movie, Raging Bull is perhaps more accurate and honest about the fate of many boxers. It's a particular type of character study, and De Niro puts on a great show.
Overall, I prefer Creed. But I don't fault anyone for preferring Raging Bull or arguing it belongs higher. Similar arguments are made for Rocky (1 and 2).
Crying Fist is a great boxing movie. You might enjoy it.

Rocky Balboa & Creed are both great movies. Stallone has gotten better with age & Jordan is incredible. Watching this makes me want to watch those two movies again.
One thing that's amazing about Creed is that it respects what came before it as a spinoff sequel. Continuing a legacy name out of respect rather than tearing down what came before it to prop up what's new. I gotta revisit these movies and then see 3.

(I know Chuck Wepner was the inspiration Sylvester Stallone used to write Rocky but hear me out on this)
Joe's from Philly, he worked in a slaughterhouse so he trained by actually punching meat, and he use to run the steps at the museum. He beat Muhammad Ali (The inspiration for Apollo Creed,) and he was known for having the most heart in the ring. Even when George Foreman knocked him down several times, he kept getting up. He's Rocky.
The chemo stuff is too real. You have good days, bad days, and days that you wish had never happened. You can fight hard and still lose. Ultimately though you cling to the stuff that makes you feel "normal" the best you can. My dad worked on cars until the neuropathy made it too hard.
You make every effort to do things that fill your life with something worthwhile. It's the space between the beats that you find matters most.
Man this movie hits me differently now.
I'm surprised you didn't give wins to Conlan's amazing entrance, or even more for the Leo Sporino fight. The way the camera was right up in the action making you feel a part of it, and I've never noticed stereo sound that clear before, with every sound source clearly coming from an appropriate depth and relative position to the camera/Adonis' head.

This movie brought me to tears SEVERAL times. Sly is so massively underrated an actor and writer, it's borderline criminal. I honestly would pay to see you do everything great about every single Rocky movie, because every single one of them (yes, even Rocky V) have something wonderful to talk about.
19:35 As an adopted kid, with great parents, that make moment make me cry every time and makes the movie for me. Even with them, due to a bunch of internal and personal stuff, it feels like that sometime.
I relate to characters like Peter Parker and Clark Kent for similar reasons, but hearing this felt different, huge, and needed. Whatever Creed 3 holds, this will still probably wind up feeling like the best in the series, the whole series, for me

1. 2:40 The light heavyweight division is usually paper thin so the record and Donnie being able to knock him out is believable enough 😭
2. 2:54 Danny Wheeler is played by former 2 weight division world champion and hall of famer and one of my most favorite fighters out all time Andre Ward. And that was his real record when he retired

4. 5:13 Leo Sporino is played by 26W-16L warrior Gabriel Rosado. One of my faves, he's never won a title unfortunately but he's a DAWG, has an amazing resume despite the losses and always puts on a show. I've never met anyone that dislikes him.

Gabe Rosado who fights with Donnie in this "one take battle" actually said that they filmed the fight few times, everytime was a "one take".
This film is an absolute masterpiece in filmmaking. Everything from Ryan Coogler's brilliant direction, the beautiful performances from Jordan and Stallone, the phenomenal cinematography, and the fantastic musical score! I can't get enough of how amazing this film is!
That cycle training montage does it for me all the time. This is a great movie.
The final scene, at the top of the steps, really hit me. Feels like Donny and Rock leaving room for creed; father, son and father figure. Losing your dad, barely knowing him (or not at all) leaves a huge gap, but they’re still a part of you.

I sadly missed out on the Creed films when they first came out, because around 2015-2018, I had to cut down on cinemagoing for a bit for financial reasons. It's been a treat catching up recently and I can't wait for Creed 3.

It’s not a movie and it doesn’t stick with it too long, but the first season of the anime Megalobox starts on a similar premise - underground boxer who knows he’s better than where he is taking dives in fixed matches. Not fully what you’re looking for but it’s a damn good boxing show, I’d recommend it
should've had a win for the ring walks, Adonis walking to tupac All Eyes On Me to show this is the biggest moment of his career and Conlan coiming out with a guy blowing flames like; like a knight facing off a dragon holy fuck that scene gave me chills

I was watching this thinking "both Jordan and Thompson have been in the MCU. That's kinda cool." And then I realized, wait, crap, *so has Stallone* because the MCU is all-encompassing, all-powerful, and no one can escape its grasp.
I just watched this movie recently for the first time, without ever having seeing the Rocky films prior, and even I absolutely loved it despite not liking movies as of late. I literally cried four times for the first movie, then four more times for what I've seen of the second movie so far. One of the most amazing movies I have ever seen if not the single greatest.

I think boxing and other combat sports definitely should exist, but I get what you’re saying. People have died and gotten hurt, of course, but action is emotion. Violence and martial arts are how we express cultural values and are a (mostly) safe way to express emotions. There’s a TTRPG I’m playing called Gubat Banwa that’s really good with this. Great video, though. I love this movie
And You Thought It Would Fail: When the film was first announced, many fans were less-than-enthusiastic, saying that Rocky Balboa had been a perfect send-off for the series and that this film would likely be a poor follow-up. As it turned out, it garnered even more critical acclaim than Rocky Balboa and made back its budget in its first weekend alone. It also brought an Oscar nomination for Stallone, his first since the original Rocky.

From the first movie I've ever seen him in to now, watching Stallone become a master of his craft makes me feel this weird sense of pride. I can't explain it but I know that's what I feel. Here's to one of the most underrated actors out there.
The thing is, also, a lot of managers DO book their fighters in fights they think they can win and they gradually increase the difficulty. They’ll never put their fighter in a fight with someone that’ll completely outclass them.
As a martial artist, boxing among my arts, it’s about confidence. Most fights are won because you’re confident things will go your way. Plus, there are some fighters whose egos are way high. They lose, and they’re not a fighter anymore. They’re someone in shape that can throw punches.
There’s a major philosophy that every fighter and martial artist has. There’s a difference.
I remember when I first watched this, there was a serious lack of interest. Nobody was talking about it and I was like, I think this is going to be good. After I saw it I was telling everyone to watch, I was bringing it up when it had nothing to do w/ the previous conversation.

Watching Rocky Balboa got me into the Rocky movies when I was younger cause I was always the underdog when it came to sports. I ran cross country and track and I always tried my best but I got beat because I didn't have that natural talent. But knowing that no matter how hard I kept getting beat, I knew I always had the chance to get back up and try again like Rocky. Also Creed and Rocky Balboa both made me cry so there's that too. I always appreciate the kind of motivation that makes you want to be better you than before instead of being the best.
I consider this a perfect sequel. Ryan Coogler absolutely nailed everything. Showed so much respect while also introducing new characters and stakes. This is the benchmark for how to return to an established franchise.
PLEASE do everything great about the first 3 Rocky movies!

i also think the commitment to philly artists for the soundtrack deserved a win, and more of an la focus in the second movie.
Speaking as a huge boxing fan, most trainers would only agree to keeping the fight going as long as that's what their fighter wants, and even then some won't risk it. Joe Frazier's corner forced him to quit during his last match with Muhammad Ali, even though he insisted on continuing. But he became completely blind in the fight because his only seeing eye became so swollen he couldn't see, so his trainers knew he'd be screwed.

Rocky is probably my favorite film character of all time. No character hits me in the heart like good ol Rocko. When he says "You're a Creed, and I love ya kid" I freakin' bawl like a baby every single time.

Love the channel man but I gotta say I’ve trained in combat sports they aren’t as dangerous as you think. Basketball weight lifting even cycling have just as many injuries if not more then fighting sports. No shade just trying to spread the positive side of boxing it should definitely exist because weirdos like me find it to be the only fun sport. Lol 😂 again love the channel bro keep it up.

Lemme just stop you right there don’t try and take away the blood sports. It never goes right for one and as much as we like to tout how “advanced we are” there’s likely always gonna be something about two or more people, or groups, at their peak duking it out to see who’s on top that appeals to us. For some it’s not always physical sports necessarily but there will likely always be the need/desire to see/be involved in that that will exist. It’s the same reason we like sword fighting space battles and all that stuff.
I’d rather wish that we could be advanced in medicine enough that any injuries sustained could be healed after the fight than wish it didn’t exist.
I love all the Rocky/Creed films, they’re all so inspiring no matter what. But the one thing that bugged me about the character of Adonis is, Apollo seriously had an affair towards the end of his life and had a bastard as a result? Idk why but that kinda tarnished how cool and inspirational Apollo was. Well, to me at least. Also, he and Mary Anne had kids (shows them in Rocky II), but they strangely aren’t even acknowledged in these new films. That being said, I still love the character and the films and can’t wait for the third one next week.

Being cool and inspirational doesn't make someone infallible. Everyone stumbles and has moments of weakness. Some worse than others.
In a way, this went step for step with the OG Rocky only this one had Creed's son getting the attention of the champ after he tried so hard to keep his true lineage a secret. (In the modern age we live in where the average person is a paparazzi just cause they have a phone with a camera, yeah. Luck with that one.) What I loved about this one was how they leaned into the lineage well without overdoing it. How organic the relationship between Adonis and Rocky grew with time and it wasn't just immediate.
Creed 2 served as a super nice postmortem on the events of Rocky IV and I'll wax poetic about it next week. I think it's more emotionally gripping than this one was, for a lot of different reasons. I also like the way it blended something from Rocky 2 and meshed it perfectly with something that went down in Rocky 4. Oh speaking of, finding out who won that third fight in Creed filled in the blank as to why Apollo took the exhibition with Ivan. Rocky sorta kinda spelled out why he lost it apart from being across the ring from a PED enhanced Russian cyborg in human form throwing haymakers at him.
Loved this movie, loved the second and excited to see where they take it for the third movie. (Hopefully it's the finale.)

At this point in his life, Rocky *knows* he should've stopped the fight that killed Apollo. Likely Apollo never would've spoken to him again, but that would be a small price to not have to live with the guilt

Rocky has fought all his life these external fights, Creed, Clubber, Drago. Now his cancer diagnosis says that he has an internal fight, and something that he can't legitimately punch his way out of, as he's done with his whole life. He isn't giving up, he's legitimately scared of THIS fight, because it's out of his control.
To me, the coolest coincidence in the Creed films is how much Michael B. Jordan looks like Carl Weathers. It’s gotta be the mustache!

I was watching The Office compilations, and my wifi's terrible right now. So when this video showed up in my recommendations, for a split second, the thumbnail loaded in as Creed from The Office.

While I have yet to watch Creed on my own time, I just got to give a shout out to Ryan coogler in general. the dude just knows how to make a damn good movie.

I've lost count of how many times I watched Creed, and his final training montage still gives me chills in the good place in my brain whenever it comes on.
I really love the boxing stats they would throw up in the first film, and wish they kept that Japanese media trope in the sequels.
