Gracie, I think this is my first time ever comment on yt. I want to point out that your tutorials are just perfect. Your admirable combination of striking mathematical logic, knocking everything down to its core and providing the harmonic context all of this leads to is just a pleasure to watch! I wish 10% of my own musical education had been that good. Not to forget your lovely presentation style, always with a smile… Keep going!

Theory was so intimidating to me, the ego decided it was unnecessary. Consequently, my creativity suffered. Your pedagogical style makes these concepts as simple as Blues Clues. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing how easy it can be to understand the language of music. 🙏🏾

Ms Gracie, you really have a brilliant way to unpack and unwrap these concepts. So many teachers fail to provide these kinds of "keys" to unlock theory, which can be so confusing. For example, your little sidebar on analyzing that V7 totally opens to the door to knowing how to identify any chord quality we see, even the strange and squirrely ones that some charts manage to put up. Simply brilliant!, as huge thanks.

Hi Gracie: I am a 70 year old trying to be a guitar player, aka musician, lol. I have an aunt in Ca. Who is 100yrs old. and still kicking, who played guitar back in the day for Gene Autry. I was wondering how hard it was to learn the Pentatonic Scalles back in the day, when it was just acoustic guitar and with no electric guitars hadn't been invented yet.If I can get thru to her I should be able to find out. By the way, you have a beautiful voice
. So don't strain unnecessarily. BYE.

I often watch your videos for memory reinforcement. I usually understand what you're explaining but it never hurts to hammer it in my brain a little further. And when it's a topic I'm less familiar with I usually come away with a better if not complete understanding. You're the best!

    Dear Gracie
This lesson was very helpful, I understood everything you explain, but now is to put it in my brain.
I always wanted to be able to transpose correctly, could never do it.
You helped me a lot, things got a little bit clearer now
I am gonna listen to this lesson e few more times, and for the first time I think that I will download your sheets beneath, what you recommended so often.
To be able to file everything properly so that I can put it in my brain the right way.
Your way of teaching is very good the best I have ever seen, sometimes you talk a little too fast, but then I just stop the video.
But your voice is crystal clear and beautiful.
And it fits exactly to your face.
    Thank you for this lesson.
    Carlos

I see why you’re a good teacher. You are very intuitive about guessing where you think people may get confused. Many teachers just plow right through and I think they just assume that people will pick up on everything automatically….Everytime you stopped to clarify something, it was always at a point where I got confused…but importantly, you knew right when to reel it in before you allowed yourself to fall down the rabbithole and go off on an unrelated tangent….bravo…

Understanding the language of music really is making it much more enjoyable and fun for me. Things that would throw me off before. Make so much sense as I learn the basic rules. I know there are no rules when it comes to being creative. But it helps to have the basic ingredients in there . Then add in the spices to create your own flavor.

Gracie, I could give you a huge hug!!! I have knowledge of music theory from watching TH-cam and playing instruments , but I was still missing pieces to the puzzle. I live near Eastman School of Music and wanted to finally really study music theory, but I didn’t want to take the 101 course since I already know the circle of 5ths etc, because of your wonderful teaching style, the way you go step by step I can now take there entrance exam and go into music theory 102. I love Jazz and this is where you see the numbers and symbols, my piano teacher couldn’t explain this to me 😢 and suggested I take a theory class 😮. After your video I can now go to the piano and play the 2 5 1 progression in every key. This video was like turning on a light in a dark room! Finally I found the lost puzzle piece through your teaching and now I can see the picture! Thank you so much for all these videos, you are so appreciated!

Seriously the best music teacher I’ve seen on TH-cam! I’ve never thought of the theory of using the Root scale to build the diatonic chords. Always thought of it as the 2nd and 3rd scale degrees are minor so remember the notes in those specific chords, not that those notes are the notes in the root scale.

Your explanation of how the minor and minor 7th chords are related to the notes in the key of each note allowed me to better understand how chords are formed. I made a grid with the notes of each key represented vertically beneath the notes in the key of C. This showed me which notes in each scale had to be flattened to align that scale with the key of C. The pattern of flattening notes results in the I-ii-iii-IV-V-vi-vii sequence. Thank you.

Another great lesson, Gracie! You explain music theory so well. Yours are the best I have found on TH-cam. Thank-you! BTW, it helped me to make an Excel spreadsheet with multiple tables of all 15 keys and the diatonic chords in each one. I made one spreadsheet each for the Major, Natural Minor, Harmonic Minor, and Melodic Minor diatonic chords in a single workbook. They also include the 7th note for 7th chords. It helped me understand why some chords are majors, some are minors, some are diminished, etc.

So sweet. It's all interconnected(woven). I taught My S/O: 1st learn Maj C, F, & G. She won't do scales-just TABS. Now Ms Gracie demo's the Ab Diatonics(sounds like a health regime) Eureka: all else are flatted. C,F&G remain the same.
