Ryan Reynolds nailed this entire scene without saying a word. He conveyed the brokenness of a man who lost so much because of the bureaucracy and politics. Take a bow.
Laughing at the efforts of the people outside trying to save someone who doesn't deserve it, while crying for all the friends he lost because of that person. This scene is one of my favorite movie endings of all time.
Yes, it's one of the few roles he's played that he's not just playing Ryan Reynolds, he really is a great actor and even though he's very loved I do wish people appreciated his acting more.
I still remember seeing this in theatres... It was the moment of my life when I realized a composers music can have the utmost impact on a scene or... an entire film. Clint Mansell unsung hero of this film.(Great movie too, honestly.)
Lmao a hero? The fool risked the lives of his own team by not taking cover when a .50 cal sniper was aiming at their heads from miles away at the other hotel building. But no lets just allow our dumbass agents shoOT aimlessly througha fucking window ON THE 20th floor with pistols and shotguns possibly hurting the lives of people who are in their hotel rooms of the other building. Hes a moron..... but other than that... GOOD MOVIE
+Kitty Kat No. No you're not. This is an excellent movie. I've heard so many bad things about Smokin' Aces 2 that I refuse to watch it for the sole reason of not tarnishing the first movie. lol. And Clint Mansell's "Dead Reckoning" was such a perfect song for the suspenseful ending!
True. Audiences seem to like multiple storylines these days. The movie was frenetic, maybe some better execution but still, great film nonetheless. Now that Ryan Reynolds is a greater actor, I bet this movie could have been a blockbuster.

in this moment of the movie you can truly see the raw emotion of someone who is set on bringing justice not to his friend but shutting down the corrupted around him. it's a beautifully orchestrated ending. the song and acting are A++++
This was one of the best endings ever for a movie. The internal battle he is going through while in that room and then you have this amazing song by Clint Mansell. Just freaking awesome!! I have replaced this ending over and over and over again for years and i get chills every time. Ryan Reynolds did an amazing job in this movie and this movie is very underrated.
You could read the internal dialogue as he asked himself what is right and who should pay for his friends life. Not one spoken word after he told his boss "okay", but his acting spoke so much.
This gets me every time. I remember seeing this in the theaters and I was blown away with this scene. Ryan Reynolds needs to get back to this kind of acting. I love his funny stuff, but man can he pull off the dramatic roles!
Undeniably one of the best movie endings. The music played a major role also in highlighting the growing intensity of the scene. Sometimes it's just ART. And, oh yeah...the look in eyes said it all.
Ryan Reynolds doesn't get enough credit for being a frickin awesome actor. He was astonishingly good in Smokin' Aces and Safe House. I suppose some of it is typecasting - Van Wilder For Life, apparently - and some of it is that he is a blackbelt-level smartass - most directors say that his funniest lines were things he ad-libbed on the spot - but *DAMN* can he act when he wants to. I had no opinion of him before Smokin' Aces, now I watch everything he is in hoping for more awesomeness.
One of the Most Underrated Films Ever! One of the Craziest Twist Endings Ever! One of The Best Casts, Stories, Dramas, Action, Crime, Thrillers Ever! As Good As State of Play but much crazier and more violent!
Such an underrated movie. And Ryan Reynolds in a serious role shows he's not just a funny guy with masterful timing, he nails every emotion of this scene without saying a fucking word. The way he goes from just empty to instantly defiant the moment the agents realize what he's doing and try to break in....amazing.
Watched this movie with my dad and it instantly became my favorite movie. I can't believe I went so many years without watching this movie. The music is what I love the most about the ending
My first real introduction to Ryan Reynolds was just friends and waiting and i thought "oh he's a good comedic actor" and then i saw this and fell in love with his serious roles as well. He's one of my favorite actors even before he was deadpool. I won't even lie. I got a man crush lol
One of my favorite performances from Ryan Reynolds, I think he’s so amazing with dramatic roles, more than even Ryan would give himself credit for. I wish he’d take on more of these roles than constantly portraying typecast comedic characters that are similar to his popular work as Deadpool.

This scene is poetic. At the end, an FBI agent finished the job where the rest failed and died. It's heartbreaking that his partner died for nothing while the FBI protects his ass. I can't blame him for killing Primo and Israel, he did the most honorable thing. The movie came out in the wrong time, if the movie was released today and now that Ryan Reynolds is a big star, the movie could have been a blockbuster and had a better reception. Interesting, today's audiences seem to like multiple storylines. Either way, the movie needed to be longer, but it's a great film. Well crafted and had insane violence and nice dark humor.
I just noticed something pretty mind-boggling: When we see them die, Buddy's entire body (hehe, made a rhyme) twitches violently, but Primo/Heller just slowly limps down, almost as if the latter's body accepted this death willingly. I think it shows Messner pretty much helped putting him out of his misery.
Or he was moments from deaths before this and only artistically alive, so when the machines stopped, he stopped. Spasms and convulsions are normal in the dead who shouldn’t be, their brain is still functioning because it takes a minute to realize we have a gigantic hole in us and blood flow is over and life has ended. But those leftover neurons fire and sometimes a body moves, you are in catastrophic failure mode. As much as I’d love the beauty of that which you posted, it’s an undeniable NO.
Amazing scene, shout out to the amazing Clint Mansell for the fire music and Ryans perfect performance the editors and on set personam perfectly in time with the score. Cinematic perfection
I remember Smokin' Aces being one of the first films that really got to me.. this scene and Reynold's performance when he realises their betrayal is gut-wrenching, and Clint Mansell's final track stayed with me for what seems like forever.. devastatingly powerful.
Great acting in this scene... awesome ending, track is perfect for it... the raw emotion on his face, the s.o.b part played brilliantly by Andy Garcia.... perfect ending to a awesome movie... sad part is,it doesnt get nowehere near the recognition it truly deserves..
Reynolds is SO underrated in this movie, and especially in this scene. Come on... And then the moment he gets out the gun... For a second you think he's gonna end his life, but no. Bam, empty the chamber,... put it down with a "IDGAF" face. Man... Give this man an award already.. You can literally FEEL the pain!
When I think about the police and eveything's that's going on lately, a little hope comes to my heart when I watch the final scene of Smokin' Aces and how Ryan Reynolds as Agent Messner is so perfectly broken by the corrupted system and yet, he succeeds with rebellion.. One of the best endings in history, definitely.
