    I like these Vinyl Renaissance vids. People are so PASSIONATE about it! Know what's magical about it? It cannot really be quantified, why an analog recording on vinyl sounds better than on CD. CD has enough steps that the digital recording *should* be indistinguishable from analog. But it isn't. Just like speakers that can reproduce frequencies higher and lower than the human ear can hear sound better than those that don't. Humans are analog, and we have special ways of feeling music.

      @Smaug1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Çerastes Not necessarily. CDs have better bass response, since they're not limited by how big of a variation there is in the groove. Records have an upper frequency response that tapers off and doesn't cut off until 60 kHz. CDs have a sharp cutoff at 22 kHz, due to the sampling frequency. Theoretically, we can only hear up to about 20 kHz, but there is some other way we can sense those ultra-high frequencies, because cymbals sound better on vinyl.
      But the other 98% of the time, I agree, CDs sound better.

      ***** Not me. CD blew them away in everything except pocketability.

      I actually do love the sound of vinyl too for some reason… when I put on a mint record today it felt like soo real, as if the musicians were right in the room! I heard parts in the song I never heard before, eventhough it was a song I listened to a lot. I don't even know what happened. That upright bass so warm, you could feel the vibration, the brass section all over the place, the slight pops and hisses of the record are not to everybody's liking, but I love them a lot. But for a vinyl to sound good mastering needs to be done extremely well. And you need to take good care of your records and your turntable, which can be time consuming. I came across records that sounded absolutely crappy too, but the once that sound good, are an incredible experience to me that take me to different places while listening.
      I also have good experience with CDs. They sound different to me, not really inferior at all, but different. But it's got to be real CDs not the once you burn at home at your computer. They still sound amazing too if mastered well and stuff.
      In the end I believe it's the quality in music we need to route for, not the medium which it is stored on, but to me good sound quality is very important. It's nice to see that pple have different opinion.
      itunes crap and spotify can suck my ass though, only good when you're in the subway and listen to music on the go, but maybe that's me being an ignorant vinyl fanatic lol :D

    This is how I felt about CDs for the past 20 years. They're tangible, hold more data, are less fragile. I do like vinyl, but youre stuck at home with them, cant take them with you.

    I prefer vinyls then CD. I love all things vintage and old school stuff. Vinyls are a good way for collecting and being passionate on what you love, so I think vinyls are here to stay.

    I love records. I collect them, but I will admit sometimes I wished the full album played all they way through in one sitting. The flipping of the record to Side B, at times, disrupts the intensity of the listening engagement not to mention, physically some people by then have melted into their furniture. Anyway. The two sided LP player always seemed a gimmick to me, not sure if they make those for Hi-end markets.

    The high point of vinyl records was in the late '70s to the early '80s. I believe most trends tend to hit their peak right before a new technology emerges to replace them. As for records, in the late '70s emerged 12 inch singles for the long disco songs. These songs were rated in BPM - beats per minute. With analog turntables, a DJ could alter the speed slightly of one record to properly mix into the current playing record. However, by the mid '80s the concept of mixing records had passed (this is not to be confused with a mix tape). With disco being over, there was little reason to mix one song over another one.
    Also, radio stations in those days would advertise about their large digital collections. The reality was that radio stations typically copied their CDs or record tracks to CART tapes. The CART tapes had three tracks - right and left sound tracks and a third cue tone track. This allowed radio stations to cue up their songs perfectly. As such, many stations used CART tapes until the late '90s with computer automation.

      Maybe in the US, here in EU the dance music scene took the house music and techno records from Chicago and Detroit and it turned into a huge multi genre music scene all through the nineties and vinyl was the only format the DJs used. The record companies pressed less music on vinyl but dance and electronic music continued with the format all the while, until the so called resurgence of vinyl.. Truth is it never really went away.

    I started buying vinyls in 2019 when I was told that it sounded different from the digital. I was 20 years old and really getting into music. I was curious to discover it. I also used to know only a few songs from the artists I like but never really listened to a whole project of them. That changed so much when Spotify became popular knowing that you can get access to someone's entire discography. I would say that this digital method helped me to get to vinyl, and today I remain buying it. It definitely sounds more alive, natural, organic, compared to digital. The cooler part is the time you find to just pay attention to the song and appreciate it, much more different than listening to a tune while doing other stuff!

    I think they should start doing what the asian markets did with cds. Put them in slip record style covers (smaller) with and LP look with colored disks, and market them with bonus materials, photo books, and lyrics. And cds could be a collector piece too.

    VINYL DOES NOT NOT NOT SOUND BETTER THAN DIGITAL. ITS JUST A QUICK FIX FOR YOU YOUNG KIDS WHOS ATTENTION SPAN IS SHORTER THAN A MP3 FILE. STOP SAYING VINYL IS BETTER. IT IS NOT NOT NOT!!!!!!!!

    • @RHconcertvids
      @RHconcertvids  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure how vinyl is a quick fix, it takes significantly more effort these days to start a vinyl collection in comparison to having a GooglePlay library.
      I do agree though that vinyl “sounding better” does come from a nostalgia sense rather than a critical one.
      If you buy a newer bands vinyl, it will sound exactly the same as the digital version. Maybe that’s because music is produced so differently nowadays but it does add to the argument that nostalgia plays a significant role in vinyl appreciation.
