i really and genuinely appreciate this tv show for actually representing teenagers like teenagers, the way they text and chat and what they wear, their imperfect skin. AHHH it's so perfect i love it and i hope Alice Oseman knows that she made a lot of people like me very happy!!! (im sixteen)

Does the book add anything that the web toon doesn’t have because if not I basically read the entire book in one day as well because I read all the webcomic because of how absolutely amazing it was. Alice Oseman is an amazing writer. She makes something as seemingly simple as a YA novel about a high school romance, into something that I can’t stop thinking about, or talking about, and even rewatching it’s show adaptation.
The biggest ally I have ever known is the librarian from the high school I went to who upon him finding out about me and my queer partner, recommended heartstopper when only the first two books were out. And to this day heartstopper is still the most important book series to me, I’ve reread them at least 8 times

Jack!! You probably already know about this, but on the Rue de la Parcheminerie (a few streets behind Shakespeare and Co. actually) is The Abbey Bookshop, a lovely English-language bookshop with both new and used books. It's just bookcase upon bookcase upon bookcase sliding over each other and piles and piles of amazing books to sort through. It's so so good, I always want to go and spend some time just browsing whenever I'm in Paris! It's run by a really nice Canadian man, and you can usually get free coffee and tea when you visit. If you haven't visited yet, I would recommend!
I first read heartstopper a bit over a year ago and have read it so many times since, I watched the TV series the day it came out and I just love this story so so much. The representation, the way it’s educational and shows LGBTQ+ issues without being depressing, I just love it so much. Alice Oseman is amazing.

@@strawbeare Hey, I do feel this way from time to time, especially watching the actors who played these amazing characters grow but it is something that is inevitable, it deserves to go out and inspire others but although it doesn't take away from the sadness. To be apart of something this great, it is wonderful. It is something that often fades on its own for me. I thought I was the only one that felt this way. Hang in there. 🥺💓

As someone currently in high school (although I’m in Australia so it might be different), from what I’ve seen high school is nowhere near as bad as euphoria (although people do swear a lot but that’s not rly a big deal) Edit: although I’m now remembering that there was this whole thing about lots of kids vaping
These things actually happen though. People got moved around/expelled for drug use, arrests, sex parties etc. My school wasnt as dramatic as the show, but between the whole district (news travels real fast and far) everything portrayed has happened to some degree.

It made me realise I was Aspec and the importance of platonic relationships and that you don’t have to be in a romantic relationship to have that closeness (and actually now am in an open QPR, which for us means on the border between platonic and romantic- we previously labelled as girlfriends but basically have decided to be in a QPR which works better for the both of us), and yeah I want to make them read loveless because it’s my everything. Anyways yes I 100% want that. (I also would want to audition for Rooney, but also related to Georgia)
I think euphoria isn’t *too* unrealistic, and I only say this because there was a drug crackdown in my middle school and so many fights and drama, and a girl my friend knew hooked up with older guys in motels in her freshmen year, so it would be unfair of me to say that nothing in euphoria ever actually happens, (US public schools are a mess) but it’s definitely taken to the extreme and makes it seem like it’s just messy adult stuff all the time. Kids aren’t like that all the time, if they are at all, because many are still just going through it and learning. Heart stopper was cute and realistic for a lot more people
I have to agree with you, in my experience we had a similar highschool to euphoria in the sense of a small town with nothing to do but have sex and do drugs... Many teen pregnancies, addicts in and out of rehab, abusive parents and relationships, most didn't finish school and the lucky one's we had the privilege of leaving and studying in a city actually made something with our lives. As a Bisexual, i wish i had an experience similar to Nick and Charlie just sweet and innocent teenage love... It's very bittersweet

I love Alice Oseman. Her books give such important and true representation. I actually read Loveless when I started doubting whether I was asexual. The book really helped me and I can definitely see how Heartstopper helped others in the same way!

Jack you should read the books mentioned in the anime "bonguo stray dogs" where every character is inspired by an author (they have the authors name, dress like the time period the writer lived in...) and each one has a "superpower" called after their most famous book.

I’ve known about Heartstopper for a while since most of the booktubers I follow rave about the series. For some unfathomable reason I hadn’t gotten round to reading them yet. I decided to read them just before the show came out. I read them online in one sitting, immediately bought the physical copies, and then binge watched the show in one sitting! I’m hooked and have now entered the stage of heartstopper deprived wallowing 😂

No but on a serious note, I had heard people talking about the books but knew nothing about them, I then watched the series and immediately ordered the books, can’t wait to read them!!
Hearstopper is one of the most wholesome pieces of media (both the graphic novels and the show) ever. I saw a TikTok where the creator was crying over Heartstopper, not because it was overtly happy, not because it was overtly sad, but because it was cute. I have not hyperfixated on something like this since my One Direction phase and I'm scared. I've literally started analyzing the colours and lighting symbolism in the show over on Tumblr...I have no chill.

Literally one of my favorite shows on Netflix. I absolutely LOVED Young Royals but nothing compares to the representation we see in Heartstopper. I felt so seen and recognized through Nick's character and it was SOOO refreshing to feel that kind of connection with a character. It's not even been a week and I'm just about finished my second time watching it. I can't wait for more!!

When my heartstopper books arrived, my heart seriously stopped because I honestly didn't think these books were that large and thick and so very beautiful. So yeah they take a chunky amount of space

TW AND SPOILERS I read all of heartstopper in 2 days, it was truly incredible. I watched the show first and wanted to read the books, but I was worried because I heard someone say it deals with EDs and self harm. I was really impressed about the way everything was handled, nothing was super graphic or romanticized (THANK YOU) and it brings up a lot of important messages about LGBT issues and mental health. I especially appreciate how it highlights that getting into a relationship doesn't automatically solve everything, the importance of a support network beyond just Nick and how Nick realizes that he can't help Charlie all on his own. There are just SO MANY DETAILS that really make it amazing.

I also read the whole series in one day after watching the first season in one sitting and I have something to ask. I've thought myself to be a horror reader, period. But lately I've been reading some YA romance and I think I found my home. Having said that, could you make a video recommending novels that are similar to Heartstopper? All I've read so far was Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, which is also very sweet, but we don't get much of the tenderness of the relationship, it's mostly a mystery until the very end, and Red, White, Royal Blue, which I flat out disliked mostly because for the majority of the book, their relationship was driven solely by sexual desire, and although it becomes something more appealing towards the end of it I still think it was not my cup of tea, whereas I like Hearstopper for it's pure portrayal of love, friendship, getting to know oneself on their own pace, and it's just overall sweet. I think I'm just tired of seeing us queer people being portrayed either as comic relief or as sad punching bags that end up killing ourselves in the end. I just want something wholesome

You probably already know about this, but on the Rue de la Parcheminerie (a few streets behind Shakespeare and Co. actually) is The Abbey Bookshop, a lovely English-language bookshop with both new and used books. It's just bookcase upon bookcase upon bookcase sliding over each other and piles and piles of amazing books to sort through. It's so so good, I always want to go and spend some time just browsing whenever I'm in Paris! It's run by a really nice Canadian man, and you can usually get free coffee and tea when you visit. If you haven't visited yet, I would recommend!

I first read heartstopper a bit over a year ago and have read it so many times since, I watched the TV series the day it came out and I just love this story so so much. The representation, the way it’s educational and shows LGBTQ+ issues without being depressing, I just love it so much. Alice Oseman is amazing.
Same but I have a question. How do you deal with the feeling of it not being your special thing anymore? It’s good that’s is becoming more known and it deserves the recognition but it doesn’t help the feeling of sadness

@@strawbeare Hey, I do feel this way from time to time, especially watching the actors who played these amazing characters grow but it is something that is inevitable, it deserves to go out and inspire others but although it doesn't take away from the sadness. To be apart of something this great, it is wonderful. It is something that often fades on its own for me. I thought I was the only one that felt this way. Hang in there. 🥺💓

@@strawbeare I guess I just remember that most other people who love heartstopper feel the same way I do (to a degree, at least) and I just love that it’s making so many people happy. It can be tricky to accept that it isn’t just mine (I get that with a lot of books and things lmao) but I just try to remember that, however happy it makes me, it’s doing the same for thousands/millions of others and that’s more important than me having it as my own

As someone currently in high school (although I’m in Australia so it might be different), from what I’ve seen high school is nowhere near as bad as euphoria (although people do swear a lot but that’s not rly a big deal)

These things actually happen though. People got moved around/expelled for drug use, arrests, sex parties etc. My school wasnt as dramatic as the show, but between the whole district (news travels real fast and far) everything portrayed has happened to some degree.

@@kaneamacdonald4822 OMG OMG OMG- I need Loveless to be a movie or a tv show. I sound dramatic when I say this but that book has genuinely changed my life. It made me realise I was Aspec and the importance of platonic relationships and that you don’t have to be in a romantic relationship to have that closeness (and actually now am in an open QPR, which for us means on the border between platonic and romantic- we previously labelled as girlfriends but basically have decided to be in a QPR which works better for the both of us), and yeah I want to make them read loveless because it’s my everything. Anyways yes I 100% want that. (I also would want to audition for Rooney, but also related to Georgia)

I think euphoria isn’t *too* unrealistic, and I only say this because there was a drug crackdown in my middle school and so many fights and drama, and a girl my friend knew hooked up with older guys in motels in her freshmen year, so it would be unfair of me to say that nothing in euphoria ever actually happens, (US public schools are a mess) but it’s definitely taken to the extreme and makes it seem like it’s just messy adult stuff all the time. Kids aren’t like that all the time, if they are at all, because many are still just going through it and learning. Heart stopper was cute and realistic for a lot more people
I have to agree with you, in my experience we had a similar highschool to euphoria in the sense of a small town with nothing to do but have sex and do drugs... Many teen pregnancies, addicts in and out of rehab, abusive parents and relationships, most didn't finish school and the lucky one's we had the privilege of leaving and studying in a city actually made something with our lives.
As a Bisexual, i wish i had an experience similar to Nick and Charlie just sweet and innocent teenage love... It's very bittersweet
So maybe Euphoria is more the US version of being a teenager and Heartstopper the UK version?

The comics are incredible, alice's writing and character developments are brilliant, and the tv show was just everything i could've hoped for. just yesterday i rewatched the whole series and read all the available comics (online) all in one day. i just have so much love for this series and this characters

I love Alice Oseman. Her books give such important and true representation. I actually read Loveless when I started doubting whether I was asexual. The book really helped me and I can definitely see how Heartstopper helped others in the same way!

Jack you should read the books mentioned in the anime "bonguo stray dogs" where every character is inspired by an author (they have the authors name, dress like the time period the writer lived in...) and each one has a "superpower" called after their most famous book.

I’ve known about Heartstopper for a while since most of the booktubers I follow rave about the series. For some unfathomable reason I hadn’t gotten round to reading them yet. I decided to read them just before the show came out. I read them online in one sitting, immediately bought the physical copies, and then binge watched the show in one sitting! I’m hooked and have now entered the stage of heartstopper deprived wallowing 😂

Hearstopper is one of the most wholesome pieces of media (both the graphic novels and the show) ever. I saw a TikTok where the creator was crying over Heartstopper, not because it was overtly happy, not because it was overtly sad, but because it was cute. I have not hyperfixated on something like this since my One Direction phase and I'm scared. I've literally started analyzing the colours and lighting symbolism in the show over on Tumblr...I have no chill.
In the show, Isaac is always reading books in each scene. I thought of you and thought it would be a video you’d make, reading all the books in Heartstopper.

Literally one of my favorite shows on Netflix. I absolutely LOVED Young Royals but nothing compares to the representation we see in Heartstopper. I felt so seen and recognized through Nick's character and it was SOOO refreshing to feel that kind of connection with a character. It's not even been a week and I'm just about finished my second time watching it. I can't wait for more!!

When my heartstopper books arrived, my heart seriously stopped because I honestly didn't think these books were that large and thick and so very beautiful. So yeah they take a chunky amount of space

I read all of heartstopper in 2 days, it was truly incredible. I watched the show first and wanted to read the books, but I was worried because I heard someone say it deals with EDs and self harm. I was really impressed about the way everything was handled, nothing was super graphic or romanticized (THANK YOU) and it brings up a lot of important messages about LGBT issues and mental health. I especially appreciate how it highlights that getting into a relationship doesn't automatically solve everything, the importance of a support network beyond just Nick and how Nick realizes that he can't help Charlie all on his own. There are just SO MANY DETAILS that really make it amazing.

I also read the whole series in one day after watching the first season in one sitting and I have something to ask. I've thought myself to be a horror reader, period. But lately I've been reading some YA romance and I think I found my home.
Having said that, could you make a video recommending novels that are similar to Heartstopper? All I've read so far was Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, which is also very sweet, but we don't get much of the tenderness of the relationship, it's mostly a mystery until the very end, and Red, White, Royal Blue, which I flat out disliked mostly because for the majority of the book, their relationship was driven solely by sexual desire, and although it becomes something more appealing towards the end of it I still think it was not my cup of tea, whereas I like Hearstopper for it's pure portrayal of love, friendship, getting to know oneself on their own pace, and it's just overall sweet.
I think I'm just tired of seeing us queer people being portrayed either as comic relief or as sad punching bags that end up killing ourselves in the end. I just want something wholesome
