That´s why I like you. Not only your videos but also the person before the camera. You have a great sense for humanity, your videos show always your true self and also the things you point at are also great and important as well. You see, I´ve watched almost every video of yours because I can´t help but laugh the way you go on certain things, I definitely recommend your videos to all the people I know, make sure of that, you got my word. Greetings from Germany.
Dog was returned. Multiple vets looked at it and authorities refused to take it. Appreciate ur change of focus towards the larger issue. With all the stuff this woman is dealing with, having her dog taken away on top of it isn’t the answer. Learning how to properly handle her animal and not be a racist is the message. Bravo, and thanks for the accurate follow up. I doubt any tracheal damage was made, considering 2 vets said the dog was in good health and showed no signs of abuse or mistreatment. Thanks 👍
Dr. Woods!! YES! I'm a veterinarian who loves all these other "professionals react" videos (Mama Dr. Jones, Dr. Mike, Legal Eagle) - but I'm a very private person/work in public health veterinary medicine and will never ever do one myself (maybe if its outbreak and contagion but literally only those two movies so I've got a limited future youtube career). But I'm so glad that you exist!! Please fill this veterinary void! Please! Do reaction videos to these things: #1) Episodes of Animal Practice - I thought this was going to be like the veterinary version of scrubs with comedy mixed in with true hard-hitting moments that veterinary medicine actually deals with. Nope. This is not at all real. Please review! #2) Multiple episodes of Burn Notice - they use veterinarians to illegally stitch people up instead of going to a hospital, and in one episode they get fentanyl from a veterinarian to sell in some drug deal (it's been a few years). When I saw that episode I was outraged. Like...hello...we have DEA licenses too. #3) Grey's Anatomy - The main character dates a veterinarian for half a season. Several great scenes to review. All the vet hatred from the surgical interns! What the heck! Also potential for reviewing osteosarc in dogs - Meredith goes to her human orthopedic surgeon friend to ask for advice instead of the veterinarian. If I think of any more, I will let you know. But for sure, those are ones I thought would be perfect for "veterinarian reacts!" videos. Greys Anatomy/Burn notice will probably appeal to larger audience. Animal Practice has a lot of stuff to cover though and could get you more videos - it was just a terrible show sooo not a huge audience. For sure, you could totally do reaction videos to real veterinarian shows (like Dr. Pol) but...I don't know I would never feel comfortable critiquing another practicing veterinarian unless it was to highlight differences in care due to economic diversity. Like to explain "this guy is able to offer surgery for $400 because he's not doing x, y, z...which is totally okay, just understand that if you go to a specialty clinic you'll pay closer to $3000 for the same surgery because they're doing a, b, c instead." But you do you! So excited that a veterinarian is doing reaction videos!!! *edit* Also review the Dog Whisperer for behavior stuff, and you can do non-reaction based videos that are just like "the top 5 things your veterinarian wants you to know"..."veterinarian reviews reddit veterinary advice"...."the top 5 worst things to give your dog"....

In the interest of learning, though I wanted to ask if in the squirrel video, would the squirrel being dropped be an example of positive punishment rather than negative reinforcement? The introduction of an unpleasant stimulus to decrease the frequency of the squirrel's behavior (standing on the platform) Either way the video was awesome, thanks for including the last video - I think it's incredibly important and I'm happy you took the opportunity to address it. Thank you for everything you do!
@@dogtordrew we'll blame Skinner for naming each of the quadrants of operant conditioning in the most convoluted way possible. Anyway, thanks for clarifying! Keep up the awesome work!
Negative reinforcement = removing something in the environment (usually an aversive) to increase a particular behavior. Hi Dr. Woods. I've been working as a Vet Assistant for awhile (I'm a few months from attending vet school! :). My animal hospital often works with animal rescue organizations, so we get crazy stray cats all the time. I was wondering if you had any advice for restraining these cases. I was taught to always handle by grasping the scruff, but I can never get good control when they're flailing their dagger hands around. Do you have any techniques that you can share?
From what i've learned about a behaviour vet, scruffing doesnt always work on cats. It only works if the cat has been weaned correctly and sees scruffing as a good thing (from the time it was with its mom) because then it will release endorphins when you scruff it, but sometimes even there it won't work for some cats too scared. So when you have a cat where it clearly doesnt work in the 1st place like the ones you describe, i suggest not using it when you can later on (if you can, because even if they try to scratch you at least it helps not getting bitten!). For some cats it will work perfectly and i don't understand the hatred some people have about it, it's really anthropomorphism to my opinion (but i guess studies may not all agree on the benefits when the cat respond to it too). Usually for cats like that i use the gloves obviously and if they really are untouchable i throw a big blanket on them to get to them (for example for a subcutaneous injection inside the cage for the cats too agressive to be taken out, a big blanket covering their head and some of them freeze the time u do your SC on the backside). Also, some cats get inhibited with a buster collar (i may leave it in place for further handling, but careful some cats won't eat with eat, so gotta think about it if it's an hosptalization for some days), but some get even more agressive lol. And it also prevents a lot of bites, u can hold them by the shoulders or gently by the neck while they try to eat you ahah!) You also have cat muzzles but i don't really trust them (but some cats gets inhibited by it too so worth the try !) Also i think it's very important to limit the stress at the clinic such as never putting the transport cage on the floor, advising owners to cover the cage with a towel in the car and in the waiting room to limit the stress when the consult start, not letting the cat on a cold table (if it's a metal table put some towel), having a kennel just for cats if possible, using cats pheromones, removing the litter when u feed them if ur cage isnt big enough to get a good distance between the 2 (if i remember correctly it should at least be 60 cm), never doing bad stuff inside the cage (the safe place) etc etc ... As for really too agressive cats, sedation IM or gaz. It's kinda sad to end up taking an anesthesia risk (and stressing them with the inducing) but we are NOT here to get bitten no matter what the owner say, and in the end it may be better for the cat not to remember the procedures while it slept. And same for scruffing no matter what some people think about it if it works for a very agressive cat, it's not worth getting bitten so the cat does not get scruffed ... But it's my opinion and mine only Try to get friendly with a cat that stays at the clinic too, it could change the way it reacts to handling later on (i've seen many). Also when you have some procedures to do (like idk multiple injection, removing the catheter etc etc), i like to stop when the cat start getting irritated and try again later. But ofc if the cat is always irritated i just restrain it in the end lol I am interested if anyone has any other tips ! No jugement on anyone please, cats are the devil xD

How do I get A guinea pig to stop begging? He shrieks when he sees me and wont stop till I give him some vegetables. He has 24/7 access to hay and pellets. The noise is driving me crazy. I lost my temper and yelled at him a couple of times but he has no fear of me whatsoever. The other piggies i’ve had would maybe squeak at me a lil but this one screams.
You'd likely have to not give in at all to "break" that behavior, it often gets worse before getting better though. The animal gets frustrated and tries harder before realizing that maybe being quiet will get them a reward
I love the squish that cat - I love getting squishy with my friend's cat - she'll reluctantly accept, but when she doesn't get attention she'll let you know
aaaaa i want to be a vet so much TwT or just any job with animals i just love them, helping them or designing enclosures for them. Its really my thing ig
and i hold my cats right apparently...and sadly i know a person who literally abuses my cats, so when that person comes to visit, i put some water and food in the room and dont let that person go in my room unless they learn how to treat a cat
My dog has been going in our trash in the kitchen lately (she knows she's not supposed to) and my mom just yells at her because she thinks it'll stop my dog from going in next time but it obviously isn't helping. You talked about negative re-enforcement and all that so is that the right thing to do? We don't really reward her with treats when she doesn't go in the trash but we give her treats when we're training her and stuff like that.
Andrew Woods you should maybe react to some reality Vet shows that are on Animal planet I believe like « The Vets Life « , « Dr. Jeff » or « Dr. Pol » 😊
As a black woman with 2 black cats, I say thank you for speaking up about black lives matter. I like black cats because I feel they get the same stereotypes as black people. They're scary, they're full of evil. Black cats are the first cat to be put down at animal shelters, unfortunately. So I have a sign on my apartment door that says black lives matter and black cat lives matter. 😸
Um... actually... your definitions of behavoral concepts could use some work... Basically, from a psychological standpoint: Positive is adding. Negative is removing. Reinforcement is to gain behaviors. Punishment is to prevent. And your flamepoint is amazingly adorable.
I'm wondering if I can feed may cat raw meat ONLY because my cat never got meat as a kitten and I've heard that as they grow up they need raw meat to grow up and have strong bones, I would like you to explain this to me because I was thinking of feeding my cat raw meat as a one in a life time thing. I would like it if you can explain me this and give me info about this.
I am an animal lover, too. It was hard for me to even concentrate on the incident between the two Karen's (Mr.Cooper and Mrs.Cooper) because of the dog's struggle. I honestly think Amy Cooper was in a "state" at the time. She also had rescued the dog and perhaps was new at handling it. She should have done what Mr. Cooper wanted at the beginning because he was correct; those are the rules. She obviously, didn't want to follow his direction of where to go and he obviously, didn't like that she wasn't obeying him and it was interfering with his bird watching. They both were agitated. The sequence of what happened before he started filming really turns the whole situation into a "not so black and white issue." I have only seen a few videos that show the narrative - that actually is given by Mr. Cooper. If that happened to me, by a man, or teenager, black or white ,(or even a female,) I would have leashed my dog and hit the road. The first thing that came to mind was poisoning. The entire episode from where "he" approached her is written out on a few videos and it should be viewed. It may change your mind, especially, when Mr. Cooper is calling the dog over to him to eat the dog treats he is holding out. Now, that said- she seemed to have no control over her dog and how much pain she was causing it at the time and that IS awful. In addition, her insistence on repeatedly referring to an African American Man on her 911 shows not only her personal racism but our nation's racism. I don't believe she wanted the man to be killed, in another awful situation like we are experiencing almost daily; she may have suddenly freaked out, alone in a park with him, knowing he was pissed about her dis-obeying his direction and was now trying to scare him. Either way it was an despicable move on her part and we are lucky the police weren't there quicker- because the whole thing could have turned catastrophic. She was definitely wrong, I believe she is racist, and privileged, and Mr. Cooper seemed to cleverly realize that, too and saw how she was "losing her mind." I don't think he came looking for a problem but I don't think he was someone who was a dog loving/bird watching guy who just found himself in this perplexing new predicament. It probably (also, wrongly) has happened before and he is sensitive to those who think they don't have to follow the park rules. I think he gave her the nudge that pushed her over the edge when he said "I'm going to do something but you won't like it" and then "Come Here, Puppy." That's when he held out the dog treats. Please read the short transcript provided by Mr. Christopher Cooper. 99% of the videos are from when he turns on the camera, but nothing from prior to that. This world is so dangerous already; we can't affor to have more confusion fueling these fires. The truth is bad enough; lets get through that. Okay, now you being a veterinarian, how would you feel, if confronted in this situation? PS. I hope that sweet dog get re-adopted.
Idk if this is a good question to ask but online I feel like it is very exaggerated. Do veterinarians make around 100k starting salary? I live in California and would likely live here after vet school.
That's not negative reinforcement, that's a negative punishment. Reinforcement means to reinforce behaviors, positive meaning to add, negative meaning to remove. A punishment is to discourage behaviors.
I can't watch this because there are just too many jump cuts to memes and sound effects and such. I'm sure there's a lot of good information to be found here, but I find the editing intolerable.
I’ve been loving checking out your videos. Crazy, racist, animal abusing Amy aside, I was interested in what you said about reinforcement. I was kind of hoping you might be able to do a cat training how to video. I love my cat Buster but he constantly meows and really the only time he stops is when he is eating or sleeping. I feel like the mother of a toddler, I lock myself in other rooms for a break and 30 seconds latter the ginger prick is sticking his foot under the door and crying like he is the most abused creature on earth. How do you shut a cat up? It’s been 13 years of this so far, not sure how much more I can take lol
Nice video but I want to remind you that cats do not have a gender, only biological sex. Sex and gender are not interchangeable and I sure hope they weren't used as such at your vet school. They aren't at mine, for good reason.

I love the squish that cat - I love getting squishy with my friend's cat - she'll reluctantly accept, but when she doesn't get attention she'll let you know
I am going to become a vet tech. Your videos are awesome.
Drawing Disciple Thats awesome thanks for watching!!!
GREAT video. Hilarious edits. Informative. Speaking of A1 content.
When will new vudeo be uploaded :3
You act like my science teacher. Have good day.
The sad thing that they gave the dog back to her 😡
Mark rover did work for nasa
Where is Ash?
aaaaa i want to be a vet so much TwT or just any job with animals i just love them, helping them or designing enclosures for them. Its really my thing ig
and i hold my cats right apparently...and sadly i know a person who literally abuses my cats, so when that person comes to visit, i put some water and food in the room and dont let that person go in my room unless they learn how to treat a cat

I've read and heard they gave her the dog back...!
You're boys are gorgeous 😻my cat doesn't like to sit on my lap at all, any advice to encourage him to ?!
Maybe try walnuts? 😁
I want to see more react videos!!! « Am I Dr. Mike yet » 😂😂😂😂
Alma Alvarado Haha what should I react to!?
Andrew Woods you should maybe react to some reality Vet shows that are on Animal planet I believe like « The Vets Life « , « Dr. Jeff » or « Dr. Pol » 😊
React to movie animal scenes pls 😊
When you have the time: Can you make that video about what you think are the best dog/cat foods?
Thanks :)
I have a question, I’m 13, am I old enough to do work experience at a vet, if so how can I do it, if not how old do I have to be?
As a black woman with 2 black cats, I say thank you for speaking up about black lives matter. I like black cats because I feel they get the same stereotypes as black people. They're scary, they're full of evil. Black cats are the first cat to be put down at animal shelters, unfortunately.
So I have a sign on my apartment door that says black lives matter and black cat lives matter. 😸
You look like Kurtis Conner
Good video
preciate it!
Andrew Woods thank you for ur videos
Um... actually... your definitions of behavoral concepts could use some work...
Basically, from a psychological standpoint: Positive is adding. Negative is removing. Reinforcement is to gain behaviors. Punishment is to prevent.
And your flamepoint is amazingly adorable.
The dog is screaming, "I can't breath"
I'm wondering if I can feed may cat raw meat ONLY because my cat never got meat as a kitten and I've heard that as they grow up they need raw meat to grow up and have strong bones, I would like you to explain this to me because I was thinking of feeding my cat raw meat as a one in a life time thing. I would like it if you can explain me this and give me info about this.

Just trying to make it 100 comments lol

I cry every time I see the video with the dog
That's not negative reinforcement, that's a negative punishment. Reinforcement means to reinforce behaviors, positive meaning to add, negative meaning to remove. A punishment is to discourage behaviors.
Ive never been so early to a video😋
Ashley Rivera Hi. Me either.
Early gang wassuspppp
Hey, its ok you're not Dr. Mike. You care for animals and that's cool.
i notised the racism first
I can't watch this because there are just too many jump cuts to memes and sound effects and such.
Can I subscribe
Im a hater
So cringy watching someone try to be funny when there just not...
I lost all respect for this guy after his raw food video..
