I am a hairstylist who specializes in fragrance free haircare. There isn’t a lot out there on the market, but I make do with what I can. The Free and Clear hair gel and soft/strong hold hairsprays are fantastic. The hair gel is also alcohol free and water soluble. They also do not contain any plant extracts.
Another brand that specializes in dye and fragrance free products is the brand No Nothing. Unlike Free and Clear, they are a professionally haircare brand so you’ll need to go onto their website. They’re also cruelty free and allergist tested (if that means anything). Hope I could help some people! Have an irritant free week! 🖤

Its mainly online and night classes geared towards adults. I had to take the GREs, write an essay, and get reccomendation letters. It's a great program, it's all throughout the year you take two classes a time, each is only seven weeks long, so fast paced. Applying for internships now, which you do during your second year. I used to spend so much $$$ on skincare and believed that 5-step skincare routine is the best for my skin. I am now following your skincare routine, and my skin has never been better! I stopped using my toner, my vitamin C’s and AHA serums, and facial oils. Now all I focus on is sun protection and transepidermal water loss prevention. Thanks to you, my routine is efficient and effective, my skin’s properly moisturized, and my wallet is happy. 😉

Hair - the whole co washing thing is linked to the curly girl method, which encourages clarifying your hair/scalp with specific sulphates that are not too harsh. Also, wavy hair (2a-2c) with a higher porosity doesn't handle co washing all that well, especially when you take glycerine and dew points into consideration. Shea Moisture is actually quite heavy, as is Cantu for hair such as yours.

I really like using Cantu shampoo, conditioner, styling cream, and leave in conditioner. It is such a relief to have found such an affordable brand whose products work well for my hair. I also feel like I finally unlocked the secret to great curls by shopping the black hair section. I used to cowash for years, and I had no idea it was probably causing my mild dandruff. The biggest help to my hair being nicely curled instead of wavy is the drugstore satin bonnet!
Thank you for reminding me of that Japanese sunscreen! I wish I could allow myself to try it asap because it sounds to be even better than my current favorite sunscreens.

  • @jordanxfile

Yeah, I've been using a very "gentle" shampoo for my hair, which really doesn't clean my hair well and results in my hair getting oily earlier than what was normal for me. Plus, I do see some dandruff, which is new. Clarifying the scalp once a week is a good idea, regardless of what else you do to your hair. This has been my experience. Thank you Dr. Dray :)

What were you guys thinking? :-) by the way those hair clips with the teeth are suspect of having caused my crown alopecia as I pulled my hair atop my head and secured with one of those probably scratching my scalp a lot cuz you know I bought the cheap ones and they were Sharp! The tension may have had something to do with it as well.

I’m always looking at hair products that keep the frizz down but I also have that problem of oil and dandruff building in my scalp. Lately I’ve been using a tiny drop of the real tea oil mixed in with the Shea Moisturizer which has helped. Shame about the Sun Bum, I love of their products including their whipped mouse but it don’t take much for my hair to stayed curled. Just a little coconut oil and water with any gel goes along ways. By the way I really love the relationship you have with your mom. She seems like a wonderful woman. Take care Dr Dray and happy Sunday! 🙏🏾💜

Personally, I've given up looking for affordable fragrance free textured hair products as someone with 3a hair texture 😂
It was then that I found about a month ago a nice shampoo and conditioner by a Canadian company named Nature Clean while I was at the supermarket. It's labeled as "unscented", but it has no fragrance in it.
We just now need to put more pressure on companies to make fragrance free options. If they could do that for the clean beauty movement and the CG Hair movement, I don't see why they can't for this.

A good trick for winter hands is putting a favorite moisturizer on clean skin, settling in with a book or movie for 10 minutes with vinyl rubber dish gloves over the top.
My grandma made my grandpa do this (he is a machinist and chronic tinkerer so he has lots of abrasives aside from gojo on his skin).
Take the gloves off and rinse out the insides with soap and water as a waste free option to manicure gloves. Rub what's left of the product into damp skin and you're hands will be soft as a baby's bum.
Personally, I use the non latex rubber ones from playtex and boil wash them just to be sure they're clean.

I have super curly hair and oils are the only thing that will keep my hair soft and frizz-free. All of the silicone anti-frizz products make my hair SO much worse.
But I never put the oil anywhere near my scalp. When my hair is still dripping wet, I put the oil through the mid-length to the ends and that’s all. I’ve never had issues with dandruff or any kind of acne.
(It also helps my hair get longer, not because it magically makes it grow faster, but because it helps me avoid breakage at the ends of my hair)

    How to use:
Take an appropriate amount and apply evenly to your skin.
To maintain the effect, re-apply frequently and re-apply after wiping with a handkerchief or towel or after swimming.
When you drop, wash carefully with soap.
Make sure that there is no abnormality on the inside of your arm.

I have very thick/course textured/highlighted/long/curly hair and normally use shea moisture, as I am, cantu etc to tame it. I do have eczema however and during a flare I have an unscented conditioner from urtekam that I use to co wash and leave in. I also have a very dry scalp as well as dry skin so oil isn't an issue for me - my hair and skin loves pure shea butter or coconut oil. I use the cantu kids gel custard for hold, but don't use it on/near my scalp when it is flared up. While it's drying I keep my hair off my skin and i sleep with a bonnet, to avoid the fragranced products having prolonged contact with eczema patches. I'm looking for products which work for my hair type (without a massive amount of fragrance), but I use a lot of product and need something affordable. I don't use silicones in my hair as they can build up, though I clarify and deep condition monthly. This type of hair is very thirsty and difficult to manage, but this mane is part of my style. I've had short hair but I didn't like it for myself, though it can look amazing on many women. I live in Scotland where access to a lot of brands is limited without going online and paying a lot of postage. As Scotland is becoming more diverse racially, it is getting easier to access products for curly hair, but they are still fairly expensive. This is very noticible when I saw the prices on the shelves shown. I looked at the function of beauty, but it would be expensive as I use a lot of product. Best wishes.

They claim sulfate free but are very sudsy. Regular detergent SLS shampoos make my scalp dry and itchy. But the OGX are just as sudsy and not drying. Another drugstore shampoo I like is Loreal sulfate free shampoos. I like the thickening rosemary one and the one for moisture. They smell SO good but don’t bother my scalp.

I developed an allergy to sulfates used for hair washing- even the milder ones- My scalp would just itch and my hair would get greasy fast to compensate for the drying, I'm guessing- I now use shampoo bars and then I co-wash with Trader Joe's mint conditioner (use both- start with shampoo bar then co-wash for the rinse). My scalp doesn't itch anymore and my hair looks so much better, less frizzy and my natural wave is back. I use the Cantu comeback curl, occasionally, ..though it has magnesium sulfate in it which is a little drying- I love the stuff.
