      I have used primus (not primus 2.0), it's a good product but Bilt Hamber touchless is better. Basically Bilt Hamber is an excellent brand. Surfex hd is one of the best APC on the market,if not the best. Great prices as well if you live in the UK, in the rest of Europe not so much.

    Nice rundown Jaime. One side note on my Stars+Stripes, being two step soaps one is used over the other, when they mix the vehicle see a pH of roughly 7-8, using a pH test strip on the surface of the vehicle should reflect that.

    I just used BH Touch-Less at 0.5% PIR on my DB36 coating. Between how good the coating is performing and how well Touch-Less worked, there was hardly anything left for the rinseless contact wash to remove. I did Hero on one half and Absolute on the other. Absolute is still great stuff, but I've really been blown away by Rrw and Hero.
    I'm still skeptical of Idrosave, and that's way too much protection for my cars based on my new maintenance scheme (no toppers) but it's great for maintenance clients. Top n' send baby!

    • @JamieTheCleaner
      @JamieTheCleaner  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah it adds a ton of protection only good for every 3-6 months maintenance like on this non coated client, I might try it on a coated client just to see how it does in the future

      Did my first hybrid wash on Saturday and was my first use of Hero, first impression of Hero is great, nice and slick under the UBS and easy to work with in the sun,

      @jeffc6832 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LSD04 yeah I was hybrid washing before all the cool kids (Eddie, Jamie, etc) started doing it. That has been my standard wash process since 2018 for when my cars are too dirty for rinseless alone. The only difference is that I was either doing it with just a pH neutral soap or spiking it with some APC or doing an APC presoak on the very dirty areas. I'm glad we have some safer "strong" prewash options now when needed. I'm still not doing it every time, but its good to have options.

    • @LSD04
      @LSD04 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jeffc6832 I’ve always been in the proper prewash and one bucket camp, I’m in the Uk and have been on the BH train for many years.
      I think this might be why I’ve struggled a little with trying Rinseless, has never really felt right, I don’t like seeing a dirty bucket even if the solution removes it from the wash media as the dirt is still on the paint.
      Having the option to dry as you go in the summer is nice to have, little touch ups in door jams and dry straight away if required, looking forward to trying it a bit more.

Sodium metasilicate is used to do the same but at a lighter level on wood, same as sodium precarbonate. You know what else contains sodium hydroxide?? Hair and grease removers for drains like drain-o..... Think about what that does to your paint.

    Jamie…need your helpp. I wanna buy a shinemate DA polisher. I was gonna go with the milwaukee since i have 3 batteries. But thinking the regular cord shinemate. Its going to be used on my RAM limited full size truck. Idk if i should go 15mm or 21mm just for regular maintenance of the paint. Also do you strictly use the edge guard pads with your shine mate or go with other brand pads depending on correction? Also was wondering can i buy a much smaller backing plate and get into the smaller areas with the same DA or is that not really useful with a 21 or 15 polisher? It will be my first machine i buy so i want to get everything right. Still kinda Torn between the milwaukee tool only and shinemate corded for same price…but yours and Eddy’s vids recently kinda swayed me towards shinemate even tho its corded

      @JamieTheCleaner  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Shinemates will definitely give you less vibration but the convenience of already having batteries I would probably just go ahead and get the Milwaukee cordless and later get a 21mm shinemate if you want more cutting power, I have been using a variety of buff and shine pads lately with the edgeguard, free ride, and Uro wools they are awesome

    Their product page says it contains potassium hydroxide. I thought that chemical is very similar to sodium hydroxide.
    I’m no chemist but it seems like it is corrosive too potentially?

    • @JamieTheCleaner
      @JamieTheCleaner  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Definitely 👍 but at the percentage in the formula is why it gets a passing grade of still being a non caustic formula, basically they have a good chemist 👍

    • @jayhoughton558
      @jayhoughton558 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JamieTheCleaner for sure. And the examples you have likely had high amounts of caustic sodas in them. But there are others that may well have less and are no more corrosive than Primus. I assume P&S and Koch Chemie may not be applying for the same VDA certification. So just because they don’t have it doesn’t mean this product is safer.
      Would be interesting to see how other products would do in the certification testing (like Frostbite or Active foam). Both are great and both are a lower PH than primus.
      I believe the caustic soda is the reason some put rust inhibitors in the formula. It makes the soda not caustic on the surface.

    If high pH (above 7) is by definition the concentration of free hydroxide ions in the water, I don't see how the addition of NaOH (sodium hydroxide) would be any more harsh on your paint than anything else at the same pH. This idea of caustic sodas is a bit overblown from what I can see. High pH is high pH and having high pH on your paint is probably whats doing the damage. The presence of the sodium is irrelevant (if you have soft water it's got a bunch of sodium in it anyways). Now these boutique shampoos might have surfactants and corrosion inhibitors in them to protect the paint and plastics against the presence of high pH but I suspect the real answer is that the pH of the water in your bucket or the foam from your foam cannon is just diluted down to a lower pH, probably around 9-10. Would love to see some evidence to the contrary but my real guess is that harsh cleaners like Dark Fury and Super Clean are being used at a higher pH than something like Primus 2.0 when actually applied to your paint.

    • @JamieTheCleaner
      @JamieTheCleaner  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s the formulation of the product and the percentages of the caustic sodas used for sure, the ph is just the metering stick and you can clearly see the higher percentage of soda used does increase the ph value and is a much more caustic product in the end

    • @zdub303
      @zdub303 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JamieTheCleaner Yeah, I think rather than trying to avoid caustic soda specifically, we should probably just be avoiding very high pH applications in general. Especially when we've got products with great cleaning surfactants that don't need high pH. For a high pH application I'm guessing 9-10 is the sweet spot that these alkaline soaps are going for. They're all going to use some sort of (salt)-hydroxide to get there though, its just dialing in the concentrations both in the bottle and the foam cannon.

    I’m confused, I use 3D orange(citrus) degreaser for wheels and tires and all around apc because of how “safe”, biodegradable, voc, etc. it is marketed to be. Upon further research I found that this chemical contains sodium hydroxide. I just don’t see how 3D can make all these environmentally friendly claims for the chemical while containing sodium hydroxide. Any information or opinions would be appreciated.

      Chemistry is complicated.
      Seeing a generic chemical name on an SDS doesn't tell us enough information about a formula.
      3D formulas are safer than others but an APC is a degreaser and a high alkaline product. They will never be as safe as using plain water.

      Personally I would not use a higher (9) pH on a weekly basis. I would use a pH neutral Shampoo or a rinseless wash on a weekly basis. I would use this soap once or twice a year, depending on soil level? Then after using a higher pH soap, I would top, if coated, a spray sealant from the same product in the family line.
