Review of the Spectra+128 and Chroma 81

I got interested in these add-ons for the ZX Spectrum and ZX81 as a way of getting a SCART video output. But they are capable of lots more including instant loading from ROM cartridges. I take a look at their features and how they provide extended video modes.

Hi-res graphics have been done on the ZX81 before; I remember a few demos from about ten years ago which used a character drawing trick to produce 256x192 bitmapped graphics. A Czech programmer produced a version of Manic Miner for the ZX81 in 2003 which used hi-res graphics. It actually doesn't require any additional hardware other than the 16k ram expansion.
