- Willie, Sarah and their dog, Jack Spaniels, continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving their suburban life and moving over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
In this episode, the 'Skye-Lifers' explore the far north of the island - heading out to explore Skye's most haunted building - Duntulm Castle.
A bloody history full of intrigue and unfortunate incidents has given this castle a bone-chilling reputation. Will we experience the ghostly apparitions when we enter the castle ruin..?
Plus, Willie's ever growing to-do list for the Landrover Defender keeps hi busy, while Sarah is exploring more eco-friendly options in the kitchen.

I loved that tip about being able to buy lids for the Gu pots. We have ended up putting the glass jars in the recycling because we had no use for so many but maybe buying lids would solve that problem. And, I totally understand the satisfaction of making labels, brilliant fun.

You two are far braver than ! I chickened out on going into Duntelm Castle, so it was lovely to see the inside. Any hope of you filming going up the Quirang from the Staffin side? It's stunning (even though I ended up in a ditch& had to be pulled out...). Also, maybe try the walk from Duntelm to Rubna Hunish? Not sure that it's Jack-friendly, though... apparently some of it is a bit of a scramble..

The many blues of Skye and the Islands look beautiful in the cold, clear, Northern light of Winter which is an artist's dream. I also have some of those antique Herbs and Spices and the Gu ramekins, so thank you for the tip about Gu lids! I see that you were prompted to visit Duntulm Castle from reading the book by Otta Swire. You may know this but Otta Swire’s granddaughter, Flora, was killed in the Lockerbie plane terrorist attack and is buried in the small cemetery at St. John’s chapel just south of Dunvegan. It is a small but beautifully atmospheric place and well worth a visit.
How sad. That was a terrible incident. Glad she is somewhere beautiful.

Thanks for the castle video. We tried but failed to get there earlier this year, parking full. We did park further along the coast and intended to walk back to the castle. However whilst walking around the Hunish peninsula it absolutely hammered down with real Skye style rain! We were absolutely soaked so gave up on the castle and went back to our campervan to dry out. Sarah, what an amazing find are those Gu pot lids......genius, we've got loads of pots, will be ordering some lids very soon. Thanks both for another great vlog.
Laughed at the " questionable mustard powder" have you tried using it on roast potatoes? I part boil my potatoes, then drizzle a little olive oil over the drained potatoes sprinkle a good bit of mustard( acouple of good teaspoonfulls) over the potatoes, put the pan lid on and give them a good shake then roast as normal. The potatoes go a lovely golden brown and taste delicious- you can't taste the mustard! But lovely roasties!!!😊❤

I'm with Sarah on the castle ruins - love seeing as many of those as possible! Out of interest, is there ANY place on Skye that doesn't have an amazing view? Because so far I haven't seen any in your videos.
The new bumper looks amazing and putting the herbs and spices in the drawer is hopefully going to preserve them for much longer. Apparently the jars they originally come in shouldn't be held above the pots either - just pour the spices onto a spoon and into the pot from there to protect the rest from the steam, or so I recently learned.
Yes we’ve learned that the hard way too! There are some less scenic places on Skye - but even those are generally better than the rest of the country 😜
If you want a Skye castle that really is on top of cliffs then visit Dunscaith on the wee road down the West side of Sleat.

The north of the island is beautiful; we had a holiday in the second to last cottage when it was a holiday let; it was the only holiday where I cried about leaving to go home.
Yup - Skye is definitely a tough place to leave. That’s why we ended up moving here.
@@livingtheskyelifewe were the same! We kept going on holiday to Scotland and didn’t want to leave so we moved from north Manchester to Fife and we’ve just moved again to near Arbroath to a lovely house overlooking the sea. Scotland definitely has a huge pull!

Please do an episode on Dunvegan Castle and the Fairy Flag. There is a ruin and a graveyard just outside the village and in it I found the grave of a Duncan McLeod, the name of the immortal protagonist of The Highlander series.

I've been to Duntulm Castle twice and both times enjoyed a peaceful hour or so admiring the views.
Defo' use the Lanoguard on all parts you can get to--especially the inside of all the box sections--you'll save yourself alot of headaches in the future--nice Lanide by the way,from a JLR anorack!!---lol.
