Hi! What kind of batteries (accumulators) do you use with it?

Just to share my experience... when you buy a used *istD (D-DL-DS) or K100D/K110D/K2000 always use rechargeable batteries and leave them on the camera at least for 24h since (often) the internal capacitor needs to be recharged... this will fix the date/time loss (when you change the batteries) and the blinking "empty batteries" warning...

Hello there. Also having the same problem with my *ist ds. Do I need to leave the batteries for 24hrs with the camera turned on? Thanks.

@@dlain200 Subtleties of translation (meaning)! You need to know that. 1). We are talking about the fact that YOU should START shooting not earlier than the charge of the (high-voltage) capacitor ends. That is, the device should STAND (without work) for a while with newly charged batteries. 2). Your batteries may have weaknesses. This happens when they are unable to supply the proper current and/or they cannot provide a voltage of 1.5 volts (EACH). When you fulfill simple conditions, everything will work out!

God damn Duracell, they might last, but they ALWAYS leak. Never seen Panasonic or Energizer leak.
You know, early Pentax DSLRs using AAs have that battery thing. You just have to let it adapt with fresh/different type battery (e.g. changing from rechargeable to alkaline) for 5 min or so and it will work fine.
I own K100D and K200D, both has it and I have seen it on *ist D(S) too when I worked at a photo shop.

What does your word "adapt" (practically) mean?

    • @Madistaja69

@@user-dw2xh7sh2i I have no info about how it exactly works, but as far as my experiences go, it takes few minutes for the camera to detect the power source type. Never had problem switching from rechargeable Ni-MH cells to alkaline AAs, but going the other way around, it seems to need a moment to recognize freshly charged Ni-MH cells. When the camera is turned on immediately after inserting fresh rechargeable cells it will likely indicate the power source to be depleted. It is probably caused by lower voltage of rechargeable cells and the camera considers them as empty alkaline cells at first.
One might think how can the camera detect power source or do anything at all while being turned off. And I don't know if it's common for other manufacturers too, but some parts of Pentax cameras have power even when the switch is in off position. For example the LED indicator flashes when you insert SD card to the camera while it is turned off. I hope it made my earlier comment a bit clearer.

PS: I now red others commenting about 24 hours and internal capacitors, I can't confirm or disagree, I never had so persistent 'empty batteries' indication, 5 min max did the trick. But electronic devices do age, maybe it gets worse with time and I haven't used my old Pentaxes for years.

Testing batteries with a multimeter ?. Blowing downward into the battery bay to get rid of acidic debris, thus carrying it to other parts of the camera ?. Using alcohol to neutralize acidic debris ?. Inserting batteries incorrectly when the correct way is shown on the camera?
As a technician he'd make a good butcher.

I have this Camera. I always use rechargeable batteries with no problems. Eneloop or Ikea LADDA 2450mah.
