You could also interpret it that we are in the G# harmonic minor scale all the time, so we don't have to modulate. So we are starting from the 6th degree of that scale which is E
Oh absolutely. That works as well. The cool thing about this riff is that it can be interpreted in multiple ways. For me though, I like to think of it as based in E Minor while incorporating the chromatic mediant G# minor because it feels like E is our home base or "tonic". Plus the rest of the song is based on E as well.
"It would be interesting if you could theoretically explain, from a musical perspective, a riff from 'Abscission' by Deathspell Omega." Great channel and video
if you're interested into doing a song breakdown, I'd like to have a "dissection" of at the gates' debut and/or Far Away From The Sun. Any song you find interesting I'd be happy with.
Hey, check out the guitar solo from Brian Eno - Baby's On Fire. See if you can play any of it. Most insane guitar solo recorded. Don't think it's played in any key, so is not possible.
@@profanepropane I think he tunes his guitar very differently and so won't be able to recreate it unless doing the exact same thing. None of it sounds possible to play. The production maybe made it this way. Interesting artefact which not many know about though. Likely you didn't know of it. If you can break it down, then that's amazing, the internet needs that, but you'll probably not be able to as it's so complicated and abnormal to everything else. I know nothing about guitar so have very limited understanding of what's going on with it, yeah..
@PEGGLORE he does tune his guitar differently but it's not impossible to play, more like impossible to comprehend what's going on because of the effects and how Fripp actually plays it.
@@profanepropane OK. Will have to remain bit of an enigma then. There's another crazy one you've probably not heard which you'd find interesting. Listen to Fiery Gun Hand by Cardiacs. That's been spliced together crazily and is impossible to play as well. Sounds like loads of different ones been stitched together or something. Pretty amazing composition going on.
@@PEGGLORE just listened to it. definitely possible to play. it's maybe in a different tuning than standard but you can tune your guitar to that tuning and voila. the rest is not that fancy in terms of difficulty. the note choices though....to me it sounds absolutely abhorrent. not one of fripps better work. so if one can stomach to actually replicate what he's playing here it is definitely possible in the same way that you could replicate the noodlings of someone that just bought his guitar and some effect pedals and just goes wild. can you do it? yes but i dont know anyone who would want to
Many bands are technically proficient but can't write a memorable song to save their lives. Songwriting ability is key.
Absolutely. Songwriting ability is crucial.
FACTS
Tech is generally boring as fuck and soulless. It’s all about the feel. 🤘
This was great! Keep up the analysis. We don’t have nearly enough for Dissection.
Thanks! There will definitely be more on Dissection, as well as many other bands.
Dissection and this song is legendary yo yeehaw!
Hell Yeah!

Very informative and easy to understand. Keep it up!
Thank you!

More dissection analysis!
Absolutely!
I put Jon Nodtveidt up there with Hetfield, Hanneman, Iommi, as one of the greatest metal songwriters of all time.🤘
Jon for sure is one of the best metal songwriters of all time!
Great instruction 🤘
Thank you!
Awesome, liked and subbed....keep up the good work dude.
Thanks so much!
This made me think of “Algorithmic Salvation” by Zenith Passage!
Playing Dissection while repping Absu?! Subscribed.
Two of the sickest bands ever!
its crazy that jon was only 17 when the somberlain was recorded
Absolutely. He was already a musical prodigy at such a young age.
Great lesson, subscribed! What's your action height on your guitar at the 12th fret? Thank you!
Thank you! As for the action height on my guitar at the 12th fret, I have no idea, to be honest.

Thanks for the suggestions. Those are good ones.
Check out concert pianist Lilian Liu's interpretation of the somberlain. Her stuff is fantastic. 🔥
Great Video ! You should analize the song REINKAOS 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks! I'll definitely be doing more videos on Dissection, as well as many other bands 😈
The Sombrerian?
El sombrero.

I mean it's pretty obvious that it has a key unless you were just using hyperbole
