- I just wrapped up the clinical rotation of my dietetic internship and thought it would be cool to document what my day looked like for those getting into dietetics or who are just curious :)

Thank you! I did 4 years of undergrad and 2 years for my master's.

hello im interested in becoming a dietitian working at hospitals. how long do you usually interact with patients in a day? what other healthcare worker do you interact with at work (eg.nurse). is the job predominately sedentary?
Hi there! I would say that this video and my day in the life of a dietitian are pretty accurate depictions of most days. I usually spend 1-2 hours in patient interactions (includes walking around the hospital, talking to nurses, etc) Each encounter with patients is usually 5-10 mins but there are some that are a little longer. I do feel I have lighter patient loads than what I've heard from other dietitians at other hospitals so this may vary. I mostly interact with nurses but occasionally will also talk to speech therapy and doctors and I do have interdisciplinary meetings with case management, PT/OT, pharmacy, etc. It's a somewhat sedentary job (because a lot is reviewing patient charts and then typing up your notes but I think it may also depend on your responsibilities (I also have to check on other things around the hospital so I do a little more walking than just seeing patients).

Hi! I didn't find nutrition to be hard but I love science and was always really interested in nutrition. But it can also depend on your school and curriculum. As for your master's you can pick pretty much anything- I'd recommend an area of study that you didn't study as much in undergrad. I personally got an MPH (public health).

Hi 👋 You can definitely do a master's in nutrition or dietetics (depending on the school or where you're from the specific master's may vary). It just depends on the school and the path you're looking to take if you want to become a dietitian. Some schools are coordinated and include an internship whereas others are coursework only and you will need to apply to a didactic program separately. Hope that helps!

Do you have to get the covid vaccine to do your internship?
Most hospitals require covid vaccination as well as yearly flu shots, TB titers, etc. but the specifics will also vary depending on the hospital/site.
Hello with the internship are you able to work on the side . I’m thinking about starting my degree.
Hi! I was able to work during part of my internship as it was remote (during the pandemic), however it would be unrealistic to expect to be able to work a full time job during the entire internship. The clinical and food service rotations are essentially full time jobs and are required to be in person. I quit my job before starting these rotations. If you are organized with your time, you could probably work part time on the weekends though (assuming you're not in a coordinated program with school work to do).

Should I do a diploma course to know about the food there and clinical practice ? 2. Will I be ELIGIBLE to write registered dietitian EXAM ? 3. Hi there! Income can vary a lot depending on where you live and what kind of facility you are working in. I suggest looking at the Bureau of Labor and Statistics- it should give you an idea of annual salary.
