    I was absolutely mesmerized by your voice the first time I heard it - I think your gentleness and the beauty of your soul really comes through. Then I found out you are a musician, too! Hello, fellow musician and knitter who loves to make things, whether in sound or with yarn!

    Spartan here, but Iove your Notre Dame sweater. I've knitted something like it for my little girls and now they share my alma mater.

    okay, more comments 😂 it's engagement right? the field sweater? that's a dream. I'm not brave enough to attempt a sweater. I have adhd and my brain likes small projects and they still take forever ^^ But I'm embarking on the journey - I'm going to make a very simple sweater vest (or slipover as it's called nowadays I recently learned) for my fiancee. ❤ In bamboo/cotton. I even made a swatch 🎉 I'm so proud of myself. 😊😊😊 now watching on 😂

    Hey Mark, here's a suggestion: swap that beautiful leather bag with your gorgeous and unique Barra Bear! Because then we can truly enjoy that gorgeous creature, because now we can only see his head! 🙁

    Enjoyed this fashion show and comments. I love the ND sweater ('85) - love the vintage varsity style! I may have to make one/some for granddaughter and her parents! Also, I love when people tell me I should make and sell my knitting. I kindly tell them I only knit for myself.

    What a lovely video. It is HARD being a knitter in central Texas, seeing everyone talk about their cozy and wooly fall knits when it's going to be 89F outside today. I mostly knit tees out of cotton/linen blends because they're wearable all year here.

    I enjoyed your video and your honest review of your journey. The sweaters you wear always look so well done and so well on you that weirdly, it was very touching to realize that you, like me and my friends, have been disappointed because a garment did not turn out how we'd hoped or does not fit quite right. I think that knitting not only allows us to grow our skills but also to grow our 'emotional intelligence', neither of which is an easy or straight forward path. Here's to the journey! May it be filled with smiles and only a few tears.

    This video made me feel less stressed about embarking on my second sweater. From my end, these all look fantastic. I actually wanna do a copy cat of your alma mater sweater but with my city letters. But you've shared your dislikes about most of them. Even someone more proficient than me is struggling with the end result so I shouldn't feel bad about how I'm not crazy about my first sweater.

    Thank you Mark! You are a beautiful person.
    My suggestion; don't make your sweaters too short. It's all about the balance, and your body is a bit bigger but also looks strong and confident. Don't cut it in the middle, or your biggest part by making your sweaters short; make them a bit longer, I think it will look very good on you!

    All your sweaters are beautiful and you are an accomplished knitter, to make this many sweaters in one year is amazing! I am a very slow knitter and since I returned to knitting after a very long (probably about twenty years) I haven't even attempted a sweater. Top down, in the round patterns weren't even around when I previously knitted and I can remember one sweater knitted flat and seamed taking me several months to complete.
    I really enjoyed seeing and hearing about your collection.

    I know in another video you said you don't like raglan sweaters for yourself, but I like the way they look on you. I love your choices of patterns for these sweaters. My only comment would be that I think you could add at least one more inch of length to your sleeves. I wish I was brave enough to complete some of these patterns, but I have no one to ask in person if I stumble through a section. I love listening to your videos as I knit socks for my husband.

  • @seleneyue
    @seleneyue 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Have you ever thought of overdyeing that vest? I think it would look great in a brown, navy, or green.
    I also think it would look better on you if it were 4-5 inches shorter. If it's a top-down you could consider modifying it.

  • @lynnewillette2654

    I like how you described the needle felted steek stitches “hanging out politely” on the inside of your Maja cardigan. 😊 I think the Field sweater is the most impressive sweater I’ve seen you in but I pretty much like all your sweater and colour choices. You have natural good taste. The quantity of sweaters you knit for your year of sweaters is impressive. I’m not nearly as quick as that. 🐢 I liked your critique of each project and pattern: quite helpful.

    Mark, you have done a beautiful job on all your sweaters. I especially love the Field sweater. The yoke is stunning. Isn’t Shaker Heights lovely. I lived in Geauga County back in the 60’s and would catch the Rapid Transit near Shaker Heights to get downtown Cleveland. I am sure things have changed now. I thoroughly enjoy your voice and speech pattern. Keep up the excellent knitting.

    Love love love this video and the sweaters.
    I think you would look good in a traditional Aran sweater, I think it would be an interesting and involved knit, and the history of Aran sweaters is also very interesting and you could showcase that as well.
    I honestly think traditional sweaters look better on you compared to the modern boxy shapes. I think a traditional Icelandic one would also look great on you.
    I absolutely love that you are showcasing contemporary designers and giving them credit. Would be nice to balance that with historical designs as well. I am from the Netherlands, maybe you could look up the traditional Volendam visserstruien

    Hey Mark, this was a very informative video to watch! Thank you for telling us all the pros and cons of these projects, which help us prevent making the same mistakes (eg. measuring your knit work on your lap in a moving bus, hehe). I was wondering, have you ever thought of doing a color analysis? I know you don't primarily knit 'to look great', but when we spend so much time on making a garment, we might as well choose colors that fit our skin/eye/hair color etc. and make us shine. I was lucky to have it done years ago and it helped me choose the right colors ever since. The biggest lesson I learned: the colors that I love the most aren't necessarily the colors that look best on me. It helps to have a professional prove this point... I personally think soft colors look great on you, like the Lighthouse Keeper, and then paired with a light blue jeans rather than black pants - the big black block draws the attention to your bottom half instead of to the beautiful knitwear. (But maybe you just wore those pants while showing the sweater). I don't mean to tell you what you should do and wear at all! If you hadn't asked us what we think looks good on you at the end of the video, I wouldn't have mentioned it. Just wish for you to get the most out of your wonderful knits. For more info: @useless.dk explains color analysis really well and offers online services. She is such an inspiration to me. Much love from the German Alps!

    Your grey sweater vest, try stand in front of the mirror and pull the "sleeves" a little higher up the shoulder, half an inch to an inch. You will know when you have it right, your shoulder will much sharper and marked. Have you partner help since it can be a four hand job.
    When you have it just right you alter the finish.

      Your comment makes me so happy 🙂 we should absolutely be wearing and using the things we've spent so much time making! My Scout sweaters do get pilly, just like everything else I own, and I go in with a sweater shaver and it makes a huge difference in keeping the fabric looking top-notch 🙂

    I discovered Kelbourne Woolens yarn a couple of months ago. I made the DRK Everyday sweater in Scout and am working on my own colorwork pattern with Camper. So happy I discovered your channel! 🥰 Your videos are so inspiring! I love this video, because you are so honest. Many knitters on social media (including Ravelry) are so enthusiastic about the results of their projects, not many take the time to reflect on what they REALLY like or dislike about the patterns they chose (or the yarns). So thanks a lot for this video, it makes me feel much better about my drawbacks. And it is very helpful, a lot to learn and to avoid some bloopers. A lot of new sweaters on my Ravelry favourites!
    Really excited about your videos on the Sea Glass sweater, on my project list for some time. Greetings from a little village in Schleswig-Holstein, North Germany.

    Loved seeing all your garments and hearing your experience with them. Clearly I don’t know how it feels on, but my thought about the Thea Colman vest is that you might like it better if it was a little shorter in the torso. I realize it’s knitted bottom up and it would be a huge challenge to graft, but would it be worth doing a little sweater surgery?

    I am so pleased somebody requested this!! You say you don't like the color of your Ghost in the Orchard. Maybe try to dye it? A sweater maintenance video would be nice too!! And a question: do you still work in a yarn shop (I somehow never registered you did 🤭)?

      @MakerMarkKnits  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I still work in a yarn shop! That's a wonderful idea for the sweater vest. I think I was considering that as I was making it- but then the idea completely left my mind. Thank you so much for watching and sharing that recommendation 🙂

    I really don't like mohair (I don't like fluffy things) but the soft gradient Lighthouse keeper sweater ?? Yes please ! A year or so ago I thought that if i was ever to wear mohair, it you be like that, but I had no idea if it would work. and i definitely does !!! One day maybe. Or if I could find a lace weight colour gradient yarn that is not mohair (or suri, or anything fluffy... I'm not sure it exist...) !

    What's your feelings on cutting your losses and unravelling a sweater that doesn't suit. I've learned to take a deep breath and do it, then use the wool on a different project never regretted .

    • @MakerMarkKnits
      @MakerMarkKnits  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think I'm in agreement with you 🙂 the only sweaters I wouldn't want to take apart are the ones with mohair. I think the mohair would get so matted that I would end up having to cut too much of it to salvage. I actually have a sweater waiting to be blocked that I might end up pulling back. I'll share it on the channel in the coming months and probably ask for people's opinions before I take it apart 🙂

      @MakerMarkKnits right I've never had to unravel anything with mohair, love the channel.

    Hey Mark…. Good morning 😃 putting my two cents in again…. Too bad that’s not bitcoin 😊(ie: digital $$ haha I explain only because peeps don’t get me)
    Anyhow, I digress…. My two cents: stacking sweater drying racks 🎉 just put that into your search bar and find the one ❤ be well. 😊
    Edit: okay my bad. This would work well for drying sweaters that didn’t need that ‘pinning’ to block 😊 I see. Btw I would love any of those that you don’t love. I would give them a good home

      @MakerMarkKnits  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a fantastic recommendation! I usually don't end up pinning my sweaters as they block. Typically I just lay them out in an even shape and let them dry. I might have to invest in some of those racks.

    If you steam your sweaters you don’t have to wait for them to dry!

    • @MakerMarkKnits
      @MakerMarkKnits  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a very good point! I might start steaming things and see if I'm happy with that result. Sometimes I feel like a full soak really helps the fiber settle- however, steaming may be sufficient 🙂

    Where can I find the pattern for the faraway jumper pattern?

  • @sapphirecamui6447
    @sapphirecamui6447 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    When you follow the pattern and making the adjustments for your body (size/shape/whatever), and you know you followed the instructions to a T, then you can blame it on the pattern-writer. - especially if others also complain about similar issues. -talking about the blue sweater.
    This is one of the problem people have when buying fast fashion for instance. In most of the cases, ALL clothes are made with "the ideal body shape" in mind. And this means THE Person has to fit the mold and most of us don't fit the mold.
    Or, when in recent years "activists" (with a lower IQ) demanded that the brands stopped making clothes for women/men but to make them "fit" both genders. That was the worst idea possible, and i experienced it at Zara, in the t-shirt section. the pattern block (aka the mold) changed, especially at the armpit. It was larger/longer, making the t-shirt move really strangely and uncomfortably around the body (assuming the garment WAS your size.) I stopped buying from Zara altogether because i couldn't fit into their jeans/pants, i didn't like the new cut of the t-shirts, i don't wear dresses all that much and they were too small for most of them, and same story for shoes, skirts, and blouses/shirts.
