Another fun fact: There is another animated series of yugioh that is based more on the manga. It isn't very long, only lasting little under thirty episodes. It's a good show and I recommend it. :)

In Yugi's defense at the duelist mob scene, he probably just got off a very long and possibly difficult day of high school and just wanted to go home and relax, and possibly knock out any homework assignments he may have gotten that day. He probably would have indulged a duel if it was one random duelist challenging him, but a MOB? I probably would have done the same thing.

Man this film took me back, the CW always plays this alongside the first three Pokemon movies almost every saturday afternoon especially after airing Yu-Gi-Oh marathons.
My dad actually took me to see this movie in theaters 100% unprovoked. I didn't even know the movie existed, he found out and knew I liked Yu-Gi-Oh and asked me if I wanted to go, rather than saving himself the ticket and the 100 min by not mentioning it.

Come to think of it, are there any Duel Monsters champions (besides Kaiba) who DON'T use magic to win a children's card game?
4:35, uh because Blue Eyes power literally is just it's attack points, as all kaiba did was give it a little attack point boost. Obelisk's power is due to his special ability and thus requires a little more strategy to it.
And yet in the movie it shows that his attack points are infinite. He might have used his special ability but it only increased his strength. I know the card allows the user to destroy all monsters on the opponents side of the field (with two monster sacrifices) but maybe this movie should have detailed that better.

Did you not hear me acknowledge that "Kaiba draws a card, implying that he's about to start his turn" at 14:42? My issue is that Kaiba never makes any sort of declaration about passing. Like I said, in the original Japanese, Kaiba takes a moment to consider his options, then says he's ending his turn, all of which takes about five seconds. Considering how brief the moment is, it seems pointless to cut it out. Then again, this is 4kids.

The whole yugioh series was made to get people interested in the cards, to make duelling look so much more serious and epic. This movie was made well in my opinion. The music made duelling seem so heroic. Seriously, listen to the music. Also, it was also made for the parents of yugioh fans, as an attemp to make them understand why their kids are interested in this card game. Naturally, being a movie, kids take there parents. Yugioh would be foolish not to attempt a movie. I enjoyed it although it was just a giant commercial.
Pegasus's hair is actually supposed to be silver due to him being an old man. I guess the look of it being purple is a result of bad colouring. Still funny though.
Fun fact: 4kids made this movie, and it was released in Japan later. That's why it 1: sucks and 2: looks a bit different (visually) than the entirety of the DM series.
It’s easier to get out than some cards as all you have to do is sacrifice the blue eyes ultimate dragon but it’s kinda a waste as it’s not too strong if you don’t have many blue eyes cards
I liked this review. It kept me entertained surprisingly and I thought you were funny. Plus it shows you at least know the show. Some people I know never watch the show or at least asked people about the purpose of the show. So I enjoyed it. Good job :)
not to be that guy but when yu-gi-oh was translated they jumpt over the first true season and whent right to when the card game duel monsters was introdused in the show, at first they did play other game's dice game's and more, but then season 2 came and the duel monster card game was introduced in the show.
Kazuma DoubleIce Season zero is not the same continuity. In Japan its just called "Yu-gi-oh!". The series that was released internationally was called "Yu-gi-oh! Duel Monsters" in Japan. Also both series had different animation studios. The first series being made by Toei with DM and its spinoffs by Studio Gallop.

BTW Kaiba's math was off. One of his dragons wasn't counted for Blue-Eyes Shinning Dragon's attack. If it was, Yugi would have lost. So Kaiba screwed himself instead of the rules.

The thing with Yami not just giving up is his desire to win at any cost is one of his defining traits. He was willing to murder Kaiba when Kaiba threatened to kill himself in their Duelist Kingdom duel and then later used a card he knew would put his soul at risk just to avoid losing to Rafael.

Legendoom No joke, I love BBT. Sure, the time travel is a bit confusing and Paradox could have been a better villain. But just seeing Yugi, Jaden, and Yusei appeals to my inner Yu-Gi-Oh fanboy and their interaction is just amazing. BBT has as many strengths as it does weaknesses.
I really loved this movie. I don't understand why there is SO much hate towards this and the anime, and I don't care. I thought this movie was great, and the show (along with every yugioh series afterwards) is my favorite anime series of all time. I'm sure that only people that like the show will like this movie. Everyone else probably shouldn't care about watching it.
So.... do you like this movie or not? I can kind of understand why people don't like this movie, but as a fan of the series I kind of like it. It's got a few problems, yeah, and if they removed quite a few plot points we would just have a normal episode. But I still enjoy watching this thing, just not everyday. Or every week. Or month. Also, I really like Bonds Beyond Time more than this, rather than make a plot thinner than butter scraped across too much bread, they give a basic plot (stop the bad guy and save all of time) and do nothing but straight up duel for a solid 30 minutes, no cuts to mummy fights or wandering through a stupid mind maze, just dueling.

I'll add a fun fact: When Blue Eyes Shining Dragon was released with the movie, it was unplayable. Blue Eyes Ultimate wasn't printed at the time. It would be two years before Ultimate saw print which left Shining unplayable the whole time.
Random fact 4 years late, Blue eyes shining dragon requires ultimate to summon and was released with the movie several years before ultimate dragon was available in the US so you couldn’t summon it if you wanted to.
I can explain to you about some of your questions in the movie. 1. Why yugi wouldn't surrender, he was playing a shadow game, and if you lose, then you lose your soul, so yugi feared if he surrender the duel he'd lose his soul. 2. Why yugi dueled kaiba, deep down, yugi thinks as him as a friend, so he hoped he could talk some sense into him and save him from himself. Why yugi wouldn't call the cops, cause hardly anyone used cell phones in the yugioh series, so he couldn't call the cops if he wanted to. 3. Why kaiba didn't start to look in the place where'd he'd thought he would find the strategy he needed for the defeat of the god cards, cause kaiba Is a pro duelist, so he invested in tons of ways and strategies to do it, and kaiba likes do things his way first. So when a everything else failed and he's out of ideas and is that desperate, he only had one choice what to do. So that's why. 4. Yugioh usaully likes to break/change the rules of the game for the plot to keep going, so a long time tradition. 5. Why pegasus made a card to stop the gods that only kaiba would use. Pegasus knew if there was anything that rival the power of the Egyptian gods, it was the evolved power of the most powerful dragons in all of duel monsters. And he believed his former champion, seto kaiba may one day need it, so he'd got the idea of giving him the only card that would worked for his ace monsters. So yeah. 6. Yugi is shy and timid so he didn't want to face those thugs from taking his god cards, cause they have minds of their own, so if the gods were being played by someone unworthy to use them, no telling what could happen.
Also for reason #3: Kaiba didn't learn about the God Cards until season 2, and he couldn't go to Pegasus because he said that Pegasus disappeared at the time. And he still couldn't go to Pegasus at that time, because he was busy hosting & dueling in his Battle City tournament. Also, during battle city he believed that he would get all the God Cards, not Yugi, so there wasn't a need to go looking for a way to defeat them. This movie took place between the 3rd and 4th/5th seasons, even if it's not canon.
14:16 Actually to be fair on that argument in the orginal Version Kaiba ended his turn as soon as he drew his card. Surprisingly it's the only law they didn't break in this card game. I mean Peten the Dark clown should even be able to be paired with Deck Virus. It should had been addressed in the dub nobody gonna notice the other turn begins by a draw of a card

Fourth comment: The first time I saw the Anubis dream sequence, I nearly crapped my pants. Fifth comment: You're right, Neige, they do actually spend more time talking than playing. well actually at that part around 14:37, Kaiba drawing his card *was* his turn. It wasn't really well executed for an audience to follow along with buuuut it's not against the rules.

He was actually talking about their second match against Kaiba in Duelist Kingdom, and also possibly, his match against his most infamous opponent, Rafael.
The thing with Yami not just giving up is his desire to win at any cost is one of his defining traits. He was willing to murder Kaiba when Kaiba threatened to kill himself in their Duelist Kingdom duel and then later used a card he knew would put his soul at risk just to avoid losing to Rafael.

okokokokok. you clearly have never played the game properly. Kiaba drew a card, could not do anything, ended his turn, and yugi drew a card, moved directly into his battle phase and ended his turn. it is quite simple......

In the English cut, Kaiba draws a card, then Yugi immediately takes another turn without Kaiba ever declaring that his turn is over. Trading Card Games are built around verbal communication. "I'm using this card to do this thing." Cutting out that piece of verbal communication for no reason misrepresents the very game this movie was created to sell.

This movie was so frickin' horrible that I winded up liking it just because it was that bad of a hugely cliched mess. Oh and because I was a Yugioh nerd back in the day.

Review Bonds Beyond Time
As many flaws as this movie had, Bonds Beyond Time was so much bullshit it hurts.
Legendoom No joke, I love BBT. Sure, the time travel is a bit confusing and Paradox could have been a better villain. But just seeing Yugi, Jaden, and Yusei appeals to my inner Yu-Gi-Oh fanboy and their interaction is just amazing. BBT has as many strengths as it does weaknesses.

I really loved this movie. I don't understand why there is SO much hate towards this and the anime, and I don't care. I thought this movie was great, and the show (along with every yugioh series afterwards) is my favorite anime series of all time. I'm sure that only people that like the show will like this movie. Everyone else probably shouldn't care about watching it.

So.... do you like this movie or not? I can kind of understand why people don't like this movie, but as a fan of the series I kind of like it. It's got a few problems, yeah, and if they removed quite a few plot points we would just have a normal episode. But I still enjoy watching this thing, just not everyday. Or every week. Or month. Also, I really like Bonds Beyond Time more than this, rather than make a plot thinner than butter scraped across too much bread, they give a basic plot (stop the bad guy and save all of time) and do nothing but straight up duel for a solid 30 minutes, no cuts to mummy fights or wandering through a stupid mind maze, just dueling.

I don’t if you went to see this movie in theaters but when this was at the theater I went several times to it to try to get the blue eyes shining dragon card but I never got it but oh well not like I could have played it back then because there was no blue eyes ultimate dragon but I was just curious how rare was it to pull from the random movie packs that they gave anyone for each ticket purchase!
I actually got a Shining Dragon because someone left one sitting on a display for whatever Resident Evil movie was out at the time.

Neige, if you're wondering why this has no effect on the continuation of the series, this movie was actually taking place BEFORE the final episode in Japan.
I'll add a fun fact: When Blue Eyes Shining Dragon was released with the movie, it was unplayable. Blue Eyes Ultimate wasn't printed at the time. It would be two years before Ultimate saw print which left Shining unplayable the whole time.
Random fact 4 years late, Blue eyes shining dragon requires ultimate to summon and was released with the movie several years before ultimate dragon was available in the US so you couldn’t summon it if you wanted to.

I can explain to you about some of your questions in the movie.
1. Why yugi wouldn't surrender, he was playing a shadow game, and if you lose, then you lose your soul, so yugi feared if he surrender the duel he'd lose his soul.
2. Why yugi dueled kaiba, deep down, yugi thinks as him as a friend, so he hoped he could talk some sense into him and save him from himself.
Why yugi wouldn't call the cops, cause hardly anyone used cell phones in the yugioh series, so he couldn't call the cops if he wanted to.
3. Why kaiba didn't start to look in the place where'd he'd thought he would find the strategy he needed for the defeat of the god cards, cause kaiba Is a pro duelist, so he invested in tons of ways and strategies to do it, and kaiba likes do things his way first.
So when a everything else failed and he's out of ideas and is that desperate, he only had one choice what to do. So that's why.
4. Yugioh usaully likes to break/change the rules of the game for the plot to keep going, so a long time tradition.
5. Why pegasus made a card to stop the gods that only kaiba would use. Pegasus knew if there was anything that rival the power of the Egyptian gods, it was the evolved power of the most powerful dragons in all of duel monsters. And he believed his former champion, seto kaiba may one day need it, so he'd got the idea of giving him the only card that would worked for his ace monsters. So yeah.
6. Yugi is shy and timid so he didn't want to face those thugs from taking his god cards, cause they have minds of their own, so if the gods were being played by someone unworthy to use them, no telling what could happen.
Also for reason #3: Kaiba didn't learn about the God Cards until season 2, and he couldn't go to Pegasus because he said that Pegasus disappeared at the time. And he still couldn't go to Pegasus at that time, because he was busy hosting & dueling in his Battle City tournament. Also, during battle city he believed that he would get all the God Cards, not Yugi, so there wasn't a need to go looking for a way to defeat them. This movie took place between the 3rd and 4th/5th seasons, even if it's not canon.

14:16 Actually to be fair on that argument in the orginal Version Kaiba ended his turn as soon as he drew his card. Surprisingly it's the only law they didn't break in this card game. I mean Peten the Dark clown should even be able to be paired with Deck Virus. It should had been addressed in the dub nobody gonna notice the other turn begins by a draw of a card

Going off that: In the game, you can draw a card and then imidiately end your turn! Judging by the fact that you own a duel disk, I assume you would know that is possible in the game. Also, I looked this up: the movie came out in America in August 2004, then came out in Japan in March 2005.
