The Top 6 Most Overshadowed Pokémon

  • Sometimes Pokémon are close enough in one way or another that people start to compare them or link them together, and this can result in one coming out on top over the others, (such as Pikachu or Charizard) however those poor Pokémon at the bottom still deserve some recognition, so let's see how certain Pokémon have become overshadowed in one form or another, because we know no one else will...

Flygon got it the roughest. Salamance just keeps getting every single new gimmick under the sun _after_ stealing the thunder of pretty much every other Dragon that existed at the time, Garchomp was pushed hard to steal its formerly unique typing while becoming the mascot of one of the most popular NPCs in the franchise, and it didn't even get to make this list. #JusticeForFlygon

Idk… I don’t like Salamance and have had far more success using Flygon than either Salamance or Garchomp. Flygon is so popular that I don’t think we can truly say that it is over shadowed.

I've loved Maushold from the very start, and it was one of my core members on my Scarlet playthrough team. Technician-boosted Population Bomb is a MONSTER and despite their simplistic design, I think they're adorable. Their shiny form is objectively terrible, with the light-blue switching to a pale yellow making it near impossible to see, but that's really my only flaw with them.

  • @bewarebewear1507

And the pokemon company has now made a good amount of different tandemaus and maushold plushes. Also maushold is the first paldea pokemon that got a whole official merch line with maushold tissue boxes, socks, plushes, hoodies, etc.

To me the biggest example of overshadowed Pokémon will always be Simisear.
Imagine you come in a trio of pseudo-starters, a brand new concept and you're even the ace of a gym leader; but they made you a mid fire monkey. Not only you have to live up to the standards of Infernape, one generation before, but in the SAME generation, a few cities later, Darumakka and Darmanitan are available. You're not the best fire monkey introduced in your own generation.
It's kinda like Zarude's situation, but I think it is worse because at least Zarude has a movie and is a Mythical. What Simisear gets is bottom of popularity pools.
PS: I have no idea why Clobbopus and Grapploct aren't half water type. Honestly it makes no sense to me. And not in the way "oh, they do fish of different types now so it isn't boring". There were 2 other Pokémon with that typing when it was made and it is something that would absolutely be miserable outside of water; even its own dex entries are like "yeah it goes out of water but its quick to go back". I think it upsets me the most because it would be the only pokémon introduced ever maybe besides Poliwrath that would make any sense for Crasher Wake to use/have and it isn't a water type.

Imo the most overshadowed pokemon is Wiscash.
Quagsire has the benefit of being the first water ground type, and has a cult following due to its adorable derpiness.
Seismetoad had the advantage of debuting in the reboot gen so people who loved the typing gravitated to it.
(Edit) Gastrodon is also a popular one and my fav. Not the highest stats but gen 5 gave it a niche with storm drain that directly overshadowed quagsire (who had water absorb)

Glaceon being overshadowed by both Leafeon and every ice type in Sinnoh. You can get a Leafeon as early as you get an Eevee in Platinum, where as Glaceon you get after three other gym fights at least, at which point you also have other much better ice types available like Mamoswine, Froslass and even Abomasnow. Not to say it's stats are nothing that impressive compared to the other eeveelutions that you ALSO HAVE MUCH EARLIER ACCESS TO. I never had any interest in using a Glaceon to begin with, but is very rough for the people that like this mon.
I just looked at it's stats, and they're much better than I remembered, but still, Espeon is a faster special attacker with the same special bulk, Jolteon is faster than all the other eevveelutions and hits pretty hard too, Vaporeon has a much better typing and is arguably even bulkier, and Umberon and Sylveon (in later games) are the ones you should go with if you want a defensive eeveelution. Guess that only leaves Flareon for competition then... Guess they're both overshadowed eeveelutions then.

    • @emperorcubone
      @emperorcubone  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

You know, that's a great point actually; in its debut games Glaceon was stuck by the seventh gym, while Leafeon was there since before #2. "But wait, Bruxish is from gen 7" you might say! And to that I say: I'm huge into Pokemon, so it's exceptional that it took two generations after its introduction before I even noticed the thing. And if there's any niche that's even more oversaturated than early-route birds and rodents, it's the underwhelming midgame fish used to populate the Surf routes.

Maushold's taking the gimmick of combo 'mons in a new direction makes them stand out enough for me - I'd probably more compare it to exeggcute or falinks than any of the normal types you compared it to. As for shroodle, it's likely based on a shrew, which actually isn't a rodent, and instead a relative of hedgehogs and moles. Its evolving into grafaiai also might be inspired by tree shrews, which are closer to rodents than actual shrews are, but still aren't actually rodents, actually being offshoots of primates. I suspect by "rodent" you really meant "any mammal that's roughly smaller than a cat" but that's not what the word actually means, so I must nitpick when it's used that way.
I do agree regarding pidove, it and pikipek kind of got the short end of the stick as regional birds, considering that there have been plenty actually strong regional birds like staraptor, corviknight and talonflame, while these guys ended up being pretty useless by comparison. And yeah, it didn't help unfezant that it got stuck not even being the strongest normal/flying type for the first gen since gen 1.
I could pretty easily rattle off zarude's being from gen 8, probably helps that it happens to have the same first 2 letters of its name as the box art legends. It apparently is more likely based on a lemur than an actual monkey, which is pretty rare, so I guess it's got that, but I can't say I could recall what this legendary's legend actually is, so I guess it still falls flat that way. And I'll agree that its form change was pretty redundant, as I'd say most purely cosmetic form changes are. Though honestly, I'd probably remember this guy before zeraora, at least it's the 6th legendary in its gen in the dex instead of being stuck right in the end behind a cavalcade of ultra beasts and having one of the only 2 pokémon with a giga form from a gen besides 1 and 8 beat it for the final gen 7 spot.
Didn't think of how girafarig overshadowed stantler before, but I guess it did in quite a few ways. I always saw girafarig as being kind of forgotten itself, and thought it was kind of cool it was remembered and given an evolved form in gen 9, but come to think of it, you've got a point of how it kind of one-upped stantler for a second time.
I've heard you talk about clobbopus's being unavailable before its evolved form before, and do agree that was a bit of a weird choice to make it a de-facto pre-evolution when it was introduced in the same gen as its evolved form. That octopuses are my favourite animal yet I still often forget clobbopus exists really says something about how the developers botched this guy's publicity.
I wouldn't say jynx is overshadowed, as no pokémon comes close to its level of infamy except maybe porygon, but c'mon, no one thinks there's any problem with porygon itself, it's the episode it happened to be in that's infamous. And yeah, Mr. Mime and the rest of its line are kind of uncanny, but they'll never truly fill the chillingly shudder-inducing shoes of jynx, no matter how they try.

Videos like these miss something very important. It’s argued that sawsbuck replaced the deer niche, that’s it’s obviously better so why ever use stantler. Or that grafaiai is part poison so why ever use tandemaus. There’s a simple answer. Because sawsbuck doesn’t look like stantler. Grafaiai doesn’t look like maushold.
