Cougar bars are the only boots you should ever wear on a roof. I have the regular roof boots that have this super grippy velcro soul to them that's replaceable. And you definitely need it replaceable because once they're go they disintegrate quickly. They also wick away the heat of the roof somehow. And make it much cooler for you to be walking on it if you're on there with your sneakers you can almost feel the things melting underneath you and that heat transfer is right into your feet.. one of the sweatiest parts of our bodies
My concern is they would collect metal shavings or something like that and scratch the roof.

@@goiterlanternbase The boots aren't magnetized on purpose. This isn't normal. That's why they're showing it in the video. Normally it's just a real big thick pad of soft rubber. That's extra grippy and that's why they're good on roofs

for those who don't know, the shoes is not magnetic but the the screw is, the shoes is just a steal toe shoes so it attract the screw/magnets, if you want to confirm it, grab any screw in your house and put close to any metal, the magnet is not very strong and it's on the head.

Try the regular cougar paws brother, they are used by shingle roofers and are essentially just cushion pads on the soles of your boots

Just used mine today to coat a 30k sqft roof, basically saved my life. There not the strongest magnets but just enough to keep you from sliding

@@richardcarlson5151 I’m no expert when it comes to really pitched roofs I am a flat commercial roofer and without these boots I would not have been able to do some of these pitched metal roofs. Metal roof are not like shingles, they have no grip at all after a certain amount of pitch especially when covered in dirt and leafs.

But even with the harness if I didn’t have these boots I would’ve been slipping everywhere and even tho I would be safe I wouldn’t be able to get any work done if I can’t walk

Don’t they suck, we were on a 11/12 standing seam. My 120$ ariats had more grip than them. Picked up every piece of metal that was cut, scraped parts of the roof. They just suck.
I’ve done a ton of roofs and of all the shoe and boots I’ve wore I think Xtratuff has the best grip on metal

In Australia, longer screws are used for assembly metal roof and they are screwed into the protruding part of the roof, not as flat as in the video. The rubber seal may crack.
Yeah that isn't the way we do it what happens is that the screw gets put in too far and dents the rib and causes a leak it's easier to drill all the holes in the flat part before putting them on the roof

I've actually had these on. They work great, sometimes too good. When walking on a poor quality snap lock style, I've actually disengaged a panel seam before. But only if the assembly was really bad (when inspecting others)

Thst was the realest "gimmie" ive ever heard
These might have been useful the day I ended up using a metal roofing job as a waterslide after it started to rain. Fortunately I came off the roof and landed square on both feet falling from over 30 ft. Just fell back and nearly cracked my head on the trailer (about an inch off) falling. Shaky knees immediately but I was laughing said that was fun and got right back on the horse (after things dried up) so to speak. Only injury was I caught and ripped open one finger on a screw head in the metal on the way down.
Immediately remembered "Rick and Morty": "Put on these boots, Morty, you can walk in them wherever you want, on rocks, on mountains, on all kinds of inclined surfaces...
Damn, Morty, you had to turn them on first! Turn you buts!"

I do solar in Utah, wish these would work on wet roofs. Had a coworker slip and fall trying to clear snow off of one. I’d have our safety guy ball out on some pairs for our crew!
Atleast with snow you’ll know it’ll be slick. Worst part is the morning dew, only times i’ve slipped off a roof. Either staying on the ground until the sun comes out for a bit or crawling on the roof and praying someone catches you when you start slipping, no stopping once in motion haha.
