Are Both Lighting IR4 uplights worth it? My 6-month experience

- Many of you know that I am a big fan of Both Lighting lights. All of my uplights are from Both, as are my movers. I recently gave all 160 of my S4 uplights to my veteran DJs on staff and bought several sets of the newer, smaller IR4 uplights. Here is my honest review of them after using them for six months.

Hey, great videos! I was wondering if you could do a quick video with like 3-8 IR4s set up in the 4 sound modes with some music playing so i can see what they look like?

@@DJJoeBunn do you recommend the sound modes for a live band? I’m just getting into lighting and thought an 8-pack would be cool. I saw a video of the Apelabs sound mode and it is a lot cooler than most sound modes that just hot with the beat all the time
It's fine. Nothing amazing. I prefer some sort of control over my lights these days hence why I'm all in on Soundswitch now. But that won't work for bands. Google that Maestro DMX thing.

whats the dimensions on the box?
I get signal of mine. I just ordered 32 of these and some will change, some will not. Maybe I need to change to a different wifi channel??
Not sure. I have had ever better results with these than I did with my S4
White or Black is the only question. I have 16 Black S4’s. I tend to go with the black ones.
How would you compare these to the Rockville Rockwedges? Also, how long does it take for these IR4's to fully charge?
Never used Rockville ones. And can't say I know charge time. See if you can find Rick Web's video on them. I am sure he says it.
I've only had my Rockwedges for a few months, and bought the Both wedges and IR4 Minis which came yesterday.. but I'll say this -- the IR4 Minis can "master/slave" with the Rockwedges and Both wedges.
IR4 Mini has to be master though, but everything else can be slave and they work perfectly together.
i think the reason that the ir4 don't lose the signal is because it has wireless transcievers inside that are repeating the dmx signal.... pretty similar like beamz uplighs which i own (that's the european version of jmaz)
You sure about this? I don’t think they do. Only ape labs do that as far as I know.
What’s the most amount of hours you’ve gotten out of the IR4??
Mine usually run close to 6 and still have charge in them.
The S4’s have a much narrower beam than the IR4. It’s simple optic physics. You can’t focus a beam of light with such a flat design, the lenses are too wide and they look more like washes than strainght uploghts.
If you can’t see the difference when you put them next to S4’s you either need a pair of glasses or you’ve never actually tried. I have 16 of each (IR-4’s and S4’s) and I use the it-4’s at the back of the room and the S4’s around the dancefloor because the S4’s look much sharper.
Basically the IR4’s are affordable wash lights. Other than that you can’t beat the price.
Before anyone buys these, the color mixing is not all that great. Best to Dmx these and color mix specific colors instead
How is the "warm white"? That's what separates so many of these lights. Everyone wants warm white and a lot of uplights have bad color separation.
I bought the bigger ones. They are crap. I bought 10 of them with that case. They don’t even last 3 hours on full charge. Many of them don’t even charge up to 100%. No wander both lighting sell them cheap.
I have 125 of those too, and if there were any issues, it was after years of abuse. I think you got a bad batch. Have you reached out to Rick at Both?
I bought them straight from the lady in china.
The only problem I have with them is that they do last. After about two hours they turn off and many of them don’t charge 100%. It’s very frustrating
