And I'm 78, just slightly younger than Roland. I was watching his video of him putting those bumpers on each side of his canoe and he was sitting cross legged on a concrete garage floor. Well I wondered if I could do that. Well, couldn't stand it anymore, paused the video and sat down on the floor cross legged. Then I wondered if I could get back up. Well, I did and was proud of myself and Roland. He goes on with his project which was to eventually fall out of the canoe and climb back in. OK, I haven't been to the lake yet, but buddy when I do you know what I'm going to do, yessir. Hey, 80 is the new 70. And, if the conditions are right I'll be throwing a Devil Horse or some top water.
I was turned onto fishing the Devil's Horse by Mr. Roland Martin in the early 90's, I think it was a magazine article. I caught my biggest bass with one.
That is what i love about your generation of bass fisherman now dont get me wrong i love the modern bass fisherman they are changing the game bringing younger kids into the industry but with u Mr. Martin u dont need fancy b roll and fancy edits just u and the water and the biggest plus in my eyes is the teaching ur doing in ur videos you are a legend and could just fun fish for the rest if ur life and nobody would care but instead ur out here teaching us a thing or too i love it please keep the vids coming i hope to meet u one day u are my idol ur son also and to shake ur hand one day would be a great honor.
One of my favorite all time topwater bait styles. I use something very similar made by Sam Griffin over in Moorehaven. In that case it’s called a Moonshine Special. Really enjoy your canoe fishing adventures. It’s getting me back into my own canoe . We sometimes forget simple dependable gear is still going to get us to the fish. Thanks Roland for a few minutes of joy. Keep the fun coming sir 👍😁
Roland Martin Outdoors That’s something I’ve always wanted to do. He makes up lures for us every year for our annual Lake of the Woods Canadian trip. It’s a special tradition our family has had for decades. Each trip every angler makes their first and cast with a Mr Sam’s lure. Sometimes those casts and the many in between produce great fish. This year is the first in over 50 years a member of our family is not fishing Canadian waters. COVID prevented the trip.
I grew up fishing in Minnesota in the spring and Florida in the summer/fall every year with my snowbird grandparents. Our lures of choice were the Jelly Worm and Flatfish up north, then topwater lures and Jelly Worms down south. My retirement plan involves fishing and grandkids of my own and you'd better believe that I bought a half dozen Devils Horse lures to get me started!
I follow lunkerstv and Scott Martin because i grew up watching Roland 25 years ago and just seen Roland had a channel as he called Rob at lunkers. This is amazing!!!
So today I put my deposit down on a 2021 tracker pro team 175 twx with a 75hp Mercury. As I was filling out the paper work it asked how did you hear about us. So I put Roland Martin. Now lets see if I can practice everything you have been showing us. Thanks for a great video.
Ol devils horse!! I love me some top water action!! You can't beat it. Unfortunately I'm gonna have to wait to fish again since I got all my fishing gear this past weekend!!😖 I'll just watch your videos and imagine myself fishing with you for now. Haha
We fish a Bitters swimbait on the surface right over the grass the same way you do the horse...Explosive results...Love fishing the same waters as a Legend...Stay Safe
I'm thinking about how much money I'd be willing to spend to be the second guy in that canoe...holding a fishing rod not a camera. Roland you're the best... thank you so much for making these videos
Roland...I watch you almost every night. I wish you would get your ass out of that canoe and back into one of your bass boats before an alligator bites your hand or turns you over and eats you. Furthermore, it can’t be comfortable sitting there without any support or being able to stand up. You are an eighty year old miracle, don’t push your luck. Love you man.
Another great fishing video Roland, love watching your videos. Been a fan for decades. Devil's horse is a classic, one of the best top water lures ever made. Northern pike love them as well folks. Not just a bass lure
I grew up in SE Tennessee, my dad was Roland Martin fan from the 70's on, I have the exact same Devils Horse (white w/black stripes) in my box that's got to be 30 years old. Kid's these days with their fancy whopper-ploppers, Devils Horse, Zara Spook and Jitterbug are where it's at ;)
First blow up on the top water Roland misses him sends the devil horse flying....cameraman...”you got me!” Roland: Ehh and commences to fishing with the senko lmao!! Focused warrior right there !!
I’ve been watching you sir for the better part of 2 years. It never stops amazing me how your true enjoyment and fun comes thru in these videos! I know you use to guide on the Santee Cooper water system. I live in Summerville, SC and fish Moultrie, Marion, and the Cooper river. If I won a Make A Wish , my wish would be to fish with you on Santee Cooper. I’m new to Bass fishing ( 1 yr ) and new to tournament fishing in these parts. Kinda tired of not knowing where to go all the time!! Anyhow I love your videos sir and you are a true legend! Brian from SC
Man Roland that 8lber exploded on that devils horse, I had a big grin watching you fight that hog.. I have been tarpon and snooks every day on my charters it has been really some great stuff need to get you up here these snook slam the heart tail grub
Good evening from Ohio, Roland would you happen to know off hand what # that lure is? Awesome videos by the way!!! Keep the good video’s coming, you’ve taught me a lot thanks & God bless...
I saw this video when it first aired and bought me a couple of 4 or 5. I haven't fished them yet Roland l have been under the weather.i had a little walking pneumonia and nerve problems in my right leg thanks to agent orange. They said my heart attack was caused by the same. I may have to get a up walker jus y to fish! I lonve your instructional videos, man they teached me a great amount even though i been fishing all my life. Thamk you Sir.
Today I learned the “line watching” reason. I was in some small bass feeding on a swarm of moths that were landing on the water and driving the small bass crazy. I was tossing a sinko and working the bottom of shallow water, maybe 3 feet deep at the most. I felt nothing but saw my line moving sideways and slightly towards me. I yanked my rod and set the hook. Fun fun fun.
Lord yes, I think I have two left from years ago. Yep, they work and what a show. Nothing like the thrill of a top water strike whether it locks up or not.
Great video! Now, what the heck was the name of that top water propeller hard bait? Just kidding. Thank you Sir for the lesson. Like going to school. 2 thumbs up.
Roland I live in the Pacific Northwest and am trying to bank fish for bass but am having trouble finding the fish. What would you suggest for bait to try and what technique should I use?
I've fished the Smithwick Devels Horse for over 40 years. They DO catch Bass. Take the Propeller Blade off the FRONT & it really walks side to side. Work it SLOW for a fantastic teaser bait. Good Luck top water fishing.
@@daddyosink4413 My Grandpa would catch a lot of Bass on the old Yellow Hula Popper. About 57 Years Ago, as I remember. I wished they would have had the Grass Frogs, like in today's time.
Rodney Green don’t take it off. Get a Toothpick (bladeless Devils Horse. Fish both. Been fishing both since I could walk and they are the best top water baits made hands down.
I take off the center set of treble hooks and still hook bass well. I've been stuck in the thumb too many times by the center hooks flopping around freely
I watched a 5lb bass eat a baby coot right in front of me in my back yard. The next day took a black Jitterbug with Sharpie red lip and hooks and caught him. Always take a few colors to the Amazon, no Office Depots in the jungle.
Enjoying your videos Roland. I'm up here in Nova Scotia, Canada. I mostly fish for smallmouth. Just wondering if you enjoy fishing for smallmouth and if so what lures do you like using the most for smallmouth.
Great video. But I would like to see you post the links to the equipment you are using. Once I've seen the video, I don't have the data for reference later.
GREAT VIDEO!!! This video teaches us how to use Devils Horses. I think you are using 1/2oz in this great video. I have both of 3/8oz and 1/2oz…. How do you decide which one you use? MANY THANKS!!!
Love these videos, but I'd like to humbly request that the cameraman actually focus more on the lure in the water. I mean, we can still hear RM just fine...but I'd love to see the fish hit the topwater lure in an episode like this. Not complaining, but just a thought.
Tom B Tom B I agree! I’m often interested in his technique and how he retrieves. The pace in which the line is reeled and where his target is at. The audio is good but more focus on the cast and retrieval would be superb.
@@garycox6169 Well then he drinks a lot of coffee. He moves the camera around a fair bit, so I don't think he's fishing all the much. He just doesn't quite pan the camera over far enough to catch the lure in the water. It's not a bit deal with RM is using a Senko for instance, as it's moving slowly anyway. But for something like a surface lure, it'd be really nice to see the action...
Great video Mr. Martin! I got into the devils horse because of you and it’s my favorite in my tackle box. Quick question, do you switch out the hooks? If so, what do you use? Thank you 🙏🏼
Look at that youngster in the Canoe! Roland Rocks
This is kinda funny livin the good life!!!! With a 1,2 punch 🤛 to bass fishin

Oh man, two of my favorites for learning about fishing. I would love to see this collaboration happen!

Devils Horse is a classic lure. Still works, still catches fish like my hero, Roland the great American fisherman

CATCHIN Bass.
1974 or ‘75 for me
Todd Knox they’re still being made.
Roland I love fishing to water especially a frog if you don’t mind telling me. What type devil horse was that you are using?
It's the black and white striped fat model
Roland Martin Outdoors Thank you! I’ll send you a picture of the next Frog or Devil horse fish I catch .

Mr.Martin do you upgrade the hooks on your Devil horse or just use the hooks that come on it? Thanks for the great channel.
Often I'll put gamakatsu hooks on it!
Im mew too the channel i saw you call lunkers and decided too check you out n i love it
Love the top water never thought of hitting the same spot again with a sanko right after a top water hit! Still learning from the master

Do a day in shop showing how you improve a factory plug
I have that cap Rolands wearing! it's my Favorite cap...
