You are spot on about keeping the small bass, and release the big bass. Some of those small bass are 5-10 years old and will never get big, and they compete for food with the new spawn bass, keeping the young ones from getting big.

3 MONTHS huh? well take it from someone who fished bass for 46 YEARS... practice, practice, practice your casting. learn what the fish are doling when you are fishing a body of water in regards to the time of year, time of day, water conditions, clarity, temp, forage availability and presence of cover. kno that its less about the ACTUAL lure than it is to put the bait right in front of the fish. you can have the wrong bait on the right day and still get a strike. but you can have the right bait on the right day, and if you cant put it in front of a bass... you wont get jack. think like a fish! to catch a fish. just thot i would pass some knowledge your way that you didnt have to search for... msg me if you want. Morgan is here to help young anglers... i know what i said is real generalized.... but if you search what general advises i gave you, then you will get the specifics. oh yeah, avoid paralysis of analysis and dont break the bank at the bait shoppe! JIG, PLASTIC WORM (AND CREATURE BAIT) CRANKBAIT, JERKBAIT BUZZBAIT, SPINNERBAIT. THATS IT. as far as artificials... night crawlers, shiners, CRAWDADDY'S shad and bluegill for live baikt when the bite gets tough in the winter. 90% of my fish, BIG fish come from jig and plkastic worm period. and of coarse i endorse ol'Roland's 65 lb. braid. its the only way to fish. cheers.

    Roland,
Thanks for explaining and demonstrating pitching and flipping. Everyone always talks about it but I never really knew the technique and reasons behind it.
Thanks to your guidance, I recently bought a new Favorite rod (my first) a high speed reel and spooled with 65# braid.
It was bought for the sole purpose of frog fishing but now I know something else I can use it for.

Hey Roland, I remember years ago you showing spider wire rod and reel combos and the spider wire braided line .. You showed the magic marker tip of slicing the marker tip with a knife and marking the line 1 or 2 inches and skipping up the line another 1 or so and making another mark .. It sounded like overkill at the time but since you said it I tried it and have camouflaged my braid like you showed every since and always will the light and dark contrast really helps break up and make the line harder to see .. I still have the spider wire spinning rod n reel combo and the casting rod and between my son and me fishing those same setups over the years many fish have been caught .. I don't fish them much anymore and think I'm going to just hang on to them because after all the abuse they still do the job they were built to do. I have appreciated your advice and opinions every since and am so glad to see you are still just as excited and enthusiastic about bass fishing after all this time. Much respect for the time and energy you have put in to bass fishing and the great influence you have had on who knows how many people. I wonder how many people like myself are fishing today who wouldn't be anywhere close to decent fishermen if you had kept quiet and not chose to share your passion with us .. I will always stop and listen to hear what you are saying on tackle and all things fishing related. Thanks man and keep up the great work...

Sir, I'm a crazy hardworking fisherman and a sponge for information and I've tried all the tips and still go days without catching a fish or getting a bite. Was wondering if maybe I should maybe focus on one or two types of baits and learn them really well. I have good casting skills and work a jig and spinnerbait pretty well. I also focus on shallow water the lakes here are shallow, weedy , and muddy. Your thoughts. Thanks for your time.

Thanks Roland. I never really knew the difference between pitching and flipping. I only use spinning reels, and have all my life since 12 years old when I started with and garcia rod and a mitchell reel. I am 66 years old now. I assume I can sort of do these with a spinning reel. I pretty much fish from a kayak exclusively, so I am at water level. Maybe you could develop a black braid line.
