Todd, I am blown away! Not by all the incredible construction in your area, nor the improvements made to the restaurant by the people who are renting it from Neenee, nor even by your dexterity with the drone! All that pales into insignificance compared with Mina's news that she has made it to 4th in class out of 36 pupils. What an incredible achievement for a little girl who had little education before coming to live with you and Neenee. She will go far because of her environment and the loving care you both give her, but mainly because of her own dogged determination. I wonder how many other children there are coming from similar difficult backgrounds who, given the right circumstances could have the same potential as Mina has. It made me think. Message for Mina. "Mina you are such a good girl for Mama and Papa. You have done so well at school and you should be very proud of yourself. I know that you will work as hard as you can and one day be number 1. All of us who watch you on Papa's vlog are so excited for you. Well done Mina we love you." Thanks so much for sharing Todd. you and Neenee are such good parents to Mina and are bringing her up to be a very special child who will never forget where she came from but who will aspire to do more for those whom she calls family. She is indeed a credit to you. I am so impressed that she can now string English (or Aussie) sentences together now, how clever is that! Praying for you all and for healing for Neenee's foot. Many expats are building mansions in Laos. The real estate market in Laos is a bargain if you compare to the USA, Europe, or Japan. I plan to build a homestead in Laos and live off the land. I will install solar power panels on my roof.

Incredible drone footage in this video. Some really impressive development of that area around Neenee's land in a such a short time. That massive house is something to behold. I would love to have that on the top of a mountain somewhere in southeast Asia. And Mina is smart little girl! I love her confidence and smile.

Puggs is right.. it will always be Aus each year for family, plus with Neenee being a resident there it's easy to come and go as we like, whereas visa's for her and Mina to the US would be much more difficult, and the cost factor these days. When I was still working in Aus 6 months of the year we could've managed it, hell we were even holidaying in the Philippines visiting my cousin every other year, but now with just the channel, it's a bit out of our reach. We have no overseas plans other than family in Aus unfortunately.
Mina's goals are priceless .. go from 4th to number 1 in progressive steps. Awesome little lady who is being given a chance to shine by Todd and Neenee. No wonder you are proud of her mate .. we all are. That big house is ugly give me the traditional wood homes anyday they can be made a home. Great drone footage gives a true perspective of the area. The house is large because the real estate market in Laos is a bargain. Many people want to live the good life in a warm climate. Expats from Europe, Korea, China, and other places are attracted to Laos for many reasons.
It is great to watch Mina growing up so happy. 4-3-2-1 she has her goals. That's wonderful. We're all proud of her too. Well done Todd. Thanks.

I drove pass an obscene house last Friday near the mekong river, took a picture. Flew to Savannakhet, here it is quiet , compare to Vientiane
Owner of that house is the owner of the bank behind the building.

On my way over in a week. I find it amazing how people living hand to mouth live right next door to such wealth. I would like to see the whole country increase its standard of living, but it is hard to watch the gap in wealth there. Some may live in splendor, but when you take a shower in downtown, if the hotel does not have a filtration system, you have to keep your mouth shut because the water in the capitol is not safe to drink. I have more in common with the daily working slogs than I do with those people that build those monstrosities.
Todd , with all the changes that are happening all around you in Vientiane and your own neighborhood . How has the quality of your life with Neenee and Mina improved or not ?
Is there reason why people in your neighborhood like big houses? Very affordable houses for people who live in the US . And were do you think it will be like in five years?

Some grocery items are more easily available now for me than it was a few years back. Don't really miss for anything here now. The big homes.. Just a status thing. It's the same all over Laos.. if they have money they like people to know it. I have heard one of those meg-mansions house just a couple and their 2 children but it's the size of Disneyland 😆Where will what be in 5 years.. House and land prices? In the city even more.. all the vacant land close to the city is getting snapped up quickly.. it's incredible how quickly it has developed around us since I moved hear. Just a few years ago I was videoing lady's catchng frogs and snails in the rice fields behind our house with nothing else but the road in the distance. Now all built out.. 🙁

Todd, I'm glad to see your drone footage. I was in Luang Prabang and Nong Khiaw last May and it really takes me back. I honestly can't wait to get back to Laos with the whole family. Well this video brought home so many memories for us both Todd. The first being that bloody round a bout that I got smoked on mate. We honestly did pick the best part in Vietiane to stay at honestly while looking back. Honestly we both wished we were there to walk along the river with you and Mina. Honestly this walk is up there with anything we have done mate.

Looks like a nice restaurant. Hopefully through advertising and “word of mouth” the business will do well. The location is out of the way and in a residential area so it may be tough. He’ll be catering to a more “well to do” clientele from the locals. Business should pick up post CoVid with all sorts of tourists, including Lao visitors and of course Chinese, Korean, and Japanese travelers. 🙏👍🏻

Howdy Todd,,Wow! Mina is definitely a genius. That girl is going to amaze us,,maybe not surprise us,,because I was expecting this,,as I'm sure you were also. The best thing,,she's going to be a human that is sweet,kind and lovable ❤! Tell her Uncle Marlon is proud of her. That house is a steal and you were ABSOLUTELY correct in what you said about it being a bargain. In the past 30 years ago I lived in a resort town in Wyoming,,,middle of nowhere. In that county only 3 percent of the land is private property,,so lots were and are at a premium. During my time there I worked on 5 or 6 multi million dollar places. They were all on from 5 to 25 acre lots. I think the 25 acre lot was something like 5 mill,,now it would be 25 to 30 mill. The house was for a nationally famous lawyer,,he was a network commentator for famous cases,,when he wasnt the lead lawyer. Filthy rich after doing this for 40 years. Yet he was a kind,down to earth Wyoming kid at heart. On this lot,,he was building a 26,000 square foot house,,out of logs no less,,it was a gorgeous house. If I remember correctly,,the total cost of lot and house was 26 to 30 million,,,back in 93 or 94. It wasnt the most expensive house in the county though! I also worked on a house that was 17 mill for 12 square feet,,a big part of that one was transport,,truckloads that came 25 miles up gravel roads from the nearest highway,,some stuff he had flown in by helicopter. We also worked on a private runway ,that was 12 miles from the house,,all on the same ranch,,this runway was 7500 feet long,,long enough you could land a 747 there. Crazy rich,,but he was opposite of the lawyer,,he was a greedy,,selfish,,hateful old shitbird. So,, you are right,,for a house like that in a Capitol city ,dirt cheap. If I were to guess,,I'd say 15 to 20 thousand square feet for that house,,but who knows. I never had any idea the restaurant looked like that,,under the foliage. Its beautiful. It's also unbelievable how many places have been built since I've been watching. Interesting video Todd,,hope Neenee is feeling better,,the older a person gets,,the more broken bones hurt,,and I'm not saying Neenee is old,,lol. I'll tell Dad about Mina's progress,,in the morning. Houses aren't expensive in Laos. It's only expensive when you want to live this close to the centre of the capital. We're only 8 minutes to the CBD and the tourist area. This same house 30 minutes further out would be less than half the price.
If it was in London it would be 100 million dollars.

A home like that one for 500k would be around 6 to 9 million Canadian maybe more depending on the area were I live in British Columbia Canada.
Hi mate, I wouldn't want to live in those places. We grew up in the 3 beda 1 bathroom joint in logan city. I am happy in my moderate house just wished I had more room for a bigger outdoor area.

Sadly as some observes predicted over 20yrs ago when chinese money started to pour into Laos that economicaly it would end up becoming a Chinese colony are sadly coming true! The railways hotels factories are Chinese owned the profits from these flow back to China and that will cost Laos in the future!

There are too many pho restaurants. You should make yours different. It would pull westerners to your restaurant. A western breakfast. Then serve western lunch and dinner. When I visited Laos, being accustomed to western foods, I craved for a western breakfast each morning. Pancakes, toast, and coffee. There ain’t a place in Laos like that.
