Also I do have some very generous subscribers who like to contribute when they hear we are about to hit the road again. Even just the littlest thing like hitting the LIKE button helps push the videos to a greater audience which in turn helps us help more people.

I did lao night clubs too (you know what I mean) and many friends and family parties with my local friends. And I was driving in Laos in January. I totally understand your sentiments towards those trucks!! The roads are very bad, but that didn't bother me - I just disliked driving with the trucks. Plus of course the crazy drivers overtaking on blind mountain bends.

At 14:00, if I may personally testify to your observation, on a personal level.
I was only around 5 or so, 1973-4 ---- just a year before we took off to trek across the lower Luagprabang region to Sayabury, on the West bank of the Maekong, on our way to Nan, Thailand ---- when there were still some last skirmishes in Laos, in the area you noted here.
    SHORT HISTORY FOOTNOTE:
For those who didn't know, Laos King visited John F. Kennedy in the White House, around 1962-3, for consultation talks about the Vietnam War & how Americans could help stave off Communism from taking over the entirety of Southeast Asia region, etc.
    th-cam.com/video/qpxcdoqS80s/w-d-xo.html
The "Secret War" part of the Vietnam War, fought in Laos, didn't start in the mid to late 1960s; it started BEFORE Kennedy got to the White House. People of my father and uncles' generation, who were teenagers in the late 1950s to mid 60s... most were recruited by the CIA, directly or indirectly; and 100% of the guns they used, at first, mostly small WWII calibre guns (like the M1 carbine) from US army surplus storage, were supplied by the Americans, as were the tiny monthly stipends they received...
The big & long, first generation, M-16 that you saw some Hmong boys sporting, in historical pictures taken by some intrepid Western journalists, only arrived toward the very end of the war & only a few special units had access to them. My father, uncles, & other "irregular" units, it's all WWII surplus calibre rifles, like the M1 carbines.
I still remember my father taking me on a hunting trip, one time, with his treasured M1...
Anyway, the reason I still remember it/Kasi was that almost every night, for a week or so, my maternal grandfather and I would go outside and watch the tracers (back then we simply called them "light shows").
Our village was really high up in the Put Kong Khao mountain overlooking Kasi. We relocated there from northern Luangprabang when the Communists (at the height of the Vietnam War, around 1968, around the time I was born) ... were strong enough to over-ran my dad and uncle's units, 3-4 years prior to those last skirmishes in/around Kasi, as noted here.
So, while Put Kong Khao was now in Viantiane Province, in the district of Vang Vieng, again, from our vantage point, the side of the mountain range we lived on, in good dark nights --- which were almost always the case, unless there's smog or clouds ---- we could see normal flickering lights down by Kasi...
If we wanted to travel either to Kasi, towards Luangprabang... or to Vang Vieng, toward Viantiane ..... we had to walk all the way down to the small town below us, along Highway 13. That little town was, back then, called Ban Put. Not sure if it still exists today...
I know Ban Tien, about 5 to 8 miles north (of Ban Put), on the way to Kasi, is still in existence today. Ban Tien was my last memory of Laos because just 6 months prior to the summer of 1975, we did relocate from our high mountain living to tiny settlement about 5 kilometers from Ban Tien, on Highway 13... Our settlement was on the shoulder of Highway 13, not Ban Tien...
Ban Tien was actually a mile or two (back then anyway) in a sharp elbow-turn you had to purposefully drive into & out of, along Highway 13, to drop off or to pick up people or commodities, before you could continue on your travel along the highway... From our tiny road side settlement, we walked to Ban Tien for a Lao festival, one night; and it was at that Lao festival that I learned, even from that early age, to really like these forlorn, rhythmic Lao Lum style of traditional Lao music.
A few weeks after that trip we took to Ban Tien, our parents woke us up, one night, and told us we had to leave (for what or where, as small kids, we were not told, naturally: it's all done in silence).
That was my very last memory of Laos... summer of 1975, after my very first year of schooling.

If you build the road right the trucks won't destroy it.

I sure enjoy your videos! Im wondering about something.. You're driving a truckload through Laos. What happens when you need gas? Are there many gas stations? Do they sell gas from a pump, or is it in containers that you buy? I suppose you need to be concerned about how far to the next fueling point as you go. In USA we don't really worry about it because gas station are everywhere and always operational.
    Great videos!

Thank you! Hahaha you can get fuel here at more places than in the US. Every little village we pass through usually has fuel they hand pump out of 44s, or often you see water bottles filled with petrol and deisel for the bikes. Plenty of gas stations though. We've never been close to being caught out 👌
