In the manga(and games I think), the hundred new Johto pokémon are all new species. I think it was even mentioned that Jasmine was a rock type gym leader because the steel type was newly discovered back then. Why would leaders use new pokémon if there are reliable older ones.

You should watch Pokemon Challenges video "Why gen 2 is the worst Gen". It perfectly caputres everything that is so god awful wrong with these games. And don't get me wrong, Gen 2 is way up there for me based on nostalgia alone but looking back at them critically there is a lot of "wtf were they even thinking" moments. Probably due to the fact that they thought these would be the last games ever and just wanted to cash out
This run is really cool for a lot of reasons: 1. You're making use of all of your Pokemon. Even the ones like Butterfree who are usually considered useless endgame. 2. You're the only person I know who would have ever thought to use natural gift against Ho-oh lol. 3. Even after a pretty devastating loss, you decided to pick yourself back up and try again. Mad respect (though I am a bit dissapointed about the shinies lol).

really nice nuzlocke. mad respect for taking the loss in the end. nuzlocke's are supposed to be hard and losses just happen. realizing it could've been avoidable is somehwat of a win itself because you can learn from it. that's also the satisfaction I got from this video, not because I'm happy you lost but because nuzlocke's work as intended and there's no need to sugarcoat it.

It could serve as a kind of long term project tho, like I imagine you could get stuck at some parts of the game until you're waiting for a certain encounter relying on dupes clause. So you could just set honey on a heap of trees before bed and check all in the morning and don't do anything else until you get the encounter you need

If I could give you a word of advice, I think the music montaging could improve. I noticed it in the Platinum video but here I can put a finger on it. You’re trying to use the game OSTs but sometimes that can limit you. In this video, you’re trying to build up to an ending with the HGSS Champion->Hall of Fame->End Titles music. That’d a great choice if it weren’t for the fact you’re playing the Lance music when facing Karen, and when Aerodactyl starts destroying you, some happy, victorious Hall of Fame music is playing. It feels off. I don’t know what’s the best way to correct it. Maybe quicker transitions from one track to the other to fit the mood better. Or maybe picking one copyright-free piece of music/OST remix that lasts longer and fits the general mood of sections of the video. You can definitely figure it out. I hope I pointed out something you can use to up the quality of the videos, not that it’s low. Looking forward to more content!

Yeah a sp.d decrease is great but having that turn where you take no dmg is also an upside. Plus flinch moves are typically contact moves while I believe Extrasensory is one of the very few special that cause flinch. Great if you got a good sp. Attacker

I actually like the way games with Johto are designed, meaning, I like the fact there is no overrepresentation of 2nd gen Pokemon in G/S/C and HG/SS. This way, it makes it more connected to 1st gen and Kanto and makes it more like a complement to it. Whereas I did not like 3rd gen too much because of the fact there is such overrepresentation of new Pokemon by the cost of the old ones. I really didn't like it because it kinda makes Hoenn a more outlandish and disconnected region. Also, many of the 3rd gen Pokemon were not very well-designed compared to first two gens. But still, design of Pokemon in generations that came later really redeemed 3rd gen, ironically. All in all, 2nd gen was almost perfectly balanced when it comes to its dex, in my opinion.
I like trying out new pokemon instead of making the same six team every game because I get to understand new pokemon that I add to my team. As for the pokemon designs, I guess they are very subjective. Also, johto and kanto are right next to each other so they share pokemon. But hoenn is more distant so it has unique pokemon. It makes sense from a realistic perspective

But it mostly pertains to gym leaders, they definitely use more of Kanto than Johto Pokemon, but overall, there is still a good dose of new Pokemon to see in Johto, whether as wild Pokemon or used by traners. Also, keep in kind the fact that there were ~50 more 1st gen Pokemon than 2nd gen ones. And many types weren't very wel balanced, such as there were very few ghost and dragon-type Pokemon at that time. Preferences to looks may be largely subjective but there are also some more objective ways to measure whet is generally considered good design and what is not. The fact that Johto and Kanto are 'neighbours' is what I very much enjoyed about 2nd gen. It was like a more smooth transition from Pokemon we knew from the 1st gen to ones from Jonto instead of a very abrupt and revolutionary shift that R/S/E introduced. It felt kinda off. Like, I did not know so many of these new Pokemon - how could I enjoy them, if I could not yet get used to them? Also, I hated the fact that R/S game, when they came out did not technically include National Dex (I mean, they had it, but it was effective only after release of FR/LG more than a year later) and to me these games suffered from the very same problem many fans currently grieve over Sw/Sh for - so many Pokemon were simply put aside and inaccessible. I couldn't thus use many Pokemon which I really liked and this is precisely what pushed me off from 3rd generation. The ater games already had more accessible Pokemon and a better variety of them, so, that issue was not as painful later on. As for Sw/Sh, eh, I guess I can let it be. I did not have high expectations of these games anyway. Certainly not as high as I had from 3rd gen after gen 2.

Preferences to looks may be largely subjective but there are also some more objective ways to measure whet is generally considered good design and what is not.
The fact that Johto and Kanto are 'neighbours' is what I very much enjoyed about 2nd gen. It was like a more smooth transition from Pokemon we knew from the 1st gen to ones from Jonto instead of a very abrupt and revolutionary shift that R/S/E introduced. It felt kinda off. Like, I did not know so many of these new Pokemon - how could I enjoy them, if I could not yet get used to them? Also, I hated the fact that R/S game, when they came out did not technically include National Dex (I mean, they had it, but it was effective only after release of FR/LG more than a year later) and to me these games suffered from the very same problem many fans currently grieve over Sw/Sh for - so many Pokemon were simply put aside and inaccessible. I couldn't thus use many Pokemon which I really liked and this is precisely what pushed me off from 3rd generation. The ater games already had more accessible Pokemon and a better variety of them, so, that issue was not as painful later on. As for Sw/Sh, eh, I guess I can let it be. I did not have high expectations of these games anyway. Certainly not as high as I had from 3rd gen after gen 2.

Johto missed an opportunity to put Misdreavus in the Ecruteak Ghost Type Gym. Why isn't the only Ghost introduced in Johto not in the Johto gym?
