  • In this video, I discuss the basics, as well as the PROS and CONS, of the MINOLTA XG7.
A great little electronic 35mm SLR film camera that I've owned for about a year and produces some great images, despite its subtle drawbacks.

The shutter speed indicator should light up when the shutter is half pressed, even with gloves on. I just sent my first rolls taken with my XG7 to the lab, very excited for the results. Your photos looked really sharp, they got me hyped!

I got a Minolta XG7 from my mother when she used it for high school and college courses. According to her, it was meant for beginner photographers so only had the basics, no big grand bells or perks, just did the basic jobs so the timer never beeped, no depth of field preview. The aperture priority mode was made for beginners that didn’t know how to use it manually. But yeah the biggest gripe I had was that it was in a closet for 40 years and I never used it for so long cause it was battery required to be usable and I never knew till I finally researched
Also one of the sadder things about this camera is that if it breaks, the repair cost more than buying a replacement which I find for $20 but my mothers will always hold a sentimental value to me

Thanks so much for sharing! The absence of the bells and whistles is a small price to pay when the photos come out looking great in Aperture priority mode. I hope you’ve been able to busy out the XG7 after all these years and play around with it.

Nice review and it looks like a nice sturdy older camera. Have you used another lens other than the 50mm?

The only other one I’ve used for this camera is a 70-200mm. It was a heavy one too so it didn’t feel great putting it on the light body of the XG7. I’m going to look into getting some more variety of lenses pretty soon.

Using the Sunny 16 rule really isn't that difficult.

98% of face time and only 2% of camera time. I wanted to see the camera.
