Brightness/Contrast, Curves and Levels adjustment layers can help, among other things :)

yes, but how did u not colour outside the eyes? bc i'm having a hard time with only colouring the eyes, and like not eyelid or whatever too
He's probably using a drawing tablet. You can buy those starting at like 30 bucks.

When I try this, the color of the subject's skin changes, as does the background. But her hair, eyes, and clothing have only a barely imperceptible change. I am using CS4. Do you know what the problem is?
how do I change only one eye color? Do I have to cut the image in a half?
Bottom of layers panel, add a Solid Color a adjustment layer, pick your colour, select the mask (attached to the layer) and press acme/Ctrl + I to make the mask back. Then select white as your foreground colour from the colour picker, select the brush tool and brush in over the eye (revealing your solid color). Then change the blending mode to Color from the dropdown at the top of the layers panel. Done 🙂

What am I doing wrong. I have tried every single step exactly and it keeps changing the colour of the whole image!!!!!!!
You need to select and “Invert” the default layer mask or fill it with black (with Brush Tool). This removes the colour adjustment, then select white as your colour and brush in on the layer mask to reveal where you want to adjustment layer effects to appear 👍

Wow! Thanks for this. I did a Photoshop course in University, and the way to change eye colour in that course was incredibly convoluted. Had to select one with the lasso, copy that, move it to the other eye, and all this fiddly shifting and reshaping! I wish we'd had you as our lecturer! I've just subscribed so I can keep learning from you, because you make it so much easier to learn and actually remember the process.

For some reason it is not working for me. I tried it the first time and it worked and then when I tried to do it on another photo it stopped working for me. I invert the image under adjustments and then I choose my brush and paint over the eye but there is no color being shown its weird. Is there anyway you can help me fix this? Thank you!
i have the same problem. i think this is just a diffrence between mac version and windows version...
@@_bmxlover_3107 the green color comes from the color change in 0:34, you need to change the color first and do the steps afterward.

must be a different version of photoshop because mines doesnt have adjustment
