I wouldn’t call it complacency, I’d say it’s just pressure and losing relatability people always say physcodrama is a classic which I agree but there’s an artist curse to that everything you drop after a considered classic album is forever overshadowed. 50 Cent with Get Rich Or Die Trying is a classic and even though he improved lyrically and dropped more projects after, it couldn’t be topped. Roddy Ricch dropped Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial which was a perfect album and I believe one of the best albums to come from this generation and now he’s struggling to beat “fell off” accusations. With relatability Drake said something like “I’m getting so much money my lyrics aren’t relatable” and it’s the same with Dave he can rap about the hood in past tense but not for 12-15 songs straight. Plus making people wait 4 years intensifies pressure to perform. My bad on the paragraph I’m not saying this to glaze just perspective from an artist.
@ I hear everything your saying but the only reason he even thinks like that or is allowed to be like that is because he’s not competing with anyone there is no competition so there is no reason for him to innovate like that you brought 50 cent and 50 cent was forced to get better because people like Kanye were coming for him I know 50 never reached the heights of get rich of die tryin but you get the point no artist especially one at Dave’s calibre should be allowed to go 4 years without an album not drop a single for 1 year and still be nominated for awards
