There was real trading cards in the us, but I believe they only sold at dollar tree in 2014, my parents bought me them, I have 0 idea where they are now, they are now lost....

there's more diversity if you buy packs with a different cover, or from a different boxed set, which would probably be of a different price and have cards such as scene cards or cards with a more variety of rarities (R, SR, SSR, HR, UR, LSR, SGR, SC...) (packs w/ the same cover would usually have a similar combination of cards, the card ratio algorithm is on the back of each pack)
