Oh my goodness, thats what I hate about IBS... is that I fight. the urge and I start to panic! Mostly because I am not near a rest room, or feel I am going to inconvenience someone. So annoying.

I have serious anxiety issues, depression and ibs. I didn't realise how bad it was still I started cramping during periods (I usually don't at all). I can't control the farts at all and they smell different all the time, sometimes sweet and sometimes really strong like a garbage truck. I have no friends in school and it's not helping with anything :( I'll try out these tips and hopefully they work!

Dont give you a coping mechanism just puts a band aid on it and you still arent coping with your depression just suppressing it. It damages more people than it helps is all il say. If it works for you perspnally happy days but fpr most people itl cause crazy bad sode effects

I don't have IBS, but I have a really noisy stomach esp after I've eaten. I used to worry about it during classes, but when other students have noisy stomachs, too, I've realized that it didn't bother me or annoyed me, so I realized that if other ppl dont think twice about it, then there's no use worrying about it, so I got over my stomach being noisy.

Do you drink coffee? Caffeine gives you anxiety and depression.
Coffee messes up your gut. You feel bloated and loose stools. Gluten is another big issue with your gut. It causes inflammation.
If this is you try 1 month coffee, caffeine and gluten free diet. Also stay away from refine sugar. You will see a big difference.

I was diagnosed with IBS last week, I was also diagnosed with Anxiety and Depression quite a while ago. I've been doing research on IBS videos and that's how I found your video! I was feeling nauseous for such a long time and every time I ate anything I would bloat so much to the point where my stomach didn't look right. I am a 5ft person weighing around 48 kilos (105 pounds) so I am at a healthy body weight and I don't look overweight but I am so so insecure about my stomach when it's bloated. I've never had a flat stomach and i feel as if the IBS has affected that a lot. My doctor told me to stop having Gluten and Dairy, I was already lactose-intolerant but both types of food make me bloated and sick it sucks :( I drink about 3 cups of peppermint tea a day and it helps soooo much, it makes my stomach feel so refreshed! Love all these tips though, definitely going to try the can trick haha.

I've been dealing with it for more than two years. Thanks for the tips...But for me it's impossible not to panic when I'm not at home, or when I'm surrounded by people, and then the pain becomes unbearable, I almost passed out once...And I think what helped me the most was just not thinking so much about it, and also just accepting it and talking about it with people that are close to me, so that I feel like I have support, and not panic when I'm with friends because I know they'll understand...

Thank you for sharing :) My life in a nutshell basically :( my IBS is literally controlling my life right now. Only came across this video today as I'm struggling with it so much & I really have no one to talk to about it or who understands. Reading from the comments, I never realised so many people have this condition because I've always felt alone. I feel there is very little support out there. I feel like I am constantly having to explain my health symptoms or justify why I'm feeling like this. My condition is still very much ongoing, it has been in a gradual decline over the past couple of years. When I was first diagnosed with IBS & had been for a colonoscopy, I literally felt healed after that. However I am now at my lowest point & I'm still trying to find answers with no luck. It is a constant struggle & repetitive cycle daily. I've still to see a gastroenterologist & a psychiatrist which is basically my last attempt at salvation. I have had no help whatsoever with dieticians, trying to manage my diet on my own. All I have to manage my condition at the moment are anti depressants & even these I don't think are helping. I find it difficult to work a certain amount of hours every week, I am so afraid to leave the house, to make plans, basically to even have a life! :/ in fear of an IBS attack which of course leads me to feeling even more anxious which is already crippling enough. Stress & anxiety is definitely a huge factor with my IBS right now! I feel so trapped by it all :(

I’m an IBS-C and anxiety sufferer. One triggers the other... I get super anxious and it causes my IBS to flare up... or I start getting a flare up and it brings on major anxiety. It’s a daily struggle, and literally NO ONE in my family and friends group can understand or relate. “It’s all in your head”.... I’m sick of hearing that!

I get so overwhelmed about showing symptoms about my IBS in public and then I got anxious and then my IBS flares even more which makes me even more anxious and the cycle just continues. It's so bad. Tomorrow I'm going to the doctor to finally get put on medication after about 3 years of having trouble and I'm just praying to sweet Jesus that my IBS doesnt flare while I'm there. Hey everyone, so basically I have suffered with IBS for 10 years now! And let me tell you, it has ruined my life. I have stopped being able to go to sleepovers in fear of getting a stomach ache, it has caused me to not be able to eat gluten, dairy, nuts, fruit, and certain veggies, so I just eat meat and some vegetables. Which is also another reason I can’t go to sleepovers because I can’t usually eat what their family is making. I also have had to switch to online school because it was so severe, I would be going to the bathroom all the time in so much pain. I also have terrible anxiety which only makes it worse! But if you are having an IBS attack here are a few thing that help me...
    1. Walking in circles.
Walking in circles in like your living room can help a lot since your not sitting down and constantly thinking and freaking out about it. It can also help with the pain.
    2. Open a door or window (get fresh air)
This one can help a lot to calm you down when you are worked up!
    3. Count or read something.
If you are sitting on the toilet in a lot of pain, your mind is probably racing! So try counting something or reading something. This helps a lot to calm yourself and focus on something else.
    4. Plug you ears and close your eyes.
This one probably sounds weird, but sometimes if the pain is just unbearable it can feel better to close your eyes and plug your ears!
    5. Touch something.
I find it can be really helpful to feel grass if you are outside, or like a towel if your in the bathroom!
    6. Crying.
When you cry you are letting out a hormone that will calm you body and make you feel much better!
    7. Breathe.
I know this sounds cliche, but I notice when I get it I forget to breath and I’m super tense and can’t talk or move, so make sure you breathe!
Here are just a few tips I’ve picked up over the years that I do to calm myself and help with the pain!
P.S one of the biggest things I do when I get IBS (basically everyday) is take activated charcoal! If you suffer from stomachs pain, you NEED this! I take one every single time I get it and it helps in about 5-10 mins! Make sure to drink lots of water so there isn’t a build up of charcoal in your system!
    🤍🤍🤍

My doctor is almost certain I have IBS. It turned out I had hypocalcimia on top of it aswell which just made everything worse. I'd be fine one minute and then the next I'd be crying in pain having to run to the toilet every 5 minutes. It got to the point that I couldn't stand school and missed atleast one or more days a week because I would end up sitting there in agony trying to stop myself from going to the toilet, which would most of the time cause me to have panic attacks. I'm now stuck in the cycle of anxiety and IBS. Im left anxious in case my IBS will flare up or my IBS flaring up triggers my anxiety, which I turn makes the IBS worse!
At the moment I'm just stuck in this horrible cycle. I don't leave the house any more. I struggle to go to school. I can't get a job. I don't hang out with friends. Im just hoping this blows over eventually!

I have IBS with a very very strong phobia... of vomit. Both of these things made me have anxiety. Which gave me depression. (But not much)
So basically my symptoms are :
-Having frequent anxiety fright or flight moments In class
    - I have 50 days off school on average every year.
    - I can’t eat any type of junk food, not milk or dairy. No fruit.... so I basicallly love of veggies and bread and wraps.
-When I feel sick my anxiety just makes it worse
    -I get panic attacks
    -weirdest diarrhoea every day
And I’ve dealt with this for four years 😔 so here are some of my tips!
1: have probiotics once a day in a flavoured drink or just water.
2: exersize IS SO IMPORTANT. I do just dance for thirty minutes every day. And it’s a great thing to do! It’s so much fun unlike pushups and all that. And it’s great!
3: try to do things that aren’t on your phone. Do exersize! Go for a walk, read, write a story or a diary. Think about people you love
4: for anxiety,, have a prepared anxiety kit for school or work. Even if you don’t have to use it... it helps to know it’s there! Somethings to use are like inspirational notes, a few random pieces of paper to randomly draw out and let’s say one said “breathe” dot that.
    5: lie on your stomach
6: get into a Routine!!! In the mornings you can do things and go for a walk and have fun before you eat your breakfast! This does some motivating!
    7: listen to music 🥰
So that’s all the tips and symptoms I have!! It sucks to have it as a kid... ruined my childhood honestly. I try to think positive in life though! But being active and doing things really helps! If you are still reading this. Good on you! 😂 this is the longest text ever lmao
    Bye

thanks for commenting it made me feel not so alone :))

Wow I’m so sorry. After a year with horrible stomach problems, I got an endoscopy and it showed up that I had Hpylori (a super common stomach infection). As a 13 year old, I’m technically still a child, and usually for kids this bacteria can go away on its own. Sadly, I had stomach problems 7 years ago which weakened my stomach. Because of the pain at school, it gave me anxiety and it got worse every month. So the point that on school days and outdoor activities, my stomach would tighten, I feel nauseous, sore stomach and he heartburn. I took triple therapy medication for my hpylori and hopefully it’s gone! When my stomach heals, I hope my anxiety will too. Fingers cross

•getting birth control that stops your period if that’s a problem for you.
•And try getting a counselor/therapist/psychologist if you feel your ibs is triggered by anxiety. ONLY IF your mental health care provider feels you need medicine will they recommend you to a psychiatrist (who uses medication).
•Also keep in mind as inconvenient ibs is, it does NOT cause any harm to you
•And finally, consider investing in a baby wipes or a duvet (those toilet things that spray water on your booty)

Thanks for this. I don't leave my house much lately. Anxiety has flared up like crazy for months now, making my stomach turn and I have to use the bathroom as soon as I leave the house. I'm always in a panic because I'm afraid I won't be able to make it to the toilet at all when I'm out in public. I don't know why it's so much worse these last few months, but I'm going insane. I cannot work because of it -- how could I get through a job interview if I'm anxious and panicked that I'm going to have to explain to the interviewer that I need to use the toilet right then and there? I'm not on any medication, but thinking I should be now that you said it helped you. Thank you.

I'm 11 years old and I suffer with IBS , this video is so helpful and so true. I was diagnosed not long after my 11 th birthday . It is possible that I have crones desise since my mother suffers with it . I have missed 2 weeks of school just trying to get used to ibs it's so true that is personal to what food u can and can't eat , I was NOT supposed to eat / drink dairy but I LOVE this new milk that just came out called b.o.b milk ( best of both) it's amazing if u are on semi skimmed milk and want to start drinking skimmed milk because before I was diagnosed with ibs I was tested for lactose intolerant and celiac and I got no change when I wasn't drinking milk and little to no change no eating gluten I would ether get consterpated or have diarear it wasn't nice and still isn't but I'm learning to cope better

Hey, I'm 15 and I have IBS and anxiety I have episodes every single day waking up, when I go to school and even when people come round my house. I get panic attacks on school when I feel ill or am ill cause I hate people knowing. I have gone to 4 doctors (seeing a 5th really soon) and all four have said that it is anxiety/stress and not food related at all, of corse some foods make it worse but I have to go into school late now because of it and I try not to go out at all I'm lucky if I get out my house 1 or 2 a week I have become distant with my friends and I have constant anxiety over weather I will have another episode out in public cause and I'm petrified of people finding out have you got any tips for dealing with anxiety about it or maybe what the next doctor a gastroenterologist will suggest? Thanks X

    • @EmilyRosemason
      @EmilyRosemason  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

+Shara Timpson!!!!! im so sorry you're going through this and i know exactly how you feel :( firstly id suggest to never fight your symptoms, when you start to feel sick, or have an ibs symptom stay calm and just let it happen. Secondly id suggest making small goals, maybe the goal of going to school everyday or going out some amount of days a week is too much of a big goal at the moment, make very small goals like going out two days and then when your comfortable slowly build it up. I think the next doctor is likely to say the same but try and push them to give you medicine or therapy. I think the most important thing is getting your anxiety better, also try an ibs forum online they are really good. Stay distracted and confident, you will beat this i know you will, let me know if you want any more help xxx

I just came across this video now. I was on day two of my family vacation and for some reason the first couple days I always get an IBS attack. Mine isn’t rushing to the bathroom, the opposite not going and having severe pain and bloating. The anxiety is crippling though. I left my family vacation drove two hours, and am sitting in my house alone. My family doesn’t really understand it so that makes me feel even more nervous. I’m fortunate to watch videos like this. Thank you for sharing.

hi, ive been struggling with ibs for the past 2 years nearly three, first started when I went to college, but my ibs was never related to food, it would just be when I'm in nervous situations or situations that would cause me a lot of anxiety, for example, I can barely travel for long periods because my stomach would end up cramping so much I would end up being in a lot of pain and then I would need to go to the bathroom. recently ive just been accepted for a new job, and it my ibs plays up so much because I find going to work a really anxious situation because its new to me, I've gone to the doctor and they believe it is ibs, but is there anyone else who just has flare ups when in stressful or new situations or when placing themselves out of the comfort zone? everyone I meet tends to have the diet issue, but I find I can eat whatever I want near enough (carbonated drinks while in a situation where Im placing myself out of my comfort zone tends to make the symptoms I have worse, but that's it for diet)

Girl you are not alone. Certain foods mess me up but what really I feel triggers my IBS flare ups are the anxiety of going out of my comfort zone. It happened recently starting my first job and it's happened this week when they wanted to promote me (which should be GOOD NEWS RIGHT?). But this wave of anxiety and panic hit me and along with it came the symptoms for my IBS flare up

This brings me so much comfort! I’ve been at home for the past year due to the pandemic and my once raging ibs symptoms had almost completely gone (unless eating something really spicy or greasy). I’ve started a new job this week and my symptoms have started once again but I’m almost certain it’s caused only by my anxiety. I’m usually OK in the morning but once I eat lunch, the panic sets in and it’s like I’m just waiting for my stomach to start

I used to suffer from ibs, and took a small amount of an anti depressant routinely, even though I've never had any trouble with depression, and the pain disappeared completely in a month. If anyone else wants relief from ibs, talk to your doctor to see if an anti depressant can help you, according to your symptoms. It really does help lots.

I'm so thankful I have people around me to support me and are able to talk to me about my various problems. IBS runs on my moms side of the family (no pun intended lol), so they all know what I'm going through. Also my boyfriend's mom has no colon due to ulcerative colitis so he knows what it's like to have someone close to him with digestive issues. He's actually brought me lots of stuff to help with the tummy issues like mint teas, ginger teas, different supplements, and the like.
When I first started getting sick I was in denial about it. I didn't want to admit to myself that I was sick. I just kept ignoring it up until I was bleeding pretty profusely. Then I just had to get some help. So I sat my parents down and told them what was happening and told them that it might be because of high anxiety that I had been facing for years. I mean we knew I was nervous a lot but I didn't want to admit that I was potentially mentally ill.
I thought it was something I could deal with on my own but really it was causing major damage to my body over time. I wasn't eating as much because my nerves made me not hungry, and I wasn't absorbing a lot of the nutrients because I'd get sick soon after eating. I was underweight and my body was suffering. After getting my blood test back it turned out that my internal organs has some damage to them due to the sickness. Had I not gotten help I could have died.
That's why I tend to be really vocal about my experience. I don't want anyone to die because they're afraid to get help. It can happen. It's not as embarrassing as it seems. Yeah it's a little uncomfortable to talk about at first but now I can talk about it matter of factly and I'm doing much better because of it.

ibs diagnosed over 10 years ayee I went on antidepressants for a few years and YES it does help with ibs but made my depression worse. On the meds I gained 60 lbs because I could eat everything lmao luckily I lost the weight but wouldn't do it again. and yes I agree with don't fight your symptoms. ibs symptoms have never gotten better but I've just learned how to deal. embrace the pain, stay calm and pretend nothing is happening (except going to the bathroom) deep slow breaths always help me and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water always helps if I eat food my body doesn't agree with.

Harry Connick Jr has admitted on a few occasions to have suffered from IBS. When he was in elementary school in Weston, CT, he had to go home early every day because it struck so quickly after he ate that he had once fouled himself in forth grade and the teacher refused to help him clean himself up. The Assistant Principle came to the rescue, but he has lived with the stigma for years. He got it somewhat under control by the time he reached sixth grade and he was able to stay in school a full day. Don't you think it was very brave of him to fess up to being an IBS survivor? I doo doo...

The reason why you feel so much relief when you use your moisturizer to rub your belly is because you actually are helping your digestive muscles to soothe the area. Just like having a massage on your feets after a long run. If you actually do it following the pattern of your large intestine (a reverse U) and doing it in circular motion, I can assure you that you will feel a bigger relief. That is called a colonic massage. The only thing is that you have lo lay flat on your bed but with your knees up. It really works.

Most of the time I end up having to go to the bathroom and throwing up. I really love my girlfriend and don't have any doubts about the relationship. Does anyone know how or what this is?

I'm unable to eat gluten and sometimes dairy which is a bit of a pain for after school snacks. I've been doing karate for 6-7 years with my dad and now I'm going twice or once a week rather than three times, which annoys my Dad. Also, school get's me a little stressed and I'm generally a very anxious and nervous person about the most ridiculous things!

I suggest forgetting the vegetarian diet. Plants are hard to digest. Also, high sugar levels increase anxiety. You should look into the Ketogenic diet with Dr.Schmidt.

I suffer from IBS. Before I go to the toilet my belly hurts so much and then when I go to the toilet I remove all the items out of the toilet I don't know why and then I press my hands near my private part I don't know why and I don't get enough sleep because I stay in the toilet for hours. Also it's embarrassing so I poo in the dark

My IBS is kinda weird, first I feel like 1 million butterflies are in my stomach. Then it feels like those butterflies come out my mouth like vomit. But, I don’t wan’t to vomit and I feel like I’m weak if I do. And for my Anxiety, I have a huge mental breakdown and I have butterflies in my stomach too. Lastly, I tend to hide it, and make others happy and make people laugh so they can’t feel what I feel. Pretty weird huh?

ive got IBS, and I'm a bus driver. so this is what i do. on days im not working im ok most of the time. but on work days ill take one immudiom tablet. hopefully after a bowel movement. but if I've not had one then ill still take a tablet. i don't mind the feeling of needing a standard poo. however driving a bus and trying to hold in the shits. and getting pain. but immoudim stops that at the door. and those no harm in taking them everyday. if you go the other way and get constapated then use half a tablet
