Could you make a video about Haitian Vodou in general? It has an interesting pantheon, practices and history considering its a blend of Catholicism, the indigenous folk religion and the African Vodun. Its a shame that the rest of the world only known it for its magic practices which of course includes zombies
Have you read Ian Wright's article Marx on Capital as a Real God and its sequel Dark Eucharist of the Real God? I feel like they would be INCREDIBLE grist for the mill for an ESOTERICA video and if not, I think you'd REALLY enjoy them.
One thing that interests me greatly is your bit about Marxist apocalyptic theology and how it differs greatly from my own conception of the Marxist class struggle. Of course, I do hold to some extent to that idea that the final revolution, however that happens, must be violently apocalyptic, I never viewed the struggle as building up towards a final, Book of Revelations type battle. Instead, I have always conceived of it as this cyclical back and forth between labor and capital akin to the struggle between the devas and asuras in Hinduism, with late-stage capitalism functioning more like a Kali Yuga period in which we more likely than not descend into fascism and then possibly come out the other side to start the cycle partially anew. This probably has to do with my Hindu upbringing as compared to the Christian context of a lot of these thinkers, but I think it really goes to show how much your religious upbringing is a potent material force in shaping your conception of reality and the ideas of others.
So glad you appeared on Alex's channel I've found my homes now in you tube. So much to learn.. I'm excited, thankyou for exploring what I feel is lost knowledge awesome😎💯✌️
If any other channel had a video with this title and thumbnail, I'd think it would be some quackery made to push views. So glad this channel exists to talk about the occult in scholarly terms.
Spin around, like a whirling dervish, clockwise (yang in the northern hemisphere/yin in the southern hemisphere) or counterclockwise (yin in the northern hemisphere/yang in the southern hemisphere). Chanting these mantras(yin mantras) heal each chakra: Um like "from"(root), Am like "Tom"(sacral/solar plexus), Oom like "room"(heart), Em like "them"(throat), Om like "home"(heart/throat/pineal) and Ngm (humming with tongue on the roof of the mouth/pineal/crown). These mantras build yang in the body: Eem like "team", Im like "him" and Am like "lamb". Chant these mantras a number of times at the corresponding sound frequency for each chakra: 1,2,4,8:256hz(root),144:288hz,34:272hz,33:264hz(sacral),5,20:320hz(solar plexus),88:352hz,21:336hz,89:356hz(heart),3,12:384hz(throat), 7:448hz,13:416hz,(pineal),54:432hz(left brain), 55:440hz(right brain), 60:480hz(crown). The days of the week relate to the chakras as follows: sunday(root), monday(sacral), tuesday(solar plexus), wednesday(heart), thursday(throat), friday(pineal), saturday(crown). Sleep with the head placed east. The cardinal directions represent the 4 seasons: east(spring), south(summer), west(autumn), north(winter) in the northern hemisphere or east(spring),north(summer), west(autumn), and south(winter) in the southern hemisphere. Stare into these symbols before sleep in order: the eye of horus and its mirror image, the eye of ra, one eye at a time, 7 colored rainbow, then the torus yantra, pentacle, metatron's cube, heptagram, enneagram and then the flower of life mandala before sleep. Go for walks while breathing deeply through the mouth and nose(count your breaths based on the number of chanting repetitions for each chakra depending on the day of week). While walking also periodically touch each finger tip to the tip of the thumb and make fists(mudras). Lift weights and box a punching bag. Place coiled copper wire into the soil and grow non-gmo soy, wheat, corn, mint potatoes, regular(unfeminized) cannabis seeds and papaver somniferum(7 year crop rotation). Get natto starter to make natto. Place bare feet and hands on the grass. Sunbathe or shine white LED light on skin during the day and at night use LED lights on red(sunday), orange(monday), yellow(tuesday), green(wedsnesday), blue(thursday), indigo(friday) or violet(saturday) settings and expose all skin to the light. Another helpful suggestion. From friday sunset to saturday sunset rest the sabbath which means no lighting fires(no lighters, stovetops, etc.), no physical exercise, no singing or listening to music, and no buying or selling. This will increase yin in the body for the following week. Breaking the sabbath(doing the opposite) will increase yang in the body for the following week. During the sabbath, if keeping the sabbath, wear all white clothing. If breaking the sabbath, wear all black clothing. Rotate the sleeping cardinal direction at the end of every sabbath: east, south, west, north in the northern hemisphere or east, north, west, south in the southern hemisphere. Take neem(sparingly), cinnamon, turmeric, curcumin, nutmeg, gotu kola, schizandra, fo-ti, garlic, vitamins and minerals. Drink lemon juice, lemon balm, mint herbal teas and kefir. Drink organic caffeinated coffee, tea or cocoa in the morning(take breaks from caffeine as well). Also take n-acetyl cysteine, bromelain and nattokinase(detox). Experiment with resting one different day of the week the same as the sabbath(from sundown to sundown)or every other day sabbath. Worship Amun-Ra. Look into Nos Confunden's terra infinita map.

@@whatabouttheearth People hang up on the catchy parts. It's like how "God is dead" from Nietzsche gained so much popularity. Very disappointed that Bigfoot's contribution to the Russian Revolution was ignored; his use of Solomonic Magic was instrumental in securing the end of the monarchy.
great topic and nice video! I'd might add that there's actually a section in the Grundrisse where Marx speaks about the power of the money-form of capital as a sort of "black magic that throw men and goods into the alchemical retort to make gold", that evaporate all the "relations and illusions that slow the bourgeios mode of production". Greetings from Chile
@@TheEsotericaChannel You already did a great breakdown of the obscure gothic themes in Capital, enjoyable content as always. You also quoted Debord, which makes me want to see you explore the esoteric hegelian marxism of The Society of Spectacle, that would be awsome. Love your stuff, your response made my day, cheers.
yeah I was waiting for this exact quote to pop up! the Grundrisse is my favourite work of his and when I clicked play I was like "he is definitely dropping that fire bar from the Grundrisse about black magic and alchemy"
I think "The Theological Metaphors of Marx" by Enrique Dussel is an interesting reading about the religious and theological terminology Marx uses in Capital

Maaan, I got you discover your work because of your recent interview with Alex O'Connor, and what a goldmine I have found! I'm absolutely in love with your channel and the knowledge you share with us. Thank you so much for your work!
would love for you to do more on spiritualism, mysticism and esotericism in the political ideologies, especially since the ties within fascism are so well known, it seems prudent to also explore the ties within socialism and anarchism. There are some fascinating niche authors and ideologues out there.
"You got nothing to lose but your chains" Bless your soul sir for all you do to bring these varied and multitudinous topics together under a steady handed tutor's and teacher's approach.
Hegel’s dialectic and any sort of teleological element in Marxist thought has always felt quasi-religious and esoteric to me, regardless of whether that falls under the umbrella of “esoteric” or philosophical.
It's telling that both educated marxists and critics of marxism seem to agree that marxism is religious in some part. I was marxist-leninist for years and I can attest that it is definitely more of a religion masquerading as "a divinely unconcerned dialectic."
Definitely! As a teenager I was getting interested in Marx, but when I got to university and actually studied more of his work and his antecedents I recoiled: “what’s all this teleological mystic Geist bollocks about?!” My philosophy has always been generally Enlightenment logical positivist materialism, but lately I’ve been learning much more about the esoteric tradition and I’m at least getting more of an insight into the other side of European philosophy which leans towards Idealism. I’d started to get the impression that there are common threads between the likes of Kant, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche and Hegel and the Hermetic/gnostic/Platonic/esoteric tradition, and while there are definite overlaps, I think I’ve been oversimplifying things. Thanks to Dr Sledge for picking out the nuances in Hegel’s ideas and what Marx made of those.
Ever since Rosa Luxemburg, and maybe since later Marx, there has criticism against teleology within marxist debates. This is especially noticeable in Althusser, I've heard.
@@wellurbanYou do understand positivism is itself far more teleological than many interpretations of Marxism? If there is teleology in Marxismt today, I believe it is mostly due to Marxists keeping up something like this enlightenment era thinking
@@wellurban Teleology was the language of the 19th century its not a Marx thing. Most OG Darwinians were highly teleological in spite of Darwin arguably being the figure who's thought ultimately killed teleology among the intellectual elite (eg basically nobody. Everyone still interprets biology teleologically even the crazy "Death is curable" Singularitarian nutteres).
I literally didn’t believe your channel was real, that’s how cool your topics of interest are in these videos. I thought you were a nutjob. Instead, I get that good good deeply sourced academic history.
This is a topic I never even thought about before, as for most leftists they are strict materialists that would reject spiritual/esoteric forces, instead pointing to material conditions society creates that sculpt the social forces within it
Not really too related at all - but I've found it interesting to learn that Eliphas Levi was kind of on the Socialism side of things. Perhaps simply due to his heart going out to the oppressed and indigent.
@@matheusSerp I would say there are often positive aspects underlying why anyone chooses a particular way of being (for instance, Levi having compassion on those left behind by his society...that's a nice way of viewing his Socialist tendencies). The key is to focus on one's righteousness regarding each individual issue at hand, rather than adhering to a broad category about all issues, in my personal opinion. And life is filled with practical choices where the Ideal isn't exactly to be had, especially with divisive topics like politics.
@@matheusSerpthink about that at the time Western Europe began translating occult documents only the political autocracy and rising class of merchants could afford to have such a library or do alchemical experiments. Add on top church dogma has always been more rigidly enforced on lower classes leading to a more general paranoia that it's all satanism. But the rise in the law of attraction, even though it is bastardized and watered down shows there is a hunger for non dogmatic spirituality.
@@matheusSerp Often, the sorts of socialism embraced by 19th century occultists were utopian or romantic forms instead of Marxist. & these often existed alongside religious or nationalist sentiments. Socialism was certainly an ideology concerned with the oppressed and working class, but the distinctions between left & right wing ideas within early socialism itself is pretty complicated. You have far-right French political figures declaring themselves socialists in the 19th century & Napoleon III called himself a socialist as emperor too
Although I love your regular videos and the new (esoteric) ground they cover, I think your videos on philosophy are your greatest. I absolutely loved your video on Duns Scotus, which is by far the most comprehensive and best produced introduction to his thought on youtube. I’ll never complain about videos on esoteric subjects alone, but I’d love to see more philosophy (related) videos in the future! Thanks for all the work.
I spent 12 years working toward a PhD in Sociology -- which I didn't finish due to sleep problems -- and had to read Marx as part of my Classical Social Theory course. We went into Marx and Conflict Theory more deeply in a more advanced theory course. What I heard in this video was a combination of Conflict Theory and Social Constructionism with a sprinkling of Symbolic Interactionism in all this. I'd be interested in learning more about how social theories play into your analysis of esoteric subjects.
Marx basically pulled a Hegel on Hegel's dialectics. Turning dialectical idealism (thesis) on its head (antithesis) he created (synthesis) dialectical materialism. How very poetic!
The divide between the National Socialists, who focused more on the esoteric history, and the Hegelians, who focused on the esoteric philosophy, reminds me of the divide between the philosophical Hermetics and the alchemical Hermetics. One group is interested in physical mysticism(the alchemists how to manipulate base matter and the National Socialists how to manipulate race and bloodlines), while the other group is interested in spiritual mysticism (Hermetic philosophy being neo-Platonic with its demiurge and pleroma, and Marxism's focus on awakening in people a social consciousness which might as well be called a spiritual awakening)
Fascinating video! I would love to see a similar analysis on the intersection of anarchism and esotericism. In recent history, many of the discordians were committed anarchists. For better or worse, they've had an enormous impact on consensus reality and I can't imagine that their being anarchists was particularly unique in occult spaces
Perfect analysis, I myself have met some people who used historical-dialectical materialism in a similar way to a religious paradigm to interpret the world in a way completely based on belief and fit things into a mythological narrative, and use this narrative to develop more faith and trust. in the paradigm itself, generating an intense cycle of belief in this mythological narrative
Regarding the occult in Capital, I've always been fond of this weird note in volume 1, chapter 1: "In the German edition, there is the following footnote here: “One may recall that China and the tables began to dance when the rest of the world appeared to be standing still - pour encourager les autres.” The defeat of the 1848-49 revolutions was followed by a period of dismal political reaction in Europe. At that time, spiritualism, especially table-turning, became the rage among the European aristocracy. In 1850-64, China was swept by an anti-feudal liberation movement in the form of a large-scale peasant war, the Taiping Revolt. - Note by editors of MECW. Edit: Also loved the mention of The Society of the Spectacle; besides the expansion of the ideas around commodity fetishism, the chapter on time and history really contributes to the connection with apocalypticism, presenting the temporality of communist society as the dialectical supersession of the "irreversible time of capital" (preserving its irreversible character while negating its exclusion of the free development of humanity from "history", which is then limited to a history of commodity production), which is itself a sort of extension of the "Christian era". In relation to that, it'd be interesting to see something on Benjamin or more specifically his theses on the concept of history, if you wanna keep doing these labour day specials. Keep up the good work!
You could probably do a Part 2 of this on the philosophy of Philipp Mainlander, as he synthesized Hegel and Schopenhauer in his masterwork "The Philosophy of Redemption" that has actually just this year been translated into English for the first time. The fact that Mainlander wanted to "reconcile Religion with Science and put Atheism on a scientific foundation."

So... does this mean Marx didn't actually enter a pact with the devil to destroy western civilization? 🤔 But seriously, it's pretty wild that this channel can do a really smart video on Marx, even as the Rev Left Radio podcast (who are really smart Marxist-Leninists) does innumerable episodes on topics relating to mysticism & the esoteric. Edit to add: I would welcome more videos on topics where the esoteric intersects with the kinds of things that concern Marx and Marxists. As this video shows, the overlap is much greater than people tend to assume.
Great insights as always, I recently picked up Magee's book and was delighted to hear it mentioned here, thank you! A video dedicated to Hegel would be amazing.
Sounds like a good idea for a zine! Or a TH-cam channel! 👍 Pray proceed... (I've always had a bit of an interest in Gnosticism: I "introduced" the Ophites to a friend a little while back (more like shoved them in his face to prove a point: for as a Lokean, I was right annoyed by his trite assumption, to the effect that: "I was only 'allowed' to see Loki as not a villain, through the lens of post-modernism". 🙄🙄 Like the "rebellious", "alternative" viewpoint is anything NEW 🙄, I retorted, and came up with the Ophites as an example, from my reading of Colin Wilson. 🙂) But overall, I've never really understood Gnosticism: though I noted that popular novelists such as Kate Mosse (and to a lesser extent, Dan Brown) made a thing of them in pop culture some years back. So I might appreciate some accessible content thereon.. 🙂

Waited a month to watch this, because I didn’t have the mental energy in term time. I'm very glad I caught up - this was a pleasure. I wonder if you've read/watched Ian Wright's short work on Capital as a Real God? Your point on "demonic possesssion" echoed something he said to similar effect in that. Well worth a look if you haven’t!
Man conncecting the Debordian spectacle in was great. But the question remains... if hyper fetishism represents the physical manifestation of a false conscious under capitalism... then any continued psychological operations by state apparatuses are truly evil.
I'd say the state run stuff is pretty tame compared to marketing, especially things like big pharma. Capitalism creates the conditions of isolation and psychological damage and then forces you to pay them to medicate you and a subservience. That's profoundly evil as far as I can see it.
@@TheEsotericaChannel agreed 100%. thinking of it terms of a gothic horror is interesting. have you had a chance to read Flatline Constructs by Mark Fisher? it’s not an easy read by any means bc it’s a compilation of some of his drafts he never completely put together before he passed away... he develops the idea of “gothic materialism” mostly through science fiction / cybernetic cultural examples and it’s well worth the read.
@@TheEsotericaChannel I don't think statelessness is any sort of Panacea but I'd say Big Pharma is still a tool of the state. Its funded by privatised commons and exists primarily as a military resource first. Drug patents are just a militarily backed strategic reserve. I need anxiety medication in order to be a viable worker under capitalism but capitalism didn't create the underlying neurology that modern psychology classifies as an anxiety disorder in need of medication, politicians undermined the social safety net in order to force people like me into the work force. Dr. Sledge, I cannot express how deeply I appreciate you for making this video. As a leftist, I mean. I appreciate you explaining Marxism through a religious lense and especially what you said about Marxists treating it all as such. I have witnessed the dogmatism so frequently in discussions online and it's exhausting. Certain people really wield Marx and Lenin quotes like scripture and it's so nice seeing such a well educated fellow leftist put it out there like that.
I think it’s fascinating that you used the adjective “primitive” instead of “early” or “original.” It really highlights to what an extent the developers whom you earlier highlighted as totalitarians influenced the concept of Marxism. It brings to mind the early soviet legal theoretical battles over bourgeois law. I am not always a big fan of the esoteric, but I am a big fan of the way your mind works and your ability to *precisely* articulate it. Cheers from a new subscriber.
I remember you did an episode on the witch hunts, echoing bits of Silva Federici's "Caliban and the Witch" a while back. Talking more about that topic would work well for International Worker's Day as well.

I believe that Engels was interested and wrote on the 1536 Munster Rebellion. The Anabaptists as early Communists would have been of interest as a Communist test case. They are also connected to Boehme. I have unfortunately lost the reference to Engel's paper. Of course as an Evangelical movement Munster is also connected to the Evangelical right in America. While Marxism may be a Materialist philosophy the common understanding as far as advocates are concerned or vulgar Communism is well within the Religious domain.

This was such a cathartic video. I’ve been researching Hegel off and on for more than a decade, along with other German philosophy (meta-philosophy, theory, theology, and psychoanalysis if I’m honest). I’m in groups that are fundamentally at odds, but no less wonderful for exploring ideas in the spirit of curiosity. I came upon James Lindsay last year, and have watched almost his entire catalogue. He seems like a guy who found philosophy 15 minutes ago, and has created a loosely conservative mirror to left-wing intersectionality. He strictly doesn’t let himself out of his ideological silo and calls people who challenge his thesis “wizards,” much like intersectional types use _ism and _phobe. I detected some jabs here. I think that they were fair game. Gothic horror Marx is a fantastic spin.
@@BreathlessOblivion08 for real. I’ve been trying to get through to some of his fans that I know, and I’ve had some success. No, Plato isn’t a tyrant. No, a dialectic isn’t marrying truth to a lie. He tends to be wrong about so much, that the few things he’s almost right about get delegitimized as a consequence.
@@Pugilist379I would like to have a discussion, as a fan of James Lindsay. I don't know philosophy from a hole in the ground (there is a discussion topic 😅), but I tend to agree with his general take that something is amiss with the direction of "leftness" (again... I don't know politics from a hole in the ground either), and the reaction of some of the "right" to that "leftness". I find him at times abrasive, and overwrought but I still find value in his disection of some of the academic texts he brings to the table. Thoughts?
@@straypacket happy to discuss! So, with regard to his critique of the Frankfurt School, I don’t think that he’s entirely wrong. In fact, most philosophical blocs from the Marxist and post-Marxist tradition think that the Frankfurt school, and other theory drawn by the inertia of its derivatives, inc Crenshaw, are an op (ref CCF) to delegitimize communist projects due to their absurdity and tendency not to exercise any rational projects that go anywhere. Philosophy circles beyond that sphere, while contentious toward one another for varying reasons, would agree in that much. Where he gets it wrong, is where he depends on 1) not interacting in dialogue with those who challenge his thesis, and 2) building phylogenetic trees of completely unrelated philosophers in these grand conspiracies that WHOLLY DEPEND on you not actually reading each in the context in which they’re being proposed, or really, at all. I’m happy to discuss specifics to the best of my ability, depending on what you’d like to know specifically; be it on here or another forum. In my personal opinion, I’m not convinced that Lindsay has read nearly as much as he claims, in which his proposals are predicated. If he has, he’s taken some tremendous creative license in making everything fit together in the way that supports his ideas. Additionally, there are several thesis from different groups as to the origins of “woke.” I’ve heard several that are more complete than Lindsay’s.
I love your videos! Have you ever considered putting the audio up on places like spotify as a podcast? would love to be able to listen whilst i’m out :)
This is simply gold. As a Marxist, I got so shocked when I read Magee's book and found out how little we actually know about the roots of our systems of thought. I'm so glad to have found your work. it is amazing that historical materialism allows us to make a critique of the method itself! Thank you very much for this marvelous content
You lost me for a while near the beginning dropping all the names of the philosophers I know almost nothing about, but I was totally on board by the time you started in on the Gothic stuff. Very stimulating. Solidarity for ever.
My compliments Sir: I have always shared your opinion but do not have the scholarship to set it out as a thesis. You do. I respect your work...and truly lust for your library :) Well done.
Perhaps when you say that if….. You may want to rethink…….. Maybe it’s just that some are able to hear an interesting intelligent man with whom one shares several differences of opinion, and enjoy and respect the presentation. There are many things we would differ on but also many on which we would find common ground, and that’s terribly O.K. As a child I was taken to Australia’s version of speakers corner, were marxists, unionists, Nazis, Fabian’s and many others all spoke passionately and argued at times, but all walked away in one piece. Good times, but by todays standard a crime full of trigger warnings. Thank you for you work my friend.
Thank you for spending some time on the "Opium of the Masses" quote. As a marxist I perpetually annoyed by how this quote is stripped from its context.
Comparisons of Marxism and what is more conventionally thought of as religion is kind of a niche topic, but one that is guaranteed to grab my interest. You've definitely gone further (and much more careful) than any right-wing commentators that simply make broad-stroke comparisons between Marxism and Christianity just to say that the entire left is a religion, but also covered much different territory than any of Alasdair MacIntyre's thoughts in _Marxism and Christianity_ (since, of course, you're focused more on the arcane and esoteric, and not necessarily just religion). Very good stuff.
When right wing commentators call things they don't like a religion they mean one of things: 1. That is irrational because only atheism is rational. 2. That since Christianity is the only true religion it must be false. Sometimes they steal arguments from 1) to imply 2) or vice versa and that's when you can tell that they're not even worth listening to to broaden your perspective. Sadly most people who accept Gnosticism = Marxism aren't able to notice the blatent misuse of this form of argument.
Agree that the right-wing has dropped the ball on doing a real analysis of Marxism in spiritual/religious terms. Kinda makes sense in that such an analysis would put into sharp contrast the difference between political and religious commitments, and would show how the right has been blurring the lines between the two as much as the left. This is why a purely academic treatment ends up being so illuminating, and also why it's so hard to do in practice. Many praises to Dr. Sledge here. Also : "The re-enchantment of the West" is an interesting book that looks at how spiritual striving is making a comeback in the midst of today's secular society.
This is going to be awesome, I'm excited about this channel I've only embraced you tube last year, I've switched my brain back on as I'm 50 and found out I have a young daughter, it's time to give the world a chance again. This channel will be a favourite I can already see.✌️👍💯
An interesting little intersection of socialism and mysticism here in Ireland is that the Starry Plough flag, used by James Connolly's Irish Citizen Army and probably the most iconic symbol of socialist republicanism ever since, was designed by a guy called George William Russell who was hugely into theosophy and the occult. I've never been able to confirm it, but I've heard it claimed that the flag has some kind of esoteric significance.
I can definitely see reflections of this in Mark Fisher and hauntology, I won’t pretend to understand everything, I’m a microbiologist so a lot of this is out of my depth, but this was fascinating 🙏🏻

Threw a little bit of Benjamin Franklin in there, the quote was something like "I do apologize for missing the meeting of Congress the other morning, for I took a cheerful dose of opiates and slept in"
Another wonderful episode, and I hope the Demiurgic Algorithm enjoys this tasty comment and drops a penny in your cup.

Not really too related at all - but I've found it interesting to learn that Eliphas Levi was kind of on the Socialism side of things. Perhaps simply due to his heart going out to the oppressed and indigent.
Sadly yet most occultist nowadays are more inclined to the right. At least where I’m from
@@matheusSerp I would say there are often positive aspects underlying why anyone chooses a particular way of being (for instance, Levi having compassion on those left behind by his society...that's a nice way of viewing his Socialist tendencies). The key is to focus on one's righteousness regarding each individual issue at hand, rather than adhering to a broad category about all issues, in my personal opinion. And life is filled with practical choices where the Ideal isn't exactly to be had, especially with divisive topics like politics.
Some right and left wingers had a keen interest in the occult
You have far-right French political figures declaring themselves socialists in the 19th century & Napoleon III called himself a socialist as emperor too
Esotericism in Anarchism would be so cool!

Well if Capital is a Gothic Horror novel I should probably have another go at reading it.
Which country are you referring to?
@@DJWESG1 The US, of course.
Justin you rule, I'm beyond grateful you started this channel. Thanks for existing.
Regarding the occult in Capital, I've always been fond of this weird note in volume 1, chapter 1:
"In the German edition, there is the following footnote here: “One may recall that China and the tables began to dance when the rest of the world appeared to be standing still - pour encourager les autres.” The defeat of the 1848-49 revolutions was followed by a period of dismal political reaction in Europe.
It’s amazing that there are enough intelligent people with long enough attention spans for this channel to reach platinum. It makes me have just a little hope for society.
So what you're saying is that Marx was describing the world of Vampire: the Masquerade, gothic punk and everything. Got it.
Capitalism: The Masquerade
@@TheEsotericaChannel Imagine that... Capitalism being a nightmarish distopia in which you're doomed to spend your (un)life tolerating people you despise in order to preserve transactional semi-mandatory socio-economic and blood relations. Oh, wait.
Omg if this wasn't what I was thinking the whole time lol. Especially when he started mentioning vampires. But it's so true when you think about it.
Now that I think about it more, I think this perspective on Marx would fit even more so into the mythos of Werewolf the Apocalypse with the references to false consciousness and capitalism as a type of demonic super entity.
Just a thought--Karl as foreign correspondent for NY Tribune was an ardent Lincoln supporter. Liberation of humans from their degraded status.
Of course, the first international signed by Marx himself sent a letter congratulating Lincoln on being reelected.

So... does this mean Marx didn't actually enter a pact with the devil to destroy western civilization? 🤔
But seriously, it's pretty wild that this channel can do a really smart video on Marx, even as the Rev Left Radio podcast (who are really smart Marxist-Leninists) does innumerable episodes on topics relating to mysticism & the esoteric.
What a May Day treat!
This video is so good to watch/listen that it feels shorter than it is! Looking forward to Eliphas Levi content.
It's crazy how far Dr. Sledge's comedic timing has come on this channel lol.
My friend and I were going to start a zine and the parallels between gnosticism and Marxism was my first topic! You win this time, Dr. Sledge!
But overall, I've never really understood Gnosticism: though I noted that popular novelists such as Kate Mosse (and to a lesser extent, Dan Brown) made a thing of them in pop culture some years back.
So I might appreciate some accessible content thereon.. 🙂
@@oneoflokis If anything, it would probably be a mixture of History (friend is a history major), critical theory and esotericism/religion. Maybe some oddball film analysis too.

This "Loki is an evil villain" shtick, comes I think either from books he's read by conservative Heathens (eg Stephen Flowers/Thorsson).. can't be off Rick Riordan, he's a bit too old for those! 😄 Or at least to BELIEVE those, I've read them.. Or you know, a conventional Christian upbringing can really make you prejudiced/blinkered in some ways.. 😏 This guy is a fairly militant atheist now, but is also quite heavily into angelology and demonology. (Oh, and Chaos magic.) But is still quite conventional-thinking in some ways I believe.. (Thing IS, I don't tell him what to believe about angels, because they're not my specialist subject! Loki, on the other hand... Is mine, and not his! 🙂) Well I think some therapy via Zoom has calmed him down a bit, is all I can say.. 🤷♀️)
This is one of your best episodes! More esoteric/socialism talks PLEASE! Coincidently, I just read Occult Features of Anarchism by Erica Lagalisse, where she explores (and I quote) the "relationship between revolutionism, pantheistic occult philosophy, and the clandestine fraternity." I found the book really interesting and would be curious to know your thoughts on it. It might be a useful reference point for a future episode.
I must admit, when I (tried to) read The Capital, I didn't find it as thrilling as a gothic novel, but maybe I should try again, with a focus on ghouls, vampires, high castles and deep dungeons.

False consciousness and class consciousness are examples of where Marx didn't shake off Hegelian idealism. It's still Geist.
@@TheEsotericaChannel I don't think statelessness is any sort of Panacea but I'd say Big Pharma is still a tool of the state. Its funded by privatised commons and exists primarily as a military resource first. Drug patents are just a militarily backed strategic reserve.
Capitalism is an abstraction used to describe and make sense of the economy so I don't think it creates anything.

This is even better than your normal videos (which are already excellent).
it is so refreshing to hear esoteric stuff without all the reactionary bullshit
So true!

I rolled my eyes when I first saw you mention James Lindsey, but then your description of him was spot on.
Thank you for you work my friend.
Thank you for spending some time on the "Opium of the Masses" quote. As a marxist I perpetually annoyed by how this quote is stripped from its context.
Dr. Sledge, I hold you personally responsible for my having "baby Marx" stuck in my head to the tune of Baby Shark.
I used to listen a lot to people like James Lindsay and it is good to get another perspective.
When right wing commentators call things they don't like a religion they mean one of things:
